My Golden Demon Entry Melted

Comments

Rob Kesterton

Ah man! I feel your pain. Gutted for you.

Lukas Wiggering

Ah, damn. That sucks, big time. Fingers crossed, you'll get back on track

Tom Brand

Hope you sort it Andy

richard mears

Good luck with the re sculpt. I would have thought there was too much solvent in the paint to have that affect, especially as it only affected the styrene plastic, odd though it would affect other plastic from the different kits.

Lewis MacKenzie

That must be absolutely gut wrenching, man. I'm sure it will go together quicker - and better - the second time around, though.

Morville123

Best of luck on the repairs! Hope you get it finished in time

josh thomas

Ah damn that's a right pain. Something similar happened to me with my mpo entry, though I was using colour forge primer. I think in my case it was because I caught some parts too closely as I was aiming at others. Good luck with the recovery, hope you can dig deep and get back on track. Don't worry about videos! Its all good, the update is much appreciated.

Pinch Painting

I had this happen a few times with my colour forge black primer. Never been able to pin it down to a specific reason but now i also spray a tiny bit first on something to give it a test before i go for a prime. Hope it all bounces back love the work

David

Damn, that is hard! We’re all rooting for you, hope everything goes well the second time around

Thomas John

Take all the time you need! I can only speak for myself but I'm sure there are many here who would agree with me: I don't support the Patreon for the videos (though I love them) I support the Patreon because I want to support Cult of Paint. Whatever that looks like.

Andrew Steel (CMDante)

Ah mate! Absolutely gutted for you and can totally understand the frustration. Have had this happen before on the (at the time) limited army set SoB Canoness and I thought it might be down to some sort of left over mould release interacting badly with the solvent in the primer. Basically never used rattle can primer since. Have found the new VMS “no peel primer” to be excellent through an airbrush though. It’s acrylic but is like a rattle can primer once on and can be sanded etc without peeling (like every other airbrush primer I’ve tried). Might be worth a look?

JT Butler

Really sorry to hear you've run into such a big snag! Please take all time time you need, we can be patient. Hope all comes together well, Andy!

JSC_MINIS

That sucks bro, u got this

Christian Schmidt

Really sucks. Is it possible there is some sort of grease, fume, alcohol, etc? Could be a bad quality badge of Chaos Black... Mr. Hobby primer is available in a can, btw.

wesley hynam

I recently had this exact thing happen to me using chaos black spray on a land raider crusader, the can was perfect on every previous model then I noticed this exact texture after doing the vehicle, I then stripped and was left with the exact finish you're dealing with. An absolute pain for sure take your time and try not to worry 🙌

Salusa

I've heard rumours that the quality of GW plastic has been hit and miss recently, but I'd thought this would only have been an issue with the non-grey kits you find in starter sets. I've not come across any problems myself with any kits so far. Just came to mind when you mentioned only certain parts of your entry had been affected.

Haltes

Mr Hobby stuff for the win, although in this case it seems that GW plastic was at fault and that any can (therefore, solvent based) primer would affect it :(

Haltes

Oo, fellow VMS enjoyer! Second that primer recommendation Their acrylic varnishes are top notch as well

dw.minis

I've had this happen to me before. I always assumed it was because of the propellant and or solvent used in the spray paint not evaporating quickly enough. Which would make sense because it's only really happened if it's been too cold or I have sprayed too close

Elplebian

Yeah VMS are one of those companies that I don't think I'd be disappointed at all if I just hit 'add all to cart' on their site.

Paul Arnold

Maybe a quality control issue, potentially some residual processing agents on the plastic from the moulding process that shouldn't be there in the final product have reacted with the paint. An armchair take from someone with zero knowledge of the process. Could be worth asking GW. Best of luck with the project - can't wait to see it!

Ainslie Innes

Aww mate, that is soul destroying. Was this for Essen 25? Arguably worse because its a freak occurence.

Rob Cass

So sorry to hear about that Andy - what a huge disappointment. Major kudos to you for bouncing back so quickly and not just ditching it in frustration. As for the frequency of videos, absolutely don’t worry about it at all. While regular videos are always nice, I’m pretty sure we’re all here because you guys make fantastic art and the quality and honesty of your teaching is the best out there by miles, which is far more important than quantity or the frequency of our dopamine hits 🤓😂. Stay strong with it, and looking forward to celebrating your upcoming Golden Demon win with this (no doubt outstanding diorama). Cheers!

Leon

Thank you for sharing Andy, that's got to be incredibly tough! Don't stress it for content. We are super happy here with the Heresy pieces and Cult of Paint discussions.

Orlando Callaghan Reus

Try Mr Hobby black primer spray. I've been warming it up before shaking and spraying, and it's the smoothest finish i've ever seen.
