Picking the final option during any kind of system-related selection was pretty standard, seeing as the system sorted lists by how “good” something was. The highest-rarity skill would be at the bottom and even came last in the status menu, and the same was true with classes, races, and professions, even if they didn’t technically have rarities.

Being fully aware of this, Jake turned his sights on the fifth and final class offered, keeping in mind it was “better” than Arcane Hunter of the Boundless Horizon.

Arcane Huntsmaster of Primeval Origins – On the long Path to the apex, you have found yourself surrounded by kin of your own creation. Powerful allies who willingly follow you and recognize you for who and what you are. Embrace it, and lead them to hunt. This class revolves around strengthening and harnessing the power of the bond you have with your creations born from Primeval Origins, granting both you and them a variety of bonuses while fighting alongside one another. Despite embracing your role as a Huntsmaster, and no matter how powerful your hunting companions become, you remain dedicated to being the most powerful hunter in your group, using a bow and your arcane prowess as your primary tools to lead your pack into combat. Even when the Huntsmaster finds himself alone, he can pull on the powers and Records of his creations, making him a more than dangerous foe even when not with his hunting party. As their Huntsmaster, accept your Primeval creations into the fold, and create the greatest hunting party the multiverse has ever seen. Reach the apex together, all of you fully aware that only the Primal Hunter is worthy of taking the lead. Stat bonuses per level: +175 Perception, +150 Agility, +125 Willpower, +100 Strength, +100 Endurance, +50 Intelligence, +50 Wisdom, +30 Vitality, +100 Free Points (880 total)

Jake had to take a minute and really go through this class description in detail, as he’d initially been very skeptical just from the name alone. He had been offered the Huntsmaster skill alongside Lone Hunter, so he knew what the term tended to entail, and true enough, this class was all about leading a hunting party. Not just any hunting party, though.

It was a class specializing in Jake hunting alongside the creatures he’d helped create or evolve. Sylphie, Sandy, Vesperia, Jasper, and maybe that Demon Prince were all incredibly powerful creatures in their own right, and Jake did see the appeal of hunting alongside them, but he also liked taking on challenges alone.

Something this class even recognized, as he could seemingly pull on their power and Records when fighting alone, which reminded him a bit of the Monster Hunter class offered before. Though with this one, rather than taking on Records of those he killed, this class would allow him to gain Records from those around him.

Even then, the description made it clear that the class was meant to focus on Jake hunting with his hunting party. The stats given also revealed this, seeing as this one gave so much Willpower, a stat commonly related to leadership-style skills.

When it came to the stats in general, they were fine, and the total was 880, the same as Arcane Hunter of Boundless Horizons. For Arcane Huntsmaster of Primeval Origins to be a top-tier class really wasn’t surprising, as anything related to Primeval Origins tended to be pretty damn powerful.

Jake had initially written this one off simply from the Huntsmaster part of the name alone, but seeing as it didn’t cut off his possibilities of hunting alone, it wasn’t a non-starter anymore. Perhaps it even opened the door for Jake to further specialize the skill to make him more powerful when alone at the cost of the regular Huntsmaster qualities, effectively strengthening him for every creation he made. Plus, the class description even name-dropped his Bloodline, which Jake always liked.

However, despite seeing possibilities and many positives, Jake also had some severe reservations.

Usually, classes like Huntsmaster, which came with innate limitations due to how many stats it gave, would mean that Jake turned weaker when not with his hunting party, something this one avoided. That likely meant the limitations would come in some other fashion. Maybe it would limit him to not getting experience when fighting alone, or at least a penalty of some kind, likely alongside other things.

An obvious one would be the limitation he was used to, where Jake only got experience from foes above his own level… something he suddenly began to question would even be the case. That limitation had been born from the “avaricious” concept, which had now been baked into the entire “horizon” theme, something this class lacked. Going further down that train of thought, wasn’t there a good chance that the skill which made Jake stronger when fighting alongside his hunting party would come in the form of a changed Big Game Hunter?

Actually, the more he looked at it, the more he wondered whether this class even focused on fighting higher-level foes at all? Sure, it was a given that Jake would do that, especially if he were hunting alongside someone like Sylphie or Vesperia, who were both pinnacle-level combatants, but that didn’t mean this class was focused on doing so.

The more Jake looked at this so-called “better” class, the more he began to frown. After a little while, he sighed and shook his head, making his decision. He had given it valid consideration, but ultimately, Jake preferred to go down the horizon-themed Path, no matter how powerful he recognized everything related to Primeval Origins to be.

While Jake did enjoy hunting with others, it ultimately came down to him not wanting to limit himself unnecessarily. Also, while Sylphie and all the others were powerful, Jake didn’t like the notion of tying his own progress and Path to theirs. Sure, he believed they all had a valid shot at godhood, but in the end, the only one Jake could ever truly be confident in to reach the top was himself.

Besides, it wasn’t like Arcane Hunter of Boundless Horizons was a bad choice in the slightest. That it gave as many stats as a class with Primeval Origins in its name was actually confirmation in Jake’s mind that the entire horizon-themed Path he’d started going down was far from simple.

One day, he would definitely integrate Primeval Origins concepts, and he wouldn’t be surprised if he were directly offered a class with Primeval or perhaps even Primal Hunter as part of the name. Alas, that day wouldn’t be today, as Jake chose to venture into B-grade as an Arcane Hunter of the Boundless Horizon.

Making his selection, Jake didn’t feel any regret, as in the end, he had picked the class offering the most Perception, so it had to be the right one.

’DING!’ Class: [Arcane Hunter of the Boundless Horizon] has reached level 350 - Stat points allocated, +125 Free Points

Innate knowledge rushed into Jake’s body alongside the stats from the level. Compared to when he picked his profession, this was a far more muted experience, as he didn’t get a sudden windfall of experience, but had just gotten the singular expected level from making his choice.

Jake took a moment as he saw that with his new class, he’d upgraded one skill and gained a new one. Same as when he reached C-grade. In all honesty, Jake was initially a bit disappointed when he saw that only one skill had upgraded, as he’d hoped for something like Avaricious Arcane Hunter’s Arrows to also upgrade. Sadly, only his Big Game Hunter had received that honor, going from ancient to legendary rarity.

[Horizon-Chasing Big Game Arcane Hunter (Ancient)] – A true hunter seeks not the easy prey but a true challenge. Your hunt has taken you further than ever before as your methods improve, and you have embraced the Arcane. As you forever chase the horizon, you have become more accustomed to facing higher-level enemies. Increases the user’s resistance to auras and gives a small increase to Strength, Agility, Intelligence, and Willpower, and a substantial increase to Perception while facing enemies above your class or race level. The bonus is based on the disparity between the level of your prey and you. Limit of 1.30x your level or 75 levels, whichever is highest. May your hunt take you toward the horizon.

-->

[Big Game Arcane Hunter of the Boundless Horizon (Legendary)] – An apex hunter seeks not the easy prey but a challenge others view as seemingly impossible. You have begun to truly embrace the power that comes from seeking the Boundless Horizon, your sight always on the next challenge ahead. Avarice remains; your desire is stronger than ever, as you overcome anything that stands in your way, always rising to the occasion, no matter how powerful the foe. Increases the user’s resistance to auras and gives a noticeable increase to Strength, Agility, Intelligence, Toughness, and Willpower, as well as a substantial increase to Perception while facing enemies above your class or race level. The bonus is based on the disparity between the level of your prey and you. Limit of 1.30x your level or 125 levels, whichever is highest. May your hunt across the Boundless Horizon be an eventful journey.

Seeing Big Game Hunter upgraded was only to be expected, and the skill effectively felt like the counterpart to Malefic Viper’s Poison. This upgrade had a lot more to it than Malefic Viper’s Poison just getting stronger, with even the flavor text getting a lot of changes. The primary function of the skill remained the same, though but was just better than before.

Big Game Hunter was an awesome passive skill and was a core reason he could even fight enemies above his own level so well. It provided a significant boost in stats to close the gap, and now it had gotten even better.

Besides just giving him more in the same stats as before, the list had now expanded to also include Toughness, something that was definitely a pleasant surprise. Jake wasn’t exactly known for being durable, and he could only really put up any proper defenses with a mixture of arcane magic, equipment, Pride, and Scales of the Malefic Viper. If he didn’t actively do anything, even a regular B-grade before his evolution could have done some serious harm, despite how much stronger Jake was.

Jake didn’t believe that Big Game Hunter, now giving him more Toughness, would suddenly give him Runemaiden-level durability, but it should synergize well with Scales and help him more easily shrug off those small, unavoidable explosions he couldn’t always avoid. Dodging any actually dangerous attack was still the name of the game, but no one would complain about getting free Toughness.

Regarding the boost limit, it has also improved, and despite it staying at 1.30x his level, it was fine because the flat level had increased significantly. With levels getting higher, 1.30x was still a lot, and doing some quick math, the bonus from that multiplier would exceed the cap of 125 levels right about when Jake reached level 420. So, right about in the middle of B-grade, seeing as B-grade spanned from level 350 to 500.

One thing Jake did find odd was that the system didn’t specify anywhere that a grade disparity also had a massive effect on Big Game Hunter, even if the difference was technically only one level. Jake had no reliable way to determine how much a grade disparity counted for, but it was definitely equivalent to at least a couple of dozen levels when he compared the difference between peak C-grades and B-grades he’d fought.

Anyhow, Jake was happy with the upgrade and knew he wouldn’t even be thinking about it unless prompted, as it had just become a passive part of his life. Thus, he saw no need to devote brainpower to it and moved on.

Besides, he had something far more exciting waiting for him. Alongside his very nice upgrade to Big Game Hunter, Jake had also received a new skill. Before, Jake had complained a little about only getting one skill upgrade and one new skill, but upon laying his eyes on what he’d gained… yeah, all complaints went out the window.

[Sight of the Boundless Horizon (Mythical)] – To seek your goal, which lies within or perhaps even beyond the Boundless Horizon, you must first be able to locate it. This is your attempt to do so. Relying on the concepts glimpsed from the horizon and an insatiable desire to uncover all of existence, you have learned to strain your soul beyond its limits, sacrificing stability for increased Perception. Allows the Arcane Hunter of the Boundless Horizon to massively increase the effectiveness of Perception temporarily and perceive things beyond current limitations. May have additional effects when used alongside certain Perception-based skills. While using Sight of the Boundless Horizon, the hunter’s physical and mental defensive stats will be severely hampered. This skill can be used in conjunction with any other stat-boosting skills or abilities. Excessive use of Sight of the Boundless Horizon may result in soul damage. Open your eyes, expand your senses, and perceive the boundless Horizon.

So, everyone knew that Perception was the best stat in the multiverse. No cause for discussion there. Following that flawless logic, didn’t that mean that a skill that could make Perception better was one of the best skills one could possibly have?

Jake sure thought so from his initial reaction.

All doubt that Huntsman could have been a better option had entirely evaporated by now, and he felt almost giddy as he scoured all the instinctive knowledge he’d gained about the skill and carefully read the description.

Having a skill that effectively allowed Jake to double-dip in boosting skills with his Perception was insanely good, and not even something he had imagined was a possibility. The skill also remained quite mysterious, talking about Jake being able to “perceive things beyond current limitations,” whatever the hell that meant. He looked forward to finding out, but for now, it was a complete mystery.

Unsurprisingly, the skill didn’t come entirely without downsides. From the instinctive knowledge he did get, Jake had some idea of how the skill worked. What it did was effectively “pull” on some parts of his soul, weakening his soul and even physical body to compensate for boosting his Perception. Doing something like that as freeform magic would be a great way to fuck up his own soul worse than using Primeval Origin Energy on Palate of the Malefic Viper, so he was definitely happy the system was in charge of something like that.

Even so, it strained his body and soul, limiting how long and how often he could keep the skill active. As the description of Sight of the Boundless Horizon said, overusing it could lead to soul damage, so in that vein, it really wasn’t that much different from Primal Gaze.

One very important note was that this skill increased the effectiveness of Perception and didn’t actually increase his Perception. When Jake saw that, he instantly thought that it could synergize well with a lot of skills, seeing as they also had the passive effect of increasing the effectiveness of Perception while using them. Something that would definitely seem to be the case, and from the description, Jake had likely even underestimated this part. At least one section of the skill indicated that:

“May have additional effects when used alongside certain Perception-based skills.”

Jake once more wasn’t exactly sure what this meant, but one thing was sure: he had a lot of testing to get done. Something like Event Horizon should definitely work with it, right? Primal Gaze was also a strong candidate.

Smiling, Jake decided that rather than sit around and contemplate, wouldn’t it be an idea to go out and stretch his legs a little? He had just reached B-grade and would take a little while to realize what he was now capable of, and, fortunately for him, he’d already planned a little space trip, as Arnold was due for a visit. Miranda would definitely prefer for Jake to test himself in the emptiness of space rather than unleash everything right in the middle of Haven. As for after his moon visit, it was Order of the Malefic Viper time. Could Jake also just go to the Order now if he wanted to test things out? Sure, but Jake kind of wanted to visit the moon and see what the hell Arnold had been up to.

Getting up from the bed, Jake cracked his neck as he walked out to his porch. He gave the eels a final wave goodbye before he turned his gaze towards the moon far above. Lifting his foot, Jake activated One Step and instantly felt the difference. Even without using his new super Perception boosting skill, his sensitivity to concepts had reached an entirely new level, and he easily warped through space, traveling more than ten times what he normally could with a single step.

His smile grew even wider as his wings appeared and he ascended, his flight speed easily more than twice as fast as before, and by his initial estimates… if he was to fight Yrelstromoz here and now, the encounter wouldn’t even last more than a minute, and that was only because she had a way not to get instantly killed by his opening attack.

Class description thoughts...awesome class. Jake won't take it. Would love it if he did though. However, he wants his creations to be free and not just follow him around.

Connor

Thanks for the chapter

Mike

That last comment is nuts. I know he evolved and all but Yrelstromoz fighting taking a minute or less is nuts. I am excited to see what b grade fights look like for Jake. Real question is what will his first challenging fight of B grade be against. I'm thinking maybe an b grade dungeon boss soon. Or maybe a B grade space monster.

John Richmond

Tftc. Strained his soul not stained?

Jesper Hansen

man, this shit have to be some of the worst cliffhanger shit I've read in a long ass time.. It doesn't feel good, but I can respect that it works.. and all I can really say, the people who'll read this as a binge will surely enjoy it :)

hocusfire

"Percieve things beyond current limitations" I'm telling yall zogarth is cooking something, jake even said he can add this with event horizon

Jaydan Man

This chapter is barely a cliff. Yesterday sure. Today is starting a new arc, not in the middle of something ?

Ben Cox

Tyftc, finally Jake has done it he's finally specialized so much that he now has a dedicated perception boosting skill. Oras will be so jealous.

Jesper Hansen

"man, this shit have to be some of the worst cliffhanger shit I've read in a long ass time.." I'm obviously talking about the whole experience, especially since I mention binge reading afterwards.. But nah, this isn't over until his talk with Villy :)

RunnerRunner

Glad he went with the horizon skill. I wonder how his brother is doing? And Arnold probably has all the cool stuff now... unless sandy ate it all. Anyone wanna math on how fast he can get to the moon now?

Shadowessence

Primal hunter the comics just revealed sylphy!!! 😍 (originally wasn't a fan for the small differences from the book, but enjoying it now

djthomp

Trash class option, at least for Jake and his Path. The second to last that was more or less the straight upgrade sounded right yesterday anyway. All that perception, after all. Moon time, presumably it will go better than Jake's last Moon visit.

Jip

*uses primal gaze with sight of the boundless horizon* *looks at someones true soul and breaks the system*

Fdrugc

Tftc love the new skill. Also i wonder how the system judges, how good a class is as the 4th one is better suited to his path then the 5th one

BumAssBumAss

Sort of expected. I remember so many people loving the hunt master skill/concept when it was introduced, but Jake is complete ass at people management. Even without the limit of not being able to hunt alone, it's still a bad path for Jake no matter what.

Rahsheem Reid

The last option is interesting bc he could go full bad guy and use His creations to power his records by eating them after fully powering them up. Tftc

Alcazur

No downgrades?

Joken

Upgrade of his weapon of course

Gregory Feddema

Sight of BH with with alchemy? Or at that divine gate in his soul space to gain concepts he really shouldn't be able to? That's a sick skill

NiceTryMate

They came when his race upgraded

Phoenixdrop

Okay so I’m now very excited to see how that new skill synergies with all his other perception based skills

DaMule

Thanks Z, I really enjoyed how you wrote this chapter.

Skryser

Thanks for the chapter glad you are back 😁

Bruce Sheplan

Maybe they are tied so the order is random? or the last one is technically stromger for a normal person but for jake 4th is actually better

MaeWyse

I’m curious when the prima guardian event will end, and what will the world wonder be? I’m hoping it will be something related to the first sage like a legacy left for man and since earth and the Milky Way galaxy seems to have a hard line to the root of man I’m hoping for a dungeon library or something like that, something similar to the myriad paths event where people can gain knowledge or skills from the dungeon. Anyways thanks for the chapter, you really know how to keep us on edge, I find myself cursing after every chapter frothing at the mouth for more!!

Rick Delallata

It's always really interesting to see the various options. I hate it when books just tell us what they picked and nothing else

Alexandre8901

Thanks for the chapter! Can't wait for Villy - Jake bro beer talk!

Ben

Imagine if that’s what finally evolves it to an -of the Primal Hunter skill.

Loststar7

Thanks for the chapter. This was a fun one.

Episode 19

peak as always, dont know why i even bothered to say the last one would be OP, Perception is the best and nothing is better tyftc

Crow Says Caw

“The skill also remained quite mysterious, talking about Jake being able to “perceive things beyond current limitations,” whatever the hell that meant.” Jake is gonna encounter the bad guys that vanish mysteriously, use this skill and be able to perceive what is hidden, then he’ll tell Villy and open up a whole new avenue of magic / dimensional understanding or some shit as they discover that the bad guys have been traversing the multiverse in some unknown subspace. A current theory. Could be / probably wrong, but that’s the fun part of theorising! TFTC!

Dan

He should find another dragon. For science.

Vostir

Tftc !

charlesgers s

Do ppl think that in B grade Arnold can upgrade eternal hunger or is it still to powerful ?

Fyrtue

You know...a really basic combo with his new Sight skill would be the other First Sage legacy skill we know of, Identify. It will be interesting if the boundless horizon tries to develop Identify in that direction or if he can use the teachings from the sage to maybe break out another sacred skill upgrade.

Shadowessence

My friend does, and sent me a picture, since I love the series

djthomp

Yes it is? I don't understand the question.

Jaydan Man

I will disagree that what you're talking about is obvious, but ok. Personally I consider the chat with Villy a whole other thing and better to do once he understands his abilities.

Jan Fúr

When I read this "selection" parts I always remember running jokes I Noobtown. When companions of the main character was screaming on him that pointless ruminations on skills and upgrades he knows he will NOT choose are torturing them. We all knew which choices Jake will make. Only really surprising fact in last several chapters is that Viper did not show surprise that Jake apparently choosed leadership spirit...

Athena

tftc :) "small, unavoidable explosions he couldn’t always avoid. Dodging" -> "small, unavoidable explosions he couldn’t always evade. Dodging" "Even so, it stained his body and soul," -> "Even so, it strained his body and soul,"

hocusfire

Pretty sure eternal hunger grows in strength

Fyrtue

He kind of did show surprise though. Here's a quote..."Are you telling me you got a special leadership-related Spirit of Man variant?” the god asked skeptically.... I think he's just waiting until they talk through everything to hash it out.

djthomp

I've been suspicious for a long time that Prima being nearly the same word as Primal isn't an accident, and that this World Wonder was created by the system for Jake's integration to eventually be used best by him. Jake messes with Origins, the Wonder messes with Paths, both together might be the full package.

Fyrtue

I think he'll stick to letting Arnold upgrade his other katar and try to upgrade EH himself eventually.

Phillip Masusock

It’s probably more powerful in an absolute sense, but that’s not the same as fitting him better. Sort of like combat: he’s been told he’d probably be a better melee combatant than he is at archery, but he prefers the bow and that’s all that matters.

Jan Fúr

Jasper way? I am curious to see, if this applies to his sphere. Like technicolour spherical perception "See" can be applied loosely. Combination with gaze is tricky as "hunter" gaze invokes direct combat between souls and "horizon" gaze weakens his soul. But Jake may push for combination of them with his bloodline. It may even be similar case as his earlier chosen dancer sence evolution. And there is great potential of application in alchemy

Marcus Evenett

I wonder what happens to Jack's sphere of perception when he use the sight of BH

Josie

Oh good, Jake can now speedrun that puzzle box

Wselby64

I feel like the new skill has potential to become a transcendent one if jake ever goes that direction. It feels very fitting with the draw backs It has and along with the seeing things currently beyond limitations.

Abriel Blauer

Even so, it stained his body and soul --> Even so, it strained his body and soul

microwavey

Oh that makes sense. Here I was thinking that Jake’s worship of perception left an indelible mark on his soul like a good Catholic

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

Corey bess

I agree sylphie. Uncle was smart not to try to rely on how awesome you are in his class selection. What if uncle using your records made it so you shared things from him too? Then you might have to carry around a smelly pot too. Dodged a bullet there!

Patryk

Why so? I believed we can expect the puzzle box levels to get incrementally, exponentially even, more difficult.

Patryk

I wondered how much testing of his new abilities Jake will do around Arnold, Villy warned that it may be equal to leaking data to Oras.

Bobo Jenkins

I feel like It’s to closely related to his bloodline to become a transcendence, since I believe it’s been stated they can’t overlap or that you can’t earn it with the help of a bloodline. Now you might still be right since Jake’s bloodline is special in that Jake can turn it off essentially but I’m not he would do that. Another possibility is his bloodline attempts to force the system to make the skill a transcendence the same way Vily speculated it tried to do with moment of the primal hunter

DeAndrea H

Hmmm… to the Order with all the dragons who can detect his dragon slayer status but still have to bow politely and greet the Chosen? I’m here for it. Glad he finally got through his evolution. To the moon! 🌖

Wselby64

You might be right but i don't feel like the skill is that closely related to his bloodline especially because it comes from his class and the system gave it to him but I guess u could argue that his class as a whole is related to his bloodline which would essentially rule out a transcendence unless his bloodline does some bs like you said

ABTelford

I was expecting Jake to immediately chat with Villy. but I guess that'll happen when he goes to the Order? whatever. Thanks for the chapter!

MarineDebris

Will "Perceive things beyond current limitations" mean that he can use his sphere to glimpse layers of reality? Like, could he see the Void with it? Or the Shadow Realm? Maybe even figure out where the hidden gods are hiding!

BumAssBumAss

B-grade nevermore is now available as well as b-grade prima guardian event. I expect if Jake isn't pulled to the event, he would be soloing nevermore as there isn't a competition anymore to worry about.

Clint

EH is soul bound and self-upgrading…. Bad idea to hand it to the mad scientist for tinkering, when you can just keep feeding it more powerful monsters.

BumAssBumAss

Unlikely, true souls are something even gods can't easily touch. The skill is only mythical. I would guess when used with primal gaze, it allows Jake to directly invade/attack someone's soul space without being trapped in it.

Nicodos 209

We're really getting teased a lot about his origin energy usage in classes, but ig what it can do is too strong to be used properly in B rank (as in Valdemar fight properly), maybe in A rank we'll start seeing some more offensive uses...one can hope

Grimm Poe

Wasn't he suppose to have Villy incorporate his gift from Yip into his evolution?

Austin Barton

Oras is a homie though so that’s fine

Dalton Service

Im think the curse that EH was was equivalent to an A grade. And the weapon itself also grows alongside Jake since he connected it to himself so thoroughly. So, no I don't think Arnold would need to mess with it.

Silver Dawn

Honestly kinda surprised Jake didn’t get a class revolving around his bow or involving the pantheon of life or Artemis

Ron Whitlatch

Not interested in replies 😎😎

Namorat

Not entirely sure, because it's not really an error I guess, but could it be "strained" instead? "Even so, it stained his body and soul".

shawn B

May have been too stronk? I thought so tho as well

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter!

Alexander C Hyde

The primary function of the skill remained the same, though (it)but was just better than before.

zran

i wonder if that new skill will be also usefull for alchemy, i have a gut feeling it might be usefull there as well as watever it does on combat

zran

eh... he was on the order for a period of time after he killed that one dragon, besides by this point the dragonflights(especially the amber one) knows what aproaching him lightly wont be a good idea regardless of him killing a dragon or not

Fyrtue

I think that was just for a general records kind of thing and he'll do it when palate isn't being used.

zran

eh, i doubt it, likely the puzzle bix will last him up to s grade, the box was made for mortals in general, but it was never stated it was for a specific grade, so is not weird is meant to those who are capable to reach s grade while also serving as a pseudo teaching tool for diverse stuff

Patryk

Isn't it simple? Zog wrote his steps are 10x longer, and before it would have taken 3-7 days, I dont quite remember

zran

i doubt he can do anything to eternal hunger since that is a curse(casper is better pick for it), and one bound to his own soul too thoroughly at that too, if anyone can upgrade it, is just jake(he knows better than any other mortals his own soul) or casper(curse specialist)

Grimm Poe

I believed the gift would be Yip's Sin of Envy or a version of it anyway.

DeAndrea H

I think last we checked Aishalstramoz and the Regalflight were licking their chops at the thought of showing up the Chosen

Ray Light

Perhaps a later Evo?

Alex Testa

What was the gift again?

Kyle D

I wonder if the new ability will help Jake access a weaker version of the Valdemar fight power-up (e.g., further accessing concepts/upgrading the arcane affinity)

Grimm Poe

We don't kniw. We just kniw Villy took a portion of records from Yip to give to Jake, but he had to wait for his Evo.

MaeWyse

Yea I’ve been rolling that around as well, just the letter “L” missing from Prima definitely makes sense!

Blue

Can’t wait for that fight

Wait have I missed the Villy chat 🤦‍♂️

JW Saxby

🙌🏼 🤩 Hells Yeah!! 🤩 🙌🏼 👍🏼😁👍🏼 Tyftc 🍻

Dirty Dan

Arnold is 100÷ making a death star.

Noah Mclelland

I would be more surprised if it couldn't be used in alchemy, though not so surprised if Jake forgets to test it.

Devlin

I’m thinking with that new skill he has with Villy where he can pull on his experience to make things, maybe perceive better what he is doing as well?

Adam

Tyftc

Stefan_Ov3rdose

huntsmaster was kinda cool not gonna lie

Jabirttok

They're waiting to chat till he's back at the order

Josie

Hmm. Sight won't boost everything as crazy as I initially thought since it sacrifices stability for Perception. Since stability is extremely important for alchemy and his rituals, this could cause too much destruction to his projects. Jake also uses Invocation when he wants to boost his projects and Invocation doesn't allow for other boosts, which Sight definitely is But if he wants to get real specific with a skill upgrade at the gate of enlightenment? Yeah, he could download some concepts at hyper speed maybe 🤔 Using it during Path of the Heretic-Chosen could be wild, if he's even able to use skills when he goes to.. wherever it is that Path takes him 🛫

Ty Cooper

Tftc. Very interested in hearing everything Villy has to say about Jake's evolution

Quyan640

It’ll be cool if the new skill open the door to some niche and fun ocular abilities. I imagine Jake can already see a lot more even in term of something like light spectrum compared to a normal human, but even if it’s not combat viable, his eyes being able to shoot heat vision or create minor illusions for pranks would be funny. For investigation, scrying or divination would likely be helpful.

Corey S

Yep, that last skill doesn’t fit Jake in the slightest. It was probably just a test from the system as each of these choices he makes, solidifies his Path

Corey S

I wonder if that new perception skill will help him understand concepts at the Gate?

tigerfishie

TYFTC I’m so excited to see this stuff in action omg

Daryl

Man that Huntsmaster class was just too cool. I get being a loner but primeval origin energy is just the coolest part of Jake's kit.

Cory Smith

I’m thinking that the new perception skill is what is going to be necessary for identifying who is after him. Time to perceive who the new big bad is!

definitelynotbrjenness

I agree. knew he wouldn't pick it, but thought it could be lots of fun.

Kt-x

Thanks for the chapter

Josie

Yeah, i forgot too!! But I went back to look bc I was getting hyped about the synergy they could have.. only to read Invocation can't be used with other boosts bc Invocation strains the soul too 😑 that's why Jake doesn't use Invocation in combat, he has to let go of all other boosts

KenTX325

1)Curious about bow evolving. 2) Jake needs some new equipment. Needs to go to the loot tower for an upgrade. Armor and black point blade are also due. 3) needs to use the gate to learn concepts. 4) curious about others evolution. Was sure he would use Jake juice on Lyra and sword saint during B grade evolution.

Jan Fúr

Most disappointing thing in whole b evolution miniarc was absence of profession: Heretic chosen stallion of Malefic Viper...

Trumangolorian

When they reach godhood their class and profession form to 1 path that becomes their godhood right? Also TYFTC

Xander

TFTC:) Suggested edits: "him *more than a dangerous* foe even when" the usual phrasing would be "a more than dangerous" "him more powerful *than* alone at the cost" from context i think this should be "when" or maybe it should be "than when alone..."? Either way its a little confused. "something he suddenly began to question *if* would even be the case" ditch the "if" to clean up the wording. "had now been *boiled* into the entire" usual cooking term is "baked" when refering to things being included in some broader subject. "*One day*, he would definitely integrate Primeval Origins concepts, and he wouldn’t be surprised if he *one day* got directly offered a class" repetitive phrasing. I suggest changing the first instance to "In time" " it *stained* his body and soul" should be "strained"

Morazain

Just two words Primal Hunter. No god for the Primal Hunter already is a god, and he hunts gods and worse game.

Biggy smalls

I’m hoping he shows some love to Eternal Hunger as well. Get that lovely weapon to Sacred.

zran

2)well, he is going to visit arnold, so he will get upgrades on armor and melee weapon 3) he will when he find it fitting, and that aint this point in time, he first will focus on learn his new capabilities, then he will go talk with the viper about his evolution changes + let duskleaf experiment a bit with his soulflame cauldron 4) they likely wont gonna want him to do that, besides with sword saint being a human.... is not like it will change much, if at all, since is likely what watever variant jake is, the bloodline will make sure is not known, even if jake tries to do it on other humans, and for lyra... id say that could be dangerous(even jake acknowledges that!), she exists thanks to the grace of a primordial, who knows what could cause jake juice to lyra, for all we know she could cease to exists due to what that primordial did left some godly records in her

zran

eh, id say he will either pick up a better version of it on A grade, or concepts of it will bleed in into the next horizon seeker class(or concepts of his current one will bleed in into the next primeval origin class)

ZanSanCho

That was my thought process

Daryl

Great, see you guys in 5 years 🙃

Josie

It's felt like an old locomotive until now - and this isn't a complaint! All of December was waiting to finally get to B grade, evolving everything, deliberating over each option.. It's been a slow chug, chug, chug, chug 🚂 All that momentum and now, finally now, we're literally blasting off to the moon 💥🚀🌚 B grade's gonna be awesome!!

Daniel Wade

It's bothering my tism' that his choice was not the last on the list. It's always the last one! Lol 😂

Alexx Morgan

Book 13s audiobook comes out tomorrow!

Ni

Wait no mention of his bloodline evolving?

Sean

He doesn't need armor technically (though I hope for a new voidblade). Remember with the Primal Hunter Spirit of Man skill he will be buffed to his max equipment capacity if the equipment he wears is insufficient (with the slight increase in passive energy drain of course)

K

That happened in chapter 1272

itsdlow

I read it as stability of the soul is sacrificed— but with Jake’s soul who knows! Maybe it can be permanently on like Sphere

Nebulous

Nah, D-grade he picked the fourth option for his class, C-grade he picked the fourth option for his profession

Nebulous

It's not clear, but that has been speculated. It's not really implied one way or the other in the books yet, let alone having a definitive answer.

Nebulous

Lol nope, that's not how that works Morazain. Jake will probably hunt a God at S-rank before he ascends to Godhood himself. At that point he will probably be known to the public as The Primal Hunter.

Nebulous

True, Sean, but I hope he gets some neat new effects on armor and such since he doesn't really need stats as you pointed out.

Nebulous

Yep, that's a typo for sure. The context doesn't make sense the other way

Nebulous

Thankfully this platform doesn't allow for unilateral opinions without replies that can serve as a counterpoint for future readers. I disagree that it should have been one chapter. The way Zogarth structured it allowed us to see the new skills in the same chapter. People have been waiting hundreds of chapters for the B-grade evolutions. If they were too rushed, it would have been a big disappointment for many. Lastly, as a personal suggestion to you to avoid further annoyance in the future: look up the Streisand Effect.

Trumangolorian

I have wondered honestly if since at c grade he hunted b grades and so I bet mid b grades he will hunt a low a grade. I wonder if at peak a grade he will try for either a peak s grade or go beyond and hunt a demigod.

Nebulous

Trumangolorian, see this quote from Book 2, ch 6: "The ones who had reached the absolute peak of S-rank, the ones who were but a single step from godhood, were referred to as demigods."

definitelynotbrjenness

will jake rem to ask id Arnold has new gear for him before he asks. "got any skills above mythical yet?"

Drexnaw

Odd his bloodline didnt force upgrade the boundless vision. Its similar to his sphere and that bloodline be jealous figured it would of already taken over it and made it uniquly better. Might happen when he actually uses it though

Noah Mclelland

Plus doesnt oras already know/have an inkling to Jake's future

CorwinsChaos

It might as soon as he tries to use it

Trumangolorian

Thought demigod were the step between S and Godhood. So like after evolving, not the peak, but thanks for correcting my thought. Good to know.

DefinitelyNotMinaga

YES! The long awaited moment has arrived!!! Latest chapter of Primal Hunter manga is Sylphie's birth! I gotta say its just as cute as i imagined it. The manga is as close to source material as possible without all of the internal monologues and concept breakdowns. For us who know all of that already the manga is just perfect extra goodness. TYFTC ZOG. New class is just great, unless.....Jake and his creations enter a labyrinth as a party. *SHUDDER*

Simon Andriessen

It is not that similar to sphere imo, rather it could be synergistic with it. Sphere doesn't improve the quality of his senses, it's a new sense entirely. It would also be insane if a mythical skill would force upgrade. (but hey, he is the mc) Perhaps it would 'side-grade', upgrade to a new mythical skill.

Numbzy

Yeah, it really opens the door for more fun equipment. Getting away from stat sticks is a great thing imo.

Asterrahl

Huh, I was wrong, he didn't pick secret n.5! Makes sense. He's doing very well as he is, a straight upgrade is probably best. The new skill looks powerful and fun. Basically a perception turbo boost that can increase his multipliers with other skills as well. Damage based on perception, turbo damage. He's getting better at sniping, doing more damage with singular attacks, which is necessary when facing stronger foes. I'm a bit sad that he can't play around on Earth anymore, apparently. It happens that the protagonist outgrows his planet, but I hope Earth will have more to offer. Strong dungeons and just good hunting opportunities, no existential threats or big drama. I'd like Earth to remain useful and viable.

Quinn

Less than 2 hrs fo book 13 on audible so hyped!!’

ABTelford

I hate to criticize but I’ve never liked the long reviews at upgrade, looking at/listing long details of things we’ll never see again and that don’t matter to the plot. That said, this one was more interesting than the last. Still, more live action /interaction needed, less review/exposition. I can’t wait for the conversation with Villy.

NoGoodStories

I agree. I feel like this is either the second or third time in the entire series that he has picked something other than the last option. That being said, I saw one comment earlier that said they loved the 5 skills/classes selection, so given that we are nearly 1300 chapters in, I don’t think zogarth will change it. I wouldn’t mind if the descriptions were shorter or if Jake didn’t spend several paragraphs internally explaining why he wouldn’t pick an obviously shitty/against his path skill. Hmm do I want to take the common rarity, worship villy, lead a group of people, give up bow and arrow, mind control, 0 perception, light affinity, skill that stabs my eye every 10 minutes. OR Mythical skill that provides a 2000% bonus to perception and makes my arrows pass through time and space… hmmm. Choices, choices

Flopmind

No skill downgrades?

Bjarne Hansen

14 and 15 listed, but no date though ...

Drexnaw

Idk man the sphere is a sphere of perception that allows him to perceive an area around him that expands with his class and perception and boundlesss vision is a skill that scales with his perception that allows him to perceive around him. His bloodline is jealous and petty and in the past it definitly forced an an upgrade just cause it was close enough kind of thing so we shall see

ABTelford

Yes he’s not likely to change how he presents skill selection…but as you said I do wish he’d shorten it. Because, yea, it’s obvious.

Flopmind

Ah you're right. For some reason I thought it was just profession skills.

Seen Death

Overall i like the detail personally. On one hand it gives a ton of info that could be used to speculate a whole lot of stuff. On the other hand, sometimes i read the skill name and dont want to actually read the whole fluff, so id just skip a little until i got to jakes opinion and get a nice summary of a skill While there is a very low chance jake takes the skill now, they could be claimed in the future (although all of his next options have been better than the ones hes passed up in the past), or at the very least give more insight to what types of possibilities there can be in the future/ what other people could have taken For example this evolution made me wonder what types of classes are out there: jakes usually have more complex names but im sure someone on a much more common path would just have 1-2 word named classes or whatever So yeah, if you really cant stand the descriptions id reccomend just skipping those sections and reading the Jake Summary that follows them

Chrisbirdie

I love it, I just read defiance of the falls d grade evolution and it felt like it had literally 0 impact. He made his core and that was fun but the classes felt almost unnecessary, no choice no deciding no factors. This choice expands lore and jakes potential paths, and every evolution always focuses a lot on his bloodline and are the main points where we learn more about the background of his race

Dakota gleason

Plus it gives material for fanfics such as AUs where jake takes different paths

Josh Kubo

Notes on books and audio: First, I went back and restarted the series with audio this time. That was a trip. The reader Travis Baldree. Yikes. Jake and other characters sound good, but Villy sounds like he has a lisp, Sylphy doesn’t get her Ree’s, and I can barely understand The Fallen King. Second: Who didn’t understand that Chris and the Primordial Fanatic were Not the same person? (Hint : reading comprehension is kinda necessary for reading a series) Third: Zogarth ; I do let the audio read the ‘previously on The Primal Hunter’ - when it’s available. It wasn’t included in some of the books. I like to use ’read and listen’ on kindle. A couple of books, the audio track didn’t have that. Finally, welcome back from vacation. I’m just up to book 9 with the read and listen, and I’m sure it’ll be great to hear the whole Nevermore arc with the Audio. Glad there’s a few more chapters to go here. I purposely waited until there were a few. Now, on to the next chapter. Thanks for the chapters.

mdavern11

Eh feeling like we've just kinda been going around in circles with the progression honestly.

Josh Kubo

* While using Sight of the Boundless Horizon, the hunter’s physical and mental defensive stats will be severely hampered.* What??

Greg Alverson

I actually like seeing all the choices for classes and skills, I do agree that sometimes the reason for not picking the early ones could go quicker for obvious things like the lone hunter just say sounds like penalty if fighting with others and weak choice stat wise in one sentence would have been fine there.

Greg Alverson

The first thing that came to mine for my with his new mystical skill on perception was the gate of enlightenment. Perceiving things beyond current limitations to me is seeing how things work to understand their concepts

Yaldabaoth

Thats a good point 🤔 Can't wait to find out 😄

Parker Bond

I remember back in nevermore his party joked that one step wasn't a thousand miles, but don't remember what it actually was distance wise. I wonder how close it is to actually being 1,000 miles now...

Parker Bond

I like the horizon class much better than hunt master. Kind of surprised his bloodline didn't reject them all and just make him his own custom class though

System: Why do I even bother, I should have known he would choose the one with the highest perception bonus. be funny if the system trolls him when A class comes around. Like [Eye of the System] Who loves the perception stat, you do, yes you do, and here it is, finally, the class you've been looking for. +2000 PER per level, no other benefits.

Gh0st-Hunt3r

Why Not [ Primeval Arcane Hunter of the Boundless Horizon ] ?? Now that would have been an INSANE Class If I Had to give it a description it would say [ Primeval Arcane Hunter of the Boundless Horizon ] On the long Path to the apex, The Primal Hunter seeks not the easy But the Impossible Prey. Harnessing The bow As your Primary Weapon You Set your Aim Not at the horizon But what Lies Beyond Ever Seeking out Prey Who deem you Far below them taking Absolute pleasure showing them the error of there Beliefs. Unlike Most ranged Combatants When Pushed into Melee, Foe's will find themselves Severely Outmatched. This class revolves around strengthening and harnessing the power of Your Primeval Origin Energy, And the arcane to obliterate your prey. Or something like this lol

Fylbrom

I want him to do that to Duskleaf. We as readers know he is the Shattered Dusk Emperor, and so does Meira, but seeing Jake's reaction, and then Duskleafs reaction to Jake seeing past the disguise could be funny.
