Sometimes, the best way to progress was to take a step back and reassess what one had to work with. Jake had already realized that directly using his Lesser Primeval Energy while crafting was far beyond his current abilities, making him switch to instead altering the ingredients.

However, this wasn’t just as straightforward as infusing the energy into the raw ingredients. First of all, Jake’s purpose for practicing using Lesser Primeval Energy was to learn how to control the outcome, so he wanted to do more than just successfully infuse the energy without whatever he used it on blowing up. Making it not blow up was definitely an important step, but only the first one.

Second, when Jake actually tried to infuse a bundle of grass, it still exploded. His problem remained very much the same as when he tried to use the energy in a mixture, just on a far smaller scale. Herbs, outside of very rare cases, didn’t consist of singular energies, but possessed several that were in balance. The grass that Jake used for potions had a strong water affinity, life energy, and a plethora of other concepts and energies perfect for making potions.

When Jake then came and infused his energy, certain aspects were more affected than others, creating an imbalance, and boom, it went again. He could try to control the infusion far more carefully, but even after a few days of trying, he felt that it, too, was beyond his current abilities to do consistently.

So, Jake took another step back.

Rather than try to alter a herb, he instead attempted to infuse his Lesser Primeval Energy into the most basic ingredient in any potion:

Purified water.

It was the most basic of ingredients and something Jake could easily make himself from regular water simply by using Alchemist’s Purification on it. Using it, he removed anything he didn’t need and kept the pure, mostly affinity-less water for his potions.

Which was pretty much all Jake ever used the skill for, and reading its description, it wasn’t like it was useful for much more.

[Alchemist’s Purification (Inferior)] – Attempt to purify any alchemical ingredient. Purification can help remove unwanted properties from a component, making the finished mixture purer. Must have suitable ingredients. Must have suitable materials. Purification does not require any additional tools or equipment, but the skill’s effect can be amplified using certain catalysts. Adds a minor increase to the effectiveness of Alchemist’s Purification based on Wisdom.

As an inferior-rarity skill, even when Jake was in C-grade, it was naturally pretty shit. From the description, it may have seemed more useful than it was, but the word “attempt” did a lot of heavy lifting, as in truth, if Jake wanted to use Alchemist’s Purification on any high-rarity item, chances were he would ruin it. Even in cases where he could successfully use the skill, the effects were minor, and honestly, he found it more useful just to remove unwanted properties during crafting using his destructive arcane energy. This became extra true after he got his Supreme Arcane Soulflame, making the process even faster.

Still, it did its job purifying water, and if Jake ever wanted to go for a swim in a pool he suspected was dirty, a quick purification could also do the trick. For anything else, though, it was a dead skill.

That’s why Jake had planned on merging it with one of his Malefic Viper Legacy skills at some point. Have it go the same way as Cultivate Toxin, though not necessarily merged with Touch of the Malefic Viper, even if that skill seemed the most likely candidate.

Jake considered the limitations of Alchemist’s Purification and the role it played in his current abilities. Although it was largely underwhelming for rare or complex materials, its reliability with water was undeniable, offering a useful, if niche, utility in his arsenal. More than anything, the skill offered him absolute reliability when he used it on things it was actually good at. Failing to purify water wasn’t even an option, and if he used it on lesser materials, he also saw a one-hundred percent success rate.

Building on this, Jake pondered whether the true value of Alchemist’s Purification lay not in its versatility, but in its absolute consistency with specific tasks. While other skills promised grander effects, few could guarantee flawless results every single time for their intended use. That certainty, even if limited in scope, was something Jake could definitely use, seeing the unpredictability and volatility whenever he used his Lesser Primeval Energy.

Reflecting on this, Jake realised that having a skill that performed one function flawlessly was a rare asset to keep hold of. Sure, he could try to fuse it with Touch of the Malefic Viper, but what if he instead repurposed the skill to work with his Lesser Primeval Energy?

Deep in thought, Jake opened up his system menus and went way back as he looked for something specific. A source of inspiration for what Purification could potentially become.

He quickly found it, having to go way back to level 230 in his profession, where Jake had been offered an upgrade to Alchemist’s Purification. A skill he’d rejected at the time, but now he was definitely grateful it had even been an option.

[Arcane Alchemist’s Grand Purification (Epic)] – Embrace your arcane affinity as you stabilize what properties you desire and destroy the unwanted. Attempt to purify any alchemical ingredient, reducing it to its most basic state while ensuring its stability. Arcane purification can help destroy unwanted properties from an ingredient, making it purer. Must have suitable ingredients. Purification does not require any additional tools or equipment, but the skill’s effect can be amplified with the use of certain catalysts. Adds a small increase to the effectiveness and chance of success of attempted purifications based on Wisdom and Intelligence.

Compared to Jake’s current Alchemist’s Purification, this didn’t even seem that much better, and he strongly suspected that if he’d picked the skill, it would have undergone a downgrade to rare rarity during his B-grade evolution. He would be able to check if it did when he reached level 380 and got his first skill selection of B-grade... if he remembered.

Anyhow, as Jake noted, this arcane version of the skill was effectively just regular Purification with his affinity added to it. Both served to remove unwanted properties and impurities, making an ingredient purer; however, there was still one big difference. The arcane version didn’t only remove impurities, but resulted in something Jake found very interesting.

“...reducing it to its most basic state while ensuring its stability.”

While Jake wasn’t necessarily a fan of the phrase “reducing it,” as that implied a loss in the transformation process, the core of this functionality was what sparked Jake’s curiosity.

Primeval Origin Energy had the ability to stimulate objects, bringing them closer to their Origin, which really wasn’t that far off from reducing something to its most basic state of being. Of course, more often than not, the Origin was far more powerful than what something had originally been, making it conceptually far more potent than whatever an Alchemist’s Purification skill could ever pull off, but Jake still believed there were some similarities.

Lesser Primeval Energy, as an inferior type of energy, which, funnily enough, had its Origin in Primeval Origin Energy, should have some of the same properties, even if the word Origin was gone from the same. While Jake wouldn’t expect any skill that he made to suddenly be able to reduce something to its Origin or even close to it, having it take just one step in that direction would be huge.

Of course, any attempt Jake had made to use his Lesser Primeval Energy in any capacity so far had ended quite badly, which was why he also cared about the second part of what the arcane version of Purification introduced: stability. The wording of the skill suggested it ensured stability while reducing something to its most basic state, making it a transitional effect.

Needless to say, being able to stabilize something during the Lesser Primeval Energy infusion process was definitely something Jake would need, so if he could find a way to combine the two...

Having an idea of what he wanted to do and actually pulling it off were two very different things, though. He didn’t already have the Arcane Alchemist’s Grand Purification skill, which was probably for the best, as if he did, also introducing Lesser Primeval Energy into the process may have been harder, as Jake didn’t necessarily want to reduce something to its most basic state. Something very close to it, sure, but not exactly the same.

To get the process started, Jake began with water. Having already purified it, he next attempted to infuse some of his Lesser Primeval Energy into it. Rather than make a small marble this time around, Jake conjured a cup of stable arcane energy and poured purified water into it before proceeding to put a finger inside.

Infusing a tiny smidgen of his Lesser Primeval Energy, Jake mentally prepared himself to have the cup explode, but surprisingly, that didn’t happen this time around. Instead, as he poured in his Lesser Primeval Energy, Jake felt it simply seep into the liquid without doing much.

As he continued, Jake felt that some kind of threshold, which would make the energy act by itself, was about to be reached, which was when Jake fully focused his mind and stepped in. Rather than allow the Lesser Primeval Energy to go haywire and likely cause another explosion, he carefully controlled it and made it merge with the surrounding water.

Jake strained himself as he carefully allowed the Lesser Primeval Energy to fully fuse with the purified water, simply aiming to amplify whatever was already there. The process was slow, with Jake purposefully pouring in energy with incredible patience, and fortunately, his careful approach paid off. The purified water slowly started to be affected, and a powerful sensation began emanating from the cup.

Feeling this, Jake was both elated, but he also couldn’t help but frown a little. Purified water was nearly entirely free of anything, including even its own water affinity, making it perfect for diluting liquids and serving as a perfect filler. But some small fragments of water affinity still remained, something he had only fully realized after he’d gotten stronger.

Jake had honestly expected the water affinity that remained to be affected and be what rose to the surface to experience the most change, but instead, he found it pushed out and suppressed. Instead, the water started giving off a small glow, became absolutely translucent to the point where it looked almost invisible, if not due to minute amounts of light emanating.

As for the liquid’s affinity now? None. Or, perhaps it was more accurate to say that it simply held the mana affinity. Jake’s Lesser Primeval Energy had transformed the purified water into what was essentially potent liquid mana. The glow given off was an expression of it actively rejecting any other forms of energy or affinities from affecting it, but it also represented it slowly leaking out energy, the liquid slowly returning to being purified water once more.

“Can’t say that’s what I expected to happen,” Jake muttered, though when he thought more about it, didn’t this make sense? Even purified water had to possess some kind of energy, and for it to be pure mana was only to be expected. Through this experiment, he also confirmed something else.

Without careful control and direction, Lesser Primeval Energy was incredibly volatile, almost guaranteeing an explosion when used without extreme control. Seeing this was honestly odd, as it felt almost intentionally destructive, as if it wanted to react and self-destruct both itself and whatever it interacted with.

Except that wasn’t really the case. It was more that Lesser Primeval Energy was too potent in doing what it did. It wanted to bring about change way too quickly, always resulting in extreme instability, ultimately leading to all integrity breaking down and the energy scattering everywhere at once in an explosion.

In that vein, it was very similar to Primeval Origin Energy, except Primeval Origin Energy felt a lot more... alive. Full of intent. It was so overwhelmingly powerful that, rather than provoke a volatile reaction, it simply forced change to begin, which could also lead to devastating consequences. Jake messing up Palate being a prime example.

Lesser Primeval Energy was thousands, if not millions, of times weaker, but that also allowed Jake to at least exert some control. Even so, Jake’s confidence level wasn’t high in using it to do anything besides infusing it into water, which would just result in Jake creating liquid mana. Which was cool and all... but he could kind of just do that already by pouring pure mana into purified water in the first place. Producing pure mana wasn’t hard, but something all humans could do with a bit of effort and training, with Jake being particularly skilled at it. His Arcane Affinity did come about from pure mana, after all.

Looking at the water Jake had infused with energy earlier, it had already stopped glowing after only a minute, with the powerful sensation it gave off fading in real time. After another thirty seconds, it was more or less back to being regular purified water, but Jake kept carefully observing it until all traces of his Lesser Primeval Energy infusion were gone.

Nodding to himself, Jake repeated the experiment a few more times, aiming to get more familiar with successfully directing and merging the Lesser Primeval Energy with something else. To his relief, Jake successfully pulled it off over a dozen times in a row, and by scooping up some of the liquid mana and putting it inside a ball of stable arcane mana, he confirmed that the decay in potency came as a result of it simply passively leaking energy into the atmosphere. It could be viewed as the environment trying to equalize pressure, draining the energy from the liquid mana until its potency matched its surroundings.

Once he was satisfied with his consistency using purified water, Jake moved on to something one step harder. No, not a herb or any other usual alchemical ingredient, but something with an incredibly stable structure without any noticeable impurities:

Metal ingots.

During his experiments with purified water, Jake had placed an order for some purified ingots to work on, and the order was quickly delivered, with the items teleported directly into his laboratory.

Hey, if Villy wanted to actively spectate Jake’s alchemical experiments, he may as well make himself useful as payment for the viewing experience. It was definitely faster than using the token to place an order and then waiting for someone to deliver.

The metal ingots Jake had ordered were all gold bars, as even after the system, gold had the wonderful property of being very non-reactive, while also possessing great mana conductivity. From what Arnold had said, there was a definite correlation between metals good at conducting electricity before the system and metals capable of conducting mana now, though it wasn’t a hard science. Plus, while gold was good at conducting mana, that was only when one compared it to other bottom-tier metals. Arnold’s many composite materials or alloys were far superior, with even the metals used far surpassing gold.

Jake had chosen gold over those other metals for a good reason, though. He wanted it exactly because gold was a relatively low-tier material that also had the properties he was looking for.

Following his success with purified water, Jake took one of the gold ingots and began slowly infusing his Lesser Primeval Energy. Once more, he exercised supreme patience as more and more energy entered the ingot. Jake was ready when the threshold was reached, and the reaction began as he directly controlled the Lesser Primeval Energy with as much precision as he could muster.

From the center of the gold bar, a powerful sensation began to emanate, and in the very next moment, the entire ingot was flooded with energy. Jake gritted his teeth and tried to hold on, but he couldn’t control the Lesser Primeval Energy perfectly anymore. The bar began to deform and melt in places, with Jake doing all he could as the seconds ticked by.

It ended up taking more than half an hour before things finally calmed down fully, and Jake let out a huge sigh of relief as he looked down at what had once been a metal ingot. He had avoided an explosion, but things definitely hadn’t gone as planned. The ingot looked broken, with all the metal having lost its luster. It couldn’t even be called gold anymore, and it was utterly bereft of energy.

With disappointment, Jake ran his finger over the ingot, watching it fall apart in the process as what had once been gold turned to nothingness at a mere touch. Yet, as the broken ingot slowly disappeared in his hand, he felt something. With a finger, he carefully removed more of the broken gold until he saw it.

There, in the center of the ingot, something gave off a small golden reflection. It was not larger than a speck of dust, if even that. To a pre-system human, it would have been invisible to the naked eye and required a microscope to even see, but despite how incredibly small it was, Jake couldn’t help but grin as he looked at it.

After very carefully removing the rest of what had once been an ingot, he was left with only that small speck on his fingertip. The rest of the gold had turned into nothingness, but in its wake, it had given birth to something that not only Jake couldn’t help grinning at, but which he even felt the Malefic Viper carefully observe as he didn’t doubt that they both used Identify at roughly the same time.

[Unstable Lesser Primeval Gold Mote (Legendary)] – A small mote of Lesser Primeval Gold. This item is unstable and will lose material integrity imminently. Unknown uses.

Jake barely had time to see the message before the small mote let out a sound as it scattered into pure energy, dispersing instantly. Its existence had been short-lived, but Jake still couldn’t help but smile.

It was definitely one step forward, and one thing was for sure: Jake definitely wanted the assistance of a system skill when trying to “purify” objects using Lesser Primeval Energy. Trying to freeform, it wasn’t going to be consistent anytime soon, and even then, he doubted he could ever be truly consistent.

He also knew that while a part of him had hoped to just quickly bang out an upgrade to Alchemist’s Purification, that wasn’t going to happen, as Jake wanted to do this right. Alchemy took time, experimentation, and effort, something Jake wholeheartedly accepted, and he didn’t at all feel deterred as he picked up a second gold ingot to see if he could work on stabilizing the process.

It was going to be hard, but when hadn’t Jake liked a challenge?

Episode 19

Hmm purified water, wonder if that'll hydrate you if it's so purified to the point it loses its water affinity Anyways tyftc

Dell

Thanks for the chapter! I like this self improvement after the chaos of C grade

David

First off, great chapter! Second: required a telescope to even see➡️ required a microscope. Telescopes are for seeing far distance, microscopes for seeing tiny things

Bonktrauma

Good chapter, Cant wait to see what primeval things are concocted

definitelynotbrjenness

You know... a normal student at the order might check for courses on purification when wanting to improve a skill. That thought traps me in the debate of: Viewing others ideas would limit Jake's creativity and rewards from the upgrade. VS Yo, Jake. Smart people have been doing this for millenia. Might want to see what they came up with.

Phoenixdrop

Okay so purification is about to become absolutely busted once we reach the end of this skill upgrade research arc I’m expecting mythical at minimum if not the non divine version of a sacred rarity skill whatever that would be (I’m like half expecting that transcendent skills are just skills above mythical that don’t involve anything divine but still that’s just like a crack pot theory I have that probably isn’t close to being true as transcendent skills literally break the system they’re so op so you know whatever I just can’t wait to see how Jake’s new skill turns out)

Seiryus

Pure water is bad for humans irl as it tends to remove electrolytes from our body. I imagine that in PH's world it would work the same for G, F and maybe E-Grades, while everyone else doesn't need water to live.

Christophe H.

Thanks for the chapter. Good one, research about his own Lesser Jake Juice. Yeah!

djthomp

Turning the long ignored purification skill into a Primeval purification skill, amazing planning by Jake to save it for that possibility all this time /s

BumAssBumAss

Although unstable, Jake casually making legendary items with primeval energy is insane. One of the big hurdles of high level craftsmen is finding high quality ingredients. With his primeval energy, Jake is produce those high level ingredients without having to cash out his savings or even break out his wallet.

Loststar7

Agreed. It definitely looks like uncle Jake is going to be playing with his smelly pot for a while.

David

Yeeessss.... planning

Southern Celt

You don't look at something small like a mote with a telescope, you use a microscope.

Joel Lindqvist

It was a mote of the void. Like the world just decided to open there. Close. But not the same. And not something jake can replicate for a long ass time

ABTelford

Nice. Thx for the chpt

zran

did even opened his waller after entering the order? because i do not remember he using his credits after entering the order, like ever

Brian Griffith

A mote of progress. Nice pun that didn’t reveal itself as a pun until the end of the chapter.

Nathan Knight

It says microscope? Unless that was change in the last 20min

Asher Bryant

I think it will be a unique skill. Nobody else will have Jake Juice or his Arcane Affinity, which this skill will use more than anything else. Also Arnold was talking about having several unique skills and I think that was minor foreshadowing.

DeAndrea H

Hmm… so what I’m hearing is that several of Jake’s friends are lucky they never exploded. Got it. Fun chapter!

Kimesh

He paid a lot at the beginning for his ingredients and Arnolds stuff. At one point he seems to have started useing Villys money for this over the Token or like in the Pantheon of life

Noah Mclelland

Is that like Jake hoarding stuff in his storage until he needs it? He must know something for the future we dont.

Kimesh

I think it needs to be Balanced. Using the groundwork of others and looking for inspiration is great, but it should not limit his imagination. I think Jakes big advantage is his ego. He wants something and just decides to make it possible, no matter what others say is feasable

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

Josie

Jake being a Primeval Alchemist is not going as smoothly as I thought it would 😅 I guess I assumed the energy would react like his Soulflame and naturally obey him because it's uniquely his. But this stuff is.. rambunctious

Brody Stafford

It is that transcendent instinct of his. Without even being conscious of it, he knew to wait until now /s

Bruno Daxo

So we're going to focus this book a bit on alchemy... it had to happen eventually, I'm just curious to know when Jake will discover that Duskleaf is the father of vampires...

djthomp

Sylphie is pretty volatile, maybe they're all just bombs with a very long fuse...

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter!

UNKNOWN

What would happen of Jake infused his origin energy on food? Would it revert to its base ingredients, would it taste better, or would it spontaneously explode as you brought it to your mouth? I need answers.

Grimm Poe

Why would it be difficult when he already has an idea of what his arcane energy would do if he added it into the process?

definitelynotbrjenness

take a bar of space. purify it. mote of void. what's a matter big ax guy? can't hit me?

Phoenixdrop

Yeah you’re right it’s probably going to be a unique skill but still might be a mythical

Fulminis

Because I don't think he's intending to merge it with his arcane affinity, but merging it with the lesser primeval energy. An energy that he doesn't fully understand or know how to control yet, so it'll take hard work

Hornbach

Primeval bling when?

Grimm Poe

Doesn't matter what he intends to do. The primeval energy overrides most things. So, the destructive aspect he is trying to avoid will be overridden. He needs the stability aspect of his arcane energy to make what he is trying to do stable or even last to be used for anything else.

definitelynotbrjenness

will jake put crocodiles in his mote or fill it with oil that can be set on fire?

Siethrobo

This feels like we're about to get side character chapters. Which I am here for.

Siethrobo

If he uses his mote on oil will it turn back into algae?

Lemonsqueezy

I think of it like needing experience or to level up the skill. It is a new skill so it is effectively level 1. He is now using it in conjunction with level 350 skills. He knows what it should do, but in the eyes of the system he is a noob with the skill. So until he practices a lot with the skill it is just causing him to constantly fail.

Lemonsqueezy

So his Lesser Primeval Energy skill causing things to explode. Couldn't he use this as a sort of poison for his arrows? Just at a bit on the tip of an arrow and when it enters the body of a foe it causes and explosion inside the body as it mixes with the plethora of energies? Effectively making a magic missile, or explosive arrow. I think it would be effective if Zog went with it because in this universe everyone essentially becomes mostly magical rather than biological.

Lemonsqueezy

It is time for a montage and a few "bite of life" chapters as we wait for the Seat of the Exalted Prima event.

Lemonsqueezy

As I am reading it, unless the thing he is adding it to is a form of a singular pure energy it explodes almost instantly. This is due, to what I believe, is the fact that the origin energy can only enhance one of the energies and thus makes the entire thing unstable. I am guessing that as he upgrades the skill he will be able to enhance multiple energies at once, and eventually be able to do it to all the energies in an ingredient. Ultimately enabling him to use it in the same capacity he does when he uses it in his formations when he "upgrades" a creature.

Grimm Poe

That argument doesn't make sense for Jake at all. Plus, what it stated he needs is stability which is a key feature of his arcane affinity which gave him the idea for what he is currently doing to begin with.

Lemonsqueezy

Probably due to the difference between the Lesser Primeval Energy he can manifest in the physical word vs what he used in the formations. He has a lot more control of the later, and it is a lot more powerful. The other is very weak and he has almost no experience using it. It stated before that what he can physically create is a miniscule amount of what he has. The skill is also unique to Jake and has never been seen before, so there is no literature for him to read about it.

Lemonsqueezy

I mean you technically could. They both essentially do the same thing.

Lemonsqueezy

Jake has an extreme amount of funds due to his passive income from Earth. He is the owner/leader of not only Earth but the entire Milky Way Galaxy and I am sure I read that there are taxes in his realm. He probably also made a significant amount of money from all the potions he sold on Earth while leveling his alchemy to 350, especially after getting his soul flame. At this point Jake is probably in the 100s of billions if not trillions of credits. Unlike others, he has nothing to spend them on because of the Order. Zog probably stopped mentioning it because it had gotten to such extreme levels. I think at one point it was stated that Jake was probably one of the richest people in the 93rd Universe if not one of the richest mortals in the multiverse, definitely the richest in his current grade. I think Zog wrote that the Order takes care of all of Jake's monetary needs so that Zog didn't have to worry about or keep up with Jake having money to do things.

Lemonsqueezy

It definitely would help with Jake's very long stat sheet. Merging the two skills would also reduce the time spent upgrading his skills. Lastly, merging it would remove the possibility of it being downgraded later because the new skill is unique to Jake and falls under his protective and overpowered bloodline that can even bend the system to its desires.

Paul Martin

Where do you get that from ? I thought the past of Duskleaf was still a secret

Bruno Daxo

It kind of became obvious at one point, but it's still just a theory of mine (the elf being impressed and scared by his true title... the extremely unique and positive relationship between vampires and the order, plus I don't think the infinite hydra would have the strength to stop those who hate vampires from attacking them in the absence of the evil one; there would have to be a secret heavyweight protecting the order from literally the greatest villain in history).

Lemonsqueezy

I kind of agree with Asher on this. Skills that are universal have the ranking system. This is to show how powerful the skill is compared to others that also have it. Sacred skills are ones that are at the level of gods. This skill being something only Jake can do will have it sit comfortably and permanently at Unique because there is nothing to compare it to. When it comes to transcendent skills, no two are exactly the same, but they can often be close enough to be related. Transcendent skills can also be learned/taught but are usually not at the same level as the original. I think that is why they are often compared/counter to bloodline abilities, which cannot be taught but can be passed down to children at a weaker level. Unique skills, however, have to be given by the system. Then you factor in the fact that this skill is tied into several other unique abilities Jake has. This skill comes from Jake's bloodline, his arcane flame, and his Primeval Origin energy. I think the skill currently has the "lesser" tag because it is being compared to the overarching Primeval Origin ability. He will eventually power-level the fuck out of it and it will get the "greater" or even "legendary" tag, but will still hold that Unique rank.

Josie

Hmm.. maybe it's not so much a difficulty from his Arcane power per se as much it is that Jake needs more precision. The fact that he's struggled to make potions and can't make bane poison shows this. He's got power but this also needs extreme finesse If he spends a little while in a time chamber with his puzzle box, it may help?

Lemonsqueezy

I think Jake is trying to merge the two skills. There is no literature on the Lesser Primeval Origin. It is unique to Jake and only he will ever have it. This is due to the fact that it came from 3 other Unique abilities Jake has. His bloodline, his arcane magic, and his "Jake Juice". Only his children might eventually be able to do it if they follow the same path as he did.

Josie

Genuine question: why do people keep saying this? I don't see the link? Sanguine disappeared and Duskleaf has a mysterious past. Is there anything else to connect those dots?

Lemonsqueezy

The essentially do the same thing, but I agree. They both use mirrors, but just in a different way. A telescope would be a terrible microscope as the images would be quite blurry, and visa verse.

Lemonsqueezy

pure H2O is very reactive with everything. It has a neutral charge, but is bipolar like a magnet. So it just bonds to everything it touches. Drinking pure H2O would indeed cause it to bond to minerals and electrolytes in our system and cause them to be flushed out by the liver and kidneys. However, in this universe it probably wouldn't do much of anything because it has been stated that as you rank up your body becomes more magical and less biological. To the point where several organs disappear, and when you get to godhood you are a being of nearly pure magic with all of your biological parts just being manifestations of magic.

Lemonsqueezy

I think Sanguine was the origin, but Duskleaf might have had a significant part in that creation. He might have been the catalyst that enabled Sanguine to do it.

Bruno Daxo

Since you asked... I'm a big fan of crazy theories... so I researched this: 2) Duskleaf is a nickname for a species of blood-sucking bat (Hipposideros ater) that is frequently associated with representations of vampires. 2) I don't need to mention the strong relationship between alchemy and the very concept of vampires. 3) What would be the best way for an alchemist without talent (a phrase said by Villas) to live long enough to become a god? Create perfect conditional immortality with great ease, creating assistants in the same condition who neither tire nor disobey. 4) IT WOULD BE REALLY COOL IF HE FARMED VAMPIRE AURA UNTIL IT WAS NECESSARY.

Josie

Love how the description of the Primeval mote reads as "Unknown uses" Like even the System is asking wtf just happened lol

Jeryd Greer

Since the concepts involved matter it would vary depending on the food. The origin entry makes new origins as much as reverts to older ones. Sandy for example, is the first of their kind. So a grandmoms chicken soup might inherit all the warmth and healing properties of the body and soul if ramped with P.O.E. But a salad might become individual plants again, and a wholly new dish with high skill backing and concepts might create a new kind of dish all together that has specific properties. That’s probably a waste of P.o.e but I think that would be part of the considerations.

Jip

Bro will be eating a steak and all of a sudden, a cow gonna be j chillin on his plate eating his mushroom and moss salad

Rewdan

Thanks Zogarth great chapter

Jip

Uuuuum, the bloodless night. Sanguine had a transcendent that allowed vamps to not have to feed on blood. But now they do, sooo, yeah, he dead. Also, shattered dusk emperor or whatever it was. Bro definitely made some plagues and merked a few billion people

Powers

Well, it’s a localized explosion. It can’t be remote, as Jake himself has to keep pouring in the LPE to transform anything in the first place. Other than that, LPE has no destructive will, only a will to change. Zog mentions in this chapter that things are only exploding because of “forced unstable change”, thus, the arrow would just explode in Jake’s face. It doesn’t even do real damage.

Jip

Space and void are not the same thing. Space has space mana and isn’t truly a void in the multiverse like it (kind of) is in ours. The void is the void. The nothingness between universes. Think of it like this. Even in our real universe, space is filled with radiation, primarily microwaves (cosmic background radiation). Sure, space seems like a void cuz u cant see shit and matter is rare, but energy is everywhere. Now take that energy and equate it to space mana. The void is like a black hole (its a stretch because it has mass and gravity but just ignore that and think broadly). Everything gets annihilated at the event horizon (theoretically). Nothing can survive inside it, nor escape it… unless you’re an immortal god or being protected by one. Now this next bit isn’t wholly related but a tangent theory of mine: Conceptually, the void and a black hole are similar (baring some things). Jakes class revolves around the idea of horizons. His capstone skill directly is related to black holes. I think Jake was partially offered his capstone skill due to the making of the mote of void in the valdemar fight. I think this is where his bloodline has started to take root in his class. The system saw something that was conceptually similar and was like, “fuck it. They both have horizons. Jake been to the void a few times now. He has a void based weapon. Lets roll with it”

Fyrtue

Going to class is an interesting thought. I think a more likely approach is a private session or two from Duskleaf in exchange for letting him toy with Jake's soul flame for a bit.

Lemonsqueezy

Very true. It is always the obvious that you miss. The energy would cause the arrow to explode long before it did anything to a foe. I read it as LPE destabilizing anything it touches on its own.

Anomander_Rake

Definitely think he could draw inspiration but it’s a fine line.

AWKW1ZARD

The point of the last sentence, is that he needs to produce a successful purification using Lesser Primeval Energy, in order to upgrade his purification skill to a level that isn't garbage. To make that happen, he's likely going to have to attempt it an absurd number of times. Once he does that and upgrades the skill, the system can kick in and do the heavy lifting.

Grimm Poe

Does this somehow change my response to it? One of the key words is stabilize. He has a key aspe t of his character that is the energy to due so. System fuckery might also agree with what I am saying. 🤷🏽‍♂️

definitelynotbrjenness

lemon, your presence is requested in Geneva. they have a few conventions they wish to discuss with you.

Tamathon

If he’s going to start working with metals, do you think the Automata Legion or the Altmar Empire will show up soon?!

Asterrahl

Fun stuff! New ground even for Vilas! It also sounds cool. Who wouldn't want some Primeval Gold?

Xander

TFTC :) Suggested edits: "which wasn’t far off *,* reducing something to its" this comma breaks up a single thought. Ditch it.

Lemonsqueezy

Geneva suggestions. It is not a war crime the first time.

Josie

For some reason this chapter reminds me of something Artemis said back in the POL. She said that as a hunter she sees herself as a balance within nature and a part of the ecosystem, but that Jake's energy feels at war with nature itself - like he's an invasive species. Maybe this energy has something to do with it?

ThatGuy

I agree he COULD have had something to do with them but he’s definitely not a vampire nor is he sanguine. Jake would have noticed if he was a vampire and asked him about vampires instead of villy. If eversmile can’t hide from Jake neither can duskleaf.

Seen Death

Hmm "...will lose material integrity imminently..." Obviously this was a successful failure- proof of concept that jake is not trying something literally impossible even for him This material has no known uses, and might not really have any even if studied If he manages to make the integrety stronger could it have uses? Is this more of a physical manifistation of the (lesser) Concept of gold... there is a chance that adding stability inherently makes it an even lesser version of itsself: potentially all the way down to being regular gold Jake may not understand the concept of gold- but that should be meaningless because his lesser origin energy basically has all of the knowledge baked into its existence But jake is still somewhat adapting how the energy is mixing with whatever item hes trying to modify... I am interested in seeing where this is going haha Im having trouble even wording a better explaination of my thoughts

Seen Death

Sometimes even a second tine haha. Also winners of wars for some reason never are at fault either

Seen Death

I think theres a bit of a disconnect- potentially with me entering the convo a bit late aswell. Jake was looking into that skill- i believe- as inspiration for how he could make his own skill- but instead of it being based on his arcane affinity: it would be based upon the lesser origin energy. Hes basically experimenting now with his lesser origin energy to be a catalyst for the skill to upgrade into a more autonomous version

Josie

Wait.. when he masters this will he be able to craft a Full Recovery Potion? There's complex potions that give more than 1 resource, so maybe he could make one that maxes Health, Stamina, and Mana with a 1 hour cool down too afraid to even think about Primeval poisons

Deborah

I checked and he used this skill to clean his house once. Do you think he'll make a primal room of lesser origin energy?

Nate

It sounds like something the King could use to more deeply comprehend just how gold something can truly be.

DefinitelyNotMinaga

Vilas is probably deep in thought about the last part of the description. "Unknown uses". As the best alchemist in existence imagine seeing an ingredient never before seen vanish almost immediately after inspecting it.

tomcat202

Small thing here to add, sacred is a level below God level skills which like shroud of the primordial is divine rarity

Colton Horton

Actually, that makes me thing of system granted materials used for beasts to evolve. Like the mist bone that misty used, or the meteorite shard that Jake infused to make Sandy evolve. If Jake masters the lesser primeval energy could he actually create materials that can be used to influence and evolve beasts from regular materials? Although, I guess thats kinda what he already did with his regular Origin energy, huh? 🤔

definitelynotbrjenness

If you remove all the stuff that space is filled with...what do you get?

definitelynotbrjenness

Reduce it to its most basic state... everything explodes... big bang theory

definitelynotbrjenness

Duskleaf impatiently asks villy for the tenth time, "can I ask him now?"

definitelynotbrjenness

According to fat electrician, most of the convention rules were made because of things Canada did.

Kt-x

Thanks for the chapter

Asterrahl

I think the materials granted by the System like the Mist Bone are like infusions of concentrated records. The give an immediate push but hamper future growth. Primeval Origin Energy adds some records, through interaction with Jake, but it more stimulates the latent records a being already has from their Origin. They are dormant, in a way, but compatible and natural. For a Jake Pill to evolve a being, it would have to be a much lower level, so the quantity or records it already has plus those from the interaction would be enough to trigger a transformative evolution.

Lemonsqueezy

Most of them actually came from the Axis powers (Japan, Nazi, and Italy) during WWII. The very first convention was actually started from the Red Cross and the treatment of the wounded and prisoners, because of atrocities during WWII on both sides of the war, but mostly Canada for the Allies. Canada has also committed war crimes after the Geneva conventions as far as the early 2000s in Afghanistan against detainees, but I don't think any country has been able to keep their hands clean from doing so. I was in the military for 20 years, and I can tell you that not all servicemen act in the best way. Military members are a small collection of people from all over the country, and if you have psychopaths in the civilian world, you will have them in your military as well. Take it from someone that has been in a war and I can tell you tempers flair, anger and hate for your enemy breeds inside you, and you find yourself capable of doing some truly heinous things. Especially when you have captured the guy who was just trying to kill you. It took me awhile when I got back from Iraq to get rid of my hate and distaste for the Iraqi people, and sometimes even Muslims as a whole. I am not proud of it, but it is something in my life that I have thankfully (and proudly) removed from my personality.

Don't know if it matters, because the descriptions are basically the same, but he was also offered an even better purification at 320. Like I said I don't think the change matters but it's odd he refers to the older epic offer instead of the newer ancient one. Keen to see his new legendary/mythical version though!

Parker Bond

He could wrap in in an arcane energy marble, but I don't know if it will be even as good as just using unstable arcane mana for making things go boom
