<AUTHOR NOTE>

I did warn you that chapter posting times would be sporadic. No idea when the next chapter will be, but I'm posting now before I head to bed, since I have people coming tomorrow and no idea when else I'll be around to post. Movers are coming on Friday, and I have a lot to prepare before then, so don't be surprised if there are no chapters before next Monday, though, again, who knows when time might present itself.

<AUTHOR NOTE OVER>

Jake looked down at his hand. The healing process was ironically faster than usual due to the ingredient that had just blown up in his hand, almost making him chuckle. After only half a minute, all the surface wounds were healed, making him nod.

“Yeah, it was definitely stronger than last time,” he noted to himself before he proceeded to repeat the exact same thing, resulting in yet another explosion that contained high levels of life affinity energy. The sheer conceptual power within the energy was also far more potent than usual, showing that he was closer to his goal than before.

Several months had already passed since Jake’s first minor success with the Unstable Lesser Primeval Gold Mote. That minor victory had inspired Jake to continue down the same avenue of study, and during this time, he’d gone through a lot of different metals. At first, he focused on extremely pure yet “weak” metals like gold, which were known to be non-reactive, but soon, he’d moved on from that.

Gold was good to experiment with, but it was almost too pure for Jake to see any good results. He also realized that, due to its fragility, he couldn’t see himself making a stable Gold Mote any time soon. As he continued his studies, Jake also began to realize something else.

When he used his Lesser Primeval Energy, an explosion occurred, and one type of energy within the given ingredient was massively empowered, overwhelming everything else and causing fundamental instability. At first, his plan had been to strip everything else away from an ingredient besides that one important element he wanted to empower; however, he began to suspect that wasn’t possible.

At least not with his current skills.

Something like a Red Lavender – a core component in any health potion – did possess a lot of life affinity energy, yes, but it also had many other types of energies. Even when he extracted the lavender’s juices for potions, those juices weren’t entirely pure. Sure, these juices were almost entirely pure, but they still contained some other concepts and trace amounts of other energy types. Ones that Alchemist’s Purification didn’t even try to strip away.

This got him thinking... was it even realistic to use Lesser Primeval Energy merged with Alchemist’s Purification to create something one-hundred percent pure? That had been what Jake had tried to do, as that had seemed like the only way to create a stable item infused with Lesser Primeval Energy, but now he’d really begun to question that assumption.

In his pursuit of purity, he had missed the fact that in the real world, was anything ever actually pure? Even something like gold, which was known to be entirely nonreactive, still held trace amounts of other forms of energy. Ones simply required for existence. Energy born from countless concepts that were simply there as fundamental building blocks for physical objects. Gravity, time, space, light... everything that was affected by these energies, which were unavoidable, would contain smidgens of these energies within.

Jake’s attempt to fully eliminate everything when he used his Lesser Primeval Energy was entirely unrealistic and didn’t fit in with reality, so he looked to another discipline of alchemy for inspiration:

Transmutation.

The art of Transmutation was all about transforming something from one state into another. In this process of transformation, the key role of the alchemist was to preserve stability, guide the subject of transmutation towards a desired outcome, and keep as much of an item’s innate energy as possible throughout the process.

If one then wanted to elevate the quality of a transmuted object, one had to merge other energies into it, often by combining several items or using other such catalysts. Usually, simply infusing one’s own energy wouldn’t have a huge effect when it came to raising the quality of an item. That’s why, when Jake had transmuted weapons in the past by infusing them with his arcane affinity, it had always come at the cost of losing enchantments or similar from the item in question.

However, there was one exception to this rule: Primeval Origin Energy.

Jake had tried to transmute items in the past by infusing them with Primeval Origin Energy, resulting in a massive increase in both the quality and quantity of energy. This seemed impossible on the surface based on what Jake knew... except there was some precedent for it happening before.

And that was when the system got involved to upgrade something.

He recalled an item from all the way back in the Tutorial. Upgrade Tokens. These items had been used to – as the name suggested – upgrade equipment by consuming the item in question. As these upgrade tokens weren’t rare in the multiverse, with the system giving them out relatively frequently through different events and, in rare cases, even through natural dungeons, they had been thoroughly studied throughout time.

The general consensus was that these Upgrade Tokens didn’t actually contain the energy required to cause an object to upgrade. Instead, they were closer to “keys” that allowed an item to tap into some greater unknown source of Records and energy that would be the real source of the upgrade.

It was a gross oversimplification, but the fundamental thought behind the theory was that these tokens could temporarily create a bridge that formed a connection with a greater source. This all made a lot of sense to Jake, but it also reminded him a lot of what happened when he used his Primeval Origin Energy.

He had already theorized it before, but Jake’s Primeval Origin Energy was just the catalyst to spark a change. It could open the door to new Paths and sources of power... almost like a key. A key to the Records and power found within Primeval Origins.

Lesser Primeval Energy was just a lesser version of true Primeval Origin Energy, so wouldn’t it only make sense that it worked similarly? He had created a legendary item, even if its existence was brief, from only a mundane gold bar. Even if Jake had taken all the energy inside of a million such gold bars and merged them into a single one, he would never have met the threshold in Records or energy to become a legendary item, yet with a single one, he’d created that Gold Mote.

That meant energy had come from somewhere, and while Jake had infused a bit of Lesser Primeval Energy, it was far from enough to create a legendary item. Coupled with all his other thoughts about how Lesser Primeval Energy actually worked, Jake shifted his view of how to use the energy.

He moved away from trying to actually fully control every part of an item’s transformation despite that seemingly being the point of using Lesser Primeval Energy in the first place. He still wanted to decide the outcome of a process; rather than control it, he would plan it.

When Jake used his Lesser Primeval Energy in the beginning, he did so by infusing a little at a time, and then once change started to occur, he would desperately rely on his senses and Bloodline-empowered instincts to quickly react to whatever was going on. Needless to say, this didn’t tend to go very well, as the speed and sheer volatility of reactions were far too fast for him to cope with.

That made him question whether his approach of using Lesser Primeval Energy hadn’t been off from the start. In retrospect, there were some clues that this was indeed the case. The first of these could be found during his profession evolution.

The Harbinger of Primeval Origins profession had provided +210 Willpower per level. That was even more Willpower than his class gave Perception, despite classes being able to provide more stats in total, and his class being extremely Perception-focused. Speaking of Perception, Harbinger of Primeval Origins hadn’t given any there.

Jake didn’t believe it was a stretch to say that if he’d taken Harbinger of Primeval Origins, he would also have gained the Lesser Primeval Energy Manipulation skill, though perhaps a slightly different version than the one he ended up with.

Given that Willpower was such an important stat with Perception at most a supporting one, did it really make sense that the best way to use Lesser Primeval Energy was to rely primarily on reaction time and high Perception? Jake didn’t think so.

That’s why, rather than taking a reactive approach, he adopted a proactive one. Instead of pouring in a little bit of Lesser Primeval Energy until a change occurred, Jake would inject it all in one go, but not just send it in raw and without direction.

Using his Willpower, Jake sought to fill the Lesser Primeval Energy with intent and purpose before it was even injected. This intent couldn’t be complicated, but it could allow the energy to do more than just violently react, or at least slow down the process to a level where things didn’t blow up.

From initial experiments, this seemed to be a pretty good idea that helped prevent things from blowing up too fast. Granted, there were a lot of explosions to get to that point, but it was progress. Jake needed to better familiarize himself with how much Lesser Primeval Energy each corresponding ingredient required, and so far, his only way to do so was through sheer trial and error. Hopefully, if he upgraded his Alchemist’s Purification, the system would introduce better consistency, but for now, this was his best approach.

As for why he was back to working with herbs and making them blow up? Well, because they were inherently less stable than metals... and because he’d already found some level of success with metals, based on the very small flake he had stored on a table in a crystal bottle, the entire table inside a stable arcane barrier.

[Lesser Primeval Iron Flake (Legendary)] – A small flake of Lesser Primeval Iron. Relatively stable, though it still shows signs of instability. Unknown uses.

The flake was incredibly small, able to easily sit on top of his pinky finger, and thinner than a human hair, but the mere fact that it had been sitting inside that bottle for more than two weeks was already a massive win in Jake’s mind.

It hadn’t been easy to make either. Jake had started using iron ingots because iron was a metal that was relatively easily affected by external forces, unlike gold. It was also a lot more durable once refined a little, so Jake had spent some time both transmuting and using Alchemist’s Purification on the ingot until he got it to an acceptable level of purity while still keeping it stable.

From there, he’d infused it with a “package” of Lesser Primeval Energy full of his intent and Willpower. At the same time, Jake actively infused his arcane energy, as he still didn’t plan on leaving everything to chance. While he found it difficult to directly control his Lesser Primeval Energy, he did discover that through his arcane affinity, he could affect the energy and have some semblance of control.

He was still wholly reliant on the original intent he infused into the Lesser Primeval Energy, but his arcane energy was what allowed him to turn the entire process stable. He had to protect parts of the ingredients that would otherwise be destroyed by the Lesser Primeval Energy, resulting in explosions, and only when the time was right could he slowly allow what he’d protected to merge with the energy empowered by the Lesser Primeval Energy, making the item whole again.

Jake mentally compared it to boiling water, with the water being the energy Jake wanted to infuse with energy, and the minerals and whatnot being what Jake needed to protect. He had to ensure that these were not heated up in the slightest during the entire boiling process, and that he only released his control when the water had cooled down again, allowing the water and minerals to mix again. Again, super oversimplified, but Jake had always found that it helped him to mentally dumb things down.

This approach had ultimately resulted in Jake creating that Lesser Primeval Iron Flake, which, while still a little bit unstable, didn’t seem like it would blow up unless Jake tried to mix it with anything else. Oh yeah, that was another massive problem for later: how to actually use these ingredients infused with Lesser Primeval Energy. But, a problem for later was also a problem for future Jake as he kept working on “purifying” ingredients using his Lesser Primeval Energy.

Oh, on a side note, it had taken Jake like six days to more or less replicate the effects of Grand Alchemist’s Arcane Purification. Reducing something to its most basic state was effectively just the transmutation process mentioned before, where he removed unwanted elements to only have desired ones, at least that’s how he understood it. Increasing stability was also not super hard, and likely a requirement of that skill, as removing unwanted elements could result in instability if overdone. In fact, considering Grand Alchemist’s Arcane Purification was all about removing and destroying unwanted elements using his destructive arcane energy, his transmutation method was probably better.

Jake hadn’t gone for any skill upgrades, though. He wanted to do everything in one go to make sure he hadn’t made any mistakes. As an example, if he’d upgraded it to a version that focused on destroying all unwanted properties, it definitely would have been harder to then upgrade it to a version all about transforming them instead. Better to just do everything at once, even if Jake could likely upgrade it to an epic rarity skill or better here and now, should he so desire.

However, Jake kept going, turning his alchemy lab into a series of explosions for several more months, and slowly found success. He made more Lesser Primeval metal flakes and motes, but working with flowers still took longer. Jake could successfully empower the life energy within a Red Lavender, but the final part, where the entire flower did not explode, still eluded him.

During this time, he wasn’t disturbed by anyone despite people definitely being around and likely wanting to visit, but he guessed Villy kept them away. The Malefic Viper watched Jake at every moment, and when he used Invocation of the Malefic Viper to test things, he more vividly felt the Viper inspect everything.

When Jake crossed the year-mark since he first created that little unstable Gold Mote, stray thoughts that the Seat of the Exalted Prima event had to be approaching soon entered his mind, but Jake quickly squashed them as he kept focusing. His initial plan of just getting more familiar with Lesser Primeval Energy had long disappeared as Jake set out on his quest to learn how to actually make use of it in a beneficial manner.

Fortunately, his persistence paid off.

Despite it being just another regular experiment that Jake didn’t put much thought into outside of just wanting to do his best, things turned out differently this time around. Jake took the Red Lavender flower and created his “package” of Lesser Primeval Energy within his own body. He filled it with all of his intent, relying on the experience of having done this more than five thousand times already. Of course, the amount of energy used and the nature of the intent infused were slightly different this time around, improved marginally after his last attempt, but that didn’t mean he suddenly expected success.

Infusing the Lesser Primeval Energy, Jake felt the reaction start immediately. The life energy, as well as a few other conceptual energies tied to it, began growing in potency at a drastic rate, prompting Jake to step in and do his job as he tried to ensure that the entire “purification” proceeded in a stable fashion.

There wasn’t even a point where Jake thought this would be it. He was fully focused, relying on his experience and micro-adjusting whenever he felt he needed to. At one point, Jake did feel that things were about to fall apart, so he made one final push as he infused more stable arcane energy into the flower, full of intent. It merged with the flower, and then...

Success.

Skill Upgraded: [Alchemist’s Purification (Inferior)] – Attempt to purify any alchemical ingredient. Purification can help remove unwanted properties from a component, making the finished mixture purer. Must have suitable ingredients. Must have suitable materials. Purification does not require any additional tools or equipment, but the skill’s effect can be amplified using certain catalysts. Adds a minor increase to the effectiveness of Alchemist’s Purification based on Wisdom.

-->

[Primeval Alchemist’s Purification (Mythical)] – For the Primeval Alchemist of Malefic Origins to display his true potential, he needs proper ingredients to work with. Something that cannot merely be found, hence, he must purify and refine them himself. Attempt to purify and refine any alchemical ingredient through the use of Lesser Primeval Energy and arcane energy. This purification can remove unwanted properties from a component by transforming them into fuel, thereby enhancing desired properties. Lesser Primeval Energy will further enhance desired properties, while arcane energy will ensure stability; however, be warned that this type of purification is still inherently unstable. Caution is advised. Must have suitable ingredients and materials. Primeval Alchemist’s Purification requires the use of Lesser Primeval Energy, and can, in rare cases, be amplified using certain catalysts. Adds a noticeable increase to the effectiveness and chance of success of attempted purifications based on Willpower, Wisdom, and Perception.

Thanks for the chapter

Tiarnaria

Finally he levelled up his Jake juice purifier skill

Daniel Everest

Finally the word inferior is removed from his status, Jake must be over the moon

Unwillingmainer

Inferior to Mythical in one jump is certainly worth a year of effort. Let's hope the next system event has some alchemy parts in it.

UNKNOWN

Is Villy gonna give Jake an upgrade token for his boots or nah?

djthomp

Inferior straight to Mythical, very nice. Gotta be the first time we've seen a skill rarity improvement quite that far in one jump.

Sleep

I can see a great future for his bow

Phoenixdrop

Well then good to see that he’s finally starting to truly forge his own personal alchemy legacy and that purification skill looks great but yeah I really can’t wait to see how op his potions and poisons become after he upgrades his potion crafting with primal ingredients heck he might straight up upgrade his potion crafting skill maybe even poison crafting oh man imagine how strong his poisons are going to be

Fyrtue

I think his alchemists flame did as well when he incorporated his soul flame.

Dhia

what do you reckon is the highest increase in skill level in all of history? cause jake got inferior all the way to mythical. the only way i can see this being beat by a god that has a random inferior skill and upgrades it to sacred on above.

Loststar7

Thanks for the chapter and a happy Monday to everyone.

definitelynotbrjenness

Jake actually annoyed me with this one. Did he at any time ask himself, "why didn't sylphies egg blow up?". Seems like he could have gotten somewhere a lot faster with a little more thought.

Tyler S.

Hipe this also leads to a beginning divergence in the melific skills as well

Morazain

Nice biggest skill upgrade in rank I think to date.

Morazain

no he was over inside outside and through it instead :D

djthomp

Oh, good thought. Checking just now his flame skill went from Common to Mythical so one less jump than this one but Inferior vs Common is kinda whatever.

Fdrugc

Tftc big jump. did he succeed?

definitelynotbrjenness

The system got sick of watching Jake try the same thing over and over. Gave him all the upgrades at once just to get it over with.

Borbino the great

It scales off perception he’s never failing with this skill😂

Borbino the great

What was his meditation skill before he upgraded it?

Dhia

epic i think

Alexander C Hyde

Even if Jake had taken all the energy inside of a million such gold bars and merged them into a single one, he would never have met the threshold in Records or energy to become a legendary item, yet with a single one, he’d create(d) that Gold Mote.

Episode 19

had to take a double take when it went from Inferior to Mythical in one jump tyftc

Spize

Bit off topic, but I can't help but wonder when Villy is gonna give Jake the Yip of Yore snack he set aside for him. I always had the idea it was gonna be early B grade for some reason

Ty Cooper

Tftc. So glad Zog didn't make this into a cliff dangling us over the side by our toes.

Kt-x

Thanks for the chapter!

RedFaux

I wonder if the version for full on Primeval Origin Energy will be the skill rarity above mythical that isn't divine related that Villy couldn't tell Jake about

RedFaux

He's a feeler, not a thinker. I'm impressed he managed to realise that the Almighty Best Stat Perception wasn't the guy for the job, or that he didn't just keep using Perception and instincts only anyway

Sammot

Would be cool if jake could replicate something like upgrade tokens but make for origin stuff. To give out or use

RedFaux

That would fuck the Records tho, Jake gotta earn it himself

Saleh Alhasan

Nice , I hope he can use these skills to preform more transmutes, I really miss his experience when he made Eternal hunger , how cool if he made a new katar since he already have 2 pinnacle weapons that grows with him

zran

hope there is a title related to make a inferior rarity skill end mythical in a single upgrade

zran

personally i cant wait until he can again produce bane poisons, since it feels to me what that is where it will make the biggest diference

Kaladin

He must have gained a lot of levels and a title for making so many legendary alchemical reagents. Also interesting that origin conceptually is so much stronger than successive iterations through evolution. Usually things grow and get better than being watered down and the origin isn't better just more pure with less weight.

Phoenixdrop

Oh yeah Bane poison god yeah those would be interesting with how they directly target records like I can fully imagine Jake actually making a bane poison that targets literally a single person like how overpowered would that be

Ray Light

I'd rather see him make a piece of armour that grows with him. Perhaps even transmuting his cape to detect umbra's location instead of the other way around (making it detect it's origin hehe)

Ray Light

Why give a B-grade an item that was created from a creature that walked on the empyrean steps?

Ray Light

Because there it was used as a catalyst, not the initiator. Plus, Hawkie and his wife-bird made a formation to guide the energy instead of leaving it to freeform itself like now. All making Sylphies egg etc not go haywire

Exodus Uno

Well that was explained last Jake pov chapter on why using actual primeval origin energy doesn't blow shit up while the lesser version did

Chelsa Roberts

Lol, you know full well that he doesn't even notice levels when he's that zoned in. After all he missed nearly an entire floor in Nevermore when leveling one of his archery skills.

Mitha

A skill upgrade from inferior directly to mythical could be a first

levon

I think origin causes confusion. It is like in fate zero. Gilgamesh has the sword which is the original myth of the sword myth, what all other myths are based on so it is stronger. Basically origin energy returns things to the prototype, cutting everything away which does not enhance the prototype. Its not Excalibur that gets out of a stone and makes a king while being a great sword. It is the original sword, with everything removed that does not make it cut or kill better. The pure concept of a sword. Or in Jakes case, the pure concept of a bee queen. Which apparently is a true royal. At least, this is how i interpret it. How it would work? Either origin energy gives it energy to burn the rest away, or it uses the fluff as fuel to amplify the origin. Maybe something else i cant think off?

JB

What? Villy specifically got it for Jake and told him to wait until B-grade. I was wondering the same. I assumed it would of been when they met after his evolution.

BumAssBumAss

A jump in skill upgrade similar to the arcane soul flame. Look forward to the shit Jake makes with this. Scared meditation, supreme soul flame, now primeval purification. Jake has a lot of strong fundamental skills that can bring him farther up. There is so much potential here.

Spize

Yeah I had a look just now and in chapter 1082, Villy mentions Jake needs to fix his palate skill first. Then they talk about combining it with Ell'Hakan's bloodline item thing.

Bruce Sheplan

Can u imagine giving arnold some of those primeval metals… i think he might kiss jake…

phil

honestly wouldn't be shocked if the lesser primeval energy skill also upgraded along side purification

Ben Cox

I feel like it's important to remember that Jake is literally one of the best new talents in his entire new universe, he does a crap load of things at high conceptual levels and his bloodline gives him an extra push in the things it helps with which is practically everything boosting him even further. Most of his skills didn't even make sense to have as a "normal" C-Grade.

Josie

Hmm.. Can he eat his new creations to learn their alchemical uses? Palate hasn't really debuted its improved skills, so it'd be fun to test it here. Or since the motes/flecks have his Bloodline would eating them just give him a tummy ache? Jake's good at surviving explosions anyway, so I'm sure it'll be fine 😅 Also, I wonder which Legacy he used Invocation on? Pride I guess? I hope Villy got some fun Records from it

Sushi

During evolution between grades a skills rarity is adjusted based on their new grade. So a mythical skill means mythical for that grade.

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter!

Dalton Service

Well Villy did say he was going to give it to Jake when he got to B Grade. But I think since his evolution was so crazy he wanted Jake to go experiment with his new skills first.

MarineDebris

Rituals have been when Jake had the most success using Jake Juice.

ABTelford

Thanks for the chapter. Hope we get some action soon

Dalton Service

I think eternal shadow was a close second

Thenais

that's some tatsuya onii-sama level of technoblabla

Jeroen Turkstra

Once they are stable. Yeah that would be great.

Corvid

Can't wait for Jake and Arnold to make a new katar of of primeval voidiron or something batty like that

Jeroen Turkstra

Yeah a small one. Like big jumper or big leap. Doesn’t have to give %stats but does something else cool or minor. Like increasing chances of skills jumping multiple levels slightly.

Mikerz

Need as many professional levels as possible before the event to stay ahead

Aaron Hicks

Villy's quietly chanting, "keep using basic ingredients."

Rewdan

Thanks Zogarth great way to start the week

Samuel Jones

I am very highly expecting Jake to do something more ridiculous than normal relatively soon

tomtom

Maybe he can use the lesser primeval energy on his skills, maybe on his race or maybe try to replicate what happened against valdemar. Im excited

Anomander_Rake

I’m right there with you. Imagine what he’s going to do with all those skills you mentioned when he stays using all the amazing materials he’s been stockpiling. He has the dragon heart, desolation core, El Haken heart, and the yip-of-yor snack that Villy made him! As a side, I know I’m missing way more stuff too. Could definitely use an entire week’s worth of chapters so Jake can sit down and make an inventory of all his hoarded goods and make a high level plan about what he will do with them all!

Numbzy

Nah, he 100% doesnt care about the price of these items at all.

Shandlar

That's true. An explosion that only lightly obliterated all the skin off one hand is hardly enough to be a danger to his new super palate. He should 100% keep some iron flakes in there for a while to see if palate and sageacity can glean some hints towards their potential usage and maybe even refine them to a more stable/usable ingredient.

Nathaniel France

Yeah this skill sounds suspiciously like what happened in that fight. Using lesser elements or whatever as fuel? Check. Using the energy to crack into higher level concepts and records (his theory on how origin energy works) check.

Shandlar

Went from 41 years to make a mythical skill that just barely didn't downgrade from evolution to a single year straight to B grade mythical. Dudes getting properly elite in actual skills instead of just taking advantage of lucky encounters to stay ahead of the stat title curve. Exciting stuff.

Bjarne Hansen

While sitting over a cauldron is Duskleafs favourite ... Jake should listen to Vilastromoz, and go to the Gate of Enlightenment, as pure strength without concepts will weigh him down. After all, he is literally walking in the footsteps of the First Sage.

Keldra

He wasted a whole year at this?

Justin Aether

"wasted" brother he is a B grade. A year is fuckin light speed for this kind of endeavor

Jelani Willock

inferior straight to mythical, moving crazy

ThatGuy

Idk if he can. Not because he can’t eat it but because it’s an entirely new material in the multiverse. There’s no records or very little records about using these ingredients in alchemy. The system would have to just feed him info. He’s not gleaming it from history or records (kinda the same thing) anymore

Saleh Alhasan

Oh for sure , any transmutation tbh , I love when he create equipments as i said that Eternal hunter making was epic especially with the " great famine" and all lol

JG

For real. They just mentioned how vesperia’s sisters wouldn’t mind waiting thousands of years for her to evolve to B-grade. Even for a C - grade, that’s mad quick.

Drexnaw

Zogarth has don a grat job showing how time has been extending going from the bggining whr months wre long to casually talking about aa year passsing ona singl task it really makes you thinkthat thy are more than mortal

Asterrahl

It's true his lifespan is much increased, but a year to succeed in this is a long time to me. Not too long, but pretty damn long. It was hard. On the other hand, a year to make a mythical skill is pretty good.

SmokeJam

I'm just gonna add: Remember how long he took to learn Primordial Shroud in a time chamber? How long it took him to create his Heartrot Poison? A year is absolutely nothing in the context of this story and his grade.

Josie

The creativity needed to write these kinds of chapters is really impressive We're all sitting here reading about a fictitious guy in a fictitious world who's trying to improve a fictitious skill in the fictitious art of alchemy Yet there's so much detail about the experimentation, methodology, course correction in mindset, and finally success that we're able to nod along at the logic of the whole process and go "Oh, impressive. Look what this guy accomplished!" All that to say, thank you for the depth of this chapter 🙏

Xander

TFTC :) Suggested edits: "yet with a single one, he’d *create* that Gold Mote" should be "created"

SmokeJam

Eh Vilas actually discouraged him from reaching out to the Gate more than necessary as he is still vastly underprepared and underpowered to deal with the purity and multitude of concepts there. He told him to meditate, thats completely different. Just because Jake can use Meditation to visit the gate again, he should do so very sparingly and cautiously as he still incurs soul damage if exposed too long. Also, he is not walking in the footsteps of the First Sage at all, he is using his guidance and teachings but for his own path. Again, something completely different.

Bjarne Hansen

Before he evolved to B-Grade, yes ... point is, the Gods that attacked Jake, are not dead ... their karmic bonds have been severed. The First Sage, sensed Jake ... and the First Sage, was not an immortal, but with knowledge rivalling the Gods in C-Grade. He gave Jake those boots, as well as directed him to the Gate, for a reason. These concepts are more important than mimicking Duskleaf, by bashing his scull to the cauldron ... what did viastromoz call Duskleaf? a dunce of a disciple? I bet, the hidden faction ... are the dao lords.

Azayrian105

I don't know how to feel about it becoming Mythical. The Mythical rarity is starting to lose its luster to me. I don't know if that is good or bad as it just seems to be happening more and more now. Maybe it shows his growth but who knows?

Josie

it'd lowkey be hilarious if he can't do basic purify water anymore bc of this primeval stuff lol

Daniel

Dude, it’s impressive he did it in a year. It was a mythical skill. The last time he got a mythical skill like eternal shadow, it took 2 books and 80 years of time skip training.

SmokeJam

The First Sage gave him plenty more than boots, still doesn't mean he walks in his footsteps. Alchemy is a core of his path and he has done it since the beginning of this tale. Why should he not progress it? Neither is he mimicking Duskleaf, he had the joy and drive for the profession even before he knew Duskleaf. I honestly don't understand where you pull these incoherent thoughts from, have you read the story until now? It is on par with the usual flow, Vilas told him to not mind the gods as that is his job, not a mortals one. He has more Karmic connections than most and he will keep creating and severing them, so why suddenly bother with that and run around like a headless chicken? He tried shortcuts and paid dearly for them, his only job is to advance his power and path, profession and class. And learning how to use his unique energy and skills is one of them, since 15 books now. Nothing more, nothing less. He deals with mortal enemies, Villy deals with the divine. That's their equal friendship. He can't do anything if the gods seriously attack him, he already played the ace he had in the perfect situation. The only way he can protect himself is by growing stronger, not by trying to reach for divinity in bloody B-grade, still freshly evolved might I add.

Bjarne Hansen

Of course he is walking in his footsteps, he is literally walking "in his boots" .... and everything else, the first sage gave him, suggest ... he planned it, from the start. Whatever Jake is to do ... he is doing, what the First Sage set him on the path to do ... what did the boots say? I really hope, Z doesn't drag it too long ... we want to see Jake's parents, meet Sylphie and Artemis ... we want to see Valdemar, acknowledging that Jake is as important as he is, in the evolution of the Human race .... just for a few pointers. But, as I see it ... Jake needs to get to understand, that "concepts" are the most important part. Not bashing ones head with the couldron.

SmokeJam

No point in arguing with you if you just want instant gratification. Maybe go read a manga then if you can't deal with a properly evolving storyline.

Keldra

I mean, he should be training for the seat of the exalted prima event, not purifying water.

Bjarne Hansen

No need to be offensive, because we disagree. Am pretty sure both of us will be surprised in the end .... so, no instant gratification desire here.

Azayrian105

I feel like it would have been more impactful if it upgraded to unique rarity. Makes it in line with the lesser primeval origin energy skill. I am not sure though. By the way I am not trying to say this chapter is bad by any means, in fact I love these kinds of chapters, just that it feels less impactful otherwise. I do feel like just including the lesser primeval origin definitely puts it in the realm of mythical, just that mythical might not be the best fit in the naming convention to keep it impactful.

Don Peligro

I think the real question here is whether Jake is still going to be able to get blood out of his floorboards with this upgrade. 🤔

Kirin

Uhh, guys that’s the point? Once you get one skill of a rarity it becomes easier to get more skills of the same rarity because you have the records to support it. How’d you guys miss this?

Azayrian105

Of course you are totally right and with him achieving the rarity of sacred I'm sure Mythical will be even more achievable. I guess what I am trying to express that the Mythical skill doesn't seem as impactful anymore. And like I said in my first post that could very well be the intention. I am just trying to think of ways to keep its impact by making it just the little bit rarer. But I do concede that you could very well be right.

Kirin

Or Sultan, he loves this stuff.

Jordan Rogers

It literally just mentioned that the big prima guardian event is about to begin, with loads of factions ready to duke it out.

Kirin

1. The first breath almost killed him and he dodged the second one. He tanked nothing. 2. Yeah fights will take longer everyone has a ton of HP. He mostly fights people stronger than him, one grade higher in the later stages. 3. No real drama but at the same time idc about Artemis really either. I mean if you don’t like fights, world building and characters just doing stuff for legit decades I’m not sure how you lasted this long tbh.

Cory S.

By the time we see Jake’s nephew again he will be in his 20’s if not older depending on when he visits with them again. I’m loving this buildup and upgrading to his alchemy. I look forward to seeing what kind of nonsense Jake creates that breaks the multiverse economy with his lesser primeval energy. Should prove to be hilarious if Zog deems it worthy to give us. TFTC!

LemonPerson

Or maybe Primeval Voidsteel. both sound gas though

Biggy smalls

Mythical shouldn't be very special anymore. Especially when he's upgrading a skill with Lesser Primeval Energy. Thats a skill pulling "liquid" from a transcendent pool of power. Mythical is the minimum a skill should be using an ingredient that potent. It's like when Jake Uses loads of expensive material to compile together a makeshift poison. His skill is often shit when crafting it because it's his first one but the expensive/rare ingredients give it a bump, make it possible.

Biggy smalls

No, Villy only said not to spend too much time at the gate as he's still just a mortal (He only has a finite number of years and he could lose some momentum if it's more than a thousand years or so). To which Jake replied, "it's me. I couldn't sit still that long without needing to hunt something". He most certainly should sit by the gate for a good number of years in B grade. Maybe in Time dilated chambers as to not lose too many real years if he can avoid it studying concepts.

M Schweibold

Nice write up, but I think most Gods that would have taken Villy on when they thought he was weak said oh shit after yip.

Kevin Watson

i guess we’re just at the point where the concepts Jake is messing with are like, fully blooming, he’s always been OP with way more high rarity skills than other people

Zogarth

Look, I'm tired of seeing your nonsensical comments. Stop bitching. If you don't like something, leave or frame what you have to say in a manner that makes sense. All I ever see from your comments is you doing some made-up "math" that makes no fucking sense in context and is just a figment of your own head-canon. You make up conclusions and intent on my part based on nothing at all, and keep making up "facts" out of nowhere. So stop, leave, or become less insufferable. I've blocked people for way less, but I haven't done so with you yet because you seem genuinely interested in discussion. The problem is that you argue like the average Redditor on R/Powerscaling, where what you have decided is the truth is the inarguable facts.

SetherAedekae

Honestly I assumed it would be higher, given that he can basically mass produce legendary materials now

DefinitelyNotMinaga

Kind of hilarious to know he blew up his lab like thousands of times though! ;;D Proper alchemy stuff right there! But from inferior to mythical is OP!

DefinitelyNotMinaga

Indeed a work of pure art and genius. This story is well written with great world building and every side character is interesting in its own. The foreshadowing is insane and i have yet to find a single plot hole lol. i like the fact that we only get status updates on the MC yet vague updates on the other powerhouses, it leaves much room for imagination. Sylphie is the absolute bestest character BESIDES MINAGA and the bloodline cheater. This story deserves an anime and i can hardly wait ;;D

Little Silly

And it’s immersive enough that people generally won’t be going through that whole thought process, it comes across as just “the guy doing the challenging complex thing” explained in an interesting manner.

Hornbach

Yes but it will turn them into " lesser primeval floorboards ( legendary)"

Jordan Rogers

Dudes gonna be peak D grade when we see him, and jake will be like hey you still exist?

Asterrahl

Who says they aren't the same thing? Just wait and see how he buys his way to the top by flinging out primeval upgrade bananas.

UNKNOWN

He done pissed off the author with his poor math skills.

Zogarth

The basic misunderstand is that you think it's possible to make things into a math equation. It's not. Never will be. This is not a VR game where things do damage numbers; things like HP/Mana/Stamina are just representative numbers. One person's resources may have greater effects than another's. When it comes to how much damage something does, there are also so many damn factors to consider. Especially now with concepts being a thing. There are nomological rules in place, and trying to put hard numbers on that just isn't possible. Not even making estimates can be close. Just one example of why it doesn't make sense is that someone's resistance to a blow depends on how "prepared" they are to take it, or that anyone can make themselves weaker just by wanting to be. Something Jake at times uses to trigger Moment of the Primal Hunter when otherwise it wouldn't. You talk a lot about Jake surviving a Dragon's Breath, but he didn't tank it. He used everything he had to block it, and only suffered what did leak through to do damage after going through everything else. Moreover, he was fighting a light dragon. Light magic is generally weaker, but a lot faster, and Jake's Scales are especially effective against light magic. He took the blow head-on because he could, but with the second one, he had no way to block it as he'd spent all the stored energy in his cloak and whatnot. I'm not even going into the Sword Saint getting "3x stronger" based on... what? Again, you are making up a reality and rules. He got significantly stronger, yes, but your so-called math just doesn't make sense with the story. I think that's my main gripe with all your comments and why I say you make up head-canon. That in itself is fine. You trying to do "math" to figure things out is fine. The problem is that you get mad and take your own math as facts to argue that something is "bad." It reminds me so damn much of a person I blocked long ago who was so damn angry that Miranda and Jake didn't get together because they had written a short fan fiction where they did, and the "chemistry" of that fan fiction didn't materialize despite me "clearing hinting it would." The fact that I can see you just want to theorize and have fun is why I said I didn't block you. You want to have good discussions, but the problem is that you don't argue based on the rules of the story, but the ones you made up. Theorizing about rules is fine, but again, if those rules then don't work exactly how you think they should, then realize that's not a problem. It's not an issue. It's just your theory not being true. Believe me when I say I put A LOT more thought into all these things than any reader genuinely could. I know a lot more things and have a lot more rules in the background that I will not share to keep things consistent. These do get shared when things are right, but not all of them. You are purposefully missing so much information that, and let me once more reiterate, no math you make regarding damage and whatnot will EVER make sense or should be taken as anything other than fun theoreticals.

Little Silly

I mean the First Sage feels like the kind of plot hole we have in real life, but yeah

UNKNOWN

I called it lol.

Zogarth

I am not going to respond more either, but do let me make some things clear: The Sword Saint won because those three were easy opponents for him and his new abilities. They were dumb beasts who were extremely durable normally. The Sword Saint uses a Transcendence with concepts that, for the most part, entirely bypass that durability. Someone like the Rainbowfeather Sovereign would have been a far harder opponent, despite being considered overall weaker. Secondly, Jake is still very much a glass canon... against the opponents he faces. Jake, against anyone his own level, is through sheer stats a tanky guy now, more so than before. Doesn't mean he is in any way durable against those far more powerful than himself. All his increased durability means is that he can better handle SOME attacks. Like large explosions, minor cuts, grazing blows, things like that. Direct hits will still prove incredibly dangerous and need to be avoided. Also, you keep using numbers. Try to avoid using numbers. Theorize about damage, sure, but stop using numbers. I do have plenty more things planned, and a lot has been forshadowed already that we just haven't gotten to yet. The multiverse is a big place with plenty of things out there. I personally think that the Exalted Prima storyline is going to be pretty good, which, in the end, is all that matters. That really is the point I need to reiterate. The only opinion that actually matters is my own. It has been that since nearly the beginning, and I'm sticking to it. If I like something, and others don't, find, but trying to leave comments telling me what to do, I will likely result in a block. Oh, and if anyone talks about unsubbing... fine? Go, I'm good, don't make yourself suffer. In fact, I'll gladly help them along by blocking them, giving them a refund in the process so they are free to go enjoy something they'll actually like. Primal Hunter started as a story I wrote for myself because I wanted to, and I enjoyed writing it. I'm not going to listen to "feedback" to "improve" the story and end up like so many other authors I know who have long since stopped actually enjoying writing a certain story they started out loving. Not to misunderstand, I have taken ideas and done things based on what I've read in comments because I thought something sounded cool, but again, that's because I like something. Once you start writing for the audience, you stop writing for yourself and really turn it into a job, making it no longer enjoyable as you stop recognizing the story anymore. If it isn't enjoyable to write anymore, I might as well ride into the sunset and retire. That's why, and I've said it before, this is my story, and my story alone. Everyone is free to come along for the ride, and I appreciate everyone who does and wants to enjoy this story with me, but I won't change it, and I'll keep writing what I want, likely long after I've stopped publishing anything or earning any money from it.

Corey S

Yeah I honestly don’t understand why everyone wants to see his nephew😂

Corey S

Jake is #1 on the nevermore all time leaderboards. It is expected that Mythical is more commonplace than not. In regards to how he (and his skills) compares to other B he doesn’t. He has blown them out of the water. Sure, those at Peak can compete because they have who knows how long perfect their craft, but he is at the pinnacle. He achieved Sacred in the C grade. He has so many accomplishments that Legendary and Mythical are expected

Wren Redwood

Tyftc, love to see some more worldbuilding. The alchemy chapters have always been some of my favorites becuase they’re so immersive

Chloe

Nice Tyftc

Botond Nyitrai

So he could ask him a question then say: "Good answe nephew!" 👏

Cory S.

Zog felt the need to introduce his nephew to us the readers and in each subsequent visit to the point where he asked Jake to bring him back a moon rock and since then we haven’t heard from them. The last update we got was I believe they were all off world. This being why I made my comment. I personally enjoy the Slice of life content stuff with his family and when Jake is at the Order and interacting with other mortals.
