Jake naturally had high expectations for his upgraded Alchemist’s Purification skill. If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have put so much effort into upgrading it and making it work with his Lesser Primeval Energy.

However, that didn’t mean he wasn’t taken aback when he saw that the skill had jumped straight from inferior to mythical rarity. Not too long ago, he had raved about the massive jump to his Alchemical Flame after he absorbed his Supreme Arcane Soulflame, but now he had already surpassed that feat. Not by much, mind you, as the jump between lower rarity wasn’t that big compared to the higher ones, but still. This was an incredible improvement.

He had, based on the fact that he kept being able to create legendary rarity items, fully expected to see himself upgrade it to legendary rarity. That seemed to make the most sense, and he also took into account that he’d just evolved to B-grade. Upgrading skills in B-grade was harder than in C-grade by a good margin, and even his current skills were now considered relatively weaker within their grades, despite not receiving any actual downgrades in rarity.

So, for his new Alchemist’s Purification to jump straight up to mythical rarity felt extreme. Jake didn’t question it too much, though, but instead viewed it as an explanation of just how potent this Lesser Primeval Energy actually was. Just this one instance of Jake applying it in a relatively simple manner made the skill potent enough to warrant reaching mythical rarity.

Lesser Primeval Energy Manipulation was a unique profession skill, so Jake could only really guess what rarity the skill would roughly correspond to if it wasn’t. His initial guess was that it was somewhere between mythical and sacred rarity, leaning more towards the latter, but now he doubted that was even the case.

Either way, it was clear that the only reason Jake had managed to so easily upgrade it to mythical rarity was solely due to just how overpowered this Lesser Primeval Energy was. It definitely also played a role that Jake was, well, Jake. He had an innate ability to control this energy that he suspected was unrivalled, and, as the rarity of his manipulation skill suggested, unique. Without both of those factors, there was no way Jake could have succeeded so soon.

Which also begged the question… if Lesser Primeval Energy was that potent, just how fucking overpowered was Primeval Origin Energy? And just how damn awesome was Jake for being able to access and use it?

Questions that Jake doubted he would get the answer to anytime soon. Okay, he knew the answer to how awesome he was already, but not about just how good these Bloodline-related energies were. He also didn’t really have the time or energy to think about it, as, for now, he still had to fully digest the fact that he’d succeeded and now sat with a very different flower than what he’d started with. It still looked like a regular Red Lavender on the surface, but upon deeper inspecting, it was evident it wasn’t.

The entire flower felt dead, even though it looked the same. The stalk and nearly all the flowers felt entirely devoid of the usual energy, now holding only an iota of what was usually there, barely enough to keep the flowers from falling apart. Even then, it would still wilt and turn to dust if not for stable arcane energy holding it all together, allowing these small fragments of concepts and energies to still do their job of maintaining the Red Lavender’s identity as a Red Lavender.

However, one part of the flower was substantially different from the rest. A single small flower, no, just the center of that flower, emanated powerful energy that far surpassed the entire herb before. Using Identify on his new creation, Jake was pretty relieved with the result.

[Lesser Primeval Red Lavender (Legendary)] – A Red Lavender that has undergone purification using Lesser Primeval Energy. The life affinity mana stored in the small flowers has been substantially purified and amplified, with the rest of the lavender nearly wholly bereft of energy. Relatively stable, though it still shows signs of instability. Formerly known as the main ingredient of health potions, though now its viability for that usage has become questionable.

Not getting any information from his use of Identify indicated that Jake lacked sufficient understanding of what he was looking at. Now that it showed him at least something resembling a proper description was massive progress and proof of his increased comprehension of this newgained energy.

He also felt that it was a lot more stable than even his Iron Flakes, so that was awesome, seeing as flowers were naturally more unstable than metals, meaning he had done a far better job with this Red Lavender than anything prior. Unsurprisingly, given that this was the attempt in which the system acknowledged his efforts and granted the upgrade.

Now, as for the question of what he could use this Lesser Primeval Red Lavender for, the answer was… fuck-all. There was no reality where he could actually craft anything using it, as the energy remained far too potent, and even if Jake managed to create a whole set of ingredients purified using Lesser Primeval Energy, he had absolutely no confidence.

The altered ingredient was incredibly potent compared to any regular alchemical ingredient Jake had ever worked with, and it was still a lot more volatile than regular high-rarity materials. What’s more, while Jake had successfully manipulated the energy within one Red Lavender, if he actually wanted to craft anything using it, that wouldn’t be enough.

His purification had condensed and reduced the total quantity to an incredibly minute level. This meant that if Jake wanted to have enough ingredients to craft an actual potion, he would have to use hundreds of Lesser Primeval Red Lavenders at once. And Red Lavender was just one part, and he would also need the same amount, if not a higher quantity, of altered grass.

Trying to fuse the energy of hundreds of legendary items at once was already a tall order, and that was without considering the volatile nature of what he created.

All of this is to say that despite Jake feeling pretty damn good about his successful upgrade of Alchemist’s Purification, he fully realized that, as things currently stood, he had no way of actually using his Lesser Primeval Energy for anything. The ingredients he could purify were way beyond his ability to use for anything, and he even doubted he could use his new skill on too powerful ingredients yet. Not without a lot of practice anyway, as while the system’s assistance when he used Alchemist’s Purification was significant, it didn’t guarantee success. There was a reason it said ”attempt to” in the description.

Speaking of the actual skill description, there really wasn’t much to say, was there? Despite being a mythical rarity skill, his new Primeval Alchemist’s Purification was a pretty simple skill that did exactly what it said on the tin. It even did this in the exact way he’d planned for it to, making all aspects of it wholly unsurprising. The only somewhat surprising things were the first flavor text and the fact that his new skill came with an in-built warning that he was dealing with some serious concepts that were inherently volatile.

Overall, Jake was happy with the upgrade he’d gotten, though admittedly, he had gotten a bit ahead of himself by working on this just after evolving rather than waiting till he grew into his B-grade power. He could create super-powerful ingredients now, yes, but he had no way to actually combine them; Jake was capable, and he would be able to in the future.

He hadn’t exactly wasted his time either, even if his goal was just to grow stronger, because with his newly upgraded skill, he’d even gotten a bit of experience. Actually, he’d gotten a lot more experience than he thought he would.

’DING!’ Profession: [Primeval Alchemist of Malefic Origins] has reached level 360 - Stat points allocated, +125 Free Points

…

’DING!’ Profession: [Primeval Alchemist of Malefic Origins] has reached level 362 - Stat points allocated, +125 Free Points

’DING!’ Race: [Human (B)] has reached level 355 - Stat points allocated, +135 Free Points

’DING!’ Race: [Human (B)] has reached level 356 - Stat points allocated, +135 Free Points

Three levels perhaps didn’t seem like a lot, but this was B-grade. B-grade levels tended to take a lot longer than C-grade ones, something Jake really hadn’t felt so far with how he’d progressed in his profession. He’d started getting a windfall of levels due to Spirit of Man the very minute he evolved, and right after that, he’d spent roughly one and a half years getting another three levels by upgrading a skill from inferior to mythical.

It was genuinely an insane leveling speed, and Jake knew it wasn’t a streak he could get going. The Spirit of Man endeavor was a one-off, and this upgrade also wasn’t exactly something he could repeat at-will. He also suspected that part of the reason this upgrade gave so much experience was how closely it aligned with his new Path. That could signify that upgrading Malefic Viper Legacy skills would give less experience going forward, but only time would tell. Then again, who knows? Maybe Jake had just gotten levels this fast due to his new Spirit of Man being absolutely broken, increasing his experience gain by way more than he initially thought. Totally a possibility that he was sure he would either confirm or disprove throughout all of B-grade.

For now, he was just happy with what he had, and honestly, he didn’t even want to think about complicating stuff like that. After working with Lesser Primeval Energy for so long, Jake felt like he needed a serious break. Constantly summoning and manipulating such a powerful concept took a serious mental toll, even for a B-grade.

Sighing, Jake shook his head as he stood up and stretched. After that, he quickly put his flower into a crystal bottle to keep it safe from environmental energies and put it together with his other Lesser Primeval creation. He flashed them a small smile before sitting down and entering meditation, where he allowed his mind to fully rest.

He didn’t go for a full mental recovery but just sat there for around half a day before he opened his eyes again, feeling somewhat rejuvenated. Jake wanted to get some proper shut-eye for the first time since he evolved to B-grade, but before that, he had one important thing to do.

There was a table with the Lesser Primeval Energy-infused Iron Flakes and the Red Lavender to address before he could do that. While Jake rested, he did do a little bit of thinking, and while he concluded that he didn’t have anything he could use them for, that didn’t mean they were useless. In fact, he had a good idea of how to avoid them going to waste.

Jake took all the items he’d made during his journey to upgrade his Alchemist’s Purification skill and put them together on the table. Besides the flake and herb, there were several failed products that were still very unstable and had yet to actually explode, and Jake reckoned these would also do fine. These had naturally not been on the table, as Jake didn’t want to risk blowing up his actual successes, so he had stored them within a separate barrier in a whole other room.

With everything on the table, Jake nodded and smiled as he looked towards the ceiling. He had a feeling that a certain someone was about to be quite happy. Jake quickly started initiating the skill as a complex magic circle appeared on the table under the many miscellaneous items infused with Lesser Primeval Energy. An ancient and powerful aura overtook the room as the connection was formed, and Jake activated the skill fully.

“Divine Bargain of the Malefic Viper.”

The items were instantly wrapped in energy before they disappeared, offered as a bargain to his Patron. Seconds passed as the ritual circle remained, Jake waiting for the Malefic Viper’s counteroffer to balance the bargain, and indeed, he soon got his reward.

In place of the several items Jake had wanted to get rid of before they exploded or turned too unstable, Jake ended up with… a Malefic Bargaining Fragment. Unsurprising When Jake had offered a Planetary Pylon back during his fight with Ell’Hakan, he’d gotten an ancient rarity one, but he could instantly tell this one was better than that.

Using Identify on his reward, Jake couldn’t help but slowly nod in approval.

[Malefic Bargaining Fragment (Mythical)] – An item obtained from a successful Divine Bargain with your Patron. Contains Records and energy related to the Malefic Viper. Has many alchemical uses.

”Damn,” Jake muttered to himself. Again, he’d gotten an ancient rarity item from a Planetary Pylon, and now, with these seemingly useless items, he’d ended up with a mythical rarity one. That in itself was great, but more than that, it was the implications of him getting one.

Using Divine Bargain was effectively a way for Jake to force the system to reveal how valuable it considered these items infused with Lesser Primeval Energy to be, and evidently, the valuation was very high. Jake was pretty happy with himself… for about three seconds until a figure appeared behind him and spoke.

”You just got fucking scammed,” Villy said with a cheeky grin as he stood there with the two crystal bottles floating in front of him. ”Like, generationally scammed. Giving your credit card to a random guy on the street who says he’s from your bank levels of scammed. Sending your life savings to some prince or princess who sent you an email with broken spelling tier scam. Investing in-”

”I think I got it,” Jake muttered, having already turned around with a significantly worsened mood. ”And what do you mean I got scammed? I literally just traded a few legendary items, where only two of them weren’t going to blow up soon, and got a mythical one in return.”

”As I said, scammed,” the Viper grinned. ”The only reason you got a mythical rarity Bargaining Fragment is that your skill is only mythical rarity, so that was the limit, and unfortunately for you, I didn’t have the option of offering anything better.”

Jake stared at the god for a few moments before looking down at his fragment.

”I want a refund.”

”No refunds, sorry, sold as-is,” the snake god chuckled as he inspected the two relatively stable items Jake had offered. ”As a reminder, this is a bargain between the two of us. The value of all things is relative and decided by the people involved. I had nothing to use a damn Planetary Pylon for, but this… this is different.”

”I should have just eaten it for Palate,” Jake muttered sadly.

”Could have. Not sure how much it would have helped, and I wouldn’t want anything to blow up in there again, but you definitely could have,” the Viper said semi-jokingly before turning a lot more serious. ”In my hands, however, things are very different. Consider what you have proven yourself capable of doing with your Primeval Origin Energy, and now imagine what I’m capable of? The sheer potential of my Transcendent Skill and your energy.”

The Viper’s aura flared as he held up the bottle, and the entire lab got bathed in his presence as it subtly changed color. The snake god had an evil grin on his face as he turned to Jake with a sinister look. ”Of course, there is just one minor problem…”

With a flick of his wrist, the Viper took out the Lesser Primeval Red Lavender and subtly applied some energy.

”It won’t allow me to use it,” the Viper shrugged as his aura faded, and at the same time, the herb he’d only subtly tried to affect dispersed into pure energy. ”Which in itself raises some questions, wouldn’t you agree?”

Jake was about to answer as Villy held up a hand. ”To clarify, your agreement with my statement has no bearings on the fact that it is odd. Also, I would get into an entire conversation with you about this, but unfortunately for me, someone else has been waiting for over a year already to visit, and I have a feeling you wouldn’t have anything against her visit cutting mine a little short. Oh, and I’ll leave this here, should make you feel a little less scammed than before, though to be clear, you were still very much scammed.”

Before Jake had the time to say anything, the Viper was gone, and on the table next to the Bargain Fragment was an item that made Jake’s eyes open wide as he grinned. Yeah, alright, that definitely did make him feel a lot better about being scammed.

But the Viper can't use it and Jake can easily make more using a resource he generates and relatively common items, so in the end who really got scammed?

Fdrugc

Is it an upgrade thingy for his boots?

Stevean Bozek

I feel like both Villy and Jake got scammed by his skill since neither of them could use the items he made. I guess Villy can study it, the system knows he absolutely adores interesting and unique stuff but ultimately neither of them seem to have any real use for Jake’s items so a mythical fragment he can use for alchemy traded for items he cant use before they become unstable definitely seems like a net gain even if he could have potentially gotten more if his skill was higher than mythical rank

Arrogant Savant

Sounds like Artemis was tempted to barge in at this point.

Catherine

I'm confused. If the Viper can't use the items that Jake made than why are they worth anything to him at all?

Dhia

being scammed to this level is actually horrifying holy shit

djthomp

So, Artemis time next chapter I assume? I had some suspicions about why she was too busy to visit previously, would be interesting if she's already breaking through the next wall and shows up as a newbie Empyrean goddess. I wonder what the item Villy left could be though, the bite of Yip maybe? Surely Villy would need to supervise Jake using that but maybe that's for after the visitor.

Ben Cox

Honestly Villy's partial omniscience skill is wack as fuck, there has to be an absolutely tiny minority of gods multiverse wide who have such niche useless knowledge just to make fun of their chosen with. Hitting him with the Nigerian prince bit is really funny though. Tyftc

Ritsu

Records and research I reckon. Villy just wasted the lavender as a demo but if he really wanted to, I bet he could have learned way more about the Primeval energy. And any records to do with Primeval stuff is always valuable. The skill doesn't care about what Villy intends to do with the bargained items, just what they are potentially worth.

Mike Zebill

Don't forget the viper paid for all the base materials as well

scarredrazor

Hello there Artemis. Jake just had his phone on silent we swear! Yes for a whole year... Look, he's not great with these things. Hyperfixates, you know?

Ben Sheahan

Definitely an unpopular opinion. I live for the interactions between Jake and Villy

Christophe H.

No direct use but Villy can probably use his palate to study this problem.

Kristopher Hanson

I wonder if he is finally giving jake that fragment of yip he promised jake.

Jennifer Leigh

Should have done one bargain per item

Vega

Worthless to Jake, worth a lot to Villy. Also, I reckon Jake would be glad to give Villy something he’d find interesting

Crysus

Upgrade token for the boots hopefully

Alexandre8901

Is it me or the rythme is slow? Can't wait for the filler to end so we can step into the Exalted Prima seat event!

thkiwow

Wfym the nigerian princess was actually a 40 yo guy from malesia? I want my savings back!

E

This guy can’t help but blue ball us

SPL1TT

It's yummy Yip, isn't it?

Kristoffer

I think it's the Yip of Yore snack Willy made for him.

Yahyo Malikov

Did the viper leave him condoms or what?

DeAndrea H

You know, it’s rare to see an unpopular opinion that’s actually unpopular. Good on you! I personally feel like there hasn’t been enough Villy. His last few interactions have been drop and run, here’s a bit of expo, see you when you’re done.

DeAndrea H

I love Villy’s Wikipedia knowledge of old earth culture. He’s hilarious.

Morazain

Interesting that the system says no.

Saleh Alhasan

Can't wait to explore this power more , although I'm as confused as jake lol

MaeWyse

Yea I’m getting a little burnt out, previously it would only take a chapter or two to go over this kind of stuff but it feels very repetitive atm so yea I’m greatly looking forward to the Prima Event, although I did love the bits with Ves and the Ol Man chapters.

Shop JPL

It is unpopular

Bonktrauma

Of course hes gonna interact with villy, villys his deity (friend) and can damn near always talk to him

Daniel

I like Jake doing alchemy. It would be cool to see him go on a field trip to gather materials or explore new things, instead of being stuck in the lab. (Maybe less combat focused but more exploration/ sight seeing).

Dan

Damn, so the ingredients Jake makes with his energy are at least Sacred-value, but the skill level of divine bargain screwed him lmao. Hopefully he learned his lesson and only bargains one ingredient at a time from now on for maximum returns

Numbzy

I doubt its the bite of Yip. Vilas said he would be present while Jake eats it, not a thing to give and leave. Im assuming its 2 six packs of beer for Jake and Artemis.

Leviathan

So I wanted to pop on with a few ideas on what skills Jake could upgrade next with his lesser primeval origin energy and I also wanted to share something i realized recently. So for starters the skills, I think that not only will Jake upgrade his malefic viper skills with lesser primeval origin energy in an attempt to move them towards his legacy, but I also think he's gonna upgrade some of his class skills with it. Primarily power shot, protean arrow, and his primal hunter skills. How he does this, no idea. But the thing I realized recently, (no idea if someone already called this out, I just wanted to share my realization), I was recently listening to book 13 on audible and got to the part where William described his visit to elhakans planet and how he was given assistance with this by some mysterious person who then got killed. I immediately thought that this was perhaps the first, if not one of the first hints of the secret godly organization that's after Jake. Wanting to help him in anyway they can, it also furthering their own goals. Of course the kidnapping attempt was likely an opportunity they thought they could pounce on to try and nab him to nurture his bloodline until he reached a level he could assist them with whatever they want. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to share

Zalut

1st draft feeling all over this

Alex R

Its not a 1:1 comparison, but its like giving a medieval peasant a sports car. Its incredibly valuable to us, but its useless to them because they cannot use it.

Pablo Barbatto

Is has to be a perception based item

Siethrobo

She's Billions of years old. She can wait a measly year

Ra

I still don't get how Jake was scammed. I would've believed if the scamming happened the other way round. Sounds like an excuse for Villy to give the Yip of Yore rewards to Jake.

R Mac

This is the first time I’ve seen someone say they have an unpopular opinion and have it be true. I need MORE Jake and Villy

Yami

What he send had transcendent records, he send something that never was and is completly new to a primordial.

General Black

İf jakes bargain was sacred level he would have got a sacred level item from villy. That's why he is scammed. His bargain skill bottlenecked

Mat

Thought Villy was going to suggest Order lessons for Jake to attend with how much is has been banging his head into to the cauldron to find solutions.

Corvid

Holy shit that part when the viper showed up legitimately almost made me choke to death. Hilarious stuff

MarineDebris

That's what I was thinkin, too.

Steven Tuttle

is it the yip fragment he has yet to consume ?

Episode 19

Scammed? I think your the one who got scammed my dear Villy, you can't even use the item Tyftc

Matthew

Will Jake visit Mars or other planets in our solar system. He already detected natural treasures on Mars.

Mikerz

Artemis fun coming soon

Noah Mclelland

Remember the value of the item is relative to who is bargaining for it, the value for villy for the first time is insanely more because its new even to a primordial. After hes seen it, realised he cant use it it still holds value but probably not sacred anymore.

Beckendwarf

I always seem to forget about that particular skill or Villy’s… until he pulls it out again just to make references that only people from Earth would know just to fuck with Jake and probably leave everyone else majorly confused

Dan

If lesser lavenders and iron flakes were the only thing he'd ever bargain with, id see what you mean, but my point still stands that he should be bargaining one creation at a time for maximum returns on his investment

SirbBrownFluffles

You know, I wondered how useful the divine bargain skill actually was seeing as how Jake and the Viper are pretty good friends, why wouldn't Jake just give it to the Viper if he found something good and couldn't use for some reason. I really forgot about the fragments. TFTC!

Josie

This would have been a terrifying and wonderous partnership for Jake to source Primeval ingredients to our dear Primordial alchemist 💚🐍 Villy even got extra villainous at the mere thought 🥲

ABTelford

I love Villy interactions so much! 😎 thanks Zogarth!

Kyle

I mean there’s more characters but I don’t think many people are going to complain about more of those two Do miss sylphie though And the whole malefic order crew and he needs to have a big session with duskleaf

Kyle

Her, duskleaf, or his chosen

KenTX325

Has Jake checked on the the book from the first sage? Done anything with the sacred skill or upgraded pallet? Is he capable of traveling to the prima space station?

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

Quyan640

I assume Viper’s path is more alchemically focused, so researching primal energy could actually do a lot even without practical results.

Justin

He was just given a version of Jake juice that he can study. He may be able to figure out more about origin energy.

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter!

Raymond Whitehead

Going to assume the seat of the exalted prima access is locked until the system sends out the next quest. But still waiting impatiently for more meditation and eating the snack of yore

Rewdan

I can’t wait for tomorrow I’m done racking my brains on this

Fyrtue

I want so badly for his family to cap off their multiverse travels with a visit to the Order and Jake to freak out about them meeting Artemis.

Fyrtue

I think it was Venus that had the treasure.

Josie

Hmm.. The only thing I can see him using this skill for right now is Palate. And this time I'm not saying that so he can learn more about his Primeval energy (I was definitely thinking that last chapter lol) If there's an item associated with a concept he wants to learn he can purify the item to make what little is left far more potent, then eat it, and then actually sit down and MEDITATE, please! 😅 Some contenders that come to mind: - Jake's time bananas - Rick's death moss - any of Arnold's void items

Rewdan

I think we need more Tom

Josie

.. Wait, can he use his Lesser Primeval Energy on curses? 😬 .. Actually now I'm thinking about him making a Transcendent level plague that he can unleash on a closed space to kill everyone else around him, maybe even higher grades? 🤔 Oh the possibilities 😄

Fyrtue

We've still yet to see an item above mythical rarity other than Sanguine's legacy item from the treasure hunt right? An upgrade token for that high of a rarity would be insane.

Tamathon

Any bets on who it’ll be? My money is on Miranda flabbergasted at his hiatus.

Rewdan

Cheers Zogarth I’m loving your work 👏

Ocellus

Like this comment if you want to see Jake perform a ritual on a world core with his energy! I would love to see this sometime.

J W

Definitely his sugar mama Artemis.

J W

For the skills levels.

Hornbach

That's my guess aswell

Arieh Sochaczevski

Thanks for the chapter! I was expediting the bargain, and it can’t be said to be a scam when he has no actual way to use the materials anyway. Selling them in any way to anyone else world have cost him dearly.

E

It’s been extremely stally and dragged sine the dragon fight. Felt like Jake was behind on levels for B grade so we got the Casper dungeons, then a lot of randomness and leveling till now

Kt-x

Thanks for the chapter!

Bmax

But for a primordial would the value of being able to study something he has never seen before that has profound universe altering effects not have some kind of massive value beyond what could be given in an exchange like that

Léon

Noooo, i wanna knoooow!

ButterflEye

Find a level of curse purer than sin curses

Wselby64

Im guessing the item is another akashic awakening thing and I recon we will be getting another boots upgrade witch is always fun, I also predict that the boots when upgraded will adapt to him and stop giving him any stats and maybe lean more into the other aspects, may lead to some developments with the book aswell

InfernoDroid

The following statement is in no way intended to be a negative one. I think, realistically, with the pacing of the story, the rest of primal hunter series might take place with Jake in B grade. This isn't a bad thing, in many ways it's a good thing. It keeps a massive chunk of the multiverse outside of Jake's league, which is a good thing imo. It still opens up most of the universe to Jake while allowing many new groups and gods to interact with him. It also allows Zog the ability to slowly level Jake up to keep the sense of progression going. And many others. I think this may be the grade that the remainder of the series takes place in just do to how much longer each grade is supposed to take, and how Zog is willing to spend IRL years in each grade. Caveat: the final book could take place with Jake in early A grade, but it just being a finally book were he just gets to flex and kill a god. In fact the whole book might just be his push to A grade and then killing the god

Oblivion

Time for Jake to get to upgrading Bargain. Trading things he can’t use but can make for Sacred items he can use would be broken as hell.

E

Zog is a young man that’s making millions off of a story by releasing a character a day. Why stop if interest isn’t waning and he still likes the work. This isn’t The Land

Mat

I bet dragon egg or upgrade token for boots

Bjarne Hansen

He's being as dunce as Duskleaf right now ... without any "concept" of what he wants to do, of course he'll be scammed.

Grant Griffin

Sincerely doubt he’d kill a god pre-S grade. Unless they are the weakest god conceivable and he does it peak A-grade with some primeval origin fuckery. I can see him being a multiversal first at killing a god as a mortal. I’m pretty sure no gods have been killed by mortals in the story. I don’t remember though since demigod mentions are uncommon.

Rodney

I disagree that this is where the majority of the story will go because he's obviously hinting at Jake's variant race being a god but also he has mentioned that this is a forever story meant to go from weak to peak like other light novels and chapter a day things like this is going to be a published version of shadow slave or something like that so I don't see it ending in acre it's not going to end until he's on the imperial steps himself in my opinion zog has mentioned that as long as he enjoys writing he's going to keep doing so his community likes what he's doing and is making a decent living so I don't think he's going to get bored anytime soon

Josie

When Villy teleports into a room like now, he often chooses to show up directly behind the person he wants to talk to I like to think this is bc the ambush predator in him never really diminished just bc he gained a humanoid body, but is always subtly, quietly contemplating another perfect strike 🐍

Late Night Decaf

Does this mean that Divine Bargain will eventually just become a way for Jake and Villy to share Alchemy Notes and brag to each other? Nice.

Thenais

yup, +1 for the boot booster

Noe Acosta

I think Duskleaf mentioned Gwindyr is known for having killed a god as a mortal, I may be wrong but I remember something along those lines

joker ledger

Highly doubt it. All things so far point to this era have explosive growth and with Jake new racial skills that boost exp gain to everyone he consider kin ie most major characters, I dont see this series ending until Jake reach divinity. Time is just a number at this point with a lot of timeskip covering it. We blew past 50 years in nevermore with 3 book-ish, and it only get that long due to other characters and side quest.

KenTX325

The pace is a bit of an issue. It is based on a chapter each day and ending Friday with a cliffhanger. That can mess up the pace of the bigger story. But it has mostly worked out so far. I think editing some of the slow chapters out of the books would be a good idea.

Bjarne Hansen

He sold away secrets of his energies and bloodline, and vilastrimoz gave him a piece of candy, so he won't feel too bad.

Xander

TFTC :) Suggested edits: "was solely due to just how ** this Lesser Primeval Energy was." missing word. " if Jake wanted to have enough *quantity* to craft an actual potion" extra word. "*he* didn’t mean they were useless" should be "that" "The Viper’s aura flared as he held up the *aura*," this sounds weird. Not sure what you meant to say so cant suggest much but it needs rewording for clarity.

InfernoDroid

My main point being, with the current pace and how each grade is supposed to take exponentially longer, and c grade having taken multiple real world years, that b grade will probably last a very very long time, to the point that Zog, as a writer will probably want to move on, or his life changes, or any number of things. Writing around 150-200 chapters a year for a decade in the same story is bound to burn anyone out. I think B grade is genuinely a fantastic place for the majority of the story to live in with those considerations, and I think we should, as readers, he fine with that.

InfernoDroid

I think B grade will last for 3-5 IRL years, that's a lot of time to get burned out on writing the same story day after day. He's been writing the series for several years at this point as well. Honestly, I think we should be okay with the series never reaching godhood.

InfernoDroid

Early in the series is mentioned that there is a title for mortals that kill a god. When the viper returned to the order one of them was trying to take control of the hall, and villy killed him. I can't remember the title though, maybe it was heretic, but it could be something else tbh

Fylbrom

I think your view of Zog's timeline is a bit skewed imo, but alas, waiting to find out is all we can do. Just chill for now bud and stop worrying about the end when it's literally only a theory. A far out one too. Lol

Fylbrom

Also that demigod fought a god and got away alive, not killed one.

Fylbrom

I bet it naturally happens to earth at some point. No clue as to the build-up but that's my guess

Samuel Jones

"I want a refund" is so damn hilarious

Kota

And, as the one (?) previous use of the skill illustrates, handing the offering to the Viper in person isn't always an option. The skill allows him to cash in unwanted / unneeded items even when he isn't at the Order or near the Viper and doesn't want to (or can't) wait until he is.

Bjarne Hansen

What happened to the guy, who looked at the mural and said he'd like to fight that dragon one day ... did he turn pathetic?

Bjarne Hansen

Serioulsy Zogarth, wake up .... if you continue on this path, you will lose followers, not gain them ... Jake is *NOT* Jacob. Jacob is a blind follower, Jake is a heretic ... stay the course.

Bjarne Hansen

If this show continues, I want a refund too

UNKNOWN

No, he's still here, it's just that he intends for it to be a friendly rivalry, not a fight to the death.

ThatGuy

Jake definitely could have bargained each one of those one at a time and each time got a mythical reward

ThatGuy

Wtf you talking about

StarWolf

Dear author the SLOG gets a bit boring - maybe send Jake out on some big adventure sooner rather than later. Even if you need to take month off to re-plot things - its getting a bit stale.

ThatGuy

God I’m still pissed at that series for ending so horribly. I’ll never read another one of his books because of it.

Bjarne Hansen

Seriously???? Jake is more and more becoming a slave of Villy ... the guy, who wanted to fight that dragon, is now a slave to his patron ... Can only hope that the "dao sect", aka "shadow section", will kidnap him and save him from this folly .... but being as stupid he is right ... The character is supposed to PROgressdss, but currently he Is Regressing ... at an enormous grease. How do you think that is, maybe 2 or 3times concussions with banging his head on his cauldron ...sourously ,,, you are currently putting him on the speckling of idiocracy ... .maybve you can make him the idiot of all idiots ... maybe he'll get get the morrov of expectular of stupidity ... how many do you think have stopped reading "Mark of the Fool"? I stopped at book 7 ... what's your make ? The point I am trying to make, is that the character need to PROgrees, not Regress-

UNKNOWN

Origin of sin type things?

Hoid

I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. I like this chapter I don’t want things to be rushed. If you feel differently just leave don’t put zog down. And Jake is not a slave he is friends with the viper! I don’t get the feeling he is a slave or anything like that from the story.

Gregory Schmitt

Hooray, now that alchemy and all of the class change stuff is over with, we can get some quality time with Artemis and move on to the system event! Hooray!

2026-09-05 04:00 So this has all been pretty interesting, but I have to admit I’m over it. This has been a LONG upgrade process. I feel the details didn’t really offer me much and felt more like a focus on Jakes inner thoughts. Normal for Zog but perhaps a little over done this time around. Perhaps it’s because we haven’t gotten any traction on the main story. The big questions right now I feel are less about his Primal energy and special abilities, and more about the Exalted Prima event and the faction that tried to kidnap him. While I’m sure the kidnapping attempt was due to his abilities, I don’t think the level of in-depth exposition we got about the abilities will really add anything. Granted that IS a great place to hide gems of secrets and hints. While the energy and bloodline etc is a big mystery, that’s definitely going to be late stage reveal, possibly with the biggest partial reveal happening when Jake finally confronts the faction that tried to kidnap him. When it comes to the Primal energy I’m more interested in wondering if the Primal energy will have any battle applications. Because we still know so little about it, it’s hard to speculate with confidence how it would work. I do have ideas but they’re not directions that I think Zog would go. For instance Jake learns to incorporate the energy into himself- similar to a boosting skill like he does with Arcane Energy -or more unlikely- a “form change skill”- think anime inspired. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s going to incorporate Jake’s path as a Hunter and the evolving nature of that as a concept. And the last thing I need him to do is eat the damn Yore Jerky! 😂😂 I’ve been super curious about that for the longest time! The implications of it! The implications of Villy’s abilities too! Eat it Jake!! Eat it!!!

StarWolf

Agreed another another 20 chapters that a real editor would cut down to like 2-3.

StarWolf

agreed - looks like we're in for another snooze fest.

Josie

Patreon subscribers: Cool! Yeah, I'll voluntarily sign up to get chapter-a-day content instead of waiting years for the full book to come out! How exciting! 🤩 Also Patreon subscribers: omg I'm so bored! Why can't an entire book worth of content just be crammed into a few chapters to sate my instant gratification, microwave-meal existence?? The author isn't authoring up to my unrealistic expectations 😫

DirePants

😂😂😂😂 I mean you’re not wrong! But let’s not lump constructive criticism with incessant complaints. These are raw chapters and the responses from the community help him make edits for the final product.

DirePants

Yeah I’d like the alchemy more if we got to see different parts of the process. We’ve seen him do this before, just shorter. While I do like that we see him thinking more and going less on instinct, as it shows his growth and how instinct and intent together are more powerful than either alone. I’d also like to see how alchemy has changed for him over time. We get a lot of details on his thoughts but not the process which would be more interesting filler in my opinion.

DirePants

Oh that’s a clever thought! Yeah I agree 🤔… that’s probably exactly what’s going to happen.

Josie

Constructive feedback is great! What i think some people may miss is that this has been structured to be a book, not some weekly novelette. Imo it's not taking too long, what people want to see happen just is not happening RIGHT now Waiting for the full book to release would ease a lot of the angst in here

Neal Cooper

I hope he got a dragon's egg as his consolation prize.

Daniel Wade

I personally love the crafting side of Littpg's. Good stuff.

nathan

Let’s call this chapter “I’m calling about your items warranty” haha

UNKNOWN

Once a danger noodle, always a danger noodle.

ChadT

And that's how earth is made into a great planet.

GreatCabbage

While I agree that sometimes pacing can be a little “eh” that’s just par for the course with web serials. Every plot point has felt very satisfying, and the actual progression itself has been super consistent and well executed. I absolutely love the story so far, and am excited to see where else it goes! Thanks for all the years!

joker ledger

you mean like every other training, grinding and upgrade montage for the last 14 books? to repeat what have been said, the road to godhood is a LONG one that not everyone can make it. I suppose that apply to readers as well lol.

Gumwadd

This guy is wrong. He doesn't speak for everyone.

joker ledger

ultimately it just premature to make such a prediction when there is still no sign of an ending in sight so it pointless to argue about

Gumwadd

Why is everyone so upset about the slice of life shit. You aren't the only readers so shut up. Zog is a great author and you have to change the pace or you guys would bitch about it always being battle. He already said it once if you dont like it unsubcribe. He doesn't need our patreon money. Its just a bonus to his Amazon earnings.

joker ledger

that why i always wait for a lot of chapters to come out before reading. this is a slow burn story with a lot of build up in between events.

Jeroen Turkstra

why do i suddenly get the feeling they gonna be in some type of danger from the weird unkown faction?

DeAndrea H

Would he need condoms? The Clap can’t touch his healing abilities (or Artemis’ come to think of it) and the multiverse rules say there’s no conception unless both parties want it.

ZanSanCho

Dude what are you talking about?

AsuraFalling

I’m not sure if I’d say he got scammed. He couldn’t use the shit. Villy can’t use the shit (which we already know from way back in Nevermore with Jake’s marble) Is it worth way more than he got for it? Yes, but. Also not really, at least to Jake. Danger Noodle is just returning the favor and bullying Jake 🤣 but in my opinion, Jake totally started it by giving Villy something he always kind of wanted and also already knew he couldn’t actually use. 🤣 Also! Woot! Arty’s coming!! Goddess Girlfriend needs her Jake time gdi!

Rage-baiter in the wild.

Bruno D. Alvim

google "zogarth response reddit" and see Zog's opinion on that

definitelynotbrjenness

I think zog should start live streaming while he types. the fights over what he should do would be epic and he could completely ignore us most of the time. we'll entertain ourselves. of course, he'll only be able to take bathroom breaks when he's at a suitable cliffhanger.

Zebra Proteus

I love these chapters. Thanks Zog. Also, didn't realize how cliffy you were until I got all caught up. Doesn't matter when you have more books to read, but now... haha I love it though. Keep it up.

definitelynotbrjenness

it is not everyone complaining. in fact, I don't recognize the names of the ones that are. probably creative writing majors that spend most of their day on reddit talking about how terrible popular authors are.

Matthew Monroe

I'll be honest I like the SOL stuff, however the past few chapters would need to be combined maybe? Idk, if it was in a book vs being released at a pace made it feel different

Matthew Monroe

I admit I'm a hungry hungry hippo....give. me. MORE!!!!!.... please 😆 🤣

Matthew Monroe

I feel like theres a Jake juice joke in here somewhere lmfao

Josie

Okay, I think we're just different strokes with this then. The last 2 chapters were more than merely a skill upgrade, there were several things going on: 1) these chapters were laying out more of this magic system that is unique to this story. Magic has been written about a lot, and many times there's very little thought that goes into it bc a lot of stories are the author basically saying "the mc just used a thought or had an emotion and then 'woosh!' the problem was magically solved!" That's generic and lazy. No no. We're going to be referring back to these chapters as Jake delves deeper into concepts and the interconnectedness of all things. This means you may hate when he meditates, but I'm looking forward to his dive into concepts and eventually laws. Why? Bc we as readers get to learn the fucking system instead of shrugging "system fuckery" 2) these chapters preemptively answered a lot of questions surrounding Lesser Energy. We are now well aware of the limitations Jake has regarding this energy and can have realistic expectations as he slowly improves it 3) there's that little whisper in the background that maybe Jake's Patron and bestie will not always be on Jake's side. Of course Villy wants Origin Energy, but he has confirmation that even if it's literally handed to him, only Jake can wield it. So Jake's a very precious resource to Villy and oh boy, I bet Villy's quietly scheming for the relatively distant future. All we need is for Villy's ambitions to outweigh Jake's conscience or desires and boom, we have a conflict 💚

Alos

This is why I always read the chapters later in the day. Reading comments and arguments among the readers adds a bit more spice to the chapter itself. That being said, let's go Artyyy!

Kaladin

I disagree, his kidnappers and the world wonder are just sub plot points that will have a climax in this arc. Compared to his primeval energy which is being setup for later arcs. He is walking one path of a Primal Hunter, fighting the strongest beings he's capable of. His other path is deviating from copying another's path, Villy, into his own: a manipulator of origin energy to create items and beings of unrivaled power...(For him to hunt). He's created how many Chosen or peak existences already? This exposition is too segway into him redefining his profession into something entirely his own. We concluded old plot points and are working towards new ones.

ZanSanCho

Villy(i think, don't quote me on the who) told Jake's that there were some powerful peak S grades who had killed newer/weaker gods in the past, to the point it's not unheard of or terribly shocking when it does happen

ZanSanCho

Couldn't have said it better myself

ZanSanCho

Yes, becoming a slave as he... "checks notes"... takes a profession that weakens his connection with villy, and villy at least acts completely okay with it. Yes, obviously becoming a slave

Daniel Hamilton

Whatever happened to the part of yip of yore that Villy put aside as a gift for Jake?

Bruno D. Alvim

Honestly, I downright love The Primal Hunter. Things are explained in a way it all makes sense, and such unimaginable reality becomes imaginable. And it's damn cool. I hope this story takes as long as it can, with all the lore and detail we can get (right, Minaga?). So, from the bottom of my heart (seriously), thank you, Zogarth. P.S.: Would Eversmile use his Karmic Annihilation on some annoying people here? 😆

Josie

Oh great minds! I was just thinking of leaving a note beseeching Minaga to come clean up these trifling heretics 😂

Matthew Monroe

Side note on Villy Jake convo...why no Jake juice joke...spent a year playing with it for alchemy and arti is on her way lol...just saying...missed opportunity

Bmax

Josie I like the way you articulated yourself. I totally agree that this needed some serious laying out as he is implementing a new resource to the entire universe. I also think that villy might be able to use it to track him in the eventuality that Jake gets abducted by this new antagonist. That’s the best part of all this setup is the possibilities are endless and vog is adding all of this for a reason so it is up to me the reader to just enjoy these slow moments for when shit pops the fuck off

definitelynotbrjenness

I have it stuck in my mind that it is something that would be dangerous for jake to mess with at his current level.

Josie

a hot take I agree with

Xerecs

I had thought the same thing.. before his palate skill upgraded to mythical. Now I'm not sure.

Xerecs

How can you say we don't know if the origin energy has any battle applications did you not read the valdimar fight in the collaseum in nevermore?

Xerecs

I'm fairly certain Villy is no longer classified as a dragon. Also if you've been reading the chapters Jake fought and killed a dragon already. It might not of been villy but it was still a dragon.

SqrlyGrly

I'm gonna guess that the item Villy gave Jake will upgrade his boots again.

Kuniku778

Zog channeled his inner jake and forgot. XD

Matthew Monroe

Haha a lil trolling from Zog Haha nice

Brian Block

Villy said "her". It's not Duskleaf.

TYFTC :D

DefinitelyNotMinaga

They’re lucky the system hasn’t integrated their livelihoods ;;) They can only be keyboard warrior heretics in the meantime hehhe. I’m out here trying to enjoy a vacation and Zog is throwing dank records out there like it’s nothing. 2026 it’s too op so far.

Corvid

How is it selling away his secrets when villy was literally getting his voyeur on the entire time and is likely the only person in the multiverse privy to his bloodline. And even then, jake still intentionally keeps things from him as well.

Corvid

Those possibilities? They have a name, "war crimes."

Corvid

Or to give him sentimental gifts for his scrapbook. That way when Jake and Artemis have kids he can be like "Sit here child and let uncle Vilas show you the first planet your dad killed in my name."

Jansemon

yip and arty for sure. TYFTC

OnEyeDevil

i stopped reading when the christmas break came and every time i stop reading for a while and catch up its a fucking clifhanger!

Jason

I know there's no "official release time" for chapters. But that doesn't mean I don't start having a Pavlovian reaction, hitting refresh over and over starting a particular time... (because it's a minute or two faster than getting the email!)

Bruno D. Alvim

When the story is that good and you're hooked, every chapter is a 24h cliffhanger. Except on Fridays, then it's a 72h one.

Rewdan

You called it 👏👏👏

conversation would be way harder and that skill is balanced with his Bloodline. Without his bloodline he'd talk like an old man with dementia trying to sound young. Plus he wouldn't be much of a sage
