Before heading to Venus, Jake just had a little pit-stop at Arnold’s place. Not to actually get anything, but to receive a little head-start for his journey to the other planet.

Making use of his experience gained during the Prima Guardian event and the teleporter he’d made back then, Arnold had constructed what was effectively a slingshot that could teleport someone in a chosen direction for a pretty far distance. Granted, its accuracy was pretty shit, and its range was also more limited than Arnold would have liked, but the scientist didn’t seem bothered as the project was still in its alpha-development stage.

Which also meant that, yes, Jake was an alpha tester. Arnold had tried to teleport weaker living creatures using it before, but the space magic, unfortunately, required consent to be used on someone, and the scientist had found no trusted sapiens who volunteered. He had wanted Sandy to help, but unfortunately, the space worm had been missing in action for a good while.

Jake did reconsider his participation when he saw the device the scientist had constructed.

“That looks like one of those test chambers that either result in the person within turning into a superhero or they just fucking die,” Jake muttered as he stared at the large metal sphere with a completely glossy surface.

“It shouldn’t have enough power to slay you,” Arnold dismissed his doubts as he started charging it up. “Fully charging will take approximately ten minutes. I’ll also make some last-minute corrections and optimizations.”

“See, that doesn’t inspire me with confidence,” Jake sighed, pretty sure part of the reason Arnold wanted him to visit Venus was to also test out this thing.

“Also, considering I’m in the midst of modifying the Voidblade Katar, am I right to assume you are currently in need of a temporary melee weapon?” Arnold entirely skirted around Jake’s concerns. “If so, use this. A test model that should be perfectly usable and prove more than durable enough.”

The scientist tossed Jake a box that he quickly opened, finding a katar that looked practically identical to his old Voidblade Katar. However, upon using Identify, he saw it was “only” epic rarity and seemed pretty lacking compared to what he was used to. It did look durable, though, so Jake nodded and took it, knowing he would only use it for this brief trip. Who knows... maybe he could even do a bit of testing himself without the fear of losing a good weapon.

“Thanks, I’ll make use of it, though I won’t promise you’ll get it back,” Jake said with a cheeky smile. “Mayhap I do a little testing myself, which may prove destructive.”

Arnold looked at Jake. “In that case, here.”

Unceremoniously, the scientist summoned a small stack of boxes identical to the one containing the katar. Jake stared for a moment, doubting he was seeing things right. He was.

The madman had apparently made fourteen more epic rarity katars, all of them for B-grades. They varied slightly in design, the metals used, and other minor details, but they were all pretty damn usable and would serve Jake well.

“I won’t say no to that,” Jake smiled as he put them all away. He also decided not to bother the scientist anymore, so he could focus on making sure the teleporter didn’t accidentally take Jake in the wrong direction.

Seeing as he had some time on his hands and was about to do a bit of traveling, what time was better than now to take a look at his current footwear?

Having made his decision to do so, Jake entered a side room for some privacy and set up a stable arcane barrier so he wouldn’t be recorded. When it came to dealing with these boots, he didn’t want to take any risks and was fully aware that something weird might happen.

Once settled, Jake took out the Upgrade Token before taking off his boots. He felt pretty naked without them on, probably because the only times he didn’t have them on tended to be when he was actually naked. They were just so snug he never wanted to take them off if he could avoid it.

With the token in hand, Jake focused on the item. He knew how these items tended to work, and consciously, he made his desire clear. Jake wanted to do away with any stats given by the boots, as he no longer needed them courtesy of Primal Spirit of Man, and instead have them provide only other effects. As for what other effects he wanted?

That was a bit trickier, so Jake didn’t even try to direct that part. Truthfully, he wasn’t even confident he could. These Upgrade Tokens awakened existing Records within items, meaning they tended to be used on passed-down artifacts and whatnot, allowing them to return to their prime or at least close to it. Many crafted items also had the potential to be better due to the materials used and the smith’s lack of talent, allowing them to work there, too. Then there were system-granted items from dungeons. These could almost always be upgraded.

Items like his Boots of the Wandering Sage were not common at all, so there wasn’t much precedent on what best practice was. Even if there were... this was an item related to the First Sage. He was the living antithesis to the very concept of normality, so any experience of those who came before him was likely useless.

Hence, Jake only used the token with a desire for what it should not do. As for the rest, he was sure that the Records of the First Sage would gladly guide them in a direction he would find more than satisfactory.

As expected, the token reacted near-instantly and did its thing. It started shining and slowly dissolved into streams of energy that entered the boots, at which point it just seemed to disappear into nothingness.

His boots had absolutely no reaction at all as they sat there on the floor, looking old and worn down as usual. Jake couldn’t even tell their aura had changed at all. However, he knew it was working through his Soulbound connection with them.

The entire infusion process was swift and painless, taking only ten or so seconds before the token was entirely gone, and the boots had absorbed every shred of energy and Records. To an outside observer, it probably looked like Jake had just wasted his token, as usually the infused item would have some level of visual change to represent the improvement, something his boots markedly did not.

Jake wasn’t worried, though... at least not at first. However, upon using Identify and noticing nothing had changed in the first part of the description, Jake did get a little concerned, but fortunately, he hadn’t been double-scammed.

[Boots of the Wandering Sage (Mythical)] – Boots once offered to an alchemist before setting out on a journey to experience the world outside at the behest of his master. With time, this wanderer became recognized as a Sage, the same as his master, who once wandered in them, too. This has left a deep mark on this item, allowing it to transcend many ranks despite being made of nothing but simple leather. Its Records continue to awaken, resonating with their wearer and adapting to his Path as they remember where he has wandered. Including the journey to the Gate of Enlightenment. Enchantments:  Reduces energy expenditure from all movement-related skills while also increasing their effectiveness by a substantial amount. Increases sensitivity towards earthbound plants and natural treasures. While wearing the Boots of the Wandering Sage, never let difficult terrain impede you, as you shall always find a solid foothold. Increases sensitivity towards the concept of space.Requirements: Soulbound

Most of the flavor text and abilities of the boots had remained exactly the same, making the changes seem minor on the surface; however, they were most decidedly not. The new addition to the description already made Jake raise an eyebrow.

“Its Records continue to awaken, resonating with their wearer and adapting to his Path as they remember where he has wandered. Including the journey to the Gate of Enlightenment.”

This pretty much said that his boots had been empowered by the Gate of Enlightenment somehow, and when Jake continued down to the enchantments section, he saw that while all the stats were gone, a new sentence had been added at the very end:

“Increases sensitivity towards the concept of space.”

Jake didn’t even know this could be a thing on an item. It didn’t seem like it should be a thing. In either case, it was evident that this effect had taken a lot of the Records “budget” of the item during this upgrade, having even absorbed all the stats the item would give in the process.

To be clear, the other effects that improved his ability to sense earthbound treasures and improve his movement skills had also been upgraded. Granted, those upgrades were more to bring the item up to snuff with his new B-grade status.

He sat in thought for a moment before doing what was perhaps the most important thing. Inspecting the boots closely, he looked where the First Sage had left a message the last time he had upgraded the item. Then, it had hinted that Jake could meet him when he had five charges of Path of the Heretic-Chosen, and he couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to that text.

Checking, he saw that it had indeed changed, and with a narrowed gaze, he read the new words etched there.

May we next meet when twin worlds breathe.

- A Sage

Jake stared at those words for a solid thirty seconds before muttering aloud:

“The fuck does that even mean?”

He had no idea why the First Sage loved doing riddles like this. When he met the man in person, sure, he wasn’t exactly an open book, but he was pretty forthcoming with information. Why then did he have to be so damn mysterious with these? Did he have to, due to some system-fuckery shenanigans, or did he just think it was fun?

Shaking his head, Jake tried to stop himself from wasting brainpower thinking about something like that. From the words, it seemed almost like a foregone conclusion that they would meet again at some point.

Looking upward, Jake spoke to the only person who could hear him. “May we next meet when twin worlds breathe. That’s what it says. I’m totally open to any and all suggestions.”

Jake felt the divine connection briefly form as the Viper spoke. “No clue, man. At least nothing I’m confident enough to share.”

“Glad to hear I’m not just being a moron,” Jake shrugged. “Now that I have you, any comments on the upcoming system event?”

“Prepare for it. I’m also fairly certain that becoming a Chief Administrator isn’t going to be the hard part of this; it’s what comes after. These Seats of the Exalted Prima seem to be nothing more than outposts or entrance nodes to the true World Wonder. That’s where the real competition will begin, and I can tell you that the closer we draw, the clearer it becomes that this World Wonder is one no one can ignore. There’s something oddly different about it. It’s Records are unusually powerful,” the Viper answered in a very serious tone. “It’s enough that many factions are starting to realize that claiming it alone isn’t realistic. Alliances will form, and don’t worry, I’m working on it, though, funnily enough, so far, you’ve had more success forging a solid alliance with another top faction than me.”

“Vesperia?” Jake asked, pretty sure of the answer.

“Bingo. Anyhow, you get back to your preparations; I’m a busy guy on my end. Which is annoying, as I also have this super interesting flake of metal to study...”

Jake didn’t even get the chance to curse the god before the connection was cut. Clicking his tongue, he finally put on his boots and got ready to move, as he saw through his sphere that Arnold was about to be done. He confirmed that his boots were indeed as comfortable as before, if not more so, though they could just feel that way because he had them off for a little while.

Staring down at the boots, a thought suddenly struck him. Wait, didn’t Villy totally give me that token just so that I would upgrade my boots and he could sate his own curiosity about what would happen?

It was highly probable, and Jake chose to believe that theory fully to further support his narrative that he’d gotten scammed.

Waving his hand, Jake dispelled the stable arcane barrier around him, and right as he did, he felt the environmental mana flood in, and through his feet, he felt treasures deep beneath the ground he hadn’t been able to detect before.

However, he was far more preoccupied with something else. Raising an arm, he waved it through the air and felt as if something almost moved when he did so. As if something subtly wrapped around and affected everything. He had a good idea what it was, and he had it confirmed when he entered the same room as Arnold’s now fully charged teleportation catapult.

The entire thing seemed to be almost shivering as this weird, invisible energy moved around it. Only when he focused could he actually see it, though he vaguely detected it was always there, even when it couldn’t be directly observed.

Seeing as the only thing that had changed since before and now was Jake’s new boots, it wasn’t difficult to figure out what it was.

Concept of space... or at least what my mind interprets the visual manifestation of it to look like.

“Are you ready?” Arnold asked, looking towards Jake.

“Just wanna ask, how are you with the concept of space?” Jake asked curiously, wondering whether Arnold could detect it as well.

“I have methods to measure, analyze, and manipulate space to some extent,” the scientist answered without really answering Jake’s question.

“That got me thinking... You like to understand things logically, right? To be able to make formulas, algorithms, models, and whatnot. How does that work when dealing with the nomological?” Jake questioned.

Arnold looked at Jake for a few moments before he spoke. “Nothing is nomological; it’s just that one’s framework is too narrow to fully comprehend something. Everything can be understood and solved given enough time. I cannot guarantee my methods are always fully correct, and the end result may be a methodological approach only my mind has evolved and developed to understand, but as long as it’s logical to me, that’s enough.”

Jake felt that Arnold often surprised him by giving pretty damn good answers, and this time was no different. He wasn’t sure if Arnold’s approach was a good one or made any sense, but he did believe that for Arnold, it was probably the best way forward. As for Jake, he was totally fine, not really understanding stuff, as long as he instinctively “got” things.

“Now, please stop delaying; it’s fully charged, and the longer it stays in this state, the higher the chance of a mishap,” Arnold said, motioning for Jake to step into the opened metal sphere.

“Alright, alright,” Jake stopped talking and entered the sketchy-looking contraption. Once inside, he felt the dense space mana all around him, and the next moment, it intensified significantly. Then, he felt a pull that he knew he could easily resist, but he gave in and allowed the space energy to wrap him up, and then he was gone.

Jake’s vision became a flood wave of colors as he felt himself being torn in all directions at once. It was as if the space energy was trying to atomize him, though he was pretty sure atoms weren’t really a thing anymore. In either case, a B-grade was simply too naturally durable to find itself torn apart by what Jake was going through, and he even found time to ponder what was happening.

He truly felt how he moved through space, embraced the emotion, and sought comprehension. Unfortunately, before he could get into a proper mindset and mood, everything stabilized once more, and Jake found himself floating in the middle of space.

“Damn,” Jake muttered with disappointment. Looking around, he oriented himself and quickly spotted his target far in the distance. He also still saw Earth the other way... and Mars. Jupiter and Saturn, too. Honestly, with a bit of effort and his insane Perception, as long as nothing else was in the way, Jake was confident he could see every major celestial object in the solar system.

For now, he only had one planet he cared about as he quickly turned towards his target and, with improved boots on his feet, stepped down. He teleported forward using One Step, truly taking in how he compressed and warped through space. With the second footfall, he immersed himself even more, and as he continued to walk towards his destination, Jake truly took in every sensation.

He was almost in a half-meditative state, and as he moved, he started moving faster. Some steps were a bit shorter, some longer, but overall, the distance traveled per footfall increased steadily. Jake knew that at this point, an upgrade was only a matter of time. Even without one, he’d gotten better at using the skill.

Alas, that upgrade would not come that day, because as Jake stepped down one more time, he stopped moving as he gazed at the planet now just beneath him... and immediately he understood why Arnold’s drones had faced difficulties.

That’s one toxic atmosphere if I’ve ever seen one.

Thanks for the chapter and a happy Friday to all. May you have the weekend you deserve.

Unwillingmainer

That might piss a lot of people off if the Order and the Endless Empire end up controlling a lot of access to the World Wonder. Though, with how things are now, I don't see a lot of people beside those mysterious kidnappers making too big a fuss over it. Anyways, off to a new and exciting toxic hellhole.

Michael mann

So Venus could be a great order outpost if Jake stakes a claim. Constant mana injections for people with a decent Palate skill?

Dhia

I AM FIRST!!! FROM THE DAWN OF TIME I HAVE AWAITED THIS VERY MOMENT AND IT HAS FINALLY COME

Kt-x

Oooh!! Thank you for the chapter

Cory S.

Well that’s the perfect environment for Jake.

Dell

Tom would be proud, but there usually always one guy who’s first.

Siethrobo

Jake REALLY should upgrade his Malefic Bargain skill. Probably wouldn't even be that hard to get to sacred, it is directly related to a god and the stuff he's giving will be over the mythic cap. Might take like a year of Meditation, but what's a year to a B grade?

Dell

Doesn’t Jake have control of the whole Milky Way now?

Den

Upgraded palate is going to have the largest All You Can Eat buffet ever seen in B-grade

Tyler S.

Mushrooms mushrooms everywhere; its on the cows, on the pigs and it wants a hug

Michael mann

I mean sure from a societal pov. But a mid B grade toxic gas elemental could disagree that Venus is theirs

djthomp

Enough katars to do some silly things with them. I'd like to believe the Pantheon of Life is another easy pick-up for the upcoming alliance for the world wonder. It's nice to know that Venus really leaned into the toxicity post system.

Daryl

Jake has been known to make friends in odd places, like Jasper at the hunting grounds or the troll from the dungeon. I'm gonna bet Jake meets someone friendly on Venus. In between all the killing, of course.

D

I like this idea. What if his ally factions happened to have a planet nearby that catered to them and then earth was the mixing bowl

P A J

Looks like One Step is due for an Upgrade!

Cmndprmpt

Venus sounds like the perfect place for someone related to the Order. Especially Jake, Chosen of the Malefic Viper. I bet he's gonna get some sick toxin/poison/bane upgrades to his potions.

Alexandre8901

Seriously, Jake story is good, but the Sage mistery is just on another level. I mean keep it coming it get's me on the edge each time. Thanks for the chapter!

MrCynical

Disagree. I think Jake is going to pretty much wipe out all life or lifelike entities on Venus "practicing" his B grade abilities.

Fdrugc

He is space walking.

Nebulous

Awesome chapter, Zogarth. I really liked this one. Thank you, and have a great weekend!

Corvid

"Do you wanna eat a plaaaanet? It doesn't have to be a planeeeet" -Jake's repaired palate

General Black

Jake eat the Venus. Come on let's start the b grade with a bang. Kill the monster and eat the planet!

Ra

Yeah Venus is toxic, just like Midwestern women who are passive aggressively polite (and Britney Spears lol). You can't enter because it's too annoying to do so. 😝

Daniel

Venus, Venus, Venus!!!

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

UNKNOWN

Maybe it'll also grant perception.

IntenseSushi

Tftc any guess as to the Venus monster?

Christophe H.

How many skills upgrades on Venus ? Palate, one step, maybe scale, and all of those concerning toxic culture?

UNKNOWN

Wonder what the betterest boots will do at sacred rarity.

Bookb0y

I love that we’re getting some more exploration.

Antek Dudzik

people still forget one most important thing Jake hasn't upgraded his buff skill since class D and a lot of time has passed since he acquired this skill attuning to his Arcana Affinity because it was still in nevermore

Antek Dudzik

do you still remember that cursed sword he made during his Dungeon initiation into the order of the malefecit viper if he did something similar and then gave it to Arnold to combine with the finished version of his void katar it would be really really really scary

UNKNOWN

Listen to your fungal overlords, they're friendly I promise. :) (This is not just the fungus in my brain talking)

AntiqueCynic

What an excellent chapter heading into the weekend! Zogarth was kind this week as far as cliffhangers go.

Jeroen Turkstra

That would be a great idea to implement. I hope it happens. Though we’ll see how viable it is when Jake enters the atmosphere

DeAndrea H

“The First Sage shall return!” I m curious about the twin planets. Is it like Jake and his eternal shadow or some alternate planet in a system event? Or maybe when Jake finally visits the Pantheon of the Starcross Twins? Who knows! When Jake figured out the last clue, I wasn’t like “ooh… I almost guessed it.” It was more like “…I guess that makes sense but I have no idea how he got there.”

UNKNOWN

Sadly I don't think Jake is feeling that peckish. Though it would be expected for Malefic's Chosen to casually nibble on a planet or three-thousand.

Kyle

I don’t think he will try and influence it with primeval energy yet but I think that would be his end goal.

Nathan Holliday

Who wants to bet Jake finds an A-grade snake monster!

Kyle

Some form of planetary toxic elemental

Jason Smith

Oooh planet full of toxic air to breathe, time for Palate to shine?

Jarrett Glass

Gotta be a plant monster. Perhaps some kind of fly trap.

Alex McCracken

The Twin Planets gotta be something with the World Wonder. Its already shown alternate timelines. Who knows what else it could do. This could be the First Sage's World Wonder

Antek Dudzik

I was thinking more about a linear improvement of buff skills consisting of a 100% plus to all stats in the most powerful state, but a good idea in this way he will be able to suffer indefinitely

Nathan Holliday

His boosting skill is about the highest level it can be. Not to say there aren’t improvements he can make to it but he has reached the limit of how much he will be able to handle boosting his body. Because of how boosting skills work boosting stats by a percentage of 60% is probably already the maximum he will ever be capable of boosting. The only way I can see an improvement is for Jake to get better at controlling his arcane affinity which he consistently does already. It naturally becomes more powerful alongside him especially as he improves his own control and resistance to his affinity. Anyway that’s why I don’t see a way to upgrade the skill. The skill is already pretty busted with its only limitation how much Jake can handle using it either to push himself to the absolute limit or endure running full throttle for an extended period of time.

Nathan Holliday

Doesn’t he still have a desolation core in there?

Meruem92

Nevermore was c grade

Nathan Holliday

Pantheon of life alliance would be great given his connections. Dina can finally visit earth! The Endless Empire through Vespy. The Vampire race. Go ahead and make a full alliance with the risen through Casper. Maybe Villy can get Aeon and Stormild’s followers to join in this alliance through the Sword Saint and Silphie. He’s already got a good relationship with the united tribes so go ahead and invite them too. I’m sure convincing Valdimar to side with Jake will be a breeze for either Carmen or Villy. Honestly aside from the holy church and automaton Jake on Jake a path to make friends with the entire multiverse so just team up with everyone. I think it is certain this world wonder has to do with primal beings so who better to take control than the Primal Hunter. Who will end up being the only being in the multiverse capable of putting down some of the creature reintroduced to the multiverse through these events.

Xander

TFTC :) In before Mondays reveal of a giant basilisk with mushroom minions or giant mushroom with basilisk minions, I can't decide. Did I miss something? I dont recall Jake telling Villy about the messages and in Nevermore I recall him saying he wasnt going to and being circumspect about hinting to Villy he might meet the sage. I have awful memory so maybe I missed it though. Have a great weekend all :) Suggested edits: "currently in *lack* of a temporary melee weapon" should be "need" "entrance *notes* to the true World Wonder" pretty sure this should be "nodes"

Antek Dudzik

I understand your point, but pay attention to the rarity of our favorite Hunter's buffing ability, it itself speaks volumes about how powerful it is. In my opinion, to improve his buffing ability, Jake must die using it (something like a mortal coliseum) or fight SS again. I don't see any other reason for such a powerful improvement(100%). But on the other hand, my previous example doesn't have to refer to the improvement that now has to happen, for example, instead of from +60% to +70%, only and exclusively because his body has adapted accordingly, as with Arcana Power Shot, or simply something to finally improve this ability, e.g. covering the weapon and body with spikes/optics that are barely stable (a thin layer of stability and an army of destrucion inside), which absorb mana from the environment to strengthen themselves and when they are ordered or are destroyed, they explode.

Feed me, Seymore!

Nathan Holliday

I don’t think they will go to sacred but the other route. Whatever the alternative to sacred is for something not touching the divine. I know they used to be Villy’s boots but this was long before he became a god and their records don’t seem steeped in the divine but the primal. I am ready to see what the non divine version is though.

Episode 19

One small step for man, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR JAKE Tyftc

ABTelford

Hahaha! That would be hilarious!

ABTelford

Great chapter! I love Arnold - he’s so different from Jake and yet the two get along because they old understand each other. 😀

Lemonsqueezy

Could also have something to do with Earth and Venus as the two planets are often referenced as twins. The are similar in mass and size.

Jeroen Turkstra

My guesses for what we’ll find on this planet: Elementals Toxic plants Smol cute race that has no place in such a harsh environment. Big boss elemental Some annoying race that gets Jake’s extinction drive going.

Saleh Alhasan

Man I have a theory, what if jake was already a god before and the student of the first Sage, and it was his boots all along , and because he is the Primal Hunter who only crave fighting strong opponents, when he reached the apex as the strongest god he got bored and asked Eversmile to use his Transcendent to remove him and got incarnated as a g grade human just to experience it all again but hard mode or something lol

Josie

I also thought of Shadow Jake, he hasn't received an upgrade since the Snappy fight and it'd be cool if he got back more consciousness. That's probably not the answer to this riddle, but it's still fun

Josie

In the far off future I hope Jake can master Origin energy and have enough Perception to the extent that he can peer into the Origin of any object without changing the object itself. Just to take a looksie He had a vision of the 100 eggs of the Endless Empire, so it's not inconceivable he can do this to items Maybe even combine it with his Path skill before godhood so he can fully experience the past?

atome 4 000

Twinn worlds canrefer to a simulated world.

UNKNOWN

I see what you mean. But that would mean the First Sage has an idea of what the system event will be.

UNKNOWN

Been awhile since we had a good genocide (in Primal Hunter).

Ben Cox

A totally reasonable and understandable idea, somehow the first sage knowing everything just makes perfect sense. Why would a C-Grade who can kill void gods and create skills that literally everyone bar none use to this day be bound by petty things like "the future" or "the system"

Arieh Sochaczevski

Thanks for the chapter! Not a hard rule, but where you used “normality” I’d suggest “normalcy”. Either is potentially correct, but the latter fits better, imnsho.

DeAndrea H

Interesting but feels a bit like “It was all a dream…” for my taste

DeAndrea H

I do feel like at every grade he finds something that is too hard to fight as his current level but he plans to return. The wyvern, the moon monster, the sim of snappy.

Bookreader97

Like the theory. Only thing that doesn’t make sense is how he ended up in the new universe prior to it being integrated

Phoenixdrop

Hm well this trip should be pretty good for his palate can’t wait to see what those acid rains have cooked up in terms of poison

Colton Horton

Huh, in mythology, Artemis is also a twin to Apollo. Kind of a long shot, but there could also be something there....

LinkJTO

Personally I’m leaning towards something to do with Eternal Shadow, maybe Sim Jake’s regaining sapience or something.

Fyrtue

I think whenever we do see an upgrade to his boosting skill it will be mostly along the lines of refined control. If you read the last Valdemar fight after Jake "awakens" he makes it a point that he's moving the energy within him with much more ease and proficiency as if he did it poorly outside of that state. Certainly he didn't have access to actual skills at the time but I could see a world where he gets an upgrade for Arcane Awakening while in that state.

Josie

It's okay, Villy, you have a way to form an alliance with Valhal for this world wonder. Just tell Valdemar he can have custody of Jake every other weekend and Christmas

Josie

and honestly? Jake could probably make a deal with the United Tribes in exchange for reviving a long lost species. Is that transactional? Hell yeah, but they could let him select a species he likes from a list 🤷‍♀️

Nathaniel France

Hmm if we’re talking making allies, and we have a specific very strong dragon lady as part of the dragonflights, I think it would be logical if he did his dragon creation project sooner rather than later.

Saleh Alhasan

Maybe its the same thing when the system leak into a new universe before getting integrated fully and reach the threshold, like earth known about some mythical beings and some gods as myths before the integration like dragons and demons , and jake getting born before the integration by 20ish years or something is pretty close not to mention that everyone dying before the integration became undead , yes a day or 2 before the integration but it has some authority before integration yes? So squeezing jake 20 years or so before not impossible but maybe I'm just blabbering lol its just a fun theory

Perren D'Wolff

For some reason I am thinking that the first sage is the exalted prima.

MarineDebris

A lot when the Prima event is 110 days away.

MarineDebris

Yeaaa... I can see the Order abusing that privilege. Would prolly wanna keep slaves there, immersed in poison, in order to gain Palate. Or to use in experiments with the toxic atmosphere. At least until Jake stomps a bunch of slave owners/handlers.

Shandlar

No way he'd rush it that much. Jasper took a couple years and Vespa was even longer to get the ritual circle right. He'd almost certainly want to infuse the heart into a dragon egg instead of trying to do anything from complete scratch, too. That's gonna be complicated to pull off no matter how friendly many flights are with the Order. To do it in 110 days minus the Venus trip? Not a chance.

Rachel Fisher

Elijah is so frustrating. So not only has he not bathed properly, not tended to his hair, beard, clothes and feet; he's too chicken to go see Sadie after calling her name and thinking about her a bazillion times. NO. Let's kill the warlord who hasn't done anything in over 10 years and you know nothing about so Sadie can get mad and hate you forever for being a murderer and circumventing the laws.

Josie

Yeah, Elijah's a total nincompoop

Josie

Maybe after the Exalted stuff Jake could have Arnold fling him deeper into space over and over again in different directions. He'd get to learn space concept and have a looksie around the solar system while Arnold gets to improve his slingshot. Win win

Amathew2

Jake’s probably gonna end up getting high on all the toxins and not want to leave.

Asher Mack

Who the fuck is Elijah?

Alexis Cassaigne

I know him as one of the mentors of Kai in Elydes. I don't know if it's this one though, it doesn't match at all even a comment that would be a mashup of comments for several fics.

Clint

Oh. I like that. It wouldn’t be out of line for the Prima event to continue rewarding candidates with simulated worlds to experience, and I could see First Sage crashing that party…

tigerfishie

Tyftc! I’m so grateful that we aren’t held by our throats over a cliff today, very much appreciated.

Josie

I've got no idea either, Asher. No idea

Clint

Perhaps a new version of the Wyvern of the Desolates? Like a toxic creature that reached B grade and wiped out everything else on the planet. Probably a mushroom creature, of course. We’ve been told that their spores can devastate ecosystems post-system.

Josie

What do you mean space magic *unfortunately* requires consent? 😂😭

Josie

First of all, since when did space magic need a permission slip to yeet? Yeeting is how space magic brings home the space-bacon to its space-conceptual home! Why would it need permission to do this?

Josie

Second, when did Jake become okay with living creatures being experimented on against their will? It seems that's him tip toeing closer to being okay with slavery ... though honestly, I wouldn't be against some character development in his mindset there. Bc he's spent hundreds of years in the System, while only a couple decades with Earth's morality from pre-system. It's kinda strange to never ever even consider any flexibility with this

Stephen

Toxic you say? Well. Let's see if we can start to understand the concept of poison.

Fylbrom

My bet is on a spider variant that's gonna get on Jake's bad side. That or maybe frogs? I could see either being friendly to my imagination machine :) If there is a cute race, it has to be the OP shy slime trope. Toxic slime that wants to be friendly cos everything else wants to eat it or something. Haha.

John Durrett

System Fuckery. You may ride this ride provided you accept that you may not arrive at your destination in one piece.

Josie

Ah maybe Arnold built in a liability waiver

Daryl

One Step for Jake, Thousand Miles for Jake

Ty Cooper

I get one step is amazing but is Jake just letting Arnold do whatever and have fun with it or does he not care he owns a rocketship that fits in a pocket/spacial storage? I would imagine that atomaton ship would get through that whole galaxy in seconds. Is Jake not strong enough yet to just hop around the galaxy? I know there are some a-grades around and whatever and a person trying to chosennap him. Not complaining and I love this and where it is going, plus find Arnold hilarious and his intentions are great. Just always curious about it. I know Arnold is studying it, but wouldn't the guy want to fly around in it a bit with Jake? Tftc.

Ty Cooper

Didn't the Monarch of Blood teleport Carmen and the Holy Church around without consent?

Josie

it is fun! small issue - Immortal Mind works even with Eversmile's Transcendence, so I think First Sage woulda still remembered Jake when they met again during Path

Kris Piskorski

I bet one primordial dragon can make an egg if need be

Josie

hmm.. if he keeps trading Lesser Origin bits and bobs, he may be able to do it quickly since the System has to realize the nerf its doing here

psy

Forgotten in the inventory like so much other stuff

Rewdan

Monday is a very long way off 😟

Xerecs

Last I remember Arnold had Jake's ship I dont recall ever reading that he gave it back.

Josie

and I wonder what it's like for his sphere being out there in space. maybe that'd be a good place for Jake to relax the limits of his sphere a bit and study the concepts out there, without all the sensory overload that comes with being on a planet?

Random58

It could be a transcendent skill maybe?

Bmax

Great theory, that’s how he is not afraid of the primordials and can withstand them. Also how villy and him get a long so well. Maybe they were students of the first sage together

Luke Scheffe

Living creatures resist manipulation. That’s fine if you’re teleporting hostile, because you don’t care if they leave a limb behind. If you’re testing a method for teleporting friendlies, it’s important to know if your test subjects are damaged because they resist or because your set up is flawed.

Luke Scheffe

The quickest answer for twin worlds is the world wonder duplicating stuff again. The other option I see is perhaps something related to the mystery faction. Mainly because villy doesn’t have any particular ideas, so it’s not likely to be a well known phenomenon.

Saleh Alhasan

Maybe he chose not to tell him , or jake asked him not to?

Phil Ritter

I mean from how it sounds like it was more or less permanently gifted to Arnold. What I don’t understand is why they didn’t use it during the Prima Event. Right now it doesn’t matter how effective they work and Jake can just play with Arnold since they are waiting anyway but back during the Prima Event they were racing against time and Orange Fuckboy and nobody had the idea to use if for a time until the teleporter was ready. Seems kinda wasted if it’s only use it a bit of research seeing as now that everyone is B-Grade it was never used during it’s intended Grade

Saleh Alhasan

Ya and I think the aura resistance was just a side effect of this , and again it was mentioned by Caleb in the early books that he didn’t get pressured by Umbra because to him Jake has more intense pressure that he had to live with, same with Villy and jake flaring there aura against Meira when he just came to the Order " aura that wants to devour " or something similarwas mentionedi dont remember, and it was cemented it for me when he had the aura duel in Nevermore while protecting Artemis at the same time against Valdemar that if my theory is true he used to surpass them by too much its not even funny .

Biggy smalls

If anything I’m shocked Arnold doesn’t have working prototype ships yet? He’s had that thing since before Nevermore. It didn’t seem to take him that long to recreate golems? Maybe Zog forgets about these elements sometimes? Lots to keep track of.

Biggy smalls

Idk, like Arnold he’ll want to be close enough to earth to get those juicy earth records. Can he eat the planet and park it next to earth?

Kuniku778

This might actually be AI, as from what im looking up seems to be from the originals, a side series to 'the vampire diaries'. With random non context applicable pieces to fill out the paragraph.

Biggy smalls

Seems Jake is okay with that if there’s a path reason for it. This is basically the collateral damage of Arnold’s path. He’s not okay if you’re punching down for no reason like Yrel. Or if you punch down and the person you hit is somebody he cares about.

Samuel Jones

I wonder what happens if Jake uses his Jake Juice on an entire celestial object?

Josie

hmm.. if Jake can travel farther the better he increases his understanding of space, then so can his arrows... and with better understanding of the concepts of time AND space, his archery skills *cough Event Horizon cough* is going to get extra scary real quick 🏹 now that I think about it, I kinda want Jake to double check with Aeon if time travel is actually "impossible"

Bushninja

Jake is about to claim Venus and make it his new toxin garden

Kaladin

I have a theory that the upgrade tokens are derived from future Jake juice and the system taking, learning, and either syphoning or replicating his ability to enhance an object and "restore it to it's prime". The system may do time shenanigans to send the items into the past. I also think his next upgrade of the boots will be with his primal energy.

Josie

And if Jake changes the planetary core of Venus to a pylon and owns it, would that count as the twin planets being able to "breathe" ? 🤔

Carl Never

I would imagine a twin to be more identical

Josh Strange

But Venus has been called Earth's twin, because they're remarkably similar. Venus just hit a run away global warming effect that turned it acidic asf. Before that, it was closer to Earth than Mars ever was. It still has an atmosphere, whereas Mars lost its atmosphere millions of years ago.

Spicyice101

Or eat it, he ate a half a planetary core in C grade, maybe he can eat half a planet in B? 🤔

DeAndrea H

Elijah and Sadie are main characters in the Path of Dragons series. Also on Patreon so probably responded to the wrong notification.

CT

You might have responded to the wrong link or some deep-cut nobody(at least in the comments) understand.

Coramoor

Rocket ships would be fundamentally slower than what it seems like Arnold is trying to accomplish which is basically building his own teleportation framework

Tamathon

What kind of toxic space mushroom will Venus have?! I kinda hope he makes a new gardener friend for his future space lab.. or does something that helps him forge another alliance for the event coming up:)

Sable

Ive been reading the comments but haven't heard the best thing yet. Why hasn't he turned one step into a perception based ability yet? At B grade he should be able to somewhat force it with the concepts and get it to act like a visual stepping stone right?

Comeback Kid

I may be misremembering, but I thought there was a chapter where jake made a comment about that ship and other stuff being torn into pieces.

Comeback Kid

He addressed his sphere in space, when Jake went to visit Arnold right after his upgrade.

Comeback Kid

Villy would remember him, because Villy can't forget.

Azayrian105

Honestly what has shocked me is how hasn’t he practically taken over the identify skill. It is a core skill based on perception and yet he hasn’t done anything with it.

Azayrian105

You know saying that the first place Jake visited was the Gate of Enlightenment meaning that there will be more of these types of features. I wonder what Jake might find and Zogsrth might cliffhanger us with.

Little Silly

A non cliffhanger is so relaxing before bed. tyftc

ZanSanCho

That he did. Space is actually full of stuff... Just not material stuff. It's full of concepts, which his sphere also detects and he said there was little difference for hus sphere between being in space vs not in space.

Xander

One step is a perception based ability already. You can step to anywhere he can "see" and since Jakes sphere counts he can go in any direction. One step should just be forwards but hes hacked it already so no real need to change it. Besides changing a skill with an established upgrade path can fuck it entirely and Jake likes one step too much to risk that.

austin kutz

If that's the case and the system has records related to Venus being the Earth's twin, Venus may be enhanced greatly by Earth's records

definitelynotbrjenness

is eternal hunger creepy daddy's from just after integration sword or was it just the weapons from vampire treasure hunt combined with curse,

RonGAR

Time to 'Eat the World' w/ Pallet. Great way to test it out.

Justin

I’m imagining end game Jake able to perceive his prey from galaxies away/ perhaps even into another gods realm and pierce the void. Simply building up more and more hunting momentum and a lot power shot of the ages. Fire. 1 shot, 1 kill anyone and anything. Or close to it.

Jeroen Turkstra

Because one step has a solid pre defined upgrade path that does not include perception based abilities. Meaning he’ll make it harder for himself to upgrade later on because he deviated so much from the set path.

Jeroen Turkstra

@Kaladin. I don’t think that’s true but I do guess you’re in the right direction. With Jake juice being able to do something so similar to what an upgrade token is able to do. Maybe the two are somehow related.

Clint

What are the odds that the First Sage is the Exalted Prima? It feels almost like the revelation that the Battle Master was secretly the War Master, in Nevermore. Prima means first and ‘sage’ is definitely an exalted title… And it would neatly solve several open questions: - Why is the First Sage suddenly forbidden knowledge? (Answer: Because the System is recycling him for a major Event and doesn’t want people using previous knowledge of him to gain an unfair advantage.) - How is the long-dead First Sage suddenly aware of things going on in the new Universe? And how is he interacting with System-given loot and upgrades?? (Answer: Because he’s an NPC Bound God tied to the new World Wonder, not the original man who died a trillion years ago.)

Sable

It's not anywhere he can see because the distance he moves doesn't scale with perception

Jeroen Turkstra

I like this theory. Though it would be even funnier if he was an actual revived first sage at C tier. But bc he’s so capable he can defend it within his domain.

Takoda Heitz

The Nine Hells are probably another contender for a Malefic/Primal Ally

islandcastle11

Honestly I’d rather it be a surprise. If Jake were to go around cherry picking origins the mystery wouldn’t be there anymore for the reader. The vision with the eggs was a perfect lore drop that nobody saw coming

Nathaniel France

Good point, I somehow totally mis-remebered the timeframe!

Shandlar

Exactly. Ships at Arnold's level are weak compared to himself and Jake. Ships are for lots of weaklings to use to explore with. Teleportation is for the elite to travel fast because they are the ship. They dont need weapons or shielding or engines

Nexas Aurelias

Wait Twin planets breathe? Could the World Wonder be a path to potential alternate realities? Like what we saw with Sim Jake way back when? Twin worlds could mean when Jake tskes over the world wonder and has access to this alternate world. Cant waitnto learn more

Numbzy

Sim Jake was a part of the world wonder, really the first event of it. So I could 100% see it being an alternative reality type of wonder.

Josie

oh my lawd there's a wiki

Tristin S Alderson

I caught up on Friday from chapter 1229 and have to say even with the "filler" chapters it is worth every penny

Ty Cooper

Anyone feel he doesn't use it because of Vespy?

Peter Smith

It just occurred to me. The Jake Affinity is about Stability and Destruction, and its definitely affected by his immortal bloodline... Space is both the most and least stable element of existence, A horizon is when life and space meet since ahorizon is when a living being seeks the end of their sense of sight... An event hoaizon is when the living can no longer see further into an entity of extremely stable space so stable it destroys all that enters to continue reinforcing its stability... I think Primeval energy is simply the most stable form of condensed energy. And since all energies have both an origin and a concept, that means jake is doing his primeval alchemy wrong, if he purifies an herb or metal to its most fundamental form, and then infuse the essence of the plant into his Primeval energy, then the alchemy is simply mixing the Primal essence into a potion. The foundation is his energy not the plants, which is why he needed access to his gate, how can you purify a concept from a plant if you cant sense what concepts are already there.

Lynderyn

First Sage is forbidden knowledge because he is who takes people to godhood.

Jeroen Turkstra

A nice elaborate theory. I’m looking forward to seeing if you’re right

Greg Alverson

Then why are other gods also forbidden from knowing about him including other primordials

Greg Alverson

I feel like Jake is still missing an opportunity to get some gear at the order, even if he has the new skill he still needs some stats. He even said his mental stats were not getting the full amount because it was used up by physical. Why not get gear that gives perception so it at least gets the full amount before the skill applies to the physical ones

Sylas Varga

I believe he did address this before, but getting gear that completely filled his possible stats is incredibly hard and a pain in the ass, let alone getting new gear as he grows, but he's also not too upset with his current spread either. And he'd rather have some stats filling up his possible gained stats instead of none. Unless I misinterpreted what you were saying

Greg Alverson

So the way the skill was explained if he can get a max of 20% bonus to his total accumulated stats and also a max of 20% to any one stat is alwaus favors the physical first. So it will give 20% to strength, agility, toughness and stamina i think. Then is that number is only say a total of 11% of the total accumulated across all the stats it takes that 9% left and splits it evenly to wisdom, intelligence and perception. This means percep is nor getting as high of a boost as it could. If he had gear that capped out his perception boost or even just had a decent number of perception then the skill would only be able to add the remainder of whatever the 20% accumulated minus the number in perception. It would still focus on physical first but it might mean hos boost was 20% all physical 15% perception counting the gear and 5% each int and wis. It is a way to focus more of the bonus into perception before it gets split to other mental stats by presetting it with gear, or using up some of the total with gear so the skill cant distribute it to its default

Parker Bond

Twin worlds? Intriguing!

Chloe

Knew it. Vesperia is clutch. Add in some Artemis follower buffs, and a green flying half elemental, prone to "Ree" ... and that would be a superb alliance. Tyftc

Matt

I think he’s misusing nomological here. The way it’s being used seems to imply the author thinks it means the opposite of what it does.

Rozemyne‘s Lessy

He did say for him as chosen it would be easy to get equipment him capping out but that wouldn’t feel earned so he didn’t do it

Caramellato

More likely suck in its surface and atmospheric energy, at most. If I remember right, Villy was [A] grade when he sucked all the energies and concepts from a planet, leaving it desolate. Or as Villy might tease: At most you can ‘suck off’ the planet, but you won’t get the job done *winks in lizard*

Gh0st-Hunt3r

At one point Jake says he no longer benefits from Stats from gear but like you said The Primal Hunters Spirit of man doesnt say he NO LONGER benefits it says - While not wearing adequate equipment that provides you with all the stats your soul can bear, you automatically make up the difference at the cost of slightly increased passive energy consumption, prioritizing physical stats. so really ha still can benefit from stats from gear he just doesn't have to if he had stats from gear his skill wouldn't have to make up for it.

Mufaro Jayaguru

I feel like it’s got something to do with his divine realm and soul space. it’s heavily inferred that the two are linked somehow so i reckon becoming a god has something to do with them coming alive so to speak
