As Jake stared down at the toxic atmosphere, he realized that the “treasure” his Sense of the Malefic Viper had picked up from across space wasn’t any treasure at all. Instead, it was this very atmosphere that had reached such a high level of toxicity that it gave a huge response.

Curious, Jake started floating towards it, as he surprisingly felt Villy reach out, something he very rarely did, especially not in situations like these.

“What’s up?” Jake asked, assuming that the snake god had something to say about the upcoming system event or something like that.

“That’s a question I’m also asking right now,” the Malefic Viper said, sounding quite curious. “Why is something like this here?”

“Venus? Pretty sure the planet has been there all along. As for why it’s got a toxic atmosphere, I reckon it’s related to Venus being a very nasty place even before the system. Definitely not a candidate for colonization,” Jake answered. He remembered reading about Venus on the internet during a late-night binge of random facts, and he recalled that the atmosphere was filled with gases, making it very dense and the planet itself incredibly hot.

“Yeah, those things are all very true, except for one minor detail... that’s not a planet. Not anymore,” Villy said, leaving little room for argument.

“Not a planet?” Jake frowned, tilting his head. “It very much still looks like one.”

“Oh, it does have the appearance of one, and unless observed up close, will pass as one. However, it’s most certainly not,” the Viper said. “Instead, it’s something you’ve encountered before. Places like these have many names, but I believe the most common one you know them as is minor worlds or dimensions.”

“Like what Yalsten was?” Jake asked with confusion.

“Precisely like what Yalsten was,” the Viper answered, sounding annoyingly proud that Jake remembered.

Jake frowned even more at that as he inspected the toxic atmosphere more closely. “What exactly does that mean?”

“I don’t know,” Villy said casually. “These things can appear entirely randomly throughout the multiverse with no rhyme or reason, and there is little one can do to find out what’s inside without actually entering. Even if I were there in person, I wouldn’t be able to see anything amiss unless right up close. Which does make me curious: what do you detect with your Bloodline-empowered sense?”

“Just a dense wall of never-ending toxic energy,” Jake shook his head. He had already released a Pulse of Perception, but all he saw was pure energy that flooded his mind. Perhaps, given enough time, he could filter it and look to see if there was anything odd about the place, but he doubted it would feel weird, given Villy’s explanation.

“Makes sense,” the Viper said. “It may also look like a planet to you, despite not being one. Now, it’s more of an entrance than anything else, perfectly disguised as a planet. That’s how minor worlds like these are constantly discovered throughout the multiverse, even in the oldest of universes. They are so hidden that one must practically stumble upon them. Which does make them great places to hide away, especially if you destroy their entrance. Like what happened with Yalsten.”

“What happens if one blows up Venus?” Jake asked.

“It explodes,” the snake god cheekily answered. “But in all seriousness, it disappears, leaving a spatial fracture leading into the minor world. If this fracture is then also removed, the minor world becomes entirely sealed off unless someone on the inside can find a way to re-establish a connection to stable space. Finding the minor world again from the outside is multiversally considered impossible, though I won’t go as far as to say someone like the Wyrmgod wouldn’t be able to do it if he really tried. Oh, and Eversmile, if he has a powerful enough karmic bond to latch onto.”

Hearing that answer, Jake immediately had another thought. “Is that also how that unknown faction that likes to ambush people in the void and get eaten by Oras hides itself?”

“Definitely a part of their strategy to stay undetected, though these minor worlds aren’t perfect hiding places, especially not for gods. The reason why is a bit complicated, but it pretty much boils down to every god’s Divine Realm being a minor world of its own, making the two come into conflict,” the Viper briefly explained. “Anyway, enough about that. Back to why this being here is odd in the first place. While there are many minor worlds in the multiverse, and while there’s plenty of precedent for planets being turned into ones during integrations, I do find it highly peculiar that one so close to your homeworld became one.”

“I definitely agree it’s quite a coincidence,” Jake said. “Though it does leave the question: is this a good or a bad thing?”

“Depends, but I’ll lean towards good, but again, the only way to find out is to see what’s inside,” Villy answered. “As for it being a coincidence, I doubt it’s one. A better explanation would be the high density of Records on your planet. During the Tutorial, as your universe was being transformed, your planet, and subsequently surrounding celestial objects, benefited from all its inhabitants, Tutorial-attendees naturally included. Your planet’s Tutorials were quite a show with many outstanding individuals. It was already weird that your planet had a Wood Meteor hit your moon and create a B-grade, and that so many powerful items granted by the system spawned there, so this really doesn’t strike me as out of expectations.”

Jake slowly nodded, not having really questioned all things, but now that he considered it, the Viper did have a point. Jake had been to quite a few planets during the Prima Guardian event, and when it came to native monsters and whatnot, Earth was definitely at the top.

“Thanks for the explanation, and I guess it does leave one final, all-important question... should I go in?”

“Duh, of course you should,” the Viper said without any doubt. “Granted, it may be risky, but I trust your survival instincts to pull you out if you can’t successfully get in there. There is also a chance you could get trapped inside, which is just another reason now is the best time to check the place out. Even if you do get stuck, the system event will pull you out.”

“That is a very good point,” Jake said with a small smile. “Anything else I should look out for?”

“If the minor world has any peculiar traits. Like with Yalsten, these minor worlds may carry certain traits or aspects, making them either beneficial or detrimental places to be. Perhaps you gain extra experience within, or maybe your lifespan is consumed twice as fast. There’s really no way to know unless inside. Though if I had to guess, I would say that if it does have a trait, it’s related to the toxic atmosphere in some way. Maybe it’s a paradise for growing toxic herbs or creatures, or for gathering an extreme amount of certain natural treasures. These can even be unique items that can only be found in the minor world and nowhere else throughout the multiverse.”

“Yeah, alright, I’ll definitely check the place out,” Jake nodded, slowly floating even closer to the toxic atmosphere. He tried to reach out with his energy, but found it instantly dissolved, making him move even closer.

Putting his hand inside, he felt his hand sizzle, making him pull it out again, only to see his skin had turned slightly red. Seeing this, Jake did have one more question.

“How exactly do I enter?”

Having not encountered a minor world before, and having only heard about the one Casper had constructed using the World Core of Yalsten, Jake assumed he would just have to touch the atmosphere to enter or something like that. Evidently, that wasn’t the case.

“Fly into it until you pass through. That’s how these tend to work. It’s effectively a spatial tunnel leading you into the minor world. Do be warned, though, from your brief interaction with the toxic energies, it isn’t exactly a pleasant way to enter. Or maybe it is for you, but it definitely wouldn’t be for most people,” the Viper said jokingly.

“I guess there’s nothing else to do but enter,” Jake shrugged.

“Nope, so have fun, and if the place turns out to be filled with A-grades, better run quickly,” Villy said, Jake not sure if he was joking with that one, and seeing as the Viper cut the connection immediately, he clearly wasn’t going to elaborate.

Jake shook his head and looked into the toxic atmosphere, sighing. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

Unfolding his wings, Jake also covered his entire body in scales and a faint barrier of stable arcane mana before he shot straight into the toxic barrier covering Venus. Immediately, he felt the hostility of the environment as it sought to corrode and destroy him in both body and soul.

It was an incredibly powerful toxin that would be dangerous to most B-grades, and Jake doubted C-grades could even survive a few seconds within. Jake himself wasn’t confident he could have safely passed through the barrier before he evolved to B-grade either, and he could definitely understand why Arnold had a hard time figuring out what was going on with Venus.

Another thing he understood was why Villy said that, while others definitely wouldn’t enjoy passing through this toxic storm of destruction, Jake actually found it surprisingly pleasant.

His small arcane barrier was immediately destroyed, allowing the energy to strike his scales and be absorbed by them. Even his scales were overwhelmed, allowing some of the energy to invade his body, at which point it encountered Palate of the Malefic Viper.

With Palate, Jake rapidly consumed much of the toxic energy, gradually granting him some level of understanding regarding the nature of the barrier he was passing through. At the same time, it also helped make him more resistant to it, easing the journey further.

Also, while Jake couldn’t outright confirm it, he felt that the environment should have been more dangerous than it actually was. This made him believe that Primal Spirit of Man’s effect of allowing him to better adapt to environments was a lot more potent than he’d first thought.

Continuing his flight, Jake soon realized that this spatial tunnel was a lot longer than he’d initially guessed it would be. He flew at high speed for more than four hours without any end in sight, eventually switching to purposefully inhaling and taking in some of the barrier’s energy for Palate to consume.

He’d long flown further than the entire diameter of Venus, at least if one went by the "fake" celestial object floating around the solar system. During his entire flight, all he saw was dense, multi-colored toxic gas that, even after all these hours, he couldn’t entirely recognize the full properties of. Jake recognized many of them, but there was just so much going on that it was overwhelming, and the conceptual level of these toxins surpassed anything Jake had ever worked with before. Outside of when he got things directly related to the Malefic Viper, of course.

Finally, after seven full hours of high-speed flight, Jake detected the tunnel changing ahead. Through his sphere, he felt the density of the toxic domain decrease, which he took as a sign of some kind of opening, only making him speed up further. Shortly, he encountered the last barrier, and with one final push, Jake was free of the toxic domain and finally entered the true world hidden within what was once Venus.

The first thing Jake noted was that while the toxic atmosphere had become less dangerous, this was still not a place where any regular being could possibly live. One thing that also surprised him was the temperature.

Jake had fully expected the place to be absolutely scorching, perhaps because he still mentally associated it with Venus, which was known for being quite hot, but instead, it was surprisingly chilly. Not extremely cold, but definitely below freezing. It wasn’t like the temperature had much bearing, though, considering everything else.

Using his sphere, Jake scoured the area and confirmed there was nothing solid anywhere nearby. Looking back, Jake was also surprised when he saw the barrier. It was completely vertical, like a wall extending endlessly upwards and down. When outside of Venus, he could at least detect some curvature, but inside, there was not even a fraction of a degree, making him wonder if this minor world was even spherical.

Seeing as Jake had no direction, he just glanced around before picking somewhere random to fly. He kept his senses peeled, continually looking for any monsters or other living creatures, but even after flying for a solid fifteen minutes, nothing. Only at the thirty-minute mark did something happen.

In the distance, something physical entered his Pulse’s range. Speeding up with a bit of excitement, Jake rapidly got closer to the object, all the while getting more and more familiar with his environment. The toxic fumes filling the air obscured his vision heavily, but the more time he spent in it, the better he got at filtering it out, increasing his range of perception by the minute.

Closing in on the physical object further, he confirmed it was more than just some floating rock. Instead, he felt an entire island, or perhaps a continent, based on how big it turned out to be.

Just then, he detected something even more interesting:

Movement.

Big movements.

In the distance was an absolutely massive creature moving about on what he could now confidently call a giant continent floating in the middle of this minor world. Speeding up even further, and coupled with his increased familiarity with the environment, Jake’s eyes adapted enough to soon lay eyes on the monster.

What he saw was a creature that looked to be made out of water, leaves, plant matter, and pure toxic sludge. It stood on two giant, stumpy legs and had two equally stumpy arms that separated into dozens of vines at their ends. Jake estimated it to be at least fourteen or fifteen kilometers tall, truly taking its size into the realm of what Jake would call ridiculous. Just each of those vines that swung around were thick enough to crush entire city blocks. Using Identify, Jake confirmed this monster wasn’t weak either.

[Elder Boglord Titan – lvl 411]

The lake it was standing in was naturally even more massive, practically an ocean in its own right. He wasn’t so sure the lake was made of water, though. His Sense of the Malefic Viper gave off a strong response, making it clear that taking a bath was not recommended unless one had sufficient poison resistance.

This monster was surprisingly fast, sliding through the water as it swung its vines from its arms, with more randomly shooting out elsewhere on its body here and there to try to swat away its attackers.

Because yes, it appeared that Jake had stumbled across quite a scene. Around the huge Boglord were five small figures flying around, keeping mostly together while trying to outmaneuver the far larger monster. All five looked to be around four meters tall, making them big by humanoid standards but absolutely tiny compared to their massive opponent.

These five attackers moved like a coordinated squad, working together to avoid being caught out, as they were individually far weaker than their opponent. Observing these creatures, Jake wasn’t quite sure how to classify them. They all looked like vaguely humanoid frogs, with three of them being big and bulky, and two of them being slim.

The three bulky ones had shell-like growths covering their bodies, while the two slender ones wore clothes made of plants, indicating some level of civilization. The bulky ones also had simplistic clubs that they repeatedly used to block or attack the Boglord, while the two slender ones seemed to be casters of some kind.

Shooting an Identify on one of the bulky frog monsters, Jake confirmed two things quickly. The first was that these were indeed creatures Jake had never heard of or read about. Which made sense, considering the second fact:

[Venusian Warrior – lvl 388]

It turned out that while it was still perfectly possible that men were indeed from Mars, women were not from Venus. Frogs were. Then again, it was entirely possible these were all female frogs.

Jake would have to further investigate if any of them survived their encounter with the Boglord, because while they were working pretty well together, they were definitely not winning.

There is no schedule... Tho this was the furthest off I remember, so maybe it's a bonus. A girl can dream at least

Numbzy

Using his sphere, Jake scoured the area "and confirmed there was nothing solid anywhere nearby." Huh? Nothing dangerous or maybe nothing living nearby. It sounds like there is plenty of solids around.

Get well soon and take a day off if you need

Brett Peterson

Thanks for the eaely chapter! I think if Zogarth ever gets tired or wants to April Fools, he'll just have Jake discover something like this, wander in, and die immediately. Villy will say, well dangit, and Artemis will go hunting down whatever killed Jake. And that'll be the end of the story.

Fyrtue

Early chapter. Nice.

TFTC :) Welcome back for the super early morning chapter :) Ok who had boglords and venusian frogwarriors? Thats gotta be a big payout on PHBingo I bet. Im still holding out hope for my last minute call of a "Venus Flytrap" boss :D Suggested edits: "Having not *encounter minor* world" should be "...encountered a minor..." "and ** only really heard about " missing word "having" "He’d long flown further than the entire diameter of Venus had from the outside." This need rewording. Perhaps "Jake continued on, having long flown deeper than the planets diameter into the cloud, "

SqrlyGrly

It's a pretty toxic environment. I wonder if there will be mushroom men and Jake will declare war and conquer the realm

Get better soon Zog! I hear mushrooms are good for your health! 🤪

Bruno Daxo

Why do I smell a catastrophe coming? Not for Jake... but caused by him? He's been using his Jake juice without restrictions or negative consequences the entire story; it's time for him to accidentally exterminate an entire world by creating something fundamentally inconsequential so that he'll be more careful...

Fylbrom

I called frogs! I knew it would be frogs on Venus hahaha, let's gooooo

Corvid

I would like to direct your attention to palate of the malefic viper.

Bruno Daxo

I didn't mean that there was no harm to him, but rather harm to the multiverse. An ability to strengthen something or someone in a "primordial" direction will not necessarily be beneficial to the rest of the people in the long run. I said that so far Jake's impulsive acts with his power have not had negative consequences for the people around him, and especially not for the weak and innocent.

Cyranosaurus

Thank you! Feel better soon!

Abhishek

Venusaur in the wild. Gotta catch ‘em all!

JJMand

Jake, probably.

Ra

Jake's bloodline wouldn't agree with this. It's more likely for Jake to turn instantly into a God than die, even as a prank.

djthomp

Our solar system is so weird and complicated, as it should be. Gives me hope that some or all of the rest of the planets will be interesting too. *Especially* Pluto. On a conceptual level the Boglord is the most mushroom-esque being made of decaying matter, so I hope Jake befriends and helps the frog dudes. With this environment being so toxic it might even make sense to bless some of them and give Villy a foothold into this closed space.

Loststar7

Thanks for the chapter and get well soon. Happy Monday everyone.

Polaris

Sounds like a little torterra mixed in there too

Baged

Thats a question for Discord mate.

Rahsheem Reid

I’d be super cool if Jake could fuse this place with pallet

RonGAR

🤔 Hmmm, Are we doing that trope? The trope where the MC levels up and now every damn person he meets is also on his level or higher? I hate it when that happens. Like the rest of the world of 'small folk' just disappears and the MC and the readers only see/read about characters of the same level/grade or higher. That aside. Surely Jake would want to sample the waters for Palet? All those unknown toxins are going unsampled. SMH. Wasteful really.

DeAndrea H

You know it’s going to be good when even Villy is curious. Can’t wait to see what happens. This vaguely reminds me of finding Rick the Troll and his kids while exploring the mushroom dungeon.

Kyle

I don’t think the rest will disappear entirely but his interactions with those much weaker will due to them not having anything for him Other then family and friends he needs those at his level to help progress

Mrburns93

Think of it like a survivorship bias. He meets the small folk, speaks to the small folk, deals every day with the small folk but a good story small folk dont make so only the strong make the books. For instance his meeting with the people on earth when he got back in preparation for the event they were all relatively low level in comparison or all of the people around him in the restaurant with Artemis. They exsist but Jake doesnt care so we dont see them because he doesnt even bother to identify them or acknowledge them past a glance

Josie

It's wild that the record density of Earth is because baby Jake didn't suppress his Bloodline since birth (nothing else on Earth accounts for this anomaly that I know of?) Actually with that logic, shouldn't his mom have an impressive Records density for being pregnant with him? 🤔

Justin

“Anyway, enough about that. " -- does this usually mean Villy tried to share forbidden knowledge? It pertained in this context to the gods realms and why there are issues with going into these hidden realms. Feels like the author has done it in the past a kinda "Anyways" deal. Not that important really but.. thought it interesting

Ben Cox

Tyftc, I am only a little shocked that Jake forgot to tell Miranda that theirs an entire hidden world next to their planet, but I suppose I can understand he didn't know if it was any use until he went in to check it out.

Kelvin Garcia

Didn't identify nog reveal levels higher than Jakes own?

ABTelford

Great start to the week. Thanks Zogarth!

Alexander C Hyde

Having not encounter(ed) (a) minor world before, and only really heard about the one Casper had constructed using the World Core of Yalsten, Jake assumed he would just have to touch the atmosphere to enter or something like that.

Corvid

Fair enough, like temlat multiplied by cancer or something, yeah?

Andyr98

Only higher grades. he can identify higher levels in his grade

ThatGuy

So people complain when he deals with small folk calling them filler and now that he’s going somewhere interesting we got more people complaining they want what the other group would call filler? Why can’t everyone just sit back and enjoy the book? Let zogarth write his story. You obviously enjoy it enough to pay for it monthly just read and be happy :) <3

Simon Andriessen

Well, a Transcendence is also a deeply personal thing, and the Sword Saint is way older than Jake. So he's certainly not the sole contributor of record density. Arnold is also odd, because while he is more obviously influenced by Jake, the nature of his powers/ abilities do not really align with Jake's, they're almost polar opposites (except for the perception stat). Same with Casper and Jacob, really. There's a lot of badasses that were badass before ever meeting him. The Forest King is an odd one too, because while he's badass on his own, the reason he was moved to the Earth tutorial from where he originated might be because of Jake.

islandcastle11

This is the best series ever Tyftc zog!! ❤️❤️

joker ledger

i think he can view up to his level +50% or something, so 465-ish if they dont have anything blocking identify like blessing or skills. They cover this in the tutorial.

joker ledger

not just Jake but also Eron and the SS, another bloodline patriach who fully leaned into it and an exceptional swordman, and prob more, people like Jacob, Arthur, William, Casper, Carmen are all exceptional people. It has been said before but Earth is weird for spawning so many capable talents.

Jip

Yeah, what This Guy said… or ThatGuy ig lmao

Josie

And yet none of them are a font of records that can even cause a Primordial to level up from 1 C grade experiment. So my question still stands 🤰

Mitha

I hope I'm not the only one who had lowkey hoped for 2 chapters today. Alas, we can't have it all.

dash w

Thanks for the chappy, hope you feel better soon Zogarth.

Cody

Fully agree, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Jake interacts with “small folk” all of the time. Wasn’t he just speaking with the wyvern who “hasn’t evolved to B grade”. Jake will have students in the future as well, not to mention we had a whole teaching arc at the academy. What’s with the 10 second memory RonGAR?

RonGAR

@Cody Damn Cody going hard in the paint. LOLOL Fine fine fine. You win! LOL

Jimbo

Edgar Rice Burroughs has entered the Chat. More seriously, shouldn't Jake be getting professional levels from huffing poison Venus gas? Or at least a pleasant buzz?

Jimbo

You are shocked that Jake forgot to tell Miranda something important? :)

Xerecs

This is really setting up earth as a premier hunting / leveling ground into B grade with the addition of the eventually completed labyrinth which as I recall will function from E through Early B grade. Now a minor world or dimension that could potentially have up to mid or even late B grades to fight.. Could start charging money for factions to send there young prodigies to earth to level up and get some passive aura resistance due to Jake owning the world.

MarineDebris

No, Jake is just always forgetting stuff. Nothing more to it. Lol

Jordan Rogers

I hope we get a glimpse of a peak B grade, maybe a tussle he barely survives by being yanked into the event

Rewdan

Oh My Days. Let’s go!!!! Thanks Zogarth

Rewdan

With some becoming allies

Biggy smalls

Minaga's Labyrinth should work through all of B grade. Jake just did it in Early B grade. But yes this area should also be a nice leveling spot for strong B grades. I imagine the other planets, asteriod belt, and the sun will have fun stuff in Store for A/S grades as well.

Jason Connors

I don't think we will see Jake fight a peak B grade anytime soon. His Nevermore party barely beat a peak C grade when they were all mid tier C grade. Jake while ridiculous, hasn't even had a chance to adjust to his boosting skill like he needed to in C grade.

Lemonsqueezy

This was not at all expected of what Venus would be. Excited of what comes to pass.

JohnSnowden

What about when he started a week long(i think?) hunger plaque while he was creating eternal hunger?

Carl Never

I would like to thank russia for spending so much money to give us such a plot line all these years later.

definitelynotbrjenness

earth is weird because there is an ancient demon controlled dungeon near its core. before the system integration the dungeon monopolized nearly all of the planets mana/essence/records.

UNKNOWN

Do you mean something like Jake getting high off that Venus Gas?

Benjamin Mages

But he's not being reckless about this at all? He's being very selective about who he empowers, and every time he does so he goes in fully aware of the risk of creating a greater calamity. What would catastrophe cause him to do that he's not already doing? Stop using it entirely?

Josie

There's something extra satisfying about this chapter. The unknown or chance for real danger maybe? It's real exploration without any outside hints or helps and I don't think even Villy can see Jake now that he's in?

Phil Ritter

That’s pretty much what we and Jake have been waiting for since he chose his path

Josie

I hope Jake hands this place off to Scarlett once he's gotten what he's wanted out of Venus. From the sound of it, it's too toxic for those without Villy's Legacy and the System cap is too low for high B grades from other universes to enter. She can make more monster friends!🐍🐢

Daniel

I wanted dinosaurs, but I will take frogs. Venus is epic!!!!

Brett Peterson

Fun fact - early sci-fi called Venusians "Venerians", because "venereal" is the adjective form of Venus. That makes a lot of people uncomfortable, though, since the only other place that word shows up is "venereal disease" (do not Google). Still, this suggests an opportuniry for a Zogarth pun or joke or bit...

DefinitelyNotMinaga

KICK IN THE DOOR WAVE IN THE 44 ALL YOU HEARD WAS MINAGA DONT HIT ME NO MORE! I hope Jake has an absolute terrible time in Venus....im tired of him breaking all my hard work.

DefinitelyNotMinaga

*rolls 4 eyes* No more tasty snacks unless you do my new labyrinth...

DefinitelyNotMinaga

Yeah this is a fun side gig for Jake, the many unknowns seem to make this a perilous but profitable environment, he may be forced out if he bites off more than he can chew (as he usually does). It would be funny to have a repeat of Jake barely making it to an event looking like crap like when he fought that one panther. But that seems below standard considering his current status and grade. I'm genuinely curious how all of this will play out ::D

Josie

that panther fight was one of my favorite moments! and Jake was so exhausted after he napped on the friggin corpse 😰

spyks

It also has to deal with grades more so than levels I believe. I haven’t seen him able to identify above his grade but as someone else mentioned he can a certain amount of levels within his grade.

DefinitelyNotMinaga

That was a pretty good fight hehe. Then Jake flexed in the treasure hunt fighting the Vice count in that atrium in front of noobz. That arc was epic as it built up to the fight with the SS. I cant wait for their next "spar." ;;)

DefinitelyNotMinaga

id rather visit Venus than Afghanistan. Venus has cool frogs but Afghanistan has goddamn Camel Spiders. Seriously screw that place.
