Jake certainly didn’t enjoy being put on the spot, and he felt all the A-grades passively observe him, looking for any sort of reaction. However, Jake couldn’t give an answer that wouldn’t be detrimental, because it was the truth. The ninety-third universe was heavily restricted, and truth be told, if these A-grades broke out, they could conquer the entire Milky Way relatively easily.

Sure, in due time, the Order of the Malefic Viper would be able to enter the universe and perform a purge, wiping out every native of Venus, but how the hell would that help Jake’s current situation? The only thing he had was the threat of that happening... and he reckoned that was his best bet after some consideration.

Trying to still play it cool, as if he’d just been momentarily surprised, Jake raised his hands in a joking manner. “You got me. It’s indeed under a level restriction. One that’s loosening every day.”

The Horned Slayer smiled as Jake tried to get ahead and reclaim some momentum as he continued.

“Which means the threat of the multiverse to this Minor World isn’t gone. Just delayed. That’s why I said it could take up to a thousand years originally, as by that point, the restrictions will have loosened significantly,” Jake continued, not feeling confident saying that he believed A-grades, especially not peak A-grades, would be able to enter the universe by then.

“We know,” the Horned Slayer said, continuing to smile. “Or, more accurately, we’d figured. And isn’t that part of the problem? We all fully realize that this multiverse will utterly dominate us once the time comes, but you know what won’t help us avoid such a fate? Being trapped in here.”

Jake frowned, genuinely confused about what the Horned Slayer was getting at. “What do you mean? We were just talking about working on a plan to figure out the best way to create travel between this Minor World and the universe.”

The Horned Slayer looked at Jake before shaking his head, as, surprisingly, the Nestmother moved closer and spoke.

“You’re used to being in a position of authority, yes? That your decisions matter, and that ultimately, your will shall dictate events. Because that’s exactly the assumption you’re operating under right now,” the Nestmother said, also shaking her head. “You say work on a plan, but tell me this... what stops you from merely leaving through the Boundary, locking down the entrance with the authority you clearly hold in the outside world? Stops you from waiting for a few thousand years before sending in these S-grades to utterly dominate our world? Our people?”

Jake suddenly realized why these A-grades were acting like this as he frowned. “That has never been my intention.”

“Again, that’s the problem,” the Nestmother let out a loud sigh. “Every outcome of what happens to this world relies on your intentions. Your choices decide our fate. You can come and go as you please. Meanwhile, we’re all trapped here and can only enter the outside world at your mercy. On your timeline. And what then awaits us on the other side? From all you’ve said so far, the only fate we can look forward to is a life as subordinates if we’re lucky, or slaves if we’re unlucky. Assuming we even survive.”

At this, Jake didn’t immediately have a response, at least not one he wouldn’t expect to get another sigh as a reaction. He started really considering what she was saying and... she kind of had a point. A point Jake had heard many times before on both Earth and the rest of the Milky Way, and one Miranda had talked about being a problem in several places.

A problem Jake could totally understand, but was lucky he didn’t have to deal with.

No faction liked being dominated and forced into a subordinate position by a stronger force, just as Jake didn’t like being told what to do.

Jake had essentially come into this Minor World and started preaching of supremely powerful factions that would inevitably conquer the entire world, and in his mind, all he had considered was which factions these races could join. How, maybe, the Arachnecs would fit with the Risen, and the Venusians probably with the United Tribes. However, throughout this, he had never considered perhaps the most important question:

Did these races even want to become subordinates of a multiversal faction?

He had come to their world and more or less announced their future conquerors. With such a large disparity in power, the natives of Venus likely realized they couldn’t win a fight when the time came, which was probably why they were trying to do something now. Something to preserve whatever they currently had.

Jake was deep in thought, and this was definitely noticed as the A-grades kindly gave him some time to process. At least until it was evident Jake had reached some kind of realization.

“He finally seems to be getting it,” the Horned Slayer said with a slight chuckle, shaking his head. “Human, I don’t blame you. You probably like this faction of yours, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m not particularly keen on being forced under someone else without any input.”

“We fully realize that we will be in no position to fight, but we still aim to create a situation where we can at least negotiate,” the Nestmother continued, where the Horned Slayer left off. The two of them had really done a one-eighty by working together now, which showed that if nothing else, Jake had successfully managed to create some sort of unity even between warring factions.

“What exactly do you want from me? To be clear, I’m more than happy helping you to make this transition as smooth as possible, both for individuals and factions, but I’ll also be honest... remaining entirely independent isn’t an option. The entrance is located in an area already ruled by someone and under the purview of the Order of the Malefic Viper, but maybe it can be agreed that the Minor World itself will remain under your control,” Jake said, really just trying to communicate he was open to finding a solution.

Despite the attitudes of Venus’s natives having taken a bit of a turn, they still didn’t show outright hostility. Clearly, they wanted something out of this, and it had to be something Jake could provide.

“Even in that scenario, we’ll at best be considered vassals at best, and it will be given through mercy that can be retracted at any point,” the Nestmother said, shaking her head. “I am glad to hear you’re willing to help, though. Because we admittedly do need your help... the circumstances of this help, just cannot come solely based on your whims, though.”

This appeared to be the crux of their current issues. Despite the actual disparity in power, Jake was more or less holding all the cards right now. They had no recourse if Jake acted against them or refused to cooperate. Well, no recourse but to use their superior power.

“I understand you’re in a difficult position, but again, all I can give is my word,” Jake sighed, getting the feeling that nothing he could say would reassure these A-grades. They likely also questioned if Jake, as a mere B-grade, was even capable of making any truly important decisions.

“No, no, you can do something more,” the Horned Slayer said with a smile. “Something to equalize the situation somewhat.”

Jake had a feeling he wasn’t going to like what would come next as the Horned Slayer continued.

“As you no doubt realize, you hold all the decision-maker power, and all we’re going to ask of you is to hand that over. To trust us in the same way that you’re asking us to trust you,” the A-grade said, as a figure Jake had waited to speak finally entered the conversation.

“Oh, that’s why I’m here,” the Lich cackled, definitely having looked forward to this moment in the conversation. The powerful Lich waved its hand as magical scripts started flying in the air, and Jake’s eyes opened wide when he realized what it was.

“Good. Good, you know what this is,” the Lich said with a pleased smile. “Before, you spoke about making a plan for the integration of natives from this world. Isn’t this a great first step? A document setting certain... parameters for success.”

Jake continued staring at something he recognized all too well.

A Soul Contract.

There were many forms of magic in the multiverse Jake wasn’t a fan of, and Soul Contracts were certainly one of them. Especially seeing as the most common use of Soul Contracts throughout the multiverse was to create slaves. Sometimes they did have legitimate uses, as Soul Contracts were binding and could carry catastrophic backlash if broken, often even resulting in death. This made these contracts incredibly powerful but also underused outside the slave trade, as the backlash also meant most would never dare to sign one unless they really had no choice.

Especially because these contracts were never truly equal, meaning more often than not, the only way to have someone sign it was under duress. Such as the situation right now, because the contract Jake was staring at sure wasn’t one of equals either.

It wasn’t a slave contract... but it got disgustingly close.

“This is naturally just a draft to be edited and refined until we all reach an agreement we’re all happy with,” the Lich said in a cheery tone. “Of course, some things are non-negotiable. Such as this.”

The Lich pointed at one of the terms written in runes that outlined Jake would have to “report in” at the Lich or one of the leaders of the Venusians or Arachnecs at least once every five years.

“And this, of course.”

A second term outlined how Jake had to bring a certain number of natives from the Minor World into the universe every decade, with that number being far from small.

He read the entire damn thing through, and it more or less read like a job description. Except it wasn’t a job Jake could merely quit if it ended up sucking. Instead, the Soul Contract would naturally expire the day free travel through the Boundary became a thing.

In return, the natives of the Minor World would provide Jake with resources to help hasten his growth – something that was definitely done more for their own sake so he could bring them out faster – and a guarantee none would dare hurt him while within the Minor World.

The real “pull” of what they offered came in the form of giving him his own “special cave” down at the ocean of the Minor World. Jake recalled the Shaman mentioning these as more or less blessed land for any monster, as the mana there was incredibly dense and pure due to natural formations. In other words, a place entirely useless to Jake, given that he wasn’t a monster.

There were a lot more things in the Soul Contract, but honestly... did it fucking matter?

“Naturally, some of the other things are hard to negotiate, but I’m sure that-“

“Is this a fucking joke?” Jake cut off the near-peak A-grade.

The Lich instantly stopped looking all jolly as she looked at him. “It’s most certainly not. Understand that this is the best option. Submit while you are weaker, reap the benefits, and in due time, you’ll come to realize that you made a wise decision today.”

“Or what, you’re gonna kill me?” Jake said, pointing at the contract. “Because I’m not signing shit.”

Reasonable thought and politeness had entirely left Jake’s mind as he fully realized it didn’t matter anymore. He’d tried those things and realized it had been the wrong approach from the start of this conversation. Something had felt wrong from the beginning, and now he knew why.

Just looking at the contract made Jake feel a deep rage from within.

“Please, this is just a starting point, and while it’s certainly heavily in our favor, do try to understand-“ the Oracle started, but Jake cut her off.

“It’s you who doesn’t seem to understand. I’m never going to sign anything. You have either the choice of trusting me or killing me, and if I were you, I would at least try the former first, because the latter will only have one very predictable conclusion,” Jake said.

“What? That you die a needless death due to your own stubbornness and refusal to see what kind of situation you’re in?” the Horned Slayer rejoined the conversation with a disappointed-sounding tone. “You’re obviously young, so give up that stupid bravado and take the damn Lich’s advice. Do we want to kill you? No, obviously not, but if we allow ourselves to be trampled all over by a mere B-grade, we’re gonna get utterly crushed down the line.”

“You’re right now headed straight towards the worst ending imaginable,” Jake sneered.

The Horned Slayer narrowed his eyes as he flared his aura at Jake. “I’m being nice right now because you’re useful, but at some point, your delusion has to come to an end. You’re a B-grade. Sure, you’re talented, and I don’t doubt your faction values you, but don’t kid yourself. Do you really think some supreme being would go out of their way to avenge something like you? Stop kidding yourself. Sure, they might demand compensation, but if the Venusians offered allegiance to this Malefic Viper, do you genuinely think such a being will give a shit we killed a damn B-grade?”

And there was the second major misunderstanding or error in the approach of the natives of Venus. Another explanation why the hell they dared to act as they currently were. They didn’t fully comprehend the concept of gods and Blessings, so they didn’t understand what it meant to be a Chosen. At most, Jake was indeed just a talented B-grade, and what faction would throw away a race full of B-grades and even A-grades to avenge someone like Jake?

They were right in that usually no faction would bother to... except Jake was a Chosen. Even ignoring his close personal relationship with Villy, no god would accept someone killing their Chosen. A Chosen was the prophet of a god, and in many cases, their mouthpiece among mortals. Killing a Chosen was a personal offense to a god, and revenge was more about pride than the person who was actually slain.

“You’re absolutely clueless,” Jake scoffed at the A-grade. “Let me make it absolutely fucking clear and make sure that truth-teller of yours is watching. If I die in this minor world, I can guarantee you that every single one of you will meet the same fate, and this entire world will be erased from existence.”

He had tried playing nice and used veiled threats and implications at most, but it was clear the time for those kinds of things had long passed. Now, it was time to directly threaten them with annihilation, and he truly did believe what he was saying. He knew Villy well enough to know that he would destroy this entire Minor World, and not just because he wanted to avenge Jake as a person. If he allowed someone to kill his Chosen without absolutely devastating consequences, it would undermine all he’d been working on with the Order’s expansion. The natives of Venus would just be another warning to the rest of the multiverse.

And if Villy didn’t take revenge, then he at least hoped Artemis would. She seemed like the type who would.

Further leaning into threats, Jake used a card he’d been saving and wanted to avoid using if he could, in part because he really didn’t want to risk the mental resistance, but he felt like he needed to do it anyway.

Without any warning, Jake used Invocation on Pride of the Malefic Viper as he unleashed the divine aura of the Primordial while speaking again.

“I-“

Jake didn’t even get further as the presence of the Horned Slayer crashed down on him, this time with a bit of actual energy infused into it. Under the pressure from a near-peak A-grade, Jake’s Pride of the Malefic Viper crumbled as his soul experienced a sudden shock, nearly knocking him unconscious from the backlash of having his skill broken.

“You can posture and mimic all you want, but it isn’t going to work,” the Horned Slayer said in a slightly mocking tone as he moved toward Jake. “The terms have already been laid out, and you really have no choice. All you’re doing right now is lessening any goodwill we have and making things harder for yourself. That, or you’re actually looking to die.”

The words rang in Jake’s head as his mind was still shaken, and beneath his mask, blood poured out of his eyes, nose, and mouth, as his soul had suffered some severe damage. As he saw the Horned Slayer approach, only a single thought struck him.

Could I harm him if I did that?

Jake felt his heartbeat as his Bloodline responded, ready to heed his will should he choose to make his final stand. He doubted it would lead to anything... but he wanted to at least see if he could make one of them bleed if it came down to it.

“Not gonna talk? Fine, I’ll give you some time to recover, but it won’t change anything. Make the smartest decision of your life, because there’s no leaving alive unless a Soul Contract is signed. No help is coming, and-“

The Horned Slayer stopped himself and whipped his head around as he stared downwards. Jake also felt it and instinctively shifted his gaze below, where he saw the world shifting as a massive, scaled beast ascended towards them, its aura overshadowing every other A-grade present.

Big snake time! I was thinking yesterday that this was horned frog was going to get to suffer some consequences but then was unsure after he started this chapter being a bit polite, but by the end of it I hope the snake is straight up about to eat him.

Loststar7

Scaley boi club to the rescue 😂. Thanks for the chapter.

Nice

Yes

frankie doerr

They really fucked up jakes freedom is worth more than his life to him

Jacob Mahler

I have a feeling villy blessed the crap out of the A grade snake

Michael Fannon

Oh look, a recently blessed and evolved S grade showing up to get pissed that Jake got an owwie. Frogs and bugs should really not piss of snakes.

Sylphie

oh f offfffffff

Bluejay

Thanks for the chapter. New blessed of the Malific Viper arrives.

Mateo Lopez

like an addict I have found my fix! This has left me speechless. I don’t know what to say other than, bravo!

Slave contract… can think of a bigger way to really piss off Jake unless you harm the ones he loves…. Those idiots! Now no one else will be getting out! Hahahahahaha

Sammot

Why the cliff!!!!!

Rune Reader 99

Awww yeahhhh it's time to meet the serpent

CSE1234

One thing that's weird is that Jake's bloodline wouldn't warn him that coming back could be dangerous.

Dan Greaves

I wish I had the self restraint to not read this for 2 weeks so I could actually emerse myself in the story for more than a few minutes per day. The daily cliffs are so bad recently! TYFTC, this arc that it's unreal.

Siethrobo

Snake? SNAAAKE!?

Jake tried to tell em ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m so glad it’s not a Friday Huh wait I said that yesterday

Well that was predictable

"I greet the Chosen."

Vega

Damn. Villy was right, he should have been ruthless and killed them and left. I’m really looking forward to Jake being more ruthlessly pragmatic as he explores the multiverse, learns how it works and learns how to make backup plans for himself, instead of having Villy bail him out. I’m really enjoying this arc so far, I reckon it’ll be pretty pivotal to his character growth.

Sheresik

Thanks! I don’t know how I will survive until tomorrow in this suspense.

thkiwow

Wipe them out!

FUCK UM UUUUP

Karim Saadi

Holy shit, did Jake ever fuck up this much in the past? Maybe he could escape with his wings? Maybe? But villy truly saved his life. No neither frogs nor spiders gonna get shit, won't leave the world and will become a lesser faction in this world. Fuck around and find out

Artem GhostiX

God damnit... The clif is so much steeper and I have to wait another 24 hours 🥲

Xerecs

Just fyi for those not in discord Zog posted this message with the chapter announcement. "So, imma just warn you all... quite busy these days with new house and stuff, so expect there may be a few days without chapters."

Sylphie

I guess we cant

ABTelford

Yay! Welcome snake boss! But…I have a feeling this is still not going to go smoothly. *hysterical giggle!* I’m so excited! 🤪

TFTC :) Seems whomever had "Big snek saves" in the pool is gonna be happy tomorrow :) Suggested edits: "From all you’ve ** so far," missing word "said" "look forward to is ** subordinates" missing word "as" "we’ll *at most* be considered vassals *at best*," either/or, not both. "have to “report in” *at* the Lich" should be "to" " the day free travel *between* the Boundary became" should be "through" " All you’re doing right ** is lessening any" missing word "now"

Ray Light

Too little time to do so. And I don't think the Horned Frog intended to actually kill him, Just cripple him. So the intent was not there to fire his senses I guess.

Justin

I hope Jake marks the horned slayer and lets him know he’s future prey that will never see the multiverse. Maybe the lich too. Def the frog though.

Sylphie

Plan: 1) self induced severe concussion 2) month in hospital 3) forget about your kids, wife, life 4) find a note to self when ultimately arrive to your house 5) "READ PH" 6) you'll read from beginning 7) enjoy the valdemar fight once more 8) once hitting the wall of content, just return to 1)

Ray Light

Maybe his Palate getting wrecked was objectively worse as he'll recover from this faster chapter wise? Idk.

Rob Lyon

I thought Jake could not be put under a soul contract because of his bloodline

Lucas Fialho

Congrats Zog, this outcome is realistic still... I was wondering how zog would make the venusians and arachnecs not looking dumb by backstabing jake, but they come with a really good deal for someone without full sight of the situation, and based on what they already know (how a newly evolved B grade would be so important? Arachnecs even toss their B grades away...) Also i think they dont know jake is a fucking camera man for a being far stronger then him (maybe jake should not held this information?) Anyway, they had all the honey but threw all the way... Sad for then, nice for the others factions that doesnt pissed jake

Ritsu

Slave contracts. Soul contracts he can do just fine.

Mitha

Did Villy sit there and command the helper to emerge exactly when someone said "no help is coming"?

Jeff

Jake’s about to make another snake friend!

joker ledger

This js one of them time lacking diplomacy and ppl skill really screw with jake.

Karim Saadi

Well, I was referring to Jake simply dying here except for Snek ex machina, not the soul damage

Kota

This really goes to show overestimating others can sometimes be just as dangerous as underestimating them. I get the feeling Jake counted just a little bit too much on them being level-headed and reasonable enough to at least hear him out. Sure, they're acting on limited information, but they definitely know that. The fact that they're still ready to burn bridges this quickly instead of gathering more intel first suggests they've gotten a little too used to being top dogs.

joker ledger

Still isnt dangerous since they dont plan on killing him. His intuition isnt all powerful

Kota

Good intuition does have its limits, it seems. Particularly with situations as layered and complicated as this.

Lucas Fialho

I agree to some stent... Jake was naive, but just killing enemies that are "humanoid" (despite being viewed as monsters by the system is not the jake way... He could just not had returned to the minor world and yet and he would be fine.

ItsFin

I hope jake and the big snake are the only survivors

Kota

Depending on how the serpent chooses to intervene, the Horned Slayer's life expectancy might just be in the range of minutes, not years.

Lucas Fialho

I think he canot be put to a soul contract like that (as it is almost slavery), but the point is: he didnt need his bloodline to negate the contract, as his own personality would never allow him to sign this kind of deal

Kota

Yeah, I think this might be the first hole Jake dug for himself that he couldn't get out of on his own power. Palate was bad as well, but that he would have probably survived, with the Viper just lessening the damage. This is different.

Catrina

I thought he could only have one soul contract at a time and already has one with sylphie

Lucas Fialho

I think he would not be able to scape with his wings, not right now he is under the gun. Scaping from a mid to peak B grade is something, but the time he started show any sign that he would try to scape in the middle of a bunch of strong A grades he would be dead.

thkiwow

Man I just imagine the horned front as an epstein smile pepe(smug and creepy). I think the description fits.

BumAssBumAss

People called these A-grades stupid in the previous chapter, but with their explanation, it makes sense now. What a cliff, can't wait for villy's backup plan for covering Jake's ass to come in.

Kota

Man I'd feel bad for the Venusian and Arachnec B-grades, just getting screwed over by the higher ups' decisions without any input themselves.

BumAssBumAss

With is ironic because they accused Jake of being too used to being the top dog.

Schneeente

It's a credit to Zog's skill as a writer that he manages to grip my attention like a cobra popping up out of nowhere right in front of me, even thousands of chapters into the story. Chapeau!

DraconicBS

They need to renew their contract still since they were meant to do so once both were in B-Grade but they got sidetracked.

VGamer

Shot in the dark here but what if Villy called the great serpent to aid Jake and in return Jake brought him out of the minor world? The requirement of Jake being "stronger" than the serpent could be worked around based on the strength of the blessing of the Malefic Viper that each person has.

TyranT-Rex

For real, it seemed like it would just be a minor stop of before the Prima event. Maybe gain a few levels, upgrade a skill then start the event. This blew away my expectations

definitelynotbrjenness

He's farming the cliffhanger xp. But in all seriousness, I think I'd miss a few days while moving. Of course, it is most likely an excuse to rework what he planned so he can add in dire platypus and poison hippo.

Bale

FUCKING CALLED IT!!!

Hornbach

They would not believe him even if he said it. I'm also not sure if he can't sign soul contracts or if he just can't become a slave.

SJR2301

Jake is gonna pay the snake back for saving him by using Jake juice for its s grade evolution.

definitelynotbrjenness

They are acting reasonable in all ways except underestimating Jake's value. Just need to make them see the light and understand that Jake does have the power to ensure they are able to join factions of their own choosing as long as they follow a few simple rules. 1. Don't piss Jake off. 2. Don't cause Miranda too much trouble. 3. Don't be too much of an asshole.

CSE1234

The thing is his bloodline has shown on several occasions to even respond to abstract danger. During system integration it warned him that something was off that day, pre-system kid jake threw a tantrum that prevented his parents from leaving the house and dying in a car crash, it warned him that sylphie and the fallen king were in danger, it warned him that elhakan was invading, during minagas labrynth it could somehow intuit which portal to go through in a non life or death situation. This is just naming a few. The only time his bloodline has ever been this silent was when eating the core that almost killed him which kinda doesnt make sense as how much more dangerous can you really get than that? (Clarification: i still really like the series, it's just that the bloodline is becoming more like spidey sense where it's as strong as the writer wants it to be)

Cory S.

The great serpent coming in hot with a possible blessing from Villy. Looking forward to tomorrow’s chapter

KingGoomba

I really enjoyed this chapter but I had hoped the conclusion wouldn’t be the giant serpent. But it’s Chekhov’s fun, you can’t introduce something without using it. I just wanted Jake to same way figure it out

Belias Harkonnen

Ooooh, they fucked up so badly.... Thanks for the chapter!

Matthew Monroe

Jake did not learn from the nevermore betrayal floor lol.

Kota

Hey, both can be true.

WhiteLeeopard

I hope Jake doesn't just forgive and forget this. He is often far too patient and forgiving. And of course let's hope the lesson sticks. Maybe even wiping out the two races once he reaches A would be good.

Xerecs

We have been in a cliffhanger for going on 12 chapters now with no update on anyone participating in the first part of the system event.

Gabe Stankiewicz

I KNEW that the Big Snek would come the second it felt the divine aura of the Viper from Jake among all the other A grades!! I just knew it! I love it so much haha Thank you for the chapter Zogarth!!! 💜💜

Collector of Stories

I’m curious to learn how Villy pulled this off. I’m not complaining I’m really enjoying the story right now. Did he use his records as the oldest snake in existence to reach out to the A-grade serpent? Gods are able to give out blessing in locked universes so was Villy able to do something similar in the minor world? Or maybe Villy’s thing is entirely different and this is just a coincidence? Though I doubt this last one.

Kota

Kinda, but this probably isn't the smartest or most rational approach either. Their biggest fear is Jake sealing this world and not bringing anyone else out, and they have to realize whoever takes over for Jake after they kill him would do that for sure if they prove themselves that hostile. Risking that when Jake was already willing to help them without coercion reeks of desperation and injured pride, not level-headed decisionmaking.

definitelynotbrjenness

Zog's keeping a lot of options at least plausible. We recognize the most likely. Villy opening a can of bigsnek whoopass, but also are aware of the possibility to zog things up with something totally unpredictable...Jake being unable to dominate event due to soul trauma. Minaga. Going nuke VS asserting dominance. Minaga. Bigsnek bringing in order forces as backup. Minaga. Villy stepping in through back door. Minaga. A billion order b grades appearing. Or even minaga.

khielira

Oh am I looking forward to the beat down that's going to happen soon. Even if the beating is just the pride of the frogs and spiders

Alexandre8901

Jake in a position of weakness. Sounds like major motivation rush to level up is coming!

Bobo

Tyfc

kandiana

He just tweaked fate a bit? To give a blessing, a god needs to make contact. Iirc it is done during evolutions by invitation, through infused statues or through other blessed. No way to give a blessing without making a contact first

definitelynotbrjenness

Zog is violating the cliffhanger proliferation agreement. Perhaps a neighboring country would like to annex Denmark? Wait, how much oil does Denmark have?

BumAssBumAss

That's where the misunderstanding begins. They don't expect a big reaction from a large faction as Jake is B-grade. Since Jake is B-grade, they still hold some power as A-grades. Jake has implanted the fear that they'll eventually be taken over, as if it is fate. Fearing that future, they are securing power while they can. It's not the best decision, but if you look at it from their perspective, it's at least understandable why they did what they did.

definitelynotbrjenness

Nice. No one else had any clue that bigsnek was showing up with a blessing. Guaranteed hall of fame prediction.

Here comes the danger noodle

Alex

The snakes that met jake heard villys name and title and rushed off

Aldrin

I hope they snake doesn't kill any of them and jake comes back to settle the grudge himself.

Cyranosaurus

I sure hope there is a chapter in a few books about Jake getting revenge on this Lich….i get it is natural to flex power but still event horizon would look so nice on the Lich and maybe a few others someday.

John H

God damn them A grades are fucked.

Stephen Crisel

well the fa phase is over time to fo

David

Ditto!

Michael

I’m curious what are the limitations for gods to give blessings, especially inside this minor world? Can any god give it to anyone? Didn’t the snake have to accept the blessing from Villy first?

Michael mann

The horned slayer just signed his death warrant. I had a feeling Villy’s “finger on the scale” would be triggered if Jake got hurt. As stated, Jake is a Chosen, so the insult carries over. Villy about to 3rd party smite a fool

Takoda Heitz

Oh yeah, these people don’t know how badly they fucked up

Michael

Could Villy bless the horned slayer for example?

Vega

If he doesn’t kill them, they will report back that Jake had reneged on their agreement and left. If/When the System allows the Venus folks a way out some time in the future without Jake’s assistance, there is a chance they will cause trouble for Jake if he isn’t responsive enough or doesn’t have the firepower to deal with them quickly enough.

Ctrl Alt Dust

A little snek got himself a little blessing.

Borbino the great

I think in the minor realm it’s likely based on karma like villy has karma through the snakes by being a snake himself and a more direct connection through Jake that I’m sure helped but they still have to accept I think?

Eric Rasputin

The snake who joined is not Villy (most likely). It's probably the Snake Ancestor whose descendants we met in the past few chapters. That one will protect Jake because of the kinship he feels due to being a scaled beast.

beeve

Oracle nestmother and lich too

beeve

Or just every a grade present.. leave maybe one

Dewdrop06

Somehow I think there might be a better way to do that...

Almer Reyhan

WHAT IN THE MOTHER OF CLIFF HANGER :((((((((((((((((((((

Chance Haggerty

Naw it’s villy’s back up plan from a few chapters ago and it’s about to give out a beat down from hell on these assholes that don’t yet understand fucked they are 🤣 I hope they live so Jake can finish them off in a few centuries tho it would make a great hunting trip

zran

and likely he will, i doubt the viper will let that slide and so will order the snake a grade to kill that hirned toad as example

Almer Reyhan

We know they fucked up because we're the readers. If I were in their situation, I'd probably do the same thing to jake.

John Kornegay

Permanently erase an arm and a leg too…as a warning

KevB

Oooh Villy's gonna roast him over this

Steven Tuttle

When is Miranda coming back what is she up to? And holy cow it's about to go down...

zran

a danger noodle, not the danger noodle

Tom Castle

The biggest learning moments for jake so far, was bound to happen eventually

Kevin Watson

Extremely satisfying chapter, Jake had the full Heisenberg reaction, from trying to lean on charisma with the literal “You got me” gif to his immediate switch to anger and threatening when that didn’t work. I knew the Snakulear option would come, the big green button if you will

zran

eh, it was easy to predict, especially after the few lines of villy preparing something for the expected scenario of the inhabitants turning on jake

definitelynotbrjenness

"where is the fool creature that claims there is a snake greater than me." "you! as ugly as you are stupid." yoink bigsnek with jake on way to bigsnek's home, "damn chosen. you really screwed up. what were you thinking."

zran

jake cannot bring out a graders yet, down the road sure, but is more likely what the viper promised is most likely his blessing(likely a divine one)

zran

definitelly

Kevin Watson

I wonder how this event will effect Jake’s diplomacy with completely unknown groups

Kevin Watson

i’m excited to potentially see some “you have eyes but can’t see mount tai” type dialogue preceding giving the Sea Serpent a blessing that completely unevens the playing field

Belias Harkonnen

You're right with that From their POV's it is the best solution possible But it was still thr wrong solution

zran

@DraconicBS they already did renewed it once, it has not expired yet, its expiration is not related to grade, but time

Blake N.

Clearly Villy gave him a divine blessing and convinced him to go help

zran

nah, if he leaves them alone he WILL return later to end them personally, besides, likely the sea snake and its faction will definitelly weaken them for his returnal when he reaches A grade(since it wont be able to leave inmediatedly) jake is the kind of person who returns favors with favors and blood with more blood

Eden

Well, we about to lose some frog people and undead, thats for sure.

Buzzkill081

I am already dreading the Friday cliff

Eden

Wonder if villy blessed this dude yet or not. Either way hebwould prob help just cause of the connection to villy mc has

Kota

What they're trying to do is understandable, but I'm not sure why so many seem to think this was actually the smartest choice with the information they had. What they could gain by forcing Jake into a contract like this is relatively minor, especially when he was already willing to help them anyway (and they know he is sincere about that). Compared to that, counting on his faction not giving two sh*ts about Jake when they know their information on the wider multiverse is incredibly limited seems like quite the gamble. Especially when he seems so dead certain about the opposite being the case, betting all your lives on the human just being a delusional idiot is so ballsy... What I'm saying is, a clever diplomat or truly skilled statesman might have habdled this differently, which only tells us that the Venusians are not that. Understandable, given that their paths in this world probably didn't leave much room for developing such skills. I just wouldn't say they did the best with what they had, more like Jake isn't the only screwup here.

Pekka Kohonen

"It was at this moment he (they) knew... he fu**ed up". Welcome to the rest of your life as ... snake poop.

Pekka Kohonen

The event should give a negative modifier to Jake's diplomacy --- anyway... this is no longer a matter of diplomacy.

Clint

Even if it was a typo, I love the phrase “Chekhov’s fun”. I’m going to use that from now on. Because the arrival of Chekhov’s gun after a suitable amount of anticipation is definitely fun.

Clint

Horned Slayer really, really should have checked with his team’s truth detector before he did that. Fatal error.

Clint

I think most of us did. That’s part of what makes it such a fun “reveal”.

joker ledger

The ones you just list isnt abstract danger, all involve life threatening situation and involve deaths. As for the core, it wasnt dangerous until he decide to fuck around and break palate and nearly die. He was fine and manage to stable the core. Even when he was in danger villy swoop in to help him. All life threatening situation before are ones where there were no outside help

jb qspam

How is Jake having trouble with an A-grades presence when he didn’t have any issue with Valdemar’s?

J

Fafo

Raymond Lenihan

I thought the same thing, right now I assume since the A grade infused energy into his aura it goes beyond normal suppression, and can only assume Valdemar did not do that.

Dakota gleason

The difference was intent valdemars was just his passive aura and a tad bit of intent while the a grade had full intent of suppression along with the side affects of invocation

D

I have been so suckednin

William WIlson

Honestly they all are dead. They don't know it yet but broke the bloodline accords.

Raymond Whitehead

Valdemar didnt put any energy into the clash, the frog did.

beeve

At the very least the horned slayer considering he just attacked Jake’s soul

CocoaBleu

Did… did he just soul pimp slap Jake!!! Welp, he just sealed his fate. Now its just a matter of what will be left when Jake comes back and makes Villy proud of his chosen… after he laughs at him for a bit though for even getting himself in this perdicament in the first place… 🤦🏾‍♀️

Dan

Well that horned slayer isn't coming out alive now. Rest in pieces Venus, hopefully the serpent leaves enough beings that Jake can come farm the minor world when he hits A grade

Thekoopa20

But back in the tutorial after Jake finished the challenge dungeon and met Villy in his divine realm for the fist time, Villy tried to supress Jake with his full aura and it hadn’t worked at all. So i’m kinda torn, it seems logical that the Horned Slayer’s aura would crush him if he really wanted to but we’ve never had that happen before so it’s kinda weird

beeve

Yeah my thought is that Jake will give the snake a blessing in front of everyone

Rodney

I mean it's the common trope of armstronger than you how dare you not listen to me even though I don't understand your backing or your power or anything else that being said maybe we can turn this into a hunting ground in the Milky Way since there are so many stupid people who don't think so good. We have someone who explains to you that there are things you don't understand about the greater world factions so powerful that you will be crushed underfoot and I belong to one and you're going to try to make me a soul slave you don't think so good.

Mahmut Sacakli

I hope he orders the snake to kill those he gave permission of the outside world so they can get fuck all out of this.

Rodney

But honestly part of me if they don't die in the next chapter or three I hope they live just long enough to understand just how dumb they were.

Jeryd Greer

Yeah but as the said it’s a position of powerful refusing to yield. They believe they can turn the tables fast enough before the universe opens up and have established their faction.

Strickdoggg

Boglord going to come from the other side like” if it isn’t the toads who keep messing with my kin”

beeve

Where in discord did he say that?

Benjamin Mages

It’s not that weird, there is a massive difference between passive aura and actively trying to hurt someone with it. If Villy had put even a little effort into the aura from before Jake would be a pile of dust.

Mrburns93

Think its just because he broke the skill. Jake used invocation and it was the skill the broke causing the backlash

Sean McClain

They have lived for so long with A Grade being the pinnacle, that the idea any B Grade is more important then a handful of A Grades to an outside faction is unthinkable. Its literally anathema to their entire culture and known reality. They can never grasp the concept because doing so would be considered insane and a mental disorder in their culture. They clearly breifly considered it, as Jake heavily implies it, but they dismissed it out of hand as ridiculous. Yes they lack information on the outside multiversal, but this core held understanding of A Grades being more valuable the B Grades in absolutely every circumstance is so foundational that they can't grasp a reality where its not true. Remember thes people don't have traditional families but collectives. So no one favors their spawn over others. Just faction against faction where only usefulness of the individual matters. And an A Grade is objectively more useful then a B Grade in their reality. Its a law of reality more fundamental then gravity.

Bookb0y

I am soooo glad it is not Friday.

Thekoopa20

Yes the soul damage came from the skill failing under pressure but it still seems like a round about solution. Maybe no one actually tried applying any energy before but I assume a god or two would have tried just from sheer curiosity on if Jake could also handle it or not, that’s why it feels weird to me that it never happened before

Laura Murphy

I’m so happy it’s a Tuesday and not a Friday my god this would be some cliff hanger

Pekka Kohonen

Yeah, it was not a passive aura but an attack. Of course a max-level strong A-grade can totally crush a low-end B-grade with an aura attack (though Jake probably counts as a mid-B-grade for resistance at least). Jake would be able to crush a (low) C-grade too.

Pekka Kohonen

Like said in the chapter, they don't really understand what Jake is. Or the power-dynamics. But too late now ... snake poop it is. Or Blessed-snake poop more accurately. But Jake deserves a demerit on his diplomacy skills... or maybe he gets a "learn from failure" bonus.

Jeff McCulley

“…a massive, scaled beast ascended towards them” When Villy puts his thumb on the scales, he puts his thumb on the SCALES.

jb qspam

You say that but I remember a legit aura contest between them- and Valdemar saying he lost. Also I’m having trouble with the idea that a passive from three-plus grades higher (Jake was mid-C vs Primordial god) isn’t stronger than an attack from one grade higher (B vs A).

MarineDebris

Jake was trying to use Pride with Invocation at that moment, so his soul was more exposed, and the Horned Slayer had lucky timing. It seems like the equivalent of Jake trying to use his own soul attack at the same time on a being much more powerful.

Xerecs

Book announcements for today's chapters.

Michael Katz

Tyfc also…. I cant wait till tomorrow

Sean McClain

Both sides are working at an information deficit. One side thinks there is no possible way anyone would consider a collection of A Grades would be more valuable then a B Grade and the other side thinks there is no one stupid enough to deliberately piss off the apex god of destruction of the mulitverse by killing his prophet (and best friend).

Caldrarin

Just damn, I love this series. Villy won't let Jake die easily, nor will his bloodline.

Benjamin Mages

I don't really get their long term plan. If they start at "1" where they have no guarantees Jake will help them but he at least says he will, killing him for being uncooperative is not only putting them at "0" it's putting them below it. Even if they were correct about him not being that important in the grand scheme of things, they don't gain anything by killing him. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I don't understand why they're adopting a sign or die even with their mistaken assumptions.

Ra

Even if the sea serpent didn't show up, Jake could easily destroy the minor world, even if he can't defeat the A grades.

Rewdan

Zogarth you absolutely beauty

Ra

I think it's also a soul attack infused with an aura. Like folks said, Valdemar never tried to infuse anything other than a pure aura. If Gods have to rely on anything other than their aura to beat a lower grader, then they've lost already.

Rewdan

At least it’s not Friday

Rewdan

No oil not going to happen 😆😆😆

Hornbach

Because they asume nobody would choose fighting and dying over signing a contract.

definitelynotbrjenness

UN officially denounces Denmarks use of cliffhangers of mass destruction calling it a malefic act.

KingGoomba

They don’t lose anything by killing him either with that logic. They are completely ignorant about the multiverse and view themselves as the top dogs even if they know something stronger is out there, they feel they can be that by the time they can get out

Benjamin Mages

But like... that doesn't actually matter when it's clear that he's refusing to sign the contract? It's insanely heavy handed for something that doesn't get them anything. I mean, if he signed the contract it'd get them something, but this is just pissing them off. Heck, even if he did sign it, it expires; then he'd be free to screw them over immediately afterwards in retaliation.

Rewdan

I love the fact that Jake was ready to go out swinging activating his bloodline to at least damage an a grade

Benjamin Mages

No they do lose something by killing him, they lose at least a little bit of goodwill, and every bit lost increases the chance they'll be strong-armed once the universe opens up. Also you're wrong, they're presumably just uninformed and not stupid so they don't think they can reach those levels of power in around 1000 years, when they were told it'd open up. They haven't gotten further than their current level in far longer than that.

Seen Death

The whole "jake has a strong aura" has basically been a gentlemans agreement on the contests. Pure aura (no power) jakes is stronger than valdemar But there is no gentlemans agreement with the parties present- they care more about actual power, not respecting aura itsself. Its like artemis being able to shoot an arrow at light speed with no impact Thats the entirety of jakes auras strength currently But the contestants here only care how hard that arrow lands

Vega

I was talking about Jake’s decisions/actions when he was testing the border with the B-Grade natives to the 93rd Universe. At the time, he didn’t know that the factions would turn on him yet, so he wouldn’t be thinking of revenge. He also didn’t know Villy had helped him take countermeasures, so he wouldn’t know that he could act carelessly as the Serpent would have his back. I’m saying that he should have taken Villy’s advice. It makes sense that Villy’s so ruthless about “playing it safe” too; Jake’s essentially going about his adventures with a Primordial safety net, whilst Villy honed his instincts with none. If Villy had been as kind as Jake, and been as willing to believe in the good of people as Jake has been so far, he never would’ve survived long enough to be a god.

beeve

I mean he brought the factions together… he made some mistakes but not an all around failure

Kevin Watson

jake has been able to give blessings up to a certain level for a while now, it’s not a low level either, he just doesn’t use the skill

R Mac

I’m reading defiance of the fall in addition to this. It’s interesting comparing Zac Atwood’s attitude of trusting nobody and always being on edge compared to Jakes attitude of “let’s all just get along and do what I say bc I said so”

Carl Never

Valdemar didnt use any energy he just used aura so no willpower to crush him just the idea of how strong he is. The frog used strength

beeve

Shit so no more this week?

Carl Never

Well that was an exciting chapter. Jake could probably make him bleed. I vote we make a plauge

Exaiter

Sacrifice the entire world, yes yes, very good

Josie

Toad: "No higher being will care about some B grade's death" Reality: all the gods want dat Jake Juice 🍾

Josie

Time to put on your game face, Jake "You called it mercy. And you're right, I was being merciful. But.." touches the blood on his face as the serpentine aura draws near, "Your world is not fit to 'negotiate' with the Malefic Viper. And he is not known for mercy." 🐸 🪦 🕷 🪦 💀 🪦

Bob Fight

Hey just thought of this but would this even have happened without the viper’s intervention like think about it when Chris died to ell hacken Jake knew literal days in advance that something was wrong yet here he walked into a trap so if the malefic viper didn’t plan on saving him would he have felt something was wrong and not gone back in

Kota

Not sure that would have made a difference. At this point he just believes Jake to be delusional about his own value to his faction, which a lie detector won't be able to discern from actual truth.

A

This was such a great chapter! Can’t wait for tomorrow.

Brian

Why do I feel like I’m gonna rage tomorrow because Zogarth posts a Miranda chapter…

D3monEmper0r

I hope at least the B grades Jake allowed access to the 93 will be fine after this so they can explore and get back to the survivors to tell them how much they fucked up...

RonGAR

Had a feeling that was going to be the ending...

Xerecs

No idea.

Xerecs

God I hope he does. But I'll repost this again as my original post has been buried. Zog posted in his book announcement post for the day this message. "So, imma just warn you all... quite busy these days with new house and stuff, so expect there may be a few days without chapters."

CallHimDan

I greet the Chosen of the Malefic One

RunnerRunner

The world's Serpent got a direct blessing from villy.

Lemonsqueezy

Couple things: I didn't even consider the Frogs aligning with the United Tribes, it is actually more fitting that the PoL. We all guessed right with the Serpent arriving to save the day. I am assuming it got a blessing and the knowledge associated with blessings because Villy can now directly talk to it, and who Jake truly is and what his blessing of being a Chosen means for these beings if they kill or harm him. I think these A-Grades are about to get a hard lesson on what the multiverse really is, and how unfathomably weak they are. That they really do not have any say so whatsoever on what becomes of their world and people. Without aligning to a powerful faction of one of the Primordials they are destined to be enslaved or killed. There is no chance of prosperity if you try to stay independent. I also like that Zog put in the fact that a very angry Artemis would come to bestow death and destruction to them all. I was very wrong last chapter in thinking that all of this was the Horned Slayer's idea, it turned out that they were all in cahoots. With the (probable) Sea Serpent coming to save Jake, these actions do not bode well for the other factions. If it were me I just would refuse to ever bring any of them out anymore. I would only escort the Snakes out at this point and the rest of them can just wait thousands upon thousands of years for the boundary to fully drop. All the while the Snake faction would just become overwhelmingly more powerful than the other two, and never have the chance of catching up. Thus making them live under the rule of the Snakes, who in turn is under the rule of the Order and in turn Jake. Ultimately, this path would force them into complete subservience of Jake. Think about the future. These A-Grades tried to press-gang Jake into a soul contract. Then the Horned-Slayer caused Jake soul damage. This is a crime punishable by death if Villy has a say. Which it is entirely probable that if the Serpent got a blessing, his orders from Villy might be to kill any who tried to harm his Chosen. Meaning the Lich, Horned Slayer, Oracle, and Nest Mother and any of the others that were not named. Unless of course Jake manages to convince Villy not to do it, and show how powerful he is regardless of his grade. Jake is pissed at this point, and we all know people tend to die when Jake is pissed. Ultimately, IMO, the Horned Slayer needs to die, and probably the Lich as well. I could definitely see Jake approving of that. This week has already been filled with cliffhangers, luckily they haven't happened on a Friday. Unfortunately, I read these early in the morning so I have to wait nearly 24 hours to read the next chapter anyway.

Lemonsqueezy

Sorry for the length of that. I cannot help myself and end up writing my own book of just comments.

Lemonsqueezy

That story is great, but gets REALLY dragged out around book 10. My ADHD just couldn't cope and I had to stop.

Lemonsqueezy

Yeah, all of the other gods are really interested in Jake. However, some of them probably wouldn't mind to see him killed. It would open up the 93rd for one of their blessed to become the new strongest in the multiverse. However, too many of the most powerful gods do not want that to happen and would seek revenge. Valdemar, Villy, Artermis, Yggdrasil, Endless Empire, Oras, and maybe even the Blightfather would definitely not be very happy about it.

Lemonsqueezy

I am still doubting it made S-Grade in such a sort time after probably getting a blessing. However, it might explain why its arrival is so late and why its power was felt as, and I quote "its aura overshadowing every other A-grade present."

Lemonsqueezy

Like Freeza trying to destroy Namek.

Lemonsqueezy

Fuck I hope not. That would be a real big asshole move by Zog.

Lemonsqueezy

Could be the bog-lord, but it is more likely to be the Great Sea Serpent. The bog-lords introduced at the beginning seem to be "unintelligent" beasts. Doesn't stop Villy from doing something to influence the beast of course. I am fully expecting an intelligent being to be the one that entered, which is pointing me towards the Sea Serpent leader of the snakes.

Bruce Loomis

If he had just said he was villy's son, this wouldn't have happened 😭

CocoaBleu

I didn’t even think about Jake’s harvenger title… after this they are gonna have to beg to be admitted in to a faction… that is if any of them survive their actions. 😂

Lemonsqueezy

I am also thinking that that is about to happen. I believe that Villy probably just ordered this powerful serpent to give punishment in his name to those that tried to harm/kill his Chosen. It might be all of them for their role/approval of the actions taken, or just the Horned Slayer and the Lich for their direct roles. I could see Villy wanting death for them all and Jake talking him down to just the two I mentioned. As a way to show the rest that Jake isn't to be messed with and they should get on their preverbal knees and beg Jake for mercy.

definitelynotbrjenness

oh no. do u dare hit see more after seeing squeeze apologized for it bring so long? if course I do, got a long boring walk coming up in a few minutes.

Undeadviewer

Pretty sure that was because the system was protecting him from all damage.

Jimbo

Jake can't let them walk away after attacking him

NovaZero

Thank Villy it's not Friday.

Lemonsqueezy

Even if they are not killed now, I fully expect them to face consequences of their actions once they do escape. Once the Horned Slayer leaves the minor world he would still be protected as long as he stays in the 93rd. At least for awhile, because how I understand it, the 93rd will eventually be completely opened up for all grades regardless on the power level of its natives. Jake might be his eventual demise when Jake returns as an A-Grade to seek revenge, or the Horned Slayer will venture out into the multiverse and be immediately destroyed by Villy or the Order. I am sure the entire order will want to be the one that killed the Horned Slayer for what he did to Jake as a way to get into favor of him and Villy.

KingGoomba

I am saying is that it’s understandable to believe when they are allowed to leave the minor world, they would be stronger then those before those that can come, so by the time those that are stronger the them finally can they would be just as strong. It’s not an accurate assessment but I’m saying it makes sense

Lemonsqueezy

I predict that quite a few of these A-Grades are about to be killed or at least severely punished for their actions. I would at least like to see the Horned Slayer killed, throwing the Lich in as well would make me happy.

Lemonsqueezy

Yeah these A-Grades will probably never see S-Grade and probably never even leave the boundary.

Bruce Loomis

It could've already been a pinnacle A grade, in which case a divine blessing would absolutely be the push needed for an attempt at S grade. Still not probable, but very possible. Excited to see what happens!

Benjamin Mages

No that makes no sense, it's not understandable. These guys have been stalling for who knows how many thousands of years. They were just told that not only is there a rank above A, there are powers above that. Unless they all just collectively go "naaaah, he was exaggerating" there's no way they'll think a mere 1000 years is enough to suddenly jump up that much in strength. If they genuinely believed that was possible, they probably wouldn't even be bothering trying to strong arm Jake like this. They're doing it because they feel backed into a corner.

Bruce Loomis

Agreed! Though I think Jake might be more forgiving.. it seemed to me like it wasn't actual *permanent* soul damage but more like what he experiences after using gaze for too long. Hopefully.

Lemonsqueezy

I think it is more to do with aura and killing intent like others have mentioned. Jake can ignore passive aura, and can fight against flared or pushed aura. However, once killing intent is added or the aura push becomes an attack, Jake can be harmed. I also think that in this situation Jake was not prepared for the attack. If time went on we might have seen Jake go all out and push back on the A-Grade causing harm to it, but also causing significant harm to himself and maybe even dying in the process.

Episode 19

villy coming in clutch (ie the Snake Boss in this Minor World) tyftc

Lemonsqueezy

Yeah, and I think the Sea Serpent is about to bestow a lot of education on these A-Grades on who Jake is and what will become of their entire world if they harm him and definitely if they kill him. There are fates worse than death in the multiverse, and I am sure Villy and his Order have some very painful ways to torture people for eternity.

Zachary Waldrop

I ended up getting the Patreon after catching up with what was on royal road got me super impatient I was so happy to find more chapters I used to wait on the audio books lol

Zachary Waldrop

I am ready for Villy to show these a grades the error of their ways

Lemonsqueezy

The factor in the fact that when it comes to the multiverse there are probably billions of A-Grades and they really are not that important. You really do not become important until you reach godhood, and even then low level gods are a dime a dozen in the multiverse. What really matters in the multiverse is who you know, who backs you, and who are your allies. Even a D-Grade (in Jake's case) is more powerful than Gods purely because of his connection with Villy. An attack on Jake is an attack on Villy and that alone instills enough fear into even the more powerful to be respectful of a Primordial's Chosen. Then you have the whole taboo and unspoken law of higher grades killing lower grades unprovoked (meaning they start the fight). Mostly because doing so give no experience or advancement. It is the reason that that True Dragon (cannot remember her name) was chosen to be killed and the contract given to Jake.

JohnSnowden

Ayyyy same same. Too many things happening all at once.

definitelynotbrjenness

I've been assuming jake would suggest that those not specifically interested in alchemy at least learn about the other factions before making a choice.

Lemonsqueezy

I am thinking the Sea Serpent most definitely got a blessing. Whether it reached S-Grade or not is in the air (probably considering that last sentence "scaled beast ascended towards them, its aura overshadowing every other A-grade present"). Even if the Serpent didn't reach S-Grade the records given to him from a blessing would have given significant boosts to its power, especially if it is a Devine blessing. The blessing would also enable Villy to directly communicate with the Serpent and allow it to fully understand who Jake is and what it would mean for their minor world if he is harmed or killed. Villy can also "possess" those that he has blessed. This would mean that this Serpent would enable Villy to show everyone who his is and how powerful he is and exactly what is going to happen if the continue on their path.

Rahsheem Reid

Wooooooop. Now let’s really talk.

Rodney

Oh I fully expect someone from the order to eliminate them who disrespected Jake just on principle or someone from the fanatical church to be like "how dare you disrespected primordials chosen like that he might have let you go but I'm not" you know something like that lol

Lemonsqueezy

Probably all of these A-Grades that think they are high and mighty, but if not all of them definitely the Horned Slayer and the Lich for their direct actions. I would be satisfied with the latter, leaving the Oracle and Nestmother alive would be a good way for the message of "dont fuck with Jake and do what he says" to be distributed throughout the world.

Lemonsqueezy

I think Villy already gave that Snake a blessing and told it to go lay the smack down and save Jake. I think Jake is going to end up giving a small blessing to the Shaman and the Archweaver once things settle down. This would enable each faction to have a person that can inform the rest of their people about what it all means. The only thing that I have against this is the fact that if they are blessed by Jake it kind of brings them into the Order itself. They could always denounce the blessing with some backlash, and it isn't exactly unheard of for a member of one faction to have a blessing from a different one since blessings are more about being aligned with your path rather than your "dogma".

SqrlyGrly

And now you get to wait with the rest of us!

Jacob santos

I don’t think it’s the same, with Valdemar it was just a c*ck fight with aura. This time Jake tried to activate a skill and the A-grade flared his Aura in a combative way which caused Jake’s skill to be broken involuntarily, which causes backlash.

Lemonsqueezy

It is diplomacy, technically Jake is getting this world to be peaceful with each other in a way. In this case they are doing so only to combat what Jake can do. However, diplomacy really isn't something Jake's path has. That is what he has Miranda for. I do not even think Jake gets experience for diplomacy, at least not in a significant way. He only really gets any experience when his diplomatic actions benefit the Order in some way. If he gets all of these factions to fall under the Order he will definitely get experience. Hell, if he gets them to align with the Risen and United Tribes and that then gets those factions to ally with Jake and the Order or at least enables a favor owed, that would also probably give Jake experience. Miranda, however, will probably get a lot of experience once she gets involved and sets forth rules that the minor world has to obey to exist where they are.

CSE1234

His bloodline not warning him away from trying to mess with palate is itself an inconsistant failure on its part. For the last sentance are you saying that whether or not theres an "out" so to speak can affect his bloodlines ability to detect danger? Also as a side point being able to predict that your parents are gonna crash their car if they leave at a certain time is kind of a crazy feat, surely predicting the A grades turning on him is lesser in terms of difficulty to intuit. Also jake can 100% predict things that dont have anything to do with life and death and only damage. Example being dodging attacks that wont kill him but will hurt, the minaga labrynth teleporters, etc.

Lemonsqueezy

If the snek got a blessing this would enable Villy to talk directly to it. It would also enable Villy to "possess" the snek directly. We could see Villy directly talking to these A-Grades next chapter, and probably (and I am hoping) killing the Horned Slayer and the Lich for their transgressions.

I think that big snake is going to try to or offer to kill the horned frog but Jake is going to say no so that he can hunt him later and make him his first A grade kill

Lemonsqueezy

Well there are about 2 more months left until phase 2 starts for SoTEP. I really wouldn't expect to read much about Miranda's adventures. We will probably get 1/2 a chapter about what happened rather than a full POV chapter or two.

Abhishek

Jake getting bit*h slapped. Love it! Man’s been slacking. Relying on primordial daddy.

Salientmind

I feel like the minor world has to feel some real pain first. I could see Villy being like "My chosen is kinder than I am."

Lemonsqueezy

Oh definitely, but I really like how Zog is making Villy not be a "helicopter mom" when it comes to Jake. He really only gets involved when the situation becomes life or death for Jake. Specifically when said scenarios involve beings significantly more powerful than Jake are involved. Jake already told Villy to stay out of it if the fight is on equal ground.

Lemonsqueezy

At least it is only Tuesday. Zog could make the rest of this weeks chapters be about Miranda or something else going on in the multiverse and really fuck us over. Imagine having to wait until next Monday before we find out what is going to happen.

NovaZero

Eliminated to make sure they don't ruin their fanfic would be hilarious

Lucas Fialho

The frogs could at least try to persuade their leaders... The arachnech at least have an excuse for being a hive like society, but the frogs posed as having some morals, and jake risked his own life to save their people.

Lemonsqueezy

Well if VIlly blessed the Snek, that would mean Villy can talk directly to it. He can also possess creatures that he has blessed. So we could have an instance where Villy is about to appear in "person" and let these A-Grades know what they have to look forward to if they continue to act up. Either way, these beings are about to be given a "The Multiverse and What a Chosen is" 101 course. I also think that at least some of these A-Grades are about to learn a very hard, deadly, and/or painful lesson. I really want the Horned Slayer to be killed, maybe even the Lich. Then the rest of them getting a preverbal bitch slap.

Lemonsqueezy

I think the Oracle and Nestmother will be spared, mostly as a way for the message to be passed on to others. Killing the Lich and Horned Slayer for their actions is a must, and definitely a way to send a message. Considering each of them are a strong fighter from their respective factions, and they are the two that had direct actions and disrespected the Chosen of a Primordial.

Lemonsqueezy

Horned Slayer definitely needs to die or I will be upset. Lich should go too. Each of them are their respective faction's strongest fighters and their deaths would send a very strong lesson.

Lemonsqueezy

It really is only restricted to the god knowing a beings existence. Through Jake, Villy is now aware of every being on the minor world and can therefor give a blessing to them. Blessings are a contract, so they have to be accepted by the person being blessed. They cannot be forced, and they can always be relinquished by either party whenever they want. Of course relinquishing a blessing after you got one causes backlash to the blessed and the blesser. The higher the blessing the bigger the backlash. You also are forever marked as being a Heretic, which is frowned upon in the multiverse and can ruin your chances of getting another one.

Jip

Big bad snakey sent smaller bad snakey to help his little jakey. Nice.

Pekka Kohonen

I would say that Jake has to bless him. That is because Villy said in his monologue that he will make it a show. Meaning he has not done it yet. But the big snake is one of 3 strongest beings. But for a cliff hanger, the mysterious third strong being might still show up.

Pekka Kohonen

I think not. He said in his monologue that he WILL make it a show.

Jason Connors

Is it going to be the Great Sea Snake we heard about? Or is it Villy himself since minor worlds exist in the void? I could see Villy getting annoyed with these upstart A grades bullying his poor little B grade chosen.

Pekka Kohonen

I think Villy contacted the Big Snake himself. And made him a “deal he could not refuse”, or would not want to in any case.

Lemonsqueezy

I do not expect the Lich or Horned Slayer to live long enough to even escape the boundary, much less make it to S-Grade. Even if they do, I doubt they would live long if they ever venture out of the 93rd. They are going to have kill on sight contracts by the Order. Even if Villy doesn't do it himself, I am sure other members of the Order would do it as a way to get in to favor with Villy and Jake. I can also see the Oracle and Nest Mother having issues making it anywhere in the multiverse for approving the actions of the other two. They might not be killed outright, but they will definitely get unfavorable treatment. Jake might not even bring them out of the boundary once he would be able to. They will probably have to wait for the boundary to open naturally, which would put them severely behind everyone else that wasn't involved in what happened in this chapter. The Shaman and Archweaver were not involved in this betrayal, so I can see Jake giving them each a blessing and they would eventually surpass their leaders, while the Oracle and Nest Mother fall into unimportance. I could even see them ultimately being shunned by prospective other factions (Risen and United Tribes) for what they did as a way for those factions to not be treated in a negative light by the Order. The Order controls the best (and probably only) school in the Multiverse and losing rights to sending its people there is definitely a detriment.

Lemonsqueezy

I thought blessing could just be given regardless of contact. I think maybe a Chosen blessing has to be in person, but the rest of them just require the god to be aware of the person to give a blessing. I think this is the case because gods give out thousands if not millions of blessings to people and it would be weird if the god had to touch each one of them to do so.

Lemonsqueezy

Oh he definitely is going to almost immediately forget. He will remember what happened, but he is definitely going to forget the lesson. He has already been in situations similar to this before.

Lemonsqueezy

It was a rushed decision. They were told exactly what the consequences would be and chose to ignore it completely because Jake is a new B-Grade. Jake was saved by this snek, but in turn this entire minor world was also just saved from doing something so monumentally stupid that it would have caused them to become extinct.

Yvng Dante

Not particularly, Jake hardly does stuff with the vipers help unless it is truly out of his capabilities. In this particular situation there is literally nothing he could have done here unless he was either peak B-grade to escape; or A-grade to fight back, and both of those are expectations that would have been impossible under the timeline given.

Lemonsqueezy

It is personal power. So ultimately, can Jake defeat the being in a fight? In that sense the answer is a definitive no. There is also the level and grade restrictions on the 93rd as a whole. A-Grades cannot enter the 93rd yet.

definitelynotbrjenness

I started RR when the one book ended with them jumping into nevermore. came here when nevermore didn't finish on RR and have been stuck ever since.

Lemonsqueezy

I can understand the decision they made, but it all relied on Jake actually signing that contract and dooming his people. They pretty much went hell or high water here. It either worked and they were safe (in their minds), or it didn't and they were stuck and probably destroyed later. The chose death over submission and thought it would work, now they have put themselves in an even worse situation. Which I am expecting them to find out in the next chapter or two. They are about to realize that they probably just doomed their factions into stagnating until the boundary naturally falls, and by that point they will no longer be powerful in comparison. Meanwhile, the snek faction is about to reap all of the benefits of treating Jake with respect. They will also be brought into the Order, which is in control of the Milky Way by proxy of Jake. Ultimately, they are going to become the defacto leaders of this minor world while the other two become vassals.

Seen Death

Its ignorance mainly They cant even comprehend gods yet, let alone what blessings mean They dont even know what enlightened species are, offering jake an ideal environment to grow in a location that would only benefit monsters They cant even comprehend an entirely different system of living, let alone gods Besides, if it was a lesser god that blessed jake they probably would have been successful... for a time atleast I doubt Artemis, who is now a godqueen could do very much in this scenerio Being all about archery on a world that hasnt discovered a bow would leave her relatively no options to intervene immediately Jake is just lucky AF there are snakes basically everywhere lol, and the top snake on this planet is top 3 powerhouses

Lemonsqueezy

I am leaning towards the Lich and Horned Slayer being killed, because their continued existence will be a consistent threat to Jake when he is on the minor world. They are also just the powerful fighters from each faction and probably not decision makers. Then the Oracle and Nest Mother getting a reality check and a very strong lesson to pass on to the other members of their faction. The fight will will probably mean the deaths of several lower grades, but if this snek is an S-Grade there might not be.

Yvng Dante

I’m actually begging that Zog doesn’t decide to pivot to a different POV because if he does the suspense will legitimately bother me enough to slow down me accomplishing anything else. On another note though, I hope Jake tosses the nice guy act immediately and forces the worst deal possible for everyone here because this was a dick move that is outlandishly foolish without grasping more information especially when he was being cooperative. Second I hope to god that the snake either kills the Lich and horned slayer, or suppresses them until Jake becomes A grade and can catch that body himself because this was so uncalled for.

Lemonsqueezy

Yeah, but Jake has the backup to act that way. Jake is technically a top dog. Due to being a Chosen he is on paper the second in command of the Order. It was stated by Villy that the decisions of Jake are the decisions of him and should be followed as if Villy made them himself. The problem is that these guys do not know, or more like they do not believe, that this is the case. The do not understand blessings, and do not understand that those blessings mean that regardless of their level or grade the blessed are highly protected by powerful people. The higher the blessing the more protected they are. In the multiverse, Jake is more important to the Order than any other being in the Order, and definitely more important to the Order than any other creature in the multiverse except Villy himself. An attack on a chosen is an attack on the faction itself and is met with some very severe consequences.

Seen Death

I wouldnt really count it as a negative personally In a discussion where power matters most, Jake showed up lacking The locations this scenerio can happen to jake is becomming less frequent though Its extremely unusual (although im sure jake being extremely unusual makes him prone to finding scenerios like this) to have so many A grades cooped up in the same area, no idea what the Order even is to begin with, let alone what it means for Jake as a B grade to actually be ranked #2 in importance in the faction (even gods desiring good relations with Villy dont disrespect Jake- but they do this with knowledge that these Venus dwellers simply dont have)

Lemonsqueezy

Well Jake has never been written as someone that is good with diplomacy, that is what Miranda is for. He is a lone, and very powerful, fighter with a very powerful backing. He is the face and power of the empire, but not the creator of policy he is there to enforce the policy. It is kind of like how governments like the UK are. There is a King, but he is really just the face of the country. His decisions are final, but ultimately he has a committee that makes all the rules.

Lemonsqueezy

Oh definitely. Villy had the snek wait there until it got to the point where Jake had no chance of getting out of the situation and was about to die or get into a dire situation he cannot escape from. Villy likes to teach Jake lessons and let him make his own decisions, and only interferes when he absolutely has to. The delay could also be because the snek got a blessing and then was able to reach S-Grade which takes time.

Seen Death

The gods would have to have a loose contact in some way For example, Villy has basically mentally followed jake inside this world, and his senses are even greater than Jakes bloodline in its ability to comprehend the local happenings because Villy is just stupidly OP. Im pretty sure this process could be started with prayer though. For example if Jake mentions the Blightfather, someone could probably become his believer and receive a blessing, which would increase the Blightfathers ability to be involved in this world But im not entirely sure if thats possible in this particular minor world

Lemonsqueezy

I think it is more of the case that they just didn't believe what Jake said. He gave them enough information for them to be cautious and work peacefully with Jake, but they just didn't want to believe it. It is kind of like those videos you see where some dude with big muscles get into a ring because they think they can over power anyone with muscles alone, only to get their ass kicked by some 150lb female Mui Thai kickboxer that is like 14 years old.

Lemonsqueezy

There are several types of soul contracts according to the wiki. Blessings are technically soul contracts, as well as soul-bound items, enforced laws (like the Bloodline Accord), slavery contracts, and many others. In some cases only one can exist at a time. Soul-Bound items can only be bound to one person, but that doesn't mean that person cannot have more than one soul-bound item. Things like blessings and slavery contracts are the same. The blessed or slave can only have one, but that doesn't mean someone cannot have more that one slave or bless only one person. Except in the case of a Chosen. There can only ever be one chosen at a time for each god. Soul contracts are just a means to have the system itself enforce an agreement, therefor preventing a person from ever not fulfilling their part of the agreement.

Lemonsqueezy

If Villy blessed the snek, that would mean Villy can communicate directly with it. He can also possess it. So Villy can order the snek to kill every one of these A-Grades or just the Horned Slayer and Lich. Knowing Villy's personality and what he suggested Jake do earlier, it is entirely possible that the snek will just kill everyone there except Jake. Then go and destroy their homes and eradicate all of their people leaving only the snakekin on the minor world. If that is the case, I could see Jake coming in and convincing Villy to maybe limit it to only the A-Grades, or maybe even just the two instigators leaving the Oracle and Nest Mother to pass on a very important lesson to their people.

Lemonsqueezy

Because everyone else really isn't important in the grand scheme. It really doesn't matter what everyone else is doing. Phase two of SoTEP is really the only important phase. The first phase is a bunch of secondary people trying to get into the second phase. I would expect to maybe get a chapter or two where everything that happened is summarized. With Miranda telling Jake what happened after this Venus thing before Jake is whisked off to participate in the event itself.

Lemonsqueezy

I swear if we do not get this situation dealt with before the end of the week I am going to be upset. I should really check on Discord more often. I kind of stopped once Discord started this whole age verification thing. I like my anonymity when it comes to the internet and I am definitely not giving it any of my personal information.

Lemonsqueezy

A couple times. The fight with William in the tutorial where Eversmile interfered. The whole Void situation. Palate being broken. The El'Hakan part where Jake gifts the world core to Villy for help. Some other minor little things where Villy helped him out. This one is definitely one of the situations where Villy had to be a lot more involved and direct with helping Jake for sure. Definitely in the top 3.

Vega

Oh the Valdemar fight was epic. I had a big grin on my face when I read that chapter ending with the heartbeat sounding out across the arena. So pumped

Vega

His Bloodline likely didn’t warn him as the Serpent was clearly on its way, so the danger wasn’t really there

WhiteLeeopard

Nah, at this point he should have the 10 B grades who exited killed to teach them the future of their races just plummeted into the abyss

Lemonsqueezy

In the view of the multiverse, Jake is an infant. He is only around 160 years old now and still has the way of thinking he had before integration. He wants to see the good in everyone, but hasn't completely learned that that isn't possible. Villy on the other hand is probably around a trillion years old, and lived his life in a kill or be killed world. Villy trusts no one, and in any situation that could cause him harm or be negative he just eliminates the potential threat. They are polar opposites in personality in this sense and are teaching each other a different way of thinking. Not that I think Villy will ever change, but I think Jake has definitely brought Villy out of his shell and got him to be a little more trusting of others or at least see the potential of others.

UNKNOWN

Back in the Tutorial the system protected Jake from any and all damage he might've suffered.

Lemonsqueezy

I just treat the story like I would a series on TV or someone I watch on YouTube. It just become part of my daily routine. I also spend several hours commenting and talking with all of you here about what we all think is going to happen. I grew up having to wait a day to watch the next episode of DBZ on Cartoon Network after school each day so this isn't so bad. Especially when you considered the fact the DBZ would have 5-10 new episodes and then start over from the beginning again. It took years before I could watch them all on TV, especially since it was before the time where you could watch everything on the internet as well as the fact that the fastest speeds you could have back then were dial-up.

definitelynotbrjenness

I will actually be serious for a second. the "stupidity" of the a grades is from underestimating jake's value. 1. no faction is going to turn down a grades because they killed a single b grade. 2. b grades will know this and take your threats seriously, so you can bully them into signing the contract. 3. the only thing villy would have done differently from them is make sure he has all the info and an escape plan before he let his true feelings be known.

Lemonsqueezy

So I think that it might not have warned him because there wasn't any original danger coming from the A-Grades. They thought that Jake would just sign the contract without issue. So they were not giving out any signals of attacking Jake at the time. The danger didn't come until Jake refused and flared his aura. At this point the Horned Slayer attacked Jake. Jake's bloodline is overpowered, but it is still limited to B-Grade. A-Grades like the Horned Slayer just move too fast for Jake and his bloodline to react. Jake's bloodline only activates when danger is imminent, there has to some sort of killing intent. The difference in power is just too overwhelming for Jake's bloodline to be effective. Not that he could have done much at that point anyway because Jake was too close to everyone.

Lemonsqueezy

IDK. If Villy blessed this snake, that means he can talk to it and order it to just kill them outright. Villy can also possess people he blesses, so we could have a situation tomorrow where Villy himself is there to wreak havoc on these A-Grades. Especially with that last sentence "scaled beast ascended towards them, its aura overshadowing every other A-grade present." Villy is not forgiving and has already stated that if it was him he would just annihilate everyone and everything there. This could be Villy himself flaring his god aura, but I would assume Jake would immediately recognize that.

Lemonsqueezy

At this point we may be seeing a lot of death and the end to any chance of diplomacy for the other two factions. Their actions here could mean that they never get to leave their world, even after the boundary drops they could be restricted to the minor world for eternity and any who try to leave (except the snakes) will be killed on site. When Jake gets pissed he tends to do some very mean things to those that tried to harm him or his friends. I like to say, "uh oh, Jake is pulling a Villy".

Lemonsqueezy

It is definitely temporary. Permanently harming Jake would not be beneficial for the factions if they want to ever get more powerful people off the minor world.

Kimesh

I thought they would imprision Jake right away and "help" him increase his power, but the Soulcontract makes more sense, as he could just slaughter whomever he bringst out otherwise as he needs to be stronger.

Lemonsqueezy

The Horned Slayer and Lich cannot remain, they pose a permanent threat to Jake and his Kingdom. Jake would never feel safe to return to this minor world with them around. I think their deaths would be a good way to teach a lesson to the Oracle and the Nest Mother and get them to do what Jake wants them to do. My best guess is Villy wants the snake to kill all the A-Grades, and Jake is going to talk him down to just killing the Horned Slayer and the Lich.

Kimesh

Side question to this: Would such a Contract even work on Jake? The Companionoath works, but you can not enslave someone with a Bloodline. This contract seems to stepdances on this line.

Lemonsqueezy

The problem is not only my ADHD, but also that my profession is writing. It isn't novels that I write though. I write intelligence reports and such for the DoD and they require long explanations. You have to cover all questions and concerns in them as well as provide as much information as you have. That is why if you look into any US military doctrine or SOPs, they are usually hundreds of pages long.

Kimesh

I am enjoying this ark quite a bit 😄

Lemonsqueezy

It isn't that you can't do it, it was done with El'Hakan and the Holy Church. Jake's bloodline would definitely throw a fit if Jake tried, but I think Jake has the capability of ignoring his bloodline. So if Jake absolutely wanted to sign the contract he could, but that would never happen because of Jake's personality. He doesn't want to own or be owned by anyone, and wants it to be the same for everyone else. He doesn't like to be told what he can and cannot do.

Lemonsqueezy

That was my opinion on people saying that. There was no way to prevent Jake from leaving and never returning. With the restriction by the system preventing Jake from taking anyone out that is stronger than him there was no way to use force to make him return. Even if Jake brought thousands of people out, Jake could immediately use wings to disappear and return to Earth and the Order. It would take years upon years for anyone outside of the border to reach Earth and by then Jake would be ready for them and be significantly more powerful. Remember Jake had to be teleported to Venus by Arnold to get there in a reasonable time. Lastly, do the requirement of Jake having to physically bring people out, Jake could just get to the border and run through it and not bring anyone out.

Lemonsqueezy

Someone said that Zog posted on Discord that due to moving we might not have a chapter everyday this week. I haven't checked myself because fuck Discord and their requirement to verify my age. I could definitely seeing these other two factions getting a really shitty deal because of what they did. When Jake gets pissed off there tends to be a massacre that follows. I could see Jake permanently banning the other two factions from every leaving the minor world because of this, or at least imposing a very long lasting punishment until they are allowed to. I also see the Horned Slayer and Lich being executed by the snake, and then Jake only bringing them into the multiverse. Eventually making the other two into vassals of the snakekin and in turn the order.

Lemonsqueezy

Villy could have blessed the snake, and then possessed it to kill off everyone that dared to harm his Chosen. He could have also just blessed the snake, boosted it to S-Grade, and then ordered the snake to do the same thing.

Lemonsqueezy

I started with the audiobooks after reading HWFWM and got into LitRPG. Once I caught up with that I started reading RR. Caught up there and moved to Patreon, then paid for this membership so that I could read even more. I am that impatient. I have now been here for over a year now, and I am still dealing with my impatience, I cannot go back though because then I have to wait months before I get a new chapter to read.

Zachary Waldrop

Trust me, I know I thought about canceling my membership and waiting a few months and then coming back just for my impatience basically the real plan was to listen to the entire audiobook series all the way through and then get it back

Lemonsqueezy

I am expecting the Horned Slayer and Lich to be killed outright by the probably blessed snake that might possibly be an S-Grade because of it. This will be the lesson for the Oracle and the Nest Mother because they would have just lost their strongest fighters. Jake will then discuss with them on who will be their ambassadors for the multiverse and bring them out with no one else getting that privilege. Jake possibly giving a small blessing to one member of each faction. The other option is that the snake is going to go full scorched Earth killing everything involved in the event leaving only the snakes and maybe a handful of members from the other two factions.

Lemonsqueezy

I think killing intent has to be involved. There has to be some sort of threat of life for Jake to sense something. The two factions had no intent on killing Jake, and probably thought he wouldn't have any issue with signing the contract. So there was never any reason for Jake to sense danger, at least not until it was too late. It also stated when Jake was first returning that by the time he realized more A-Grades arrived that it was already too late for him to turn back and escape and if he did they would chase him down before he could.

Lemonsqueezy

Once he split into two people I was pretty much done. The author spends a lot of time just describing the environment, several chapters on skill selection, and he still posts the full stat sheet for the MC. This all got doubled when he split. I was only listening to audiobooks for DoTF and it was just so boring listening to the narrator ramble on about those things. I found myself skipping several chapters because of it.

Lemonsqueezy

I agree that they did what they did because they thought there was no other choice, but thinking that Jake would sign that contract without issue was definitely shortsighted. There is a lot of "I don't believe it" going on with the factions, and it all stemmed from them not understanding what gods, blessed, and Chosen are. It is something that is just unfathomably unbelievable to them. However, I think they are about to quickly find out what is going on and how bad they just fucked up. There is going to be some death and a lot of begging Jake for mercy. And not begging peaceful minded Jake, they are going to be begging a very pissed off Jake. Whose is known to cause extinctions when he gets pissed off.

TwistedVanity

Didn't jakes aura go toe to toe with a Primordial and win in Nevermore? Everyone thought it a draw but the primordial said jake won as he protected arteries as well. Yet here an A grade breaks his skill that's built on his aura????

TwistedVanity

They can do a soul contract on a Bloodline, but due to its prior abuse all factions have deemed it a no no and punish anyone who applies one

Vega

Exactly! So I’m excited to see Jake’s character growth, especially to be more pragmatically ruthless

Coramoor

there was no intent in other contests. Which Jake acknowledges multiple times in the scenes with Valdemar and Yggdraisal

SmokeJam

It was always made clear that Valdemar didn't use a speck of energy, just pure aura. Here it is written clearly that the horny frog actually infused energy into his aura. Against the energy of a high level a grade Jake can't do shit.

Brock

Jake’s political instincts are comically bad.

SmokeJam

While I agree that from our overview perspective this seems uncalled for, you have to consider that these A grades literally know nothing of the outside, only Jakes word. And if you can only paint a limited picture but feel existentially threatened, and that by just a B grade at that, you would fill the knowledge gaps with guesstimates of your own world, maybe be cautious and lean towards worser case scenarios, and suddenly you actually have to act and somehow reverse the position. Just to survive. From their perspective, it made absolute sense and we can armchair criticise

Alex Testa

It was very clear that the primordial didn’t infuse energy into it if he did Jake would be squashed like a bug

SmokeJam

I will never leave this patreon. Zogarth is the only author I know who stubbornly states "there is no schedule", yet keeps posting daily almost always between 1 to 2 pm my time like clockwork. And that for years now. These 15 minutes are usually part of my lunch break and I couldn't be more happy for it. This guy here will get my 10 bucks a month until he completely stops writing or I grow old and blind.

Zachary Waldrop

Oh, I’m not leaving because I don’t like it. It would literally be just so I have something to binge read.

Coramoor

I wonder if his danger sense isn't going off because they don't plan to kill him or because of Villy's backup plan

JW Saxby

🤩👍🏼😁 Tftc 🍻

Daniel

Im glad we are moving at such a fast pace through this soul contract. (It seems pretty dull). I am not even interested in the details if we are not going to spend time circumventing/breaching it. Being honest, I don’t read primal hunter for the contract aspect. (I like it with Villy and his plots, but this doesn’t suit Jake much tbh). (Villy would make an excellent defense attorney lol).

TRando

This chapter was good af! I’m looking forward to tomorrow! Is anyone also reading the WEBTOON? I think it’s a decent adaptation… when is the animation coming out Zog?

Josie

Well you can't be writing too many intelligence reports since you're habitually blowing your working hours in a Patreon comment section.. What a fucking disgusting parasite, leeching off our tax dollars - and shamelessly admitting it to whoever is in here - instead of doing your job. Write about that on your next report.

Lemonsqueezy

Well right now I unemployed because my last contract ended, but my profession is what I said it was. It has been what I have been doing for over 25 years. I am hoping I am hired for this upcoming contract working for the Joint Staff J-7, at that point you won't see me commenting as much. If you do see it it will probably be in the evening after work. You went to immediate hostility without knowing the story, and I didn't think I would have to tell it to prevent someone from being an ass.

Bob Fight

I mean he couldn’t sign the contract period not that they probably know that but the viper said forever ago that soul contracts are essentially binding someone as equipment and because of a bloodline’s uniqueness you can’t ever meet the requirements

beeve

Yeah someone else said that

beeve

And I agree

beeve

Villys back up plan screwed with Jake’s normal senses

beeve

I hate myself everyday for not being able to delay

Josie

For someone who considers all angles, you would know you should have used the past tense regarding your employment. Usually I'm polite, but if you're mystified that taxpayers squint when they here someone volunteer "I'm with the government," then you're just not paying attention. And I'm not being partisan, it's an indictment of both sides of the aisle. Hope you find a job.

definitelynotbrjenness

there have been people reading zog's story almost every second of every day for years now. think about that.

Lemonsqueezy

I am not upset about it, I can see how it can be seen as it being my current job. I would definitely be on your side if someone was spending 3-4 hours a day commenting on Patreon. I wrote it as present tense because it is what I do and have always done for work. My specific skills and US Navy experience pretty much restrict me to being an analyst and report writer for the DoD. Not the most prestigious work, but at least it pays very well. Thank you for your good wishes on me getting a new job.

CT

- who is that ? - It looks like backup plan of Villy with THE STEEL CHAIR!

Justin

Of course Villy Blessed the Baddest Mofo on the Planet as Insurance. (Well my speculation)

Lucas Fialho

Also, being a snake it may follow villy by stinct, like scarlet did. Serving under villy is already a good deal, the information, the records, everything no one in this minor world have, if this snake didnt become S grade by villy blessing right now, it have a huge advantage to become the first one there Also the odds are villy may have means to stabilish a portal to travel between the order and the minor world as it is isolated from 93 universe. Just because frogs and undead spiders dont wanna to serve under a faction, it doesnt means the other factions dont. Some may understand that the first one to get a huge backer will benefit most

joker ledger

Not being good at st isnt an excuse not to learn or gain some experience. Jake has made no attempt to get better at reading the situation or social cues, only try to get by. It works if he is the one with the power but here, he lack both actual power and connection power, not realizing that, like the natives he made bad choice after bad choice like villy said. This situation make it clear he doesnt always get away with not knowing how to do diplomacy

Lucas Fialho

I think its easier to reach someone when you know where to look. After his chosen being in this minor world i think villy could scan for beings compatible with his records or something like this.

i'm reading the free version. he returned from getting half his body blown off by the shroom and miranda was dealing with the phony religion. I went looking for that because I couldn't remember how jake handled it, but I think they condensed because in book 2? when jake returned from getting butt kicked it was just hank and kids. but that may not be the same fight.

Lucas Fialho

Jake got his chance of turning this world associate to 93 universe and earth peacefully, i think villy will claim this world to the order and put the snake in the command as he had to save jake ass this time lol

Late Night Decaf

And though we don't know how the level cap in the minor world works... a blessing may have been enough for an evolution.

J

I did hwfwm audio book. Then found RR and then caved to Patreon. Prob spend like 200-300 each series a year lol

ZanSanCho

Guys don't forget to go back this story on Backerkit if you havent! We're about 200k away from getting a Zogarth approved "Warning Danger Noodle" STL file and having our very own "Jake's most hated statue" 🤣

Lucas Fialho

The first season is just awful. The second season is waaaay better

TRando

Oh it was condensed for sure lol same with the Minotaur mind chief 🤷‍♂️ still cool that it’s being adapted tho I think

Deborah

Am I the only one who is curios what would happen with: 1 soul contract because blood lines can only dominate, 2 will Villy use his undone move on horn venu-whatever for smacking Jake.

JayseKnyte

Giant snake ex machina: I heard you idiots are trying to get us all annihilated in a few thousand years...... could you not?

Patryk

Snake probably got a blessing, I wonder if it allowed him to break through to S-grade (I really wanna see a big fight with the rude guys getting wrecked)

definitelynotbrjenness

I do find it strange when i'm scrolling on my tablet and the picture is like two screens long. i'm like, what the he'll is this formatted for?

JayseKnyte

And horny toad is probably getting eaten for hurting Jake

definitelynotbrjenness

being able to make a stupid theory that gets lemonsqueezy to write a four screen length response that could be summed up as "what the he'll are you talking about jenness" makes the daily drip worth it for me.

Morloc13

End of this chapter or beginning of next needs to have the subtext of the old man saying "It was at this moment the Natives of Venus knew they had Fucked Up"

dithering

The teleport by Arnold was just a lift to quicken the journey by a bit, a B grade could likely traverse Jake's entire solar system within a day or less, villy was able to travel to other solar systems as a B grade

Summer Coff

How exactly has he been slacking

Dead_PC :3

Having a Sugar Daddy does help alot.

Foot of Doom

Big Ol Snek, Big Ol Snek, Big Ol Snek, Big Ol Snek Froggie you’re a boy here the Snek noise, Spooder in the street gonna go ahead and piss off Jake! Mad Ma-lefic Snake, Chosen is Jake, kicking your can all over the place…

Nano

I think villy summoned a clone to help Jake using the blood in Jake’s body

Eden

For thr purpose of making them breed and shit, but if the bloodline person goes out of their way to piss of a faction its free game. Just camt again, force breeding for bloodlines.

Zizawah

I can’t stand that he uses Zac for both human and draugr sides. It’s so awful not being able to figure out who’s who and having to read contextual clues to figure out.

beeve

Hopefully he didn’t evolve cuz then he’ll need to wait a hell of a lot longer to leave

beeve

They should still die

beeve

Fuck em

beeve

Don’t forget the spiders said they would give him a gift for coming back and then they did this… they need to die too

beeve

Also no gift so really fuck em.. oracle should die too

beeve

She’s a shame to her namesake

J

So the fact that several of us called the big snake coming I wonder what the other shoe will be

beeve

I re-listen to the audiobook and read this.. then re-listen again

Zachary Waldrop

Same I think I have listened to them 30 times in the last year is bit more

beeve

lol feisty Josie I love it… im here to escape from all that real world stuff

Spitball

Will Jake be able to recover from the severe soul damage? Is that a major subplot?

beeve

Nah he’ll be fine.. probably not severe enough a good months meditation can’t fix

beeve

Idk he better get some treasures tho from this trip like shit

beeve

One level for all this so far? Come on

beeve

Someone hire a mover or designer or whatever zogarth needs for this new house so he can focus on writing still

beeve

Yeah but they can still join factions while being a part of the order kinda like the rest of the galaxy

beeve

Snake will just represent Jake here while he’s gone

Posiden 300

Villy sent his new pet lol

Dan Greaves

I'd have like to see Jake try and take on the soul contract only for a it to be a battle of soul quality which Jake and his bloodline clearly win (aura battle with Valdemar proving this) then using the lich to defend himself instead of Villy stepping in again)

Abdulaziz ALRumaih

Anybody think Jake will uno reverse the soul contact

beeve

Nah soul contract is null and void cuz he’s not signing it

Abdulaziz ALRumaih

I mean forcing them to sign it Tbh as I think about it more it’s not his style he’d rather kill them

Ray Light

Good reason to visit the gate

Noah Mclelland

I dont see it happening again as its already happened not too far ago

Zogarth

Fix stuff, but report in is right. Indicates he has to show up, while "report to" means it can be done remotely.

Sammot

Oh yeah!! Thatd be good!

Dan Greaves

I grew up in exactly the same era. But my reading has always been unrestrained and I tend to read high fantasy and fiction with huge series to allow myself to become completely immersed in stories. Which is why I love the genre. My normal books are Wheel of TIme or the whole of Brandon Sandersons interconnected books etc. I have more recently found this new treasure trove of LitRPG series (I only discovered them last September and so have essentially binged a huge number of the mainstream ones and ultimately caught up with their publishing schedules) to suddenly be limited to 1 chapter on my off days when previously I'd have read for 4-6 hours and finished an entire book is very, very restrictive for me. But it does mean I'm busy searching out new series now. Still, that doesn't stop me coming back as I'm genuinely hooked on this series. It's been really nice to see how Zogarth has improved as a writer over that time, his first books you could tell he was getting into the swing of things but it's always been held together with fantastic story telling and conceptual oversight. The magic system whilst generic also has its own quirks and is explained further as the characters develop, the use of the First Sage is brilliant to me to create a more unique mystery. This series is one of my all time favourite reads currently and that's saying something.

James Davis

I was thinking if he was forced to sign it he could do something similar to what he did with stormilds contract

Jimmy Howard

I’m confused how Jake’s aura can stand up to a Primordial’s but got crushed by an A grade’s?

Name

Valdemar actively didn't put any energy into his aura when they clashed. Jake mentioned several times that if Valdemar had put any energy into it, he would have been crushed.

Chloe

Auras seem to have Off, On and Energised modes. Just being On is enough to suppress most beings lower ranked than the aura wielder, this is what Jake's bloodline completely suppresses. When it's Energised it is an active conduit for the weilder's energies and, well, an A grade can still squash Jake like a bug.

KyoDaDungeon!!

Finally the slap been a long time coming sad it was from ignorance

Darion

Jake's passivven3ss since the beginning has been disappointing and it feels like his bloodline is both op and yet handicap so as to not cause problems for future matches against others like sword sant and such.

JigglyBear

Thats not true, Valdemar said he lost against Jake when it came to auras back in Nevermore when he went to that viewing room with the other gods
