TV shows about nightmare neighbors had always been one of Jake’s favorites before the integration. He found the drama entertaining, and feeling that “thank fuck I’m not in that situation” always made one feel a little better about one’s life. Especially for Jake, who was quite depressed before the world changed, allowing him to find his true purpose in life.

Back when he watched those shows, Jake always told himself that he would surely never become such a horrible neighbor, no matter how old or jaded he got. He would never be the kind to purposefully make loud noises to piss off everyone nearby, yell out his window for no damn reason, or just make life a living hell for everyone unfortunate to move in next door.

Well... turns out Jake was instead the kind of neighbor who would break into your home and destroy everything while killing anyone in his way because he wanted to take over the property. Calling him a nightmare neighbor felt almost like an understatement, as he was more like an apocalypse neighbor.

With the border into his chosen target open, it hadn’t taken Jake long to cross it, and shortly after doing so, he encountered the first instance of resistance. A defensive tower was placed directly in his way and, partly to test what it was capable of, he didn’t choose to avoid it using stealth or just flying around it.

He felt it lock onto him, and half a second later, a laser beam shot towards him. Jake could easily dodge, but felt no need to as he instead simply kept flying straight towards it. Raising his arm, Jake swatted his hand into the beam while wrapping it in arcane energy, deflecting the attack effortlessly. Another beam came right after, but Jake didn’t even bother to strike this one, as a barrier of stable arcane mana appeared and blocked it easily.

This was definitely one of the unmanned, autonomous towers on the cheaper end. Jake didn’t destroy it, though, but simply kept blocking its attacks as he kept flying until he was out of its range. Destroying it would have been easy, but he knew that if he did so, the Chief Administrator of this Territory would be notified instantly. Meanwhile, if he left it alone, chances were no one would know he’d passed through, as he recalled such a cheap tower didn’t have any innate ability to notify when enemies approached.

Granted, Jake did assume they had an idea he was coming, courtesy of the special Radar construction. It only made sense to build one for every faction, but on the off-chance this Chief Administrator was a moron and hadn’t done so, there was no need to forewarn them of his approach.

Flying a bit further, long out of range of the tower, Jake soon spotted the Territory Beacon location he’d scouted before the event even began in earnest. He also saw that they had bought the special wall structure, creating a see-through barrier covering the Beacon and everyone else inside. As for the Beacon itself, they had also covered it in both physical and magical barriers, just as Miranda had done.

From afar, Jake also confirmed they definitely knew he was approaching. Again, he could have used stealth, but for this very first invasion, Jake wanted to gauge the average strength of these initial defenses to know what to expect moving forward.

He saw several hundred people lining the walls, and a few flying vehicles rose from within the small settlement that had been constructed surrounding the Beacon. He also confirmed something else interesting as he noticed a few figures flying into the air within the barrier.

Not enlightened, huh?

This Territory seemed to be ruled entirely by monsters. Jake knew that was a possibility, but he was still a little surprised, as he fully expected the enlightened to heavily outnumber monsters during this event, with most monsters at least working with the enlightened.

He was also surprised to see so many monsters of varying races, as they tended to suck at working together due to their individualistic nature. That had to mean that either their leader was incredibly powerful and had managed to “tame” all the others, or they had somehow reached an agreement.

To clarify, Jake did see a few enlightened among the monsters, but not even twenty of them, and none looked to be in a position of leadership.

As Jake got ever-closer, he expected some kind of attack against him, but to his surprise, nothing of the sort ever came. Instead, a large winged lion flew out of the barrier and straight for Jake, all while purposefully suppressing its own aura. Meanwhile, Jake had been blasting his from the very beginning with no intent to hide who he was.

When the lion got close, it stopped and lowered its head, speaking in a meek tone. “I greet the Chosen of the Malefic One.”

It wasn’t a surprise for Jake to be recognized, as he was rather recognizable if he said so himself. Still, he’d assumed the other Territories would at least put up a fight and not just come out with their tails between their legs. Quite literally, in the lion’s case.

“An odd form of defense,” Jake commented in a dry voice. “Unless you’re confident in facing me alone?”

Spoiler: The lion was definitely not confident in facing Jake alone. Her aura was far inferior to his, and while she was B-grade, he doubted those within the barrier were too. In the Milky Way Galaxy Territory, the majority were also still at or around peak C-grade, something he reckoned was the case in most places.

“Surely, the Chosen is jesting,” the lion said in a defeated tone. “We are fully aware that challenging you would only end in our inevitable defeat. However, we hope that we can reach an agreement, and are fully willing to become the vassals of-“

“Let me stop you right there,” Jake said, raising a hand. “Nine out of ten Territory Beacons need to go. This is a culling, and unless you can show me why you’re worth making vassals, you will be culled.”

He and Miranda had briefly discussed this, having predicted there would be some way for other factions to surrender. Miranda had been pretty clear that they should avoid making alliances if they could, especially with small forces that weren’t worth their time. This was especially true for their immediate neighbors, as having them only be Vassals was a potential future threat.

While Jake had nothing against making friends, he didn’t feel like he would actually be making friends either if he allowed everyone to simply surrender and become Vassals. If the only reason they became Vassals was due to fear of being eliminated, they would have no loyalty or goodwill towards the Milky Way Galaxy. Given that, wasn’t it only logical that they would find a way to stab Jake and Miranda in the back at the first opportunity?

Considering the dangers of allowing others to simply become Vassals, and the fact that it would mean their area wasn’t added to Jake’s Territory, meaning less PC income, the best choice truly was to just eliminate anyone unless they truly proved themselves worthy of being allies.

And this group was definitely not worthy.

“We will be absolutely loyal, and I swear that-“

“I already told you. Prove you’re worthy,” Jake said, unleashing a bit more of his aura, making the lion fly back slightly, which really wasn’t a good sign. For her, that is.

She looked at Jake for a moment before seemingly sending some telepathic message. This felt more or less confirmed as nearly everyone within the barrier rushed out, all of them flaring their auras as they activated their boosting skills.

There were about three hundred total, with nineteen of them in B-grade. Alongside them were another fifty summoned B-grade NPCs and three flying vehicles with what looked like laser miniguns on them.

A single large tower placed on top of the building to defend the Territory Beacon also turned its turret toward Jake and started charging up a hit. The B-grade lion, which Jake assumed to be the Chief Administrator, also unleashed her own power and activated a boosting skill as her body grew larger and took on a faintly red sheen.

“If you wish to fight, then we will resist with all we have, and we hope the Chosen does not take offense,” the lioness said, not giving Jake any time to respond before she shot forward alongside all the other beasts and the few enlightened.

Jake was heavily outnumbered, facing down nearly seventy B-grades, Territory defenses, and a few hundred peak C-grades... it really wasn’t fair. For them, that is.

Deciding to get rid of the weakest first, Jake activated Arcane Awakening at 30% before also using Sight. Upon doing so, Jake once more glimpsed some odd lines everywhere, but he quickly ignored them as he instead empowered Primal Gaze with Sight.

A claw from the B-grade lioness, only a few meters from him, froze in mid-air, as her soul shook from the impact of Jake’s Gaze. Being the strongest, she was certainly the one who fared the best.

In an instant, the souls of several hundred C-grade Administrators were extinguished, and as they died, their bodies turned into the same blue energy that appeared when an NPC was dismissed, or Jake used Primeval Origin Energy on something.

Alongside all the C-grades, surprisingly, eleven B-grades also instantly died. Four of them amongst the monsters, and seven NPC soldiers. The rest all suffered severe soul damage, with only about ten of his opponents coming out of Jake’s initial attack somewhat okay.

Free of the freezing effect, the lioness moved again as she continued her swipe, likely expecting Jake to dodge. Instead, he merely raised a hand as he caught the large paw before proceeding to use his other hand to punch the leg, feeling bones break from the impact.

The lioness let out a loud roar of pain as other B-grades also descended upon Jake, alongside a rain of pretty cool-looking laser bullets and two laser beams. Jake saw everything approach and let out a small sigh as a katar appeared in both hands.

All the B-grades were upon him, and a moment later, four bodies fell down, turning into blue scattering energy that was gone before they even hit the ground. The others were also injured, and with no time to rest, Jake went on the offensive.

None of them could muster any real resistance as Jake sliced the far weaker B-grades into dozens of pieces in a moment, weaving in between them as he disposed of the NPCs and monsters effortlessly. The sharpness of his new Voidblade Katar was absolutely excellent, and Eternal Hunger was great as always. What’s more, with Fangs of the Malefic Viper, every cut meant a good dose of venom, resulting in Jake not even having to finish off most of his opponents.

Within less than a minute, Jake found himself standing in the air, his hands and arms covered in blood as he turned toward the three surviving monsters, which included the B-grade lioness who had lost a leg and was severely poisoned.

Just then, another barrage of bullets struck him, but Jake didn’t even move as the weak attack failed to penetrate the arcane barrier that popped up between him and the gunships.

“I can at least commend you for trying, and for none of you running away,” Jake said while raising a hand, summoning a few dozen large arcane bolts that proceeded to shoot down the gunships.

“We can only blame our luck...” the lioness muttered, her voice weak as the poison continued to ravage her system. “Now finish it. At least we can be proud to say that we fell to the Chosen of the Malefic One. There is no dishonor in that.”

Jake nodded as he stepped down, appearing in the middle of the surviving B-grades. Four quick cuts later, and four heads were severed; the bodies of the fallen turning into blue wisps of energy moments later.

Letting out a small sigh, not having found that “fight” particularly stimulating, Jake turned his attention toward the Territory Beacon. Through his sphere, he knew there were still living beings within, including a beast in humanoid form inside the building meant to shield the Beacon.

The barrier to defend the settlement was still in place. As for the laser turret that had shot at him a few times, it had already stopped after missing every shot. Whoever controlled it had likely concluded it was just a waste of resources to keep trying.

Whipping out his bow, Jake reckoned he could at least test the durability of the barrier as he took aim. However, to his annoyance, the barrier disappeared right before he could even start charging his Arcane Powershot, and even the structure made around the Beacon started falling apart and turning into blue light, having been dismantled by whoever the Chief Administrator had left in charge. Or maybe the beast in humanoid form was the actual Chief Administrator, and Jake’s assumption that it was the lion had been wrong. Either way, it didn’t matter.

Still charging an Arcane Powershot, Jake instead went directly for the now exposed Territory Beacon. He was preparing to charge another, expecting it to be somewhat durable; however, to his surprise, the entire thing was blasted apart in a single shot.

Right as the Beacon was destroyed, blue light filled Jake’s vision, as everything that had been constructed or perhaps even bought using Prima Credits disappeared alongside the Beacon. After a few seconds, the only thing left remaining was around fifteen people standing on the bare ground. Jake gave them a look, but before he could even do anything, they all decided to blow themselves up, turning into blue wisps in the process.

“Guess they also couldn’t log out,” Jake muttered, having quickly checked his own status menu to confirm that the ability to exit the simulation had been locked during combat. Probably for the best, as it would suck fighting people only to have them log out halfway through.

Jake also saw that he’d gotten a system message, informing him of his success.

Territory Beacon destroyed. The area previously under the control of the Beacon will gradually be integrated with your Territory, and will be fully claimed in: 70:22:39.

He raised an eyebrow at seeing that it would apparently take time to integrate the area. What’s more, the seemingly incredibly random time of about seventy and a half hours made Jake believe that integration time depended on the size of the Territory claimed.

Either way, he would neither confirm nor deny how this timer worked with one sample size, as Jake turned toward the neighboring Territory. Deactivating his Arcane Awakening, Jake didn’t even have a period of weakness as he’d only used the weak balanced version, allowing him to shoot into the distance toward his next target.

He was planning on doing a clean sweep of all neighboring Territories within the day, if possible. Of course, he wouldn’t do this entirely alone, as he wasn’t the only one from his Territory who was on the hunt, with William leading a second team who’d also started their attacks.

While William wasn’t as powerful as Jake, he was still more than capable of handling foes at the level Jake had encountered. Plus, he also had help while Jake was solo. What’s more, the wyvern had set out, feeling closer than ever to his evolution, so there was a good shot that they would soon have a True Dragon on their side.

Jake still felt a little bad for all the Territories unlucky enough to find the Milky Way Galaxy their neighbor... but hey, at least they were polite enough to make their destruction fast and painless... which probably still put them firmly in the category of nightmare neighbor...

Great chapter, love the system events

Sayjinlord

Yeap, that went about as I expected it to go. Thanks for the chapter.

Jasper

Damn I don't know why I didn't really fully realize that the Milky Way was going to have an actual dragon on their team. How many True B grade dragons even exist in the current universe? I'm sure the dragonflights have some presence in the new universe but it isn't clear how many have even evolved yet. There's probably a few, but the Frostpeak Wyvern is probably the one with the best blessing and foundation into True Dragonhood.

Admiral Dakbar

This is going to be fun, I’m hoping the holy church is going to try take out Jake only for some surprise back up from the endless empire, undead or pantheon of life. Really looking forward to this event kicking off

Unwillingmainer

It going to be interesting to see how things go once all the weaker galaxies are taken out or over. I suspect the power houses weren't put near each other so it might take a while for them to meet. Then this universe is going to get a good look at multiverse style warfare.

Den

Primal Gaze is Jake's version of the dwarven headbutt

Eden

Yeah, if you cant show yourself being top 10 potential, not gonna be helpful as a vassal

Fyrtue

There's at least Aishalstromoz from Regal flight and I imagine she has a posse of other dragons with her. I'm hoping Jake gives the wyvern a pep talk to trigger his evolution sharing bits of Villy's path to B grade as they're pretty similar all around (weak snake/chameleon turned wyvern that struggles with the last step to becoming a dragon).

Dragon

Frost peak wyvern will probably be the first evolved true dragon.

Fervent Fiend

Just waiting for Jake to accidentally boost his perception so high he sees through the simulation.

Fervent Fiend

An epic fight of good guys versus bad guys, where as long as you don’t think too hard about all the morally suspect things everyone is doing there might actually be a “good guy”

Vega

Ngl I chortled when I read the chapter name. Thanks for the chapter, I’m excited to see the arc truly begin. Also looking forward to that dragon evolution

Wselby64

I wonder if jake will try some bloodline shenanigans with the evolution

Yahyo Malikov

What are these lines jake keeps seeing. Is it the code for the simulation? Can we potentially see Jake comprehend these codes and somehow break the sim? Or 4th wall it and meet the Exhaulted Prima?

Patryk

I keep wondering if he would glimpse something connected to the 'where the twin words meet' , I'm thinking about where he First Sage will appear all the time

Cory S.

And it begins. Gotta cull the trash mobs first and then hit the real meat and potatoes.

djthomp

It usually isn't ever fun when you get a bad seed position in a competition, and spawning in next to the Milky Way definitely counts for that. I wonder how it works if someone evolves during this. Then again relogging is easy so maybe you just go back to the Seat briefly and then come back in.

Grimsayer

Hes going to end up being like Neo. Able to see the code in everything.

Fervent Fiend

It’s also his version of dwarven stealth

Fervent Fiend

Aishalstromoz is a scion of the head of the regal flight, not a denizen of the 93rd universe. While she is no doubt a force to be reckoned with, that wyvern will probably be close to her weight class when it evolves. Villy once said that while born dragons can be ridiculously strong, the creatures that become dragons are always strong.

Fdrugc

Tftc I tend to forget how strong Jake is cuz he's normally around other elites.

Siethrobo

Won't both the Sword Saint and Eastbound Monk be in small territories? Sword Saint because he just jumped into a random galaxy and Monk because the Dao faction doesn't really compete for territory (although I imagine the monk has done well in previous events)? It would be funny if one of them was in an adjacent territory.

Xander

TFTC :) Cool on the not giving details about the rules. I was just voicing my confusion. Welcome back after the holiday everyone :) hope you had a great weekend :) Suggested edits: "He would never be the kind *of* purposefully make loud noises" should be "to" "while killing anyone in his *wake* because" might mean "way" here because "wake" ,in context, means the trail of your passage so Jake would have to have gone past the people and then shot them as he flew off. That might be the meaning you intended though. "was placed directly in his *wake*, and partly" similar here though this one should definitely be "way" also the comma should come after "and" "one of the *unnamed*, autonomous towers" probably should be "unmanned" "he doubted even close to all those within the barrier were too." poorly worded. Possibly "he doubted very many within the barrier were." instead. "glimpsed some *odds* lines everywhere" should be "odd" "other hand to punch the *leg*, feeling bones break" this may or may not be confusing. I, for one, was picturing a humanoid lion, which would suggest this should be "arm" but maybe it was always a lion shaped lion. "could even resist *for a moment* as Jake sliced the far weaker B-grades into dozens of pieces *in a moment*," repetitive. Ditch either. "had lost a leg and was *easily* poisoned." this doesnt make sense. Perhaps "severely" instead? "as the *weak* attack failed to penetrate the arcane barrier that popped up between him and the *weak* gunships." repetitive. Low level, inferior, feeble, frail, lots of choices. "controlled it likely *concluded* it" since this is a continuation of the previous statement it should be "concluding" "After *only* a few seconds, the *only* thing left " repetition. Ditch the first "Either way, he would *either* *confirm or deny* " two for this. First, repetition. Ditch the second "either" Secondly it probably should just be "confirm" for the test on the timer since Jake doesnt need to deny anything he just has to confirm how it works. You have "also" 6 times in the last 4 sentences or so. I suggest ditching the ones indicated "William *also* leading a second team" " and he *also* had help." " they would *also* soon have a True" "Jake *also* felt bad for all "

Easrbound's galaxy was s3cond or 3rd to kill all prima guardians. I'm guessing he's in one of the larger areas.

Momiji3177

I thought for a while it was going to be Venus, but I could see this place working too. Or there's something in the future that we don't know about... Zogarth does keep all the First Sage stuff pretty vague and mysterious.

R Mac

My prediction is it’s gonna be Jake (the order), Carmen (Valhal), vesperia (endless empire), Casper (risen), sword saint, sylphie and the king (monsters) versus the Holy Church, eastbound monk (dao sect) and their allies (potentially including Caleb) and once Jake wins, he will fight all his allies in a simulated world to see who is strongest culminating in an epic battle with the SS. So pumped

Nathan Holliday

Yea, I like seeing him go against the average mortal just to see how he dog walks a normal person his level.

Arieh Sochaczevski

Thanks for the chapter! It’s a video game. Being a nightmare neighbor doesn’t carry the same level of moral culpability. He’s clear.

Nathan Holliday

How about all three? I’d love to see them try to bite down on Jake only to then realize he has made friends with nearly every other faction in the multiverse. That would be funny!

Rewdan

Thanks Zogarth great read

Vega

A Jake Juiced Dragon evolution would be so cool

definitelynotbrjenness

Dragon flight be sneaking out there too. Other uknown: sloth and wintermaul. Cyborgs. Probably on team jake: Blue demon king (because we can't assume for certain even if I think he will know it's better to be on Jake's side until final battle. Still one of the more likely to challenge jake in the end. Possibly surprise attack even.) Most of Jake's allies might challenge him once the team secures win, but before winner is declared. Although, they have to consider cost of trying for first VS being eliminated in 50th spot instead of the 18th spot they currently hold. While I'm rambling, kinda hope for a leader board to appear early to put church in dominant position, another round of Jacob saying, "don't do that." ... "I told you so." Those who might not try to defeat jake in the end because their enemies will make it difficult to retain control: Vespa, Casper, I guess I see four groups: Weaklings Those that will ally jake but try for first eventually Those that are team jake to the end Those that are against jake Tldr: Lots of interesting things to see and plenty of twists for zog to choose from. Personally wouldn't hate to see jake not win and one of his friends from a neutral faction take it.

Jimbo

I'm sure you will get a viewpoint chapter soon

Carl Never

I was wondering why he didnt try to figure out the secret he uncovered

Shandlar

Idk, I feel like Jake's falling into the trap of the rules. If he just bulldozers over 500 territories, they will have an area that takes him 10+ hours to cross from one side to the other while still being limited to his initial 1000 players. The church will be allied and merging all their territories, bringing all the players with them instead. If he finds the church before finding Vespy, he could end up fighting 50000 to 1000. A huge PC income lead doesn't really help since it scales with territory size as well. More PC, but larger borders to cover. Technically the area of a circle expanding way faster than its perimeter may save him, but idk. I'm hoping he fails to find Vespy, but does find the devil prince to ally with.

Jordan Rogers

Sword saint could have claimed one of the stronger galaxies, plus aeon has underlings too, so very likely a strong group.

Biggy smalls

The Ice wyvern will be far stronger than Yrel was that's for sure but Weaker than Aisha by a fair bit. She has both the heritage and the fact that she slaughtered stronger beings than he did on their paths to B grade going for her. She has better titles than him for sure as well. Probably better skills as well given her legacy. Aisha is being setup as a good fight for Jake. Our friendly dragon would not be.

Phil Ritter

I kinda expected those territories to be permanent making it unlikely for only one faction to come out on top. Duel with SS will happen either way but maybe once they can’t loose territory anymore they will go for a final showdown since they need to leave anyway and this may be the one play where they can go all out without one of them dying or becoming permanently crippled

Episode 19

Keep rereading the second sentence, I fell like some words are out of place, “he doubted EVEN CLOSE”? Spoiler: The lion was definitely not confident in facing Jake alone. Her aura was far inferior to his, and while she was B-grade, he doubted even close to all those within the barrier were too. In the Milky Way Galaxy Territory, the majority were also still at or around peak C-grade, something he reckoned was the case in most places. Anyways, Tyftc

J

That would be a balling cliffhanger for a week or two long break. Jake just finishes his fight with the eastbound monk and after a trip to the Gate he sees past the code “ah so you’re the exalted prime then, nice simulator you got going”

Gracie

I think casper will figure it out first. jake doesn't seem to care about the make up of the simulation. but he will nerd out with casper about it afterwards.

Bookreader97

What ever happened to the vampires? You would think the think they got from seinguin would produce at least one B grade right?

Bookreader97

I think it will actually give him some insight into what the first sage was doing with the system inself

Bookreader97

Jake seeing the lines of the simulation totally reminds me of the first sage and how he could “see” the system. I wonder if this will give Jake any insights into the book he has

Ronan B

In the 93rd universe? They're part of Sword Saint's clan, so yeah there'll be a few B-grades; maybe in Aeon's faction for this event? The other, older lineages aren't from the 93rd universe so not part of this event.

Tyler Dideriksen

While I don't think it's technically wrong the way it is, I think "anywhere close" instead of "even close" sounds better to me.

Ronan B

The [Fallen] King isn't part of this event iirc? Wasn't involved in the milky way admin phase right?

Summer Coff

I can't remember if I've theorized this already or not, but I feel like the World of the Exalted Prima may be the System doing its due diligence to investigate the possibility of the Multiverse itself also being a simulation.

definitelynotbrjenness

i'm hoping he made a deal to help a faction somewhere. my guess is united tribes, but only found one person to agree with them being likely.

Quantainium C

Kind of reminds me of my own personal 'theory' of a god in our own universe. If an all powerful being spawned in one of the first things they would do is try to know everything. They could make an infinite amount of simulations to learn about any action that anyone could take so if a god exist then we all already are within the mind of God in his attempt to learn all there is to be known. The system could be that kind of being since it seems semi aware

John Durrett

tyftc. The Lioness wasn't wrong. To fall before The Chosen of the Malefic One would be an honor.

I wonder if Jake will empower the wyvern with some POE so he can get a better frost evolution.

2026-09-05 04:00 I noticed there was no mention of exp gained. I’m guessing they don’t level up but maybe they can improve skills or insights? I doubt that as well as I’m thinking about the challenge Jason and Miranda did earlier. Or maybe they’ll have an opportunity to gain abilities or improvements that can only occur in this simulation.

Dwonk

Was mentioned couple chapters ago they get 25% usual

Lemonsqueezy

What I am liking about this is the fact that others know that Jake is there. Know that they cannot do a damn thing if he comes to their territory. They have to hope that they can somehow become vassals for him. Which, I am assuming, were immediately destroyed when the system said that the next phase was a culling where only 10% would be able to move on. I am sure this is happening with the other major factions as well, but the fact is Jake (and the Milky Way) is a completely different can of worms.

Brian Thompson

Still waiting on Jake to combine the empowered dragon heart with the heart of the celestial child to buff the wyverns evolution.

Noah Mclelland

And even the high kings and queens it seems.

Noah Mclelland

I wonder if they get experience from "killing" foes as you aren't truly killing them, but its more you gain records from the fight itself. But like normal the gains from fighting people way beneath you become a negligible amount anyway, so jake gets nothing basically.

Funny Jake thinking himself the nightmare neighbor. I was kind of expecting some of the people to surrender and join Jake’s team.

Gh0st-Hunt3r

Way to easy lol I hope at least one of the territories that are surrounding his territory what's up with good fight probably not but I hope maybe one of them is one of the Holy churches cuz I'm sure he's going to destroy them without even letting him talk LOL
