One Chosen stood covered in burn wounds with blood dripping on the icy ground beneath him, while the other had several large arrow holes in her body, all of them radiating dark green veins from the powerful toxin they’d been soaked in.

Both of them regarded each other for a moment before both moved at the same time. The Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord was clearly tired after pulling off her combo, making her stick to simplistic attacks, and fortunately for her, Jake wasn’t exactly in top form either, making him also take a more relaxed approach as he summoned a potion into his mouth to restore some vital energy.

He had wanted to wait to consume a potion, as he’d honestly expected to need one for stamina, but that last attack from the other Chosen had done some serious damage, and Jake needed the immediate rush of restorative energy to heal his body more quickly, as in its current state, it was impeding his combat power.

The health potion’s energy flooded his body in an instant, and with the help of Blood of the Malefic Viper empowering its restorative effect further, his body started healing rapidly. Muscles were rebuilt and repaired, skin regrew, bones were mended, and within only a few seconds, he looked almost presentable again. Well, besides the broken armor, minor signs of frostbite, and cuts from the Sword Palace disciple that hadn’t been entirely healed. Jake also hadn’t gotten fully rid of the energy Azal had inflicted on him, though he was working on it, and the potion had helped.

To his surprise, he saw that the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord also took out an item to consume it. Rather than a potion, though, she took out a pill that she quickly popped, and based on its effects, it seemed to have a similar effect to a rejuvenation potion, restoring all her resources.

Focusing on liquids or pills were two entirely valid and equal Paths of alchemy, and Jake knew that while the Order of the Malefic Viper specialized in liquids, the Dao Sect primarily made pills. Generally, they tended to share effects and cooldowns, and it was simply a choice of which one preferred, though pills did tend to be superior when it came to mass production, while potions were considered slightly easier to make.

Poisons rarely came in pill form, though, at least not when they were meant to be used for combat. They certainly existed, but given the Viper’s Path and that venom was pretty much always a liquid, the Order and thus Jake definitely preferred potions and poisons as liquids rather than solids.

Tangent aside, the pill consumed by the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord had definitely been potent, and Jake believed it had even helped with her mental exhaustion, likely having some soul-calming properties. A good pill for sure, but compared to the extreme effect of Jake’s health potion, it was clearly still far behind.

It was enough, though, as it allowed her to keep up even as Jake’s mostly recovered body let him increase the tempo. He wanted to avoid losing momentum again, as he’d just experienced firsthand what could happen if she was allowed to let loose and unleash combo attacks.

Admittedly, Jake had also fucked up royally. How stupid had he been to not remember that water was the enemy and that it always sucked whenever the two concepts of water and combat ever got intertwined?

He didn’t plan to repeat such mistakes; in fact, ideally, he wouldn’t allow her to unleash any major attacks again, at least not without truly committing significant resources. It was clear that the combo attack before had taken quite a toll, even if it had definitely been more than worth it from her perspective. Jake wanted her to at least commit that level of resources if she wanted to even attempt to do any serious damage.

Thus, he kept a high tempo as he bombarded her with arrows from all directions while defending himself against her half-hearted attacks either by dodging or using freeform arcane magic to shoot down her attacks or deflect them with barriers.

She was instantly on the back foot due to the sheer pressure Jake applied, his speed advantage remaining overwhelming. His attack method was also, perhaps a bit surprisingly, far simpler than hers. One would think that simply imagining an attack would be the fastest method, but even that required thought.

Jake didn’t have to think while shooting, but could rely entirely on instinct and muscle memory as he entered a flow state where several arrows were released every second without even having to commit Rapid Fire, which would have required him to stand still.

Their exchange of attacks continued for a while longer, Jake having a definite advantage throughout as he landed a few solid arrows on the other Chosen, though he didn’t end up doing that much damage. She seemed to be taking the time to recover somewhat while also getting used to Jake’s tempo, which helped her adapt better. She truly was a genius with how fast she learned to read Jake, but unfortunately for her, Jake was no worse than her in that area.

As she adapted, so did Jake, changing his attack patterns on the fly when one became ineffective, and his arrows kept curving and flying in novel patterns, keeping them unpredictable even as the fight stretched on. Jake also started to get a better read of his opponent, and while she tried to also change things up, it was clear she had a lot of mental bias towards doing certain things, which allowed Jake to take advantage.

He definitely had the upper hand, yet Jake didn’t try to push further than he currently was. Several skills were purposefully held in reserve, and he’d avoided using skills that had limited uses even during his fight with Azal and Xiurong, as he knew he’d likely need them later on. That he’d need whatever he could get.

Because while he had the advantage right now, he knew that she was still massively holding out on him. Heartsoul Cultivators were scary for their Words of Power and their ability to bend the world around them with their will, yes, but that wasn’t when they were at their scariest.

Jake was more or less just waiting, wanting to force her to finally go all out and use her strongest skill. Of course, if she didn’t, he was fine with turning her into a rotting pincushion, but he had a strong feeling she wouldn’t want that to happen. Didn’t even need Bloodline-empowered intuition for that one.

However, she seemed reluctant to use her ability quite yet, perhaps because she wanted to force Jake into revealing more. As far as he knew, using it would also put her on a timer of sorts, since keeping it running would be massively energy-intensive. Even so, shouldn’t she have used it already if she could...

Wait...

Did Caleb perhaps force her to use it? The thought hadn’t even occurred to Jake at first, but wasn’t it possible he’d managed to make her use it on him to beat him? While his little brother was far weaker than Jake and not truly a threat, that was largely because of who Jake was. The pressure from the Dark Heavens wasn’t even that bad in Jake’s opinion, and while the black lightning was fast, with near precognitive abilities, it wasn’t that hard to dodge.

The Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord was very different, though, and wasn’t there a good chance the Dark Heavens would be especially effective on her? She relied on her mental energy, and while she certainly had a stupidly powerful soul – something his Primal Gaze had already confirmed as it really sucked to use on her – resisting the Dark Heavens wasn’t as simple as merely having a strong soul. In fact, it could make it worse.

From what Caleb had told Jake, the Dark Heavens were essentially a limitless concept that by definition would always be capable of overcoming anything beneath it. It existed both as a concept and kind of physically within the Shadow Realm, though Jake didn’t entirely understand how it worked. All he did know was that its pressure could get stronger the more powerful someone’s soul was, so even if Caleb himself hadn’t been powerful enough to deal serious damage to the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord, it was entirely possible the invoked Dark Heavens could.

Assuming that, she would have needed a way to get rid of it, and the best way to get rid of a power relying on a domain – the Shadow Realm in this case – was with another, even more powerful domain of her own.

It was exactly the domain Jake was waiting for, and he was pretty sure she was getting close to unleashing it. Jake’s advantage was only growing, and she’d been struck by several arrows with none of her attempts to fight back or develop countermeasures working. In fact, things only got worse the more things dragged on, something she definitely realized.

After barely dealing with another barrage of arrows, as the explosions from an Arrow Storm had yet to even subside, she spoke, releasing what most feared from Heartsoul Cultivators.

Jake felt her gaze on him, and for a moment, her eyes were all he saw as two syllables echoed throughout the entire antechamber.

“Homebound.”

A word with two meanings in this context. To her, it meant the journey to the place she truly called home, while to Jake, it meant being bound to that home. Of being unable to escape the place she called home.

And what a home it was.

With that one word, the entire world had changed, and Jake had been brought somewhere entirely different. He found himself standing on a naturally occurring stack of stone, with the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord standing on her own small tower not too far ahead of him.

Beneath them, a vast valley with two rivers and countless plants flourished, and above, the sky was endless and blue. It all looked like a little paradise, and most people brought there so suddenly would probably believe it to be an illusion, as no edges to the domain could be seen in any direction, as the land simply stretched on, but Jake knew it was all real.

His Sphere of Perception also confirmed it. This was a true world, as real to his senses as any other. Perhaps because of the simulated reality they were also inside, this domain seemed even more real than the antechamber.

Jake looked around and nodded. “It’s a nice place. Would build a little cottage or lodge, though. Would make it cozier.”

He had barely finished his words, as beneath in the valley, what looked like a fishing cottage appeared next to the river, looking as if it had always been there. There was no warning of its appearance, no movements of energy, no nothing. It simply came to be because the woman in front of him had willed it to be, and so it was.

“See? Much nicer,” Jake smiled, taking in the nice atmosphere that was definitely way more pleasant than the antechamber, which was filled with dust and whatnot from all the broken stuff there.

“Would almost be a shame to ruin it,” he continued, knowing that wasn’t really an option, and he was just buying a bit of time, as despite not discovering anything yet, he was busily trying to understand the domain he found himself within. However, he was interrupted when something utterly surprising happened.

“It’s okay... I’ll restore it later,” the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord surprisingly answered him, leaving Jake staring. He wasn’t going to lie; the second he heard her voice, he jumped a little, as he’d expected a Word of Power, not for her to, you know, just talk.

She was surprisingly quiet despite her voice still carrying such innate power, and it was quite clear she wasn’t used to talking. Either way, it appeared his understanding of her being unable to speak had been slightly off.

“So you can talk without unwillingly unleashing Words of Power?” Jake asked. “No, wait... only in here, perhaps?”

The other Chosen smiled and nodded, seemingly still not used to that entire speaking thing. She probably didn’t get many opportunities for conversation if she had to drag the person she wanted to talk to into her domain every time.

“I see,” Jake nodded, looking to the sky again before letting out a sigh and throwing her a look as he raised an eyebrow. “Why is the sun getting closer?”

She just smiled as Jake’s already tattered armor started smoking, and beneath, the river evaporated rapidly as all the plants withered and the lodge caught fire. An extreme heat that made the desert of the Central Domain seem like a well-air-conditioned office building where half the employees complained it was too cold.

Jake’s scales were shimmering with energy as they absorbed the heat as best they could, with Primal Spirit of Man also doing work as Jake knew the time for talking was over.

Being unable to escape from the sun itself, Jake whipped out his bow and decided to go on the offensive. He’d barely taken out his weapon when his danger sense warned him, making Jake dodge to the side right as a spear pierced past him, wielded by the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord.

The move had been instant, and Jake didn’t hesitate to step down to teleport, only to appear in the exact same spot as a spear pierced toward him again, forcing Jake to block with the body of his bow.

At least he tried to, but the spear turned into a snake-like creature that penetrated his shoulder before he could properly react. The blow sent Jake stumbling back as he tried to stabilize and create distance, but space seemed to compress as a powerful force struck him from above, sending him flying downwards.

Mid-descent, Jake twisted his body and shot an arrow towards his opponent, but it completely missed, curving weirdly despite Jake intending for it to go straight. At the same time, the ground beneath him started rising up as it formed a forest of sharp spikes that were rapidly coming towards him.

Spinning in the air while shooting out a blast of arcane energy, Jake managed to launch himself to the side, but the area of rising ground was far too large for him to get all the way out of it, forcing him to summon a dozen exploding arcane orbs to blow off some of the sharp ends of the spikes.

He managed to do so, but it didn’t particularly help his situation, as, within his sphere, he saw everything beneath him warp as the ground began to wrap around him, forming a sphere with spikes on the inside.

Twisting his body again, Jake started charging an Arcane Powershot, and just as the massive sphere was about to close around him, he managed to blow a hole through it and barely escape before the entire thing imploded, forming a basketball-sized sphere of hyper-condensed soil and rock.

A sphere that proceeded to shoot after Jake, and without directly testing it, he already knew destroying it would be a tall order. Dodging, the world around him warped as space was clearly being messed with, resulting in him getting struck on the side by the ball, feeling the impact all the way down to his bones.

The orb that had just smashed into him pivoted in the air before shooting back at him, while at the same time space warped and the other Chosen threw a spear, all while the scorching heat was slowly draining away at his resources. He managed to avoid the orb this time by barely adapting to the warping space at the very last second, but it still led to Jake getting strafed by the spear, leaving a nasty laceration down his back.

Jake tried to stabilize as he realized that the sky above him was suddenly full of spears, with the Chosen floating there, fully aware Jake had no good way to strike her within her own world.

Momentum was an important factor in battle, and needless to say, Jake really needed to do something to regain it as all the spears fell like rain, the steam from the evaporated rivers rose and formed a dragon-like creature, and space condensed around him, limiting his ability to dodge.

Thanks for the chapter. Happy Independence Day weekend to those of us in the United States and to the rest of the world I hope you have a great weekend as well.

definitelynotbrjenness

Frist, frist, frist. Oh the glorious day has finally arrived. Finally recognized for my brilliance. Someone will make a Wikipedia page about my achievement on this day. Influencers will talk about it and other influencers will talk about other influencers talking about it. I will be famous. Wealth will rain down upon me. Such a glorious day. My day has finally come. FRIST!!!! oh no, did I type to long?

djthomp

Retroactively even more proud of Caleb given that he made the Heartsoul Chosen pull out her domain to beat him.

Justin

Seems a bit OP to be able to spam a skill allowing you to be the admin of your little world whenever you want

Michael

Time for Jake’s word of power

m meh

Excellent weekend cliffhanger, tftc!

SmokeJam

Is she still holding out on him? I honestly expected something unique, but everything she has shown this far other people could do too. Maybe not as effective or everything at once, but I am rather unimpressed by her combat abilities. Maybe I am just spoiled with all the creative ways of combat and magic that were introduced during the whole saga until now.

Domain skills are cool! And honestly gives some neat foreshadowing to what Pride could one day become. Plus all the training and development of Jake's soul space with the first sage...

definitelynotbrjenness

Lol. Her. Walk. Zog's doing some of these on purpose to give us something to laugh at. The burnt peanut methodology.

Arrogant Savant

So Caleb had a surprisingly good matchup versus her but lacked the power to take advantage of that fact.

TFTC :) Have a great weekend all :D Why isnt Jake also using a regeneration potion to refill everything? Pretty sure I read about him making those in book 14? Probably needs more focussed refilling. Suggested edits: You added "The" to the title for today. Missing from yesterdays for consistency. "had several *larger* arrow holes" should just be "large" since larger is comparitive. "Both of them regarded *one another*" should be "the other" from the phrasing. "making him ** take a more relaxed approach" missing word "also" " *Whether one made* pills or liquids to consume *was* two entirely valid" shoukd be "Making pills or liquids to consume were two..." "it was simply a choice *what* one preferred" should be "which" "as he’d just *firsthand experienced* what could" should be "experienced firsthand" "either by dodging or ** freeform arcane magic" missing word "using" "get a better read *of her* opponent" shoukl be "on his" "he saw as *two words* echoed" but "homebound" is one word. Perhaps "syllables" instead? "you know, just *walk*." should be "talk" "seemingly still not entirely used to that *entire* speaking thing." repetitive. Change to "whole" "Jake whipped out his bow and decided to go on the *defensive*." shouldn't this be "offensive" since he whipped out a weapon? "his danger sense *warped* him," should be "warned"

SJR2301

Why doesn't Jake use the potions that restore multiple resources. He learnt to make them when he was staying with Valhal.

Siethrobo

It's got to be Event Horizon to counter this/get the momentum back right? I sincerely doubt Pride is anywhere near strong enough here, although I do wonder if Wings' escape function can get him out of Powerful domains.

micah Hogan

It seems to me that her whole thing is the versatility and the ease with? Which she does it, sure other people could do similar things but the whole hart soul sect i based on using words of power to make the world fight for them, so while anyone could use their magic to have water or rocks attack, not just anyone could command the entire world around them to the degree that she is, in particular this hands out in the last chapter where she bends the walls of the castle to protect herself or changing all the objects in the room to suit her needs sure most B grades COULD have turned the fragments in the room into weapons like she did, but it wouldn't be viable in combat, and the domain takes it to the ninth degree so that while maintaining the domain may cost a lot of resources te benefit is that her usually resource inesive skills and attacks are far less penalized.

R Mac

What has been more effective than being a god of your own world? lol

James Cobb

Seriously don't get why people don't like multi chapter fights what's the point if Jake is just one punch man.

Yes, thank you for the chappy and Happy 4th of July weekend to all that celebrate it!

Ritsu

I think it's mentioned that because since the effectiveness is all spread out, they don't restore as many resource points total as specific potions. Also Jake almost never runs out of mana in his fights, so that part of a restorative potion would not be as valuable as more health or stamina.

Josie

*bald eagle noises* 🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🎆

Anyone who isn’t a bit OP is no challenge at all to our living cheat of a protagonist.

Arieh Sochaczevski

Thanks for the chapter! I know he didn’t want to use event horizon, but I’m guessing that’s what’s gonna happen on Monday.

zran

Indeed, is about time he uses his secret weapon, the smelly pot, i doubt she gonna stand that stench

zran

Agreed, but at the same time if they stretch for too long is as bad a battles what ends in a single chapter

John

“he’d expected a Word of Power, not for her to, you know, just walk.” Is walk supposed to be talk here?

Nathaniel France

Ehh I think it’s less the multi chapter fight, and when they start turning into multi week fights. A few chapters is fine, though.

zran

Indeed, is because their value is shared between each resource it heals that potion So lets say he has made a hp/mp potion, it could heal about 5000 hp and mp But a pure hp or mp potion could instead heal 10000 of that one resource Imo those what heals multiple at once are used either when resting after a battle, or when you really need multiple resources at once

Rewdan

Thanks Zogarth it’s been an amazing weeks reading

Fdrugc

"Jake also started to get a better read of her opponent," Suggested edit change "her" to his. "Being unable to escape from the sun itself, Jake whipped out his bow and decided to go on the defensive. He’d barely taken out his weapon when his danger sense warped him, making Jake dodge to the side right as a spear pierced past him, wielded by the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord." Suggested edit change defensive to offensive. I wonder how his horizon skill will be affected by The Domain.

Summer Coff

It would be a very funny shame if the ten minutes ran out while they were being cautious and waiting for their opponent to do something.

definitelynotbrjenness

jake can kick butt inside someone's soul, he should be able to do the same in a domain. random things that don't merge into a coherent thought: truesouls are immortal. there may be a connection between soul spaces and God's domains. do gods project their true soul space onto their bodies to be immortal? gods can still die. can true souls be damaged? aren't true souls untouchable? was losing an arm damaging the truesoul? or just the soul shape? thump, steam dragon desert disappears and forest and plains appear.

Tr0LLach

Because they are very rarely interesting enough to warrant it. Villy vs Yip had layers of reveals and cool, never-before-seen god mechanics. No complaints. Regular Jake fights are made up of 80% the same stuff we read a hundred times before. There is so much cooler stuff in this series that we'd rather read over arrows arrowing.

ABTelford

Woohoo!! Intense and loving it! But several grammatical errors and a couple typos. Needs a good edit…but dang, what a great story! Thanks author man!

Phillip

Damn weekend cliffhangers! Still love it though!

Kirin

True maybe it’s just me but this persons path is also extremely boring, there’s nothing wrong with its well thought out, but I enjoyed the fight with the Rainbowfeather more. Maybe because there was a risk of death, yeah these fights seem boring because there’s no chance of Jake dying or even really struggling to survive. It’s fighting yeah but the stakes have made this entire event feel pretty dull. If it’s fighting I want more dragon hunting and upgrading skills <-especially more skill upgrades.

James Cobb

Stakes are an interesting question because how would his bloodline actually react if he ended up losing and having a fake death I don't think it would be an small a thing as being kicked out for 30 days. The stakes are small for most everyone else because they don't exist with Jakes level of I am the best survival instinct that likely won't respond well at all to having to acknowledge that someone at his his tier is above him in that manner.

SetherAedekae

Is event horizon a domain skill? I bet it qualifies and he uses it to overpower her domain

BumAssBumAss

If the Chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord said "Tuna Mayo", would Tuna and Mayo magically appear?

Jim Butler

If it's a real fight that's fine but these I'm not showing anything fights are lame. At least memory wipe the losers so we don't get this patty cake nonsense. This whole arc has been a major letdown.

Andrew P

Is there a connection between the soul realms and the domains?

KingGoomba

I wonder if Event Horizon could over power her domain

ChRiAn

Will Jake use this fight to (finally) improve One Step or will he use Event Horizon to hit Greybeard Girl? Or find another ugrade that would help, although I wouldn't know which one.

ChRiAn

I personally hope for a One Step improvement. That is one of his main skills that is sorely neglected.

Jamaal Hill

This is starting to remind me of the First Sage visiting Jake's soul space. She's manipulating space and matter, instantly attacking, then instantly reacting to Jakes cheat-like pre- cognitive dodging abilities/ danger sense. She even redirected his unblemished arrows (might be due for an upgrade in this fight). I don't think we've seen most of this, though we have seen domain skills like Carmen's and the Swordsaint's

Dan

No good way to strike her besides your very special skill that doesn't let your target escape! Inb4 he has his first "surviving" target of Event Horizon (since she wont truly die)

Dan

I'm surprised, personally I find the Heartsoul path to be very interesting. I'm hoping we get to see more of this girl in the future when she's grown into her power more and we get to see some more complex applications of her power

Jamaal Hill

Soulspaces and divine realms are definitely connected. So Jake's habit of and ability to project into the soul space of others and dominate them in their own soul space bodes well for him being able to kill gods in their divine realms in the future, like Villy did with the brimstone hegemon. But not everyone has learned to use their soulspaces (which is why FS had to teach Jake) so they aren't able to use it like a domain before divinity. He doesn't have much experience with this which I believe is went he wanted this fight to reach this level. Sidenote: what is his upgrade to eterbal shadow that he teased was related to cresting some type of cursed/shadowy domain? That'd be insane. Also it was stated by Eron and during the whole "I"/false god issue that souls that reach divinity have specifically unique quality to them. Not just what's projected, but what they consist of. Idk if true souls can be damaged, but definitely altered through things like evolution, skills like anomolous soul, and the kind of events that give out bloodlines, so its probably possible. Whatever the formerly fallen King did to scare Eron during the scavenger hunt probably also counts.

Rob Lyon

@Kirin I definitely think we're getting ready to see a skill upgrade I think we will see pride get upgraded so he can counteract her control of the territory

Stephen

So, i'm thinking this is only partially a domain. I think "homebound" drags her and who she wants into her soulspace. This makes sense because "heart soul dao". Its a dangerous gamble, but once that pays off when your entire path is all about force of will. Also, most people of her level have never been to there soulspace before. Once thing that I think proves this theory is that Jake was able to change the space to add his cottage/cabin.

definitelynotbrjenness

maybe he'll make an eternal horizon or something that isolates the two instead of marking the opponent.

Anakta

And he got out of the domain alive.

SmokeJam

She is by far not the first domain user we have seen. Maybe none as comprehensive as hers, but she does need a unique stick. Her world and attacks have a depth to it others cannot compete with, I just thought there might be more to using words of power, like directly affecting the opponent and not use them to manipulate the world for attacks. Feels like a complicated and more energy intensive way of fighting for negligible improvements in skill power compared to less complex affinities. Castle wall excluded, that was badass of her.

ChRiAn

More dangerous question: Can she turn her domain into a water level?

ChRiAn

Why would it be a domain? Nothing about it has anything to do with domains. Pride is closer to be a domain skill. I would say Event Horizon is far more a domain ignorer similiar to the arrow upgrade that allows them to ignore concepts.

ChRiAn

Did he change it? I read it as him mentioning it and her doing it.

SetherAedekae

It creates another space. Either way Im sure thats how he gets out of the domain n

ChRiAn

truesouls have layers, like onions. Of course true souls can be damaged, Jake himself suffered severe souldamage during his palate screw up. And if you consider that the soul shape, how the body sees itself, is part of the true soul, it can be mutulated as well, remember the azure dragonling that Villy ripped an arm off because he couldn't take a joke.

definitelynotbrjenness

I think you're merging soulshape and truesoul. true soul is at the center of the onion containing records and such.

Lynderyn

I see a potential cheese. Jake uses wings to return to the chamber, being the only one their resulting in Jake advancing, then Homebound ending resulting in the other Chosen ending up in the chamber, being the only one there as Jake has moved on, thus allowing her to move on.

Tomer Yud

I miss the first sage

Jimbo

And he's noted that others have better versions. Now that he's SEEN them, he should upgrade

Jimbo

Yes, of course, but would there be bread? That's the real question.

Jimbo

Rosebud?

Bi Dailey

Not really. She kept him alive to maintain the Shadow Realm so she could continue to watch the fight between Jake and the other two. But yeah, she still definitely needed her domain to subdue him

Bruce K

I wonder how Jake's horizon skills will interact with this domain

Christian Standhardinger

This is the best Series I have ever read. Ignore all critics; keep being you. Keep writing it exactly how you want. That's how we got here in the first place!

Crimson Ender

I was just thinking about the First Sage and how this is directly like their fight.

Eden

Hard, but he chasing that horizon

The_Wandering_Drake

I like this whole system event but it’s been so long since we’ve seen villy which is my favorite character. 😭. I also wonder how many people will be left after this portion of the event maybe 1,000. Idk tell me what you think.

The_Wandering_Drake

I fear that after this battle with the chosen of the heart soul Daolord we will have another week of chapters surround the sword saint vs the eastbound monk (1-5) which I’m fine with long chapter fights with Jake but not really for sword saint idk

Biggy smalls

Yep. Simulation arc was a bad idea imo. Jake spent 11 days trapped in flower world. What’s 30 days in a timeout matter?

Thenais

/img Hurrican Florida man meme

Raymond Whitehead

This sounds like the perfect opportunity to upgrade one step finally

Phil Ritter

I agree that depending on the opponent a single chapter won’t suffice but there have been fights where I felt it dragged on after a while. The only reason this one is bad is because it landed on a Friday in the middle of it

Phil Ritter

@Ritsu on the opposite it was even mentioned that they healed more than half compared to a similar single Ressource potion. He just never got around to trying to brew them. Probably forgot they exist like half the stuff in his necklace

InfernoDroid

Non of anything matters, it's just a neat, creepy event that happened. Honestly, Jake not being the ultimate victor in the encounter is nice

InfernoDroid

Ehhh, to me he's more of a plot point than a character

definitelynotbrjenness

I'm beginning to think there IS A SCHEDULE. When was the last time zog surprised us by releasing 10 chapters on a Saturday?

InfernoDroid

Personally I've enjoyed the arc. I almost think the issue that people who aren't enjoying it are having is they think because no one is dying that it doesn't matter, but in all honesty, it's no different than the normal story, it's just in the normal story the people that die don't matter, hell most of the times they don't have names, or are dungeon monsters that don't exist, or are monsters that die by the dozens in a single paragraph. In both this arc, and in those of the past we know Jake wasn't going to die, so there isn't a difference there. Narratively the story flows the same, except for one massive difference now that can't happen outside of this event. Jake can get his ass kicked and die, he can lose and not be the bestest boy ever to do a mass murder. And due me, that possibility is more interesting than a fight. This arc has also given us the chance to see a lot more of the side characters' growth since really nevermore. Jake is just the vehicle used to move the event along

definitelynotbrjenness

Since most of the critics are unfamiliar names, I assume most of the whining is people who got the OK from mom to join the patreon for 1 month.

beeve

You mean sandy?

beeve

It’ll fuck it up

beeve

Of course

Xksi

I think, due to the mystery surrounding the EBM, we will only see the aftermath. Maybe a short conversation between both of them before he finishes off the SS. The reveals will be shown in a 10 chapter fight between Jake and him at the end of the event, anything else will be ruining the mystery

Biggy smalls

If anything I think you touched on an overall problem with this entire series. Nobody who fights or actively pursues leveling that’s on team Jake has never died and stayed dead in this entire 17 book series. I’ve been conditioned to think that death is an impossibility which removes all stakes from all fights until proven otherwise. There’s like 45 reoccurring mortal characters that actively pursue leveling in this series as well. Whether we want it or not some of these characters should be dead by now and at least one elite.

That sort of makes the simulation more interesting then not since they can meet people they would lose to. Most of the elites won't get into a fight they can in theory possibly lose which means they can go all out. Though I think that Jake losing a fight in the simulation would do something odd with his bloodline going into a rage mode when he got kicked out unlike most of the people.

First sage thought as I re read through chapters this weekend. First sage manipulated and worked a bugged new system during the initiation of the first universe. Even Villy admitted to how much easier it was back then as even the system was figuring stuff out. Bloodlines being natural bugs in the system the first sage was knowledge in pure form unable to forget anything. Throughout the first Era after integration the FS created and formed the origin for skills everyone has now identify, meditate and im sure plenty more we don't know for sure yet. Most of the above is confirmed info of a sort so here's my speculation. In order for the system to "hot fix" itself with the FS updates and grant his legacy skills to the universe the first sage had to die. In his own words for the primordials to ascend or more specifically for villy to become what he is today. He had to die. His records recycling through the system. I also like to think the library he passed to villy in the form of sagacity was also the blueprint for identify he passed on. Anyway that's my rant, happy weekend all.

I think Jake’s domain will be more around the endless horizon then anything to do with pride

We want them to end by Friday!

Author James Meyer - Oath of the Survivor

Great fight! Love seeing the Pride upgrade, and excited to see what else it becomes! Hopefully we get to see echoes of Villy eroding concepts themselves, like during his fight with Yip

Stephen

I read it as him doing it, I guess we'll see.

Just like (of the Malefic Viper) skills tie back to Villy and he gains some records from it, Identify and Meditate being legacy skills of the first sage has me thinking about a few things. Anytime the skills are used records should flow back to the first sage about the way they were used. Does that mean the FS gains insights from every being that meditates and the breakthroughs they reach while meditating? Do the various ways to use Identify by different beings of all grades provide records and info on what Identify uncovered about the targeted item/being? All that being said if I am onto something here in any way it at least helps ME explain to my theorizing mind how the hell the FS can know so damn much about the multiverse after his death.

Man reality warpers are some of the most entertaining fights to read in any litrpg or xianxia series. This girl has now secured a place in my heart next to Maya from path of ascension

I kind if miss Villy as well and after this event there will probably be Between 500 - 1000 left and only ONE will get an audience with the King of abundance or is it one person from every Antechamber gets an audience ?? i don't know i guess well see 💯🤩

Gh0st-Hunt3r

1000% Agreed with yall there was a dude in the comments from the last chapter i don't know if you guys saw it but he seriously tried to Use real world Mechanics to bitch that something wasn't possible ?? go check it out in the comments of last chapter i laid into him for it lol

Gh0st-Hunt3r

No he said it and she changed it lol he can't manifest things in her soulspace !

Gh0st-Hunt3r

I'm curious .... If this Homebound Skill Is her soul space she just brought him into wouldn't that mean her soul is super vulnerable from the inside?? I remember when jake went into the Demon Lords soul space to help him defeat the cerulean devil it was mentioned by villy that when inside someone else soul space you can seriously hurt there soul ! i also remember villy told Jake to not tell anyone he can enter another's soul if I'm wrong let me know that's just how i understood it.

Hmmm I did check it out. Best advice I have is to just say ''System Fuckery doesnt give a shit about our science'' . To even try to make sense of something within the story using our science is to disregard all the times characters have told Jake that nobody can make sense of the system, it just is. And when something doesnt make sense just say system fuckery xD

Water doesnt conduct electricity, just saying. It is the metal impurities that do.

Seems like Event Horizon is gonna make an appearance to counteract the forced warping of his arrows.
