Okay here’s what we’re working with!

This is the central hub of my work area and it’s a freakin mess and I kinda sorta hate it. The lighting is bad, the surface areas are cramped, the storage layout is terrible, and also it... well just look at it... yuck...

You can see on the left there, just a few feet off the ground is the pile of backlogged figs that have arrived over the last several months (and now years). It blocks my part-sorted cubbies, it’s in the way, and there’s no other place I can store stuff for prepping and receiving custom figs.

And see, I know what you’re thinking “ya just need storage Andrew!”

Well my storage area is also full! Several bins fill nearly half a closet's worth of space in past builds, upcoming builds, or archived builds that I need to sort out back into the cubbies.

(I hope this is all making sense because it's all a bit difficult to explain the method to the madness)

This crap on the floor and storage bins that share the same closet space as the apartment vacuum… it’s not an ideal setup for anyone! However there are some things that I do like about what’s going on under all the mess.

I really like the cubbie system. Essentially right now, each cubbie has a broad designation of a Lego element like “wedge plates” or "foliage" or "slopes". Then in each cubbie they're all sub-sorted in bags with labels to help search for parts quickly when I need them.

Each of these cubbies contain different part’s categories and it’s a pretty efficient system.

There's a few other shelving units that don’t fit that system like the those two cheapy plastic drawers on the right of my desk that are a smaller concept of the large cubbies (stuff that was sorted pre-cubbie ownership). There’s even some other cubbies in use around the apartment that aren’t shown in these photos!

It’s just a lot for the small space I’m in right now.

Another thing I like is having my BHz on display! But that too has become a bit overwhelming in how they’re displayed. Multiple display cases, all precariously stacked on one another without any easy way to access them. Not to mention with the way they are stacked so close to the old 1970s AC unit sticking out of the wall, my desk gets hella dusty in the summertime.

So ya see what I mean when I say I’m excited to flatten this all and start semi-fresh!

This whole thing is a mess that’s slowly been bringing me more stress than enjoyment. I find that I can’t just sit down and enjoy a project without first having to move the computer out of the way, then move a bunch of bins to the floor or to the side.

I have some high hopes for the future, because whatever it’ll be, it’ll be waaaay better than this! 🤞🏻
