Excelsior and Pickle are at it again!

What a lovely looking Guy Gardner, and arguably the best one I’ve gotten so far! Although that’s not saying much… My last Guy was printed by SFX and frankly it was a placeholder at best! Because this one now sports side leg print! Woo!

I mean just look at SFX vs this new one! So much more design care went into this fig! Just look at the details in the sweater and how much straighter the boot straps are compared to SFX!

But all that said… there's no upper leg print on this new fig >:(

But with that aside, the design for this fig isn’t anything radically different from other custom Guy’s we’ve seen in the past (about a year ago SBJ put one out there that was pretty similar tbh). With most, if not all of them being based off several different unofficial renditions of Guy in Lego’s own animated movies, this fig one only improves upon others that have come before it. Well… other than the blank spaces on those legs under the hips. Ya’ll know I’m not a fan of the big blank green areas…

Okay okay okay I'm sorry, I'm going on a tangent here, isn’t it also weird that they printed the hip piece and the insides of the legs for a nice 360° print… but not that upper area of the leg? 

Why not just skip the inner leg print at that point? Or why not just print that upper leg area and we wouldn't be having this problem!? Having one but not the other is so strange to me… no matter how you pose him, he’s missing ink!

…ugh.

Alright, enough about the legs!

The only other thing I feel is missing for this fella would be some more expressions.

I would've loved to have gotten another head or two for this fig. Guy has lots of big feelings and some of my favorite panels with him are where he looks smug or pissed or really chuffed with himself. While the expressions Excelsior/Pickle designed here are both moderately smug enough, a grumpy exaggerated scowl or a big cheesy mocking face would have been welcome!

It’s a bit ironic, but for me these faces almost look better for Aquaman than they do for Guy 🤷🏻‍♂️

As for the parts included, I find it odd that he didn’t actually come with the hair advertised for the preorder (or even on the collectors card for that matter). But instead we get his more traditional hairstyle. Not bad, but it’s not what I paid for… 🤔

But the big selling feature for me is that baseball bat! I love this freaking bat! 

It's literally just the same size and shape as an official Lego bat, only transparent and that’s honestly the absolute perfect way to make custom accessories! Get them to fit in with the system! Not everything has to look wild and hyper accurate!

However, commenting on hyper accuracy makes me wonder… is this actually an official lego element? I mean look at the molded insignia work! You don’t commonly see that kind of stuff unless it’s Jaka!

It’s honestly the most versatile piece here as I can swap it with any other GL fig and it’ll fit right in!

$60 for this fig also felt pretty reasonable! Maybe a bit on the high side given that the hair included isn’t the expensive newer style, but the old bowl-cut mold from the 00s still works okay!

Regardless, I enjoyed my time with this fig! Not a loss by any means!
