I’ll be honest, Fire from Olympus was never one of my favorite episodes, but I’ve got to commend Hades for producing yet another left-of-center BTAS character!

I’m still sort of hoping to get a few more mainline characters tho… like The Riddler or Killer Croc would be great! Heck I’ve even got Ras and Talia still sitting on my desk, but for some reason I was compelled to look at Maxie here instead 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not to mention we’ve got Red Claw and Roxy Rocket still in the preorder phase!

Knowing Hades, we’ll probably get somebody like Wormwood or Nostromos before they print a Riddler (ugh… nobody likes Nostromos)

But I digress! The review must go on!

Now, I’ll say it, the face Hades designed for this fig sucks. This dude was bold and over the top, so why did Hade’s give him such a bland expression? Hade’s didn’t even include a secondary head as an accessory! I mean talk about refining a product down to just the bare essentials! We didn’t even get a lightning rod!

Now sure, I’ve said it before, if the fig is well designed, ya don’t always need good accessories, and for the most part I stand by that here as well! But ya know… more stuff is nice too 🥺

As for the rest of the print, Hades uses the traditional Lego-Musculature design and threw a simple and not too complex blue shawl over it. There’s no printing over the shoulder to connect the front at back of the torso, but I don’t think it bugs me all that much. It’s got that official Lego charm that I could easily see this fig in one of the old Lego DC videogames.

The gold on this guy is also really nice! It’s consistent from custom parts to standard minifig limbs! Honestly the print work is as good as I’d want it to be! I don’t feel let down or disappointed with what I was led to preorder back in April.

The custom parts themselves are also pretty solid!

The pleating in the skirt-element is nice and subtle and again that gold is really crisp alllllll the way around the piece. It’s a hard resin element so the posability is naturally a bit limited.

The headpiece is also well produced!

It’s a bit funny to get that beard right though. I’d been thinking about if for a while, and in the end I feel like this is still the better design choice to go with instead of printing the beard on the face. Something about the two-pointed shape to it that would have looked strange and short if it was directly on the head…

Unfortunately for my tastes, that means that the sideburn area of the piece feels much too thick. In the show Maxie has a sort of hourglass shaped head where it tapers in the middle to then make the beard look large by comparison and that was going to be a struggle to translate into Lego-like parameters.

At the end of the day though, I’m not disappointed at all! $90 for it feels a bit steep given the lack of accessories (like seriously, we could have gotten that blue lightning bolt he’s got at the very least) BUT it’s not a total deal breaker!

This is a great fig and another solid addition to the BTAS collection! :)
