I’ve been hoping and dreaming for the day Jaka would make another Wolverine and they did not disappoint! Wow! Just look at this fig!

Ever since their last Wolverine fig, I’ve wanted to get some more of those clawed hands! But the irony of all this, is that those clawed hands delayed this review by nearly six months!

Look, long story short, I broke one of the hands mid review 😢

(needless to say it was a rough day for me)

Both of these hands arrived a bit bent and a little out of shape because yet again, another customizer sent their wolverine claws attached to the fig! It’s the number one culprit for bent claws and it happened AGAIN!

These photos were taken moments before disaster. In the process of photographing them and being a little to hasty in bending them back into shape, one of the claws snapped clean off! 😬

And of course it was the thing I was most excited for :(

So after snapping the claw (and certainly not crying about it or cursing out into the void for a good ten minutes), I got in contact with my reseller that very same day back in late July. They understandably encouraged me to talk with Jaka directly.

Jaka of course replied offering to replace the piece. But then a month rolled by and nothing. Then another month… and another! It’s been radio silence since then and frankly I’m just tired of waiting! I missed out on all the hype of the movie AND the fact that these figs were printed and sent out to collectors BEFORE the movie was even out!

Like that’s unheard of! Really cool stuff, but man I really missed my moment to chat about them by a country mile!

Gosh I feel like an idiot...

But whatever, I’m doing it now because I’m loving these figs and there’s still a lot more to talk about! Other than hot weather and tight shipping warping the claws, every other aspect of this fig is great! From the print, to the parts!

Well… it’s a shame the sides of the torso aren’t printed…. But does it need it? Eh, maybe not?

This fig is much less textured than some of Jaka’s recent releases. It’s got a much more simple approach to its over all design and in some ways, it lends itself to feel more “Lego Like” However in my mind it makes the lower half of the fig look wildly busy. So a little more balance using side torso printing might have helped with the visual choppiness this fig has? It’s not really a deterring factor for me at the end of the day. Just an interesting design choice seeing as Jaka has printed the sides of torsos in the past.

The two sets of arms were greatly appreciated! Makes the fig feel a little more customizable and versatile. Especially when you take toy photography into consideration and you wanna get as many shots for your money’s worth. When a character is gonna look different in different moments, it’s nice to have options! Jaka didn’t have to make extra arms, but they did!

And then they went even farther to include the mounted shoulder plates on the arms!

These things are great not only because they look good, but because they don’t limit the poseability at all!  Woo! They’re so tiny and simple, but add so much to the look of this fig!

Funny (not so funny) story though, I did drop the fig at one point after already breaking the claws, and nearly lost one of those shoulder pads as it got launched across the room and up into a bookshelf about four feet off the ground!

In a manner of speaking this review featured some serious stress testing, and boy was I stressed when I scoured my office floor for close to 15mins 😵‍💫

But since we’re chatting about custom parts, the hair shaping is good. It’s pretty indicative of the weird hair Hugh has in the movie. I think Jaka could have made the tips of the “ears” a little sharper and less rounded, but I think that’s my personal taste. This hair looks 100% like something Lego themselves would produce!

It's pretty scrappy on the inside though, and the sideburns also float outward away from the head piece at certain angles... so it's not perfect. It's an easy enough photoshop fix, but I shouldn't have to do that every time I photograph this lil guy

As for the cowl, it’s wonderful, but some of its molded linework gets lost in the ink I’m afraid. It’s a bit of the PCB Iron Man / Mando syndrome again, where the 3D model certainly had more definition, but once the element was painted, some of that definition becomes lost.

You can still sorta make out the lines on the wings and the back of the head, but they’re much more subtle than I’d like. I couldn't even tell that there were molded lines in the yellow areas until I saw these photos myself on a large computer screen (and even then you can barely see them!). I think overall it may have needed one more round of production testing before sending it out to the people.

That being said, these kinds of quality checks can come at the cost of timing. Given that this fig (plus Deadpool) had no preorder wait and were in my mailbox less than a week after I ordered them, I can understand the rush. Even designing the thing must have been a challenge since there wasn’t exactly easily viewable source material prior to the movie release.

No doubt Jaka and co had been working on this fig for months before any leaks about the mask being in the movie came to light.

It’s a shame this piece isn’t better though. The cowl doesn’t fully line up with the mouth for my particular copy, and I sorta wish it didn’t cover so much of the upper lip area

Ironically, it looks pretty good on some other Wolverine figs though 🤷🏻‍♂️

All things said, I’m actually kinda surprised the Deadpool fig impressed me a bit more. I certainly didn’t expect that! 😆

At the end of the day, this is a great fig even with all my crappy opinions about it, or my big fingers breaking the thing! Really good stuff Jaka! We love to see it!
