Mmmm… that candy apple red is soooooo good 🤤
What an impressive looking figure! Jin has yet again revolutionized what it means to make custom minifigs! Just look at this thing! Wow!
Not only that, but the use of magnets is very well planned out! I mean come on! Four in the faceplate alone! Plus another in the torso for that cool chest plate! How cool!
It’s a bit playfully ironic that all of this innovative magnetic tech is being used for ol’ shell head! However we’ve already seen this faceplate concept before from Jin’s MCU Ant-Man (so technically it’s not the most absolute newest concept, but still very fresh!)
Now, when structuring these reviews I try my best to focus on Design, Prints, and Parts, all in their own segments, but something about this fig is so symbiotic with each of its elements that I inevitably will bounce around a little.
Like how the print for the arms are fully gold lacquered and specifically designed to match with these custom armor “sleeves”. One simply wouldn’t work without the other. They add a thickness to the overall silhouette that I absolutely love! And talking about depth again, the actual gold arm underneath it all feels correctly scaled and sculpted.
[editor’s note: I’m too much of a chicken to remove those hands for the sake of not breaking those TEENY TINY little hand covers. (this thing was expensive you guys, I’m brave, but not that brave) 😬]
But speaking about the armor, the entire concept of this chest armor plate sort of implies a depth to this fig that I absolutely adore! Like how cool it is that I can not only shoot this fig in action hero shots, but also dissect it a little, make a little workbench for it, and photograph Tony Stark tinkering with the thing!
Or even just having Tony hold a piece or two of the armor as if it’s being built is such a treat!
But two steps forward, one step back… due to the nature of the candy-apple red, the head and helmet would not separate for me. I couldn’t even get it to twist. It’s a shame I couldn’t see more of that face print or swap it with the included ball-joint head… 😔
I really like how even on the back of the fig, there’s an extra sense of depth of those flight guides on his back! They add so much to the bulk of this suit!
While this fig clocked in at a very hearty $140, I could have also spent an additional $140 to have gotten the battle damaged version (that also came with some alternate flight accessories) but the Patreon fund can only take me so far before the funds run out.
It was actually something I was seriously contemplating for a while before time ran out and the preorder expired 😔
From what I understand, it had a different flight-guide armor piece that protruded from his back, plus all the scuff and scrapes were printed in a matte-like stone grey, plus some silver highlights around the seams of the armor pieces.
Here’s Jin’s official render of it so we can all yearn for it in unison…
*sigh*
But for this fig right here on my desk, I still love it! If anything else, I would have liked Jin to have included some flight/blast effects like they’ve done with some of their past Iron Man figs, however I don’t think I could’ve afforded this fella if he did, so perhaps that’s a good thing? 😅
All in all, this has easily become one of, if not my favorite Iron Man figs I’ve got in the collection! It’s seriously impressive!
Shame ya can’t turn the hands though...
