ExcelsiorCustoms / PickleBrick's Vladimir Sokov Red Lantern! (Patreon)

I’m sure you’re all looking at this one and saying “Vladi-who now?” Because I did the exact same thing when Excelsior/Pickle launched this one!

This character is SUPER new to the mythos of GL. Like no joke, he first started showing up in DC books in May 2024. In terms of the Golden Age Green Lantern from the 1940s, Vladimir is a baby! Especially considering him being made into a custom fig!

Here’s the TLDR of this character if ya don’t know. Basically he’s a Soviet 1940s Red Lantern (that weirdly has nothing to do with the Red Lanterns Corps yet), and instead harnesses the power of The Crimson Flame. I quite enjoy the concept and find it funny how yet again, DC created another evil dopplganger! 😆

But in terms of Lego custom print production… it’s a recolor fig of Alan Scott with some minor design changes, but extremely rare (if you can call it that) to have gotten in custom minifig form! I genuinely don’t think anyone has ever printed him before! Not even knock-off brands! This fig very well might be breaking new ground! Exciting! :)

One thing that's a bit more original is the facial designs. The expressions are great, and I love the beard detail on this guy too! Very swooshy looking with the bits of grey!

It’s funny to look at this fig solo. Because those boots are SO long! I mean if they were going for a thigh-high look, I’d get it, but this design leaves them just waaay to big (also the color matching isn’t great but eh… not the end of the world)

But place it next to the Alan Scott fig and well… things start to make more sense...

Their boot sizes match in height due to the rope detailing needing room. But without any kind of texture or linework to fill the gap, that blue is just too simple and plain for my taste (even though it's right and fine and okay and it’s fine. I just don’t like it for some dumb reason)

Weird how the brain works...

The cape is again hard plastic and didn’t need to be anything complex. It matches well with Lego’s current design aesthetics and makes sense for what these two modern versions of the character are being modeled after.

I didn’t mention it in the other review, but it’s a shame neither fig included a lantern piece to hold. Guess I’ll just have to include my own…🤔

$56 for this fig too! Again, a very reasonable price! …and yeah… that’s all I got! Very cool to have gotten this new character! 👍🏻
