Well isn’t this a treat! FunnyBrick has not only brought us a comic adaptation of a character, but a modern one at that!

I’m so used to custom comic figs being based around the old school designs of the 60s-80s, but this fig here is a rather pleasant departure from the norm!

As mentioned in the title, this look is based on the artwork by Marco Checchetto in Chip Zdarsky’s 2019 run with the character (the whole five issues that is). Funnybrick absolutely nailed the details and the lego-ification of Daredevil's vibe! The custom parts are lovley, but that print design! Wow!

There’s a subtle detail all over this fig that I really adore! Something about those lovely sketch lines just all over this thing that just sings to me! Wherever there’s black linework, there’s these tiny fuzzy sketch lines that are small enough to miss from far away, but when up close and personal you can really enjoy them!

It's charming aspect of FunnyBrick’s design that really helps this fig to look comic-esq in the best ways possible, while still staying true to Lego’s own design aesthetics!

FB’s color choices are also really nice, and a different take on how MrJ handled it.... That orangy-red for the emblem/lining is perfect! And that tiny square of silver for the belt really shows an attention to detail that I really admire! They could have just cut costs and left it red, but nope, gotta have that little splash of silver! :)

Now not only is the print work solid, but the parts are great as well! That cowl for one thing is the STAR of the show! This is easily the best custom cowl FB could have designed. It has that ever familiar half-cut like LifeBrick’s amazing MCU Daredevil figs! Only this time, in a nice bright color and some extra ink that really goes a long way! Printing the eyes over a Daredevil cowl should always be the way to go! To get it like this for a comic fig is a real treat!

It has a strong (if not a bit to snug) fit for a custom headpiece. So, not the easiest to remove or put on a minifig head, but I’ll take that little bit of struggle for what we’ve got here!

Oh and because I was extra curious… here it is on MuddyRiverMinifig’s old fig (based off the video game) from waaaay back in the day (2013-14ish?)

It almost works together, if not for the slight “overbite” of that figs printed cowl peeking out underneath this one!

Speaking of which, here’s how FB's fig looks next to MRM’s fig, and Lego’s Official Daredevil (with some added Ninjago legs)!

The design evolution of these is very satisfying :)

FunnyBrick's fig also came with some interesting wrist elements that are unfortunately designed with neutral poses in mind. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still super cool! But not so much when you pose up the fig...

Thankfully FB might have thought about this since the arms have fully printed in the situation where you’d like to remove these custom parts :)

Last thing to show off is this set of escrima sticks and some bendy wire! Oooo! (that’s gotta be a first for me! I’ve never gotten bendy wire with a custom fig before, so this is kinda neat!)

The wire can be slotted into the bars for some cool action shots, but anything heavier than a minifig won’t be supported midair. The slots themselves are extremely small though (see them here next to a ballpoint pen)

Regardless of their microscopic size, they function well enough and don’t fall out without some significant wiggle works (yes, that’s the technical term I am choosing to coin as I flail this little Daredevil around my office)

The $80 price tag felt just right for this guy! Quality print work married with some great parts and design! It’s good! Really good! And this is only the the beginning!

FunnyBrick made a handful of variant figs that (shocker) I actually picked up! So keep an eye out for that review tomorrow ;)
