FunnyBrick / MrJ Brick's Marco Checchetto Electra (Patreon)
Content
You thought I was done with Daredevil stuff? Well no! To top it all off FunnyBrick collaborated with MrJBrick to make this fantastic Electra!
So… is this supposed to have matched up with MrJ’s own Daredevil figs? Because this is heavily matching more with the Marco Checchetto designs we’ve been looking at all week! Right down to FunnyBrick’s sketch lines and all!
But that would mean that Jin’s Electra was solely their own project then and wasn't related to those DD figs at all…? To be honest gang, there have been too many of these Daredevil’s and Electra’s shipped to me in the last six months and I’m overwhelmed 😵💫
But look, we’re all wondering the same thing, so let’s just cut to the chase here! Jin vs FunnyBrick (and MrJ too I guess)
Side-by-side, these two figs are the pinnacle of “artist interpretation”
JinCustoms took on the old school Frank Miller approach, while FunnyBrick/MrJ tackled a newer design language that we’ve been chatting about all week. Both are great! Let’s just end the debate there! They’re both amazing! To have two Electra’s in my collection before even Lego themselves have made one is super special!
That being said, the heavier linework for FunnyBrick/MrJ’s fig just makes it feeeeeel more like Lego in my perspective. Not to mention Jin’s facial design isn’t as great...
Idk… they’re both amazing pieces and I’m just gonna leave you with that!
But now! Back to the fig this post was all about! Here’s some other highlights!
I really like this headpiece! The fluffy shorter hair is very fun! The plastic resin used for the piece also reassures me that those two red ties won’t snap any time soon! They hardly even bend under pressure!
The waist "cloth" piece is nice too! But unfortunately the fig relies on it pretty strongly to complete Electra’s look. Without it, things just don’t work out as FunnyBrick didn’t print the shawl on the legs underneath.
The fig’s lower half is rather limited for posing when it is attached. Bit of a bummer too when you consider that FB/MrJ fully printed the legs 360°. But... why do that at all if you’ll never get the chance to pose them? Or if so, why not give us two different shawls so you could get her into some cool action shots and show off that inner boot printing?
Odd how this one custom element negates all that nice print-work....
But the last thing for custom parts comes in the form of shiny silver ink!
The Sai are great! But a little big. Especially when you take into consideration that from tip to tip, they are the length of a minifigure’s head and torso. Although to be fair, most “official Lego” weapons are a little large, so I think it gets a pass. But just barely!
My final note is that I really enjoy the red choker collar FB printed/painted on the neck. Nice and subtle little touch that does a lot for the color blocking. It’s a detail of the character Jin’s fig pretty clearly omitted.
There were even MORE chase-variant figs with Electra here, but again, I didn’t need to spend another huge chunk of change for something I could just edit in photoshop if I really wanted to… but anyway, here’s what those looked like:
At the end of the day, $75 wasn’t bad either! It’s a good fig! I’m happy I got one! No idea what to shoot with her right now, but I’m sure something will come of it eventually! 😆
