MrJBrick's Juggernaut (Patreon)

Now that’s one beefy boy!
Unlike MrJ's last stab at a Midfig, this one was a serious upgrade! This time around, it takes inspiration from others in the community! Most notably with the "upper torso" concept we've seen a few times now...
So I'm happy to see that MrJ has followed suit with a great character choice! But does it work? Is it too “out there”?
I mean, maybe? The more cartoonish proportions of this guy take a minute to get used to, but next to a minifig it sorta makes sense! He looks a bit funny, but it kinda works!
Let’s just take a look at the big picture here though! It scales well, it’s well printed, and it’s got some new ideas! That alone is worth it to me! But there are some funny things about this MidFig that we’ll discover together that can make or break this for some folks.
Certainly the overall bulky concept will be the first hurdle. But for me it’s more about the execution. Can those hands actually hold things? Is the possibility good? Are there any unsightly bits?
Well yes, to all three! But we’ll get there!
I wanna start off with posing this fella, because I’m actually quite impressed! Other than the lack of hand rotation, this is almost fully comparable to a minifig. Yes, even the head can swivel (to a point… but I’ll come back to this too)
The arms have a sort of “soft ratcheting” to them. They don’t loosely spin, but rather have points where the arms will easily click into place. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the arms off easily so I couldn’t quite visually confirm this, but you can 100% feel the clutch as you're rotating them.
I was also worried that the boots would hinder front and back rotation of the legs, but thankfully no such problem occurred! Oddly enough, the boots are actually glued to the legs and couldn’t be removed.
A bit reminiscent of MrJ’s glued holsters, only I’m not nearly as frustrated as I am with this big fella! :)
I mentioned that the head can swivel, but the head and helmet are on different rotational axis. Rotate them both and there comes a bit of weird alignment with the eyes/mouth/helmet, but technically there are no limitations in the posing. Especially if you cheese it like I have here and let the head just float in the neck socket since there’s not an actual peg holding it in place
If you keep on course with this “loose head” idea for posing, you can even give him some hair (that was sorely lacking from the final product)
Speaking of goofin around with that helmet, there’s some weird gappage at the bottom that probably only bugs me specifically. But it’s worth pointing out.
Without the helmet on, his proportions make him look a bit like Strong Guy (yes that’s actually a real Marvel X-Men character, look it up)
But take away the muscles and it keeps getting weirder! This is what you’re left with! Again, the proportions on this guy are whackadoo, but I chuckled every time I added or removed parts 🤣
Dissecting him even further gets us the chance to finally look at some of these custom parts in detail. Both the helmet and belt are nicely made pieces!
The “upper torso" is a very interesting concept that’s only been explored a little bit by a handful of customizers. The community is only just beginning to scratch the surface of this MidFig concept so different brands have been taking different approaches. MrJ opted for theirs to be fully fused to the torso, without the intention to remove it. You can kinda see there’s a little bit of glue inside the torso, but it wasn’t strong enough for meeeeee 😈
Actually it was hardly glued at all. It came off the torso no sweat. Honestly, I was kinda surprised to find glue up in there at all.
You can see that there are also some slight bumps where the traditional minifig torso would snap the arm sockets into place. Those two little bumps certainly gave me more resistance than the glue did when I put everything back together.
Oh and before I forget, yes! The hands can hold bar sized Lego Official elements! Woo! Although my particular copy, the left hand was far more snug than the right hand (so I couldn’t fully insert an element to that side 🤷🏻♂️)
It’s also bit funny to compare this fig to L1N6’s fig from a few years back. That old fig is still perfectly serviceable, just at a different scale! Although L1N6’s helmet looks more like an egg than I remember 😆
At the end of this review, all I can really say is that I had a really fun time dissecting this thing and learning how it all came together! This big guy was just under $100, and I’m very impressed!
MrJ has a Hulk coming our way soon that has a similar concept, so I’m very keen to check that out when they're finished with it! Maybe even one day we’ll get a Colossus MidFig from them? 🙏🏻
Only time will tell!
