WW84 Take 2! (Patreon)
Content
Well after unpacking the fig and doing my diligent close-up scrutinizing… I’ve gotta say I expected this to be the weaker of the two WW84 figs, but… I can’t quite bring myself to admit it :P
The mismatched gold was a bit of a shame at first. While the fig was printed on Lego’s pearl gold plastic, a majority of the torso’s print has this sort of dark-gold ink that doesn't quite match anything Lego uses in their color palette. Then couple that with the fact that the armor and accessories are a tad brighter than the pearl gold of the fig… it can be a bit off putting when you see it all together.
However... to completely negate what I just said, the designer(s) may have taken that into consideration when producing the fig!
There are sections throughout the fig (it’s most noticeable across the back of the torso; but it’s used throughout) where there’s no print whatsoever and the pearl gold of the plastic actually comes through very strongly.
This execution of negative print (for lack of a better term) is sprinkled throughout the entire figure from the boots, to under the emblem and, even the upper parts of the hips/legs. It’s genuinely a really neat way to simulate reflections of a chromed character without it being legitimately chromed.
It's kinda wild to me that this fig only uses black and two shades of gold ink for the entire figure and yet it looks this good! (though the head print isn't anything to shout about)
While we’re talking about the head though... I’d like to remind you all again that up until this figure arrived at my door, I’d never seen the final head-print design and frankly it does the job fine. But those eye’s feel too far apart unfortunately. Also no double sided head is a shame considering the headpiece would have easily covered it. And I can say with certainty that if the legs/torso can have a full 360degree print, the head could have too.
But hey, enough gushing over the print, let’s talk about the custom parts! ...Tomorrow! :P
