The Custom Bat-Parts! (Patreon)
Content
As far as custom elements go, I’ve never had a problem with BlackStar’s quality! All of these pieces are fantastically designed and very well produced! They all have a nice “Lego Shine” to them and the printing on the insides of the two capes are wonderful!
Now this may come down to the packaging, but you can really see in these photos just how many fingerprints and dust were on them right out of the box. That kind of stuff can be really easy to notice on black, but yeah… I just think it should be noted… I’m just not a big fan of dirty figs out of the box.
But while we’re on the topic of let-downs, the biggest bummer for me in this entire group of parts is that the over-shoulder cape doesn't fit on a fig with arms on!
Boo! Lame! Come on BlackStar, that’s not cool!
(okay I take it back, I’m sure it was a conscious engineering decision to make the piece more sturdy but BOO!) I wasn’t happy to discover that any time I wanna swap out the capes I gotta yank off the arms of a $90 figure and risk the torso cracking every time. That’s a bummer, so I guess that will just never happen because I am not gonna damage a figure this cool and rare.
Ugh…
Now regardless of a little dirt and some arms that will never get ripped from their sockets… these are still phenomenal figures! Now it could very well be my nostalgic monkey brain talking, but guh! I’m seriously gushing over these two oh my gosh!
I’m genuinely floored by these two just… wow! I thought I’d never see the day that someone would accurately portray my favorite version of Batman in lego form! The audible squeaky squeal my body somehow made when I first saw them up for pre-order…. I couldn’t even possibly figure out how to type it…. But trust me when I say that these have literally been the two minifigs I’ve wanted most since I began collecting custom figs nearly a decade ago! They finally exist and they were made immaculately!
Not only did BlackStar blow it out of the water with Batman, but printing a Robin to go along as a pair was a genius and generous choice!
...Now if only somebody out there would print an animated Superman fig, then my life would be truly complete ;)
