MrJ Brick Harley Quinn (Javelin Variant!) (Patreon)

MrJBrick is at it again! Another killer DC fig with great custom parts! I was already impressed right out of the clamshell!
One of the first things to jump out at me were the finite details in the printing work; specifically for that microscopic text of the tattoos. They are really well applied and legible at such a small scale! Really impressive stuff! Not to mention that the design translation in general is quite solid. The layers of the dress look natural enough in the shaded areas without (what could have) been a very over designed aspect of the fig.
I think the only thing that weirds me out (print wise) is the face. For one thing, there's a teeny tiny little bit of extra space between the eyes. That, and I think that the smile is on a cartoonishly large scale. It works well out of context (like if this was an animated version of Harley), but for it being a version of Margot Robbie’s look… eh…I think that’s more personal taste though, but you see what I mean, right? It’s a bit off from the standard lego facial shape that we’re all familiar with.
(you could probably say the same thing about the eyeliner/eyeshadow going on… giving the eyes a more pointed shape than what we’re used to…)
((look I think my problem is just with those eyes))
(((okay now I can't not stop seeing them without getting weirded out)))
((((it’s like they’re staring into my soul… oh god those eyes! why?!?!?))))
*deep breath*
…
As far as parts go, that off-white (dare I say pearl) colored hair is really neat! It’s nice and glossy, and minus some extra ink on the inside, it’s really clean. But really, that color is so cool and miiiight be my favorite part of this fig honestly.
Of course, that Javelin is the star of the show in terms of craftsmanship (unfortunately, the way mine was packed left it with a slightly bent tip, but we’ll look past that)
Not only is the piece shaped with the indentations of the sourced metal work (which frankly would have been good enough by my standards), but the whole piece is printed too! Now if I’m honest, it does take away a bit of the bright shiny gold that I’d personally like to see under that print…
Aaaaand to be fair, it’s not the most screen accurate element at such a distorted Lego scale anyway (bit short if you ask me), but MrJBrick certainly took a decent swing at it though. Whatever they were going for here, they knocked it out of the park in terms of their production!
Again, I personally would have still preferred to get a longer version with a two handed placement of the dark red handle like it is in the film (same thing with wanting a bit more shine), but still… this is really good element no matter how you take it.
With a pretty limited run of 60 copies (meh), but at an $80ish price point (oh yeah), MrJ once again brings it home for the DC fan in me!
They’ve really done a great job with their recent wave of new figs! (Peacemaker also showed up in this package, so you can expect him in the next few days!)
What do you guys think though? Does that face give you nightmares like me? Is that Javelin too stubby or too pointy?
Let me know! :)
