Here we go again! MrJBricks Squad Figs! Round two! *ding ding ding!*

Right out of the clamshell, this big guy looks awesome! Like damn, they couldn’t have made a more perfect fig if they tried!

…well except for the face…

But everything ELSE though! Phew! MrJ is on a roll right now! As far as design translation is concerned, the combination of simplicity and detailing work is balanced so well! MrJBrick has really brought their A-Game with these last few releases, and this fig is no exception!

Now the likeness to John Cena is pretty close with that big chin and all, but the big goofy grin is a bit much, and the neutral head has some weird lookin lips that I just can’t ignore. Just like with their recent Harley fig, MrJ clearly had a cartoonish intention of what they were going for in the faces that they nailed it for sure… but compared to the rest of the fig it just doesn't really fit.

Now get rid of that head, and the rest of this fig matches the Lego-look with a good amount of negative space, while still producing a fig that looks and feels like an expensive, quality-made figure. That’s a hard thing to accomplish.

But let’s get to the meat and potatoes!

My favorite part of this fig has got to be the helmet! It’s just killer! The chrome job isn’t too shabby for one thing, as there’s no major particles or chunks under the chrome application. Then of course the definition of the piece is really crisp!

We’ve seen before that a piece can be rendered in the computer with mold-lines and shapes to sell a pre-order, but after a coat of paint or chrome like this, those details can get lost at such a small scale. But not with this element! The Dove of Peace on the forehead isn’t lumpy or blurred, and the lines/indentations are all sharp and tight throughout. It’s absolutely excellent and again really feels Lego-like even down to the small nose shaping, all while it lines up perfectly with standard minifig heads!

The gun is gigantic! Nearly the length of the figure itself!

In my opinion, it’s a bit of an odd choice to have the square grip handle, rather than a round Lego 1L Bar like a Brickarms or Si-Dan custom gun. But you can see why it’s not round… well you can see why if you look really really reeeeeeally close…

The square handle allows for the Dove of Peace to be engraved into that white plastic, though it’s VERY hard to see with the naked eye, and even harder to photograph, clearly. It’s a shame that this doesn’t show up better because that “design vs engineering” compromise means that the gun won’t fit easily into the hand... you can force it in there but like... it feels like you're gonna rub off that molding if you do that more than a half-dozen times.

The entire thing looks more like it belongs to an action figure or something… *shrug*

In the end I just swapped it out all together for a BigKidBrix chromed handgun. It also matches better with the helmet anyway.

Oh and I was dumb and forgot to take photos of the gauntlet gloves. They’re on par with Brickforge vambraces, only with more of a matte finish to them. Nothing to complain about! :)

Now regardless of the gun and the weird face, the quality of everything you get here is excellent, as it has been with the recent MrJ releases! That 360 torso print looks great and the red/blue sleeves on the arms are nice and crisply applied!

Crisp…ly… crisplely… chrisppsps

…words are weird

Seriously though, MrJ’s recent DC releases have been just excellent! Only $85 for this one! And a preorder wait time of just two months (not counting shipping or my packed posting schedule) I ordered it in January and it was here before the end of March (yeah yeah I know I’ve gotten a little back-logged)

But yeah! A great price and a quick turn around!

Can’t get any better than that! :)
