Abnormal's "The Batman" 5pk Review - The Riddler! (Patreon)
Content
I put out a poll a few weeks back and this huge five-figure review is what y’all wanted to see first! So here it is! (this took forever btw… I’m very tired and I just want to take nap)
Anyway! Let’s get cracking and start us off with a huge rhetorical question… Abnormal how can you be so good and yet be still so bad?! ...you'll come to see what I mean over the next week but for now... let's talk about the smell...
It’s become a tradition of Abnormal figs to be smelly out of the package, and this five figure pack was VERY potent when they arrived! That off gassing factory-paint scent was so strong I actually held off a day or so to let the odor die down.
All five figs came in this black paper stock tray/sleeve with an encoded “Riddler Message” that, judging by the number of symbols, probably says “Abnormal” but I’m not gonna cypher it because who has time for that!
Oddly enough there were only four tins in the sleeve which gave me a minor panic attack at first thinking I was missing one. But after opening them each one at a time, the titular Batman fig was discovered in pieces among the four tins.
It was like an anxiety induced scavenger hunt thinking you’ve just lost money on an expensive collectible minifig… so that’s fun… *glares directly at the camera*
The Riddler was the first fig I opened so we’ll start with him!
Those trans-clear glasses easily impressed me the quickest! Plus the alignment with the head print underneath was impressive!
The other first thing I noticed (dare I say the second thing) was the shoulder-resting hood being the wrong color of green compared to the rest of the fig… There’s printing on the upper front of the torso that suggests that this brighter tan-green was maaaybe intentional? However the little 2x3 collectors tile shows it as a different color from the fig so... idk.
I’m not super duper hyper aware of The Riddler’s coat so maybe this is accurate… but just from an unboxing perspective it looked weird and wrong and it bugged me so much that I swapped it out with a dark green hood after the review was over.
I don’t think the headpiece was intended to be removed. You can see on the stud of the minifig head, as well as inside the custom headpiece, there’s glue residue! Suggesting that I shouldn't have been able to pull this part off. So maybe I’ve broken it…?
The duct tape accessory is fun, though it’s too small to fit over a stud, and too big to fit a bar element snugly. I took photos of it on top of a standard Lego candle stick here so you can see what I mean. So points off there for not fitting into the Lego system (jesus I sound pretentious sometimes)
Despite the duct tape I would have loved if this fig came with the carpet tool murder weapon from the film! Though I understand that these five figs were already in production before the movie was released so I’ll give that a pass.
The leg design (despite being mostly dark grey) were printed over olive green legs, so when you pose the fig it doesn’t look weird around the hip area! Woo! That’s great! However it does make the bottom of the feet look a little odd. But I’d rather take this method of print application any day! It really improves the poseability with a fig like that!
So overall… it’s a solid fig, not perfect, but not Abnormal's worst fig! So far it’s in first place and last place for this five figure review!
Let’s see what tomorrow holds!
