KO Customs Colossus Review! (Patreon)
Content
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, KO Customs have really mastered the classic adaptation of the John Byrne X-Men, and this Colossus is another in a growing line of excellent X-Figures!
Now I gotta put it on the table that I still Colossus makes more sense as a BigFig, but regardless of my personal taste, this really does the character some great justice! We’ve only had one other Colossus figure (that being from L1n6) and I’ll try my best not to compare until the end!
…but between you and me I think I already like this one better (shhhh don’t tell Ling!)
The design for this guy is really Lego-Like! It fits really well not only with official figs, but the other customs in KO’s X-Men series as well! The simplicity of the translation is really what impresses me every time with KO figs and yet again they really got the essential details down excellently!
I really enjoy the facial designs a lot! Perhaps the neutral expression is printed a little high up on the head, but it’s not enough to bug me.
From quality alone, it’s clean linework throughout the entire fig! The print applications are really nice, but the shiny speckled silver is what takes the cake!
It’s a shame the yellow is a bit faint though. Could have used maybe one more layer of ink applied? I gotta give KO credit that at the very least, all the yellow is consistent across the entire figure. No mismatched shades like other custom figs… it’s just a constant faded yellow that could have used a final layer of ink in my opinion.
Now this might sound a little critical, but I feel this fig would have benefited from some side-torso printing to continue the belt, but that’s not quite KO’s MO. I think it’s the collector in me that finds it a bit blank in those areas, but it’s honestly not a required printing space. It’s just noticeably plain when you put the fig into certain poses.
Now when it comes to posing, we gotta talk about the hands. KO did make a point of including a second pair of hands with the fig in standard light bluish grey. My assumption was that they were for the fig when it is holding items or placing items on top of them, but it didn’t occur to me that just rotating the hands would cause them to chip.
In the included photo you can see just how torn up they got within the hour or so I photographed this fella. It’s a bit of a bummer but I also have no one to blame by myself :)
This is great! I love reviewing minifigs that I can easily and accidentally scuff the paint job before owning them longer than a day! It’s my favorite! :) :) :) :)
(that’s called sarcasm for those in the back of the audience)
But seriously! The design and shine of this fig really carry it a long way! Other than those few rather minor nitpicks, this is yet another home run for KO Customs! Like seriously I’m continually impressed by their products!
Oh and of course this fig, like several of their figs over 2022, didn’t have a preorder wait! I paid a decent $80 for it around the new year and it arrived at my door before the end of the week!
With the simplicity in the design, the manageable price, and the quick speed, bigger major customizers could learn a thing or two from KO! :)
As for KO’s future projects, I’m really hoping for a classic blue/yellow Cyclops next, but we’ll see!
*fingers crossed*
