L1N6 Minifigures Galactus Review! (Patreon)
Content
After the initial shock at the size of this guy, I've finally formed my thoughts into something cohesive that isn’t just fanatic sputtering and foaming at the mouth!
What a genuinely fun idea to print over those upscaled strange keychain flashlights! (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, look up Lego Keylights, I ain’t doing your homework!)
To my understanding, those weird key-lights are rather hard to buy in bulk, and given that only 40 of these Galactus customs were made, it’s a miracle that this fig was only $130! I’ve paid more than that for LifeBrick Spider-Man figs! So however you want to look at this I find that the price is already worth the fig, hands down. However, is it the perfect fig? Well let’s get into it!
Now the big blaring thing I didn’t like about this fella is his color. Frankly I would have preferred to see a dark purple and rich magenta as the two primary colors (like the video game AND the knock off fig). I find that the light pink is a bit too bright for my taste. This could have been a production decision though, as I don’t recall the original renders teasing anything about the color being so bright.
The printing quality is good stuff coming from L1n6! The helmet print in particular really stands out for me with the white and sandy grey/blue accents. Really sharp and clean stuff on both sides!
When it comes to the fig itself, L1n6 did a good job of hiding the square key-light button on the front, and warning text on the back of the torso. They even incorporated the battery plating screws into the design which I really appreciate!
(no it didn’t include batteries)
However we need to talk about this big head under the helmet!
The top stud of the fully printed-over head looks just nasty. It’s genuinely the most scraggly aspect to any L1n6 fig to date! I’m not entirely sure if it’s glue to keep the helmet in place (because the helmet came off easily with no indication of fusion) or perhaps if it’s residue from the light flesh ink color rubbing off (but again there’s no evidence inside the helmet to suggest that either) So there’s no real answer here.
Same would be said about the eyes. When you have the two parts combined, the print alignment for the eyes isn’t great. There’s a bit of black from around the eyes poking out from under the mask that can be a bit distracting from lower angles. Feels almost like an oversight.
It’s super obvious once you notice it. It’s not anywhere on the collectors 6x6 tile.
Why the fig was printed with a black rectangle around both eyes instead of two squares or ovals instead is beyond me. Hell, if they really wanted that black to stay connected between the eyes, they could have just warped the black upward and formed the same shape as the helmet.
Weird stuff going on from the neck up (despite how incredible the helmet turned out)
Now my personal gripes and opinions aside, it’s a pretty clean print over all the entire figure (including the back of the torso) yest nothing on the arms… like at all… so that’s a bummer...
But the good outweighs the bad in just sheer concept and size alone!
No customizer out there has printed something like this on a key-light and whether you want to focus on the gritty details alone, you can’t argue with how this is a fundamentally innovative collectors piece!
This was an absolute must-buy for me even if it wasn’t absolutely perfect
I will cherish this big guy for a very long time to come! :)
