Ayyeeeeeee 😎

Somebody FINALLY printed up classic Star Trek Movie figs!

Woooo!

They’re nice and simple! Honestly I couldn’t have asked for more! :)

Nuno has done the bare minimum and it’s at least enough of a high quality product for me to chat about with you!

Let’s start with the updated hairpiece!

Comparing it to the last release of this element, it’s more refined for starters. The black ink for the hair is more reserved and only coats the outside of the piece. Not to mention that the black is more of a matte shading than a reflective black of the last version. It helps with defining the hair mold much better, and also fits better to the head!

Good improvements all around! :)

However… I’d be a poor reviewer if I didn’t talk about Nuno's design infringement and uh… well the future of my collection plans with this brand.

I mentioned it last time we took a look at one of their figs and it has only gotten worse as their presence in the community has grown.

As of recently, it’s become more widespread that Nuno rehashes a lot of other designs from other better customizers (most notably Jin and Christo). There’s not a lot to say in terms of design for thIS fig.

Nuno has always been a middle of the road “designer” for me. But this fig seems wholly original from what I can tell. You can really see the stiffness in the linework here in the belt and chest clasp both being so rectangular. Given that their TOS Spock was so fluid and the face was strangely out of place, this stifled design matches more with that odd facial design.

You can really see where they struggle, design wise.

But however you want to view them, Nuno did get the details in there for this uniform, like the two-toned gold Starfleet emblem, the solo armband, yadda yadda yadda. But like, the stripes down the pant legs should have been thicker (and orange for that matter), lines could have been curvier. The ruffled turtleneck could have looked less like hard straight lines and inked in a light grey instead of black.

There’s also some details they could have taken more liberties with and enlarged to fill the torso a little better. Hell, even some fabric wrinkles would have been nice!

(I’m beginning to think I don’t actually like this minifigure…)

Idk, there’s just a lot of dead space in the middle of the torsos that leaves a lot to be desired. But all that said, it’s outweighed by how glad I am to be holding THIS Starfleet uniform in my hands!

I would have probably splurged and gotten a few more than three if the design was better (sayin’ just sayin’)

While this might have been a little brief compared to my other reviews, here’s hoping these won’t be the last Trek figs we see…

They certainly don’t happen too often… :(

Nice review; you address the key issues of design and intellectual property. I wondered why you ordered three of the same fig--now I get it!
