LifeBrick's Rami Spider-Man! (Patreon)
Content
While I have a love/hate relationship with LifeBrick Spider-Men, these two new Rami figs fall pretty close to perfect… with a few exceptions!
LB truly knows how to print textures just beautifully and these figs are a perfect example of it! Not only that, but they’re still the masters of wrap-around 360° print that nobody has come close to matching in quite the same way!
Of course before I even get started, I’m sure the hoards of folks out there want me to compare them to Phoenix’s Spider-Figs! Don’t worry, we’ll get there in its own post! ;)
Starting off with the red and blue, LifeBrick has been on a roll with their figs lately! I mean just look at this thing! That silver is SO bright and crisp! The emblems are sharp! The texture work is fantastic! They even did a decent job with the facial designs for once!
I also really like the idea of the red around the neck on the Peter head! It’s subtle, but goes a long way to complete the look of this screen accurate legofication. It’s a shame that it’s not super cleanly applied. There is a little ink wiggling that creeps up here and there. Almost as if it were hand-painted.
The plain red hands also kind of bug me, but that’s not the end of the world. Hand printing is becoming more common, but it’s not a mainstay just yet. It’s something minor that I can live with.
However, my biggest gripe is the lack of blue print on the inner legs, leaving a huge bright red gap any time you pose the fig that just drives me nuts!
I tend to say this a lot, but if you’re gonna make a spider-fig, he’s gotta look good in a lot of poses and this right here...
This does not look good…
I mean it’s barely printed up the back of the legs! A slight forward or backward tilt and the fig loses its color blocking under the hips, and torso too! It’s a huge shame that LB didn’t print over dual molded legs because this feels like a huge disappointment!
So uh... how about we change the topic so I don't punch a hole through my screen!
“What about the custom parts!?” I hear you shout!
“Well I’m getting there!” I shout, equally frustrated!
I like the hair shaping! But what seems to be a catch phrase of mine… “it could have just used an official hairpiece!”
I mean look at it! It’s so similar to the official lego hairpiece that I’ve been using for years now, and somehow different enough to look unique. Sure it’s a step closer to that hyper accurate look, but there comes a point where I wish they didn’t waste my time and money.
Seriously, LB could have cut the price down a little and just used an official hair, but (you’ll see with the black/silver suit that we’ll talk about later) why the custom hair works better for me on that fig.
Thankfully though, this hairpiece isn’t overly designed and works well with the custom printed Peter head. I for one probably won’t use it much because it looks kinda funky with official Lego faces 🤷🏻♂️
And now… the cowl… *queue dramatic music*
LifeBrick’s spider cowl’s have never gotten me that excited. In fact, ever since LB started having sizing trouble, they’ve given me nothing but anxiety.
This fully print-textured, multi-layered, wrap around element is still an impressive technical achievement (regardless of your opinion)! In the past, LB just molded the cobweb lines into the plastic, but this is a whole new level of printing craftsmanship!
The black borders around the eyes are especially clean, and that texture work (while scaled up a little from the fig itself) looks just incredible!
The sizing however (big surprise here) is pretty tight! I’ve learned my lesson a few times before... and this time I used a blank head to test it’s clutch and the piece got snagged at the top, eventually (with some effort) attached over the blank head. Couldn’t get it back off though 😑
…ugh
However, with all those gripes aside, I still like it! It’s LB’s texture work that really sells this fig for me even after all the little complaints I have. The fig looks incredible and dynamic in lots of different lighting conditions (just like the real movie suit)!
All in all, it’s another impressive LifeBrick fig!
A bit pricy at $170, but it won’t be outdone any time soon!
