Saw lots of requests to do this ahead of the broadcast version. And I agree - too many cuts on the actual show last time.

These are just my first thoughts on these. I can expand on the broadcast.

Which one's your favorite??

bumsup and motiv’s

Apparently for Motiv Marlee helped edit and direct with everything basically. Also as an American their piece just meant so much. Especially during these times I think Marlee captured so much of what’s going on in America politically and social issues here in just one video. The video opens with a nod to the roots of hip-hop: breakdancers enter as the music shifts to old-school beats, paired with black-and-white film and black outfits which I think is a tribute to Black culture and the origins of hip-hop in the U.S. As the story unfolds, the dancers enter a freestyle battle scene. Here, red and blue outfits dominate which I believe is a clear representation of America’s political divide between the two major parties. The audience, dressed in white, symbolizes the general public, the innocent observers, caught in the middle, forced to take sides. At times, they turn away from the battle, reflecting how society often avoids confronting difficult truths. During the running scene a Black man dressed in white, running as red and blue lights flash on him. This is haunting representation of the realities Black men face in the USA with police brutality. His white clothing symbolizes innocence, which means he is being chased even though he didn’t do anything wrong Then it cuts to Fantaye running and in the scene all dancers are wearing red and the dance hits sort of a climax showing maybe the anger and pain people go through living in the US But they abruptly stop moving through their pain and anger and hope enters when a young girl, dressed in white. They also drop their fists at that moment when the kid walks toward them. I think this part showcased how adults try to hide the pain we face from kids and hope to protect them from the evil world. But Miyu( the kid) dances with the group and leads them. Her scene suggests that children carry the hope of the future — pure, untainted, and are able to lead us and help us remember to find our own peace. But in the high angle section the kid is now wearing red and the adults are white showing that even though adults move on our anger and trauma are also passed on.(this was confirmed by Marlee ) The video closes with a beautiful scene of women in white, dancing gracefully. The shift in music and movement portrays peace and healing. The focus on women in this final act highlights their strength and vital role in guiding communities toward unity. And also Miyu is seen carrying the flag which portrays again that the kids are the future and she walking around like she’s navigating herself through all these diverse groups of people which is what the US is. There is also so many scenes where you can see the representation and diversity in the crew, appreciating the different cultures and ethnic groups in the US, which is so beautiful at a time where being different is such a threat. Miyu ( the little girl) is also Indonesian and her carrying the flag I felt like was such a nod to how the US was built by immigrants and that is the identity of the US. Motiv doesn't just perform — they make a statement. Through dynamic choreography and powerful symbolism, this piece invites us to reflect on America’s past, confront its present, and hope for a more unified future. I also love the aspect of choose dance battlers for the special guests. Freestyle is the truest form of dance and is a huge part of hip pop history. It’s where it all began and choosing these dancers were such a statement I loved it 🥹 (Most of what I interpreted is from what I noticed and seen watching the video, but Marlee went on Live and cried about how she saw how so many people interpreted her piece and she was shocked to see how many people got her message and the story, hope she dives more into the story next ep)

That girl in Bumsup's performance is Roh Yoon-seo.

The girl in Motiv’s video is Miyu! She’s from Indonesia and she’s incredibly famous in the street dance scene. She’s already competing with adults and she’s only 12 years old 🤯

They were given a budget to hire their own crew and Marlee produced / edited hers while Ojo Gang got a company to do theirs

yayyyy new reaction<3 that dancer you recognized from motiv’s megacrew video was The Crown, he’s listed at the end as “David ‘The Crown’ Stalter”

I really liked motiv's performance. Maybe it's cause I'm biased, as someone from America, but I feel like their performance was the only one who told me the story and I was able to get it. Marlee, the leader, apparently directed and edited the entire video. She's the only one who did that I think, based on what I've heard. Also, I liked the video the best since it shows what's going on in USA subtly, but also obviously if that makes sense. Plus, they also showed another version of mega, with the part where they show the different ethnicities My second favorite is BUMSUP, I was seriously so impressed. At the moment though, I admittedly can't help but be disappointed with bumsup due to some specific comments they made about ag squad in a reaction video they posted to YouTube. I honestly can't get out of my mind when watching. Apparently some members talked about Danica's dancing in the first episode being just s3x, not dancing for example... I'm really trying to not let that affect the performance though, but it is kind of hard not to.

I’m biased AG was my fav but in terms of the challenge, they definitely did the worst.

The dancer that looks familiar to you in the motiv video is “the crown”, very famous battle/freestyle dancer.

For RH Tokyo I'm pretty sure they used the recontitution of the shibuya scramble. There is a studio for that. It would be the easiest way to do it

IdkIdkIdk

Ojo gang are pretty versatile like the way they edit other feels like kyoka is only able to do hiphop but she actually can do a lot of other styles likes heels !! Yeah she do and she’s amazing at it

My favorite first watch and overall, until now, is Bumsup. I dont even know how many times I've watched it. Second watch, Ojo def caught my attention (but also i just have a really bad girl crush on Kyoka rn hahaha). I def appreciate RH and Motiv incorporating the kids. I bet this will be a core memory for them :)

How I would rank them 1. Motiv This was a wild ride into showing what the US is about in dance. Incredible storytelling and the editing was phenomenal(shoutout Marlee for editing and directing it). Everything was just perfect and I personally could not add on ideas or pick out flaws. 2. RH tokyo Fun way of showing real Japanese locations and settings without it feeling disjointed. The dancing was less clean than others but the setting and story of showing what Japan and it's culture is about sold me. Rie Hata also just has an incredible eye for direction and camera work. 3. Bumsup Just a really solid overall traditional mega crew like previous SFW seasons, an that is imo the downside. They didn't explore other things. The dancing is really clean. But overall just middle of the pack 4/5. ojo gang/AG squad What I really dislike about these 2 is that they use cuts in both camera&location together with different music. Makes the whole thing feel like sections instead of 1 single piece. Jam republic also did this last season and they also ranked last for me there. The dancing is on a really high level, but in terms of creating 1 mega crew mission it just feels too disjointed imo.

My favorite is Bumsup. Just felt like 1 whole piece even though there are some cuts for different sections. Felt like the Mega crew the most. You can clearly see how creative the change of formations are and sections coz it flows so well..just like how a mega crew dance are. 2nd place is Motiv. If they could just show the travel or transition of formations more than just using a video cut to do it, it would have felt less of music video/performance video. Because some of the dance could have easily be just shown through moving the camera and not cutting so much. But love the black and white stuff, the hiphop history feels of it. And authentic hiphop feels. 3rd between 3 groups. AG Squad each sections was crazy good, if just looking at by section some of theirs are probably my favorite. But all together, im not sure. And too much video edit effect. Same for RH tokyo, so many different sections that doesn't seem like 1 piece. Maybe because of the different locations and then with the kids being on just 1 part, but in the end I'm not sure if all the dancers were actually there. The video overall is so cool though. Ojo gong does also feel like a megacrew mission but the different sections doesn't flow smoothly together. Love Twice, but that sudden cut/change then next into hiphop then back to the same song as the beginning part like kind of weird.

i think BUMSUP did the best in the traditional mega crew sense. my personal favourite, however, is MOTIV. marlee had a vision and executed it beautifully. i don’t think they went for grandness at all, which can for sure hurt them when it comes to the judging portion. but instead, they prioritized getting their message across, which i admire greatly. they were the only crew who included criticism in their depiction of their country’s identity, and especially with the climate in the US rn, their message of inclusivity seems to have resonated with a lot of people, which i think was their goal in the first place. speaking of World of Dance, they’ve actually been head-lining it for the past few years now haha. marlee’s also been a judge. so, i think, if the goal was to be grand and showy, they could’ve definitely fulfilled that. but again, i think they prioritized the message instead of grandness.

takavrah

people keep saying the other crews besides bumsup aren’t “mega crew enough” like i hope people understand that mega crew isn’t how it’s shot or the location it’s about the amount of people likeee?? 💀 but besides that my favorite crews video is motiv

Sabi

You said everything I wanted to say about this mission so eloquently! No bias watching these, since I'm European, but every group did so well representing their own country's/city's culture. But Bumsup and OJO were my favorite by far. I couldn't stop saying 'wow' while watching Bumsup and I actually applauded when OJOs video was over. They ate this one up!! 💙💚

I love hearing your perspective on these videos. Bumsup was my favorite, and I had goosebumps watching it. However, I think it's good for us to keep in mind that the main accent or focus of this season's mega crew was to show your culture. When Jennie announced the mission, she mentioned the min of 30 dancers and that we have to see your culture through your video. And I think that's why most crews did not put that much effort into the formation changes, etc, but more on how they can represent their culture and pass a message. Nonetheless, Bumpsup was still able to represent the Korea culture and give us that grandeur that most people expect from a mega crew mission. The fact that they have been through this before made it easier for them to capture the essence that the public will look for.
