Interestingly, your initial reaction to this song is similar to what some people feel about izna "Mamma Mia". They also feel the transition from the bridge to the chorus with an anti-drop is too abrupt. I guess it's a style that The Black Label goes with at the moment, coz both songs are produced by Teddy and 24. One thing I've always said about "Burning Up" is that it lacks explosiveness or a section to release the energy it keeps building throughout the song. The thing is, it's the totally the intention of the producers to leave it like that, to create that kind of incomplete, unreleased feeling of the song. You can feel the dynamic much more if you watch their It's Live performance with the live band, a version that I much prefer.

I totally understand your point about that "slow motion effect". It's about dynamic control, timing and precision, and those aspects are totally DIFFICULT to execute. MEOVV are excellent dancers, yet I feel like their style and training lean more towards hip-hop which is more care-free rather than knife-like and precise. The girls are also very tall on average and not all of them have a total control of their physique so sometimes the moves can appear not strong enough.

Yesss waited for this!!! Thank you for your detailed and insightful reaction LOVE MEOVV 💙🖤🤍💗💜

Ahh, was waiting for this!! I think that the chorus is definitely the slightly 'not quite there' portion of the song🤔 for me, I got used to it really quickly so I love it loll.

omg yes that’s what it is! it kept building and building but never quite fully got there. it’s an awkward balance with the choreo cause it seemed the choreo execution just kept exploding with the hard hitting movements. theyre kinda contrasting each other.

yes very hard! i touched on it on &team’s back to life. it’s like sprinting and then suddenly going slow-mo.

Here from your DDIRORI MV reaction, and I just wanted to say that you really touched on what I felt about Burning Up when I heard it for the first time. The pre-chorus is amazing, and I love anti-drops, but I do feel that the lead-up to the drop falls a little flat after the first pre-chorus. I think that's where the "abrupt" feeling comes from. I also think that the chorus itself is way too short, which makes it feel like it comes and goes too quickly to fully appreciate it. But after the second pre-chorus, you hear in the instrumental that it doesn't have the same anti-drop as it does after the first pre-chorus, and that makes the second section of the song sound so much fuller than it does in the first section. And when I realized that, it made me come to like the anti-drop in the first bit a lot more, but I still think that the chorus should have been a bit longer to accentuate it. I love your commentary on the dance practice! I feel we don't get a lot of these types of reactions on choreography because K-pop companies tend to shoot and release the dance practices AFTER the initial release of the title track+MV, so choreographies are usually well-polished by then. Back in 1st, 2nd, and even a bit of 3rd gen, dance practices weren't ever well-polished because they were literally supposed to be a TRUE dance practice, showcasing the grittiness and work in progress of these choreographies. But I think as time went on, companies realized that people are looking at these dance practices to LEARN from them and wanted people to learn the actual choreography and not a WIP choreography, so they started releasing them after the MV drops. So I'm not sure why TBL decided to post a clearly WIP dance practice instead of a well-polished one. But as you said, there could have been a time crunch on getting things out for the award season. I really hope that TBL will work more efficiently on things like this in the future so the girls never have to feel rushed. And I don't think there is anything wrong with you pointing out that it feels rushed or that you're being too hard on them. In the end, it's not even their fault. They can only work with the circumstances they're given. I appreciate your insight, clarity, and willingness to be honest! It's what makes most of your audience look forward to your analyses! I wholeheartedly agree with your comment on how different MEOVV are from the traditional girl group and how you like that! I think you would /LOVE/ BADVILLAIN in that case. They are on a hiatus right now due to the ongoing lawsuit situation with BPM, but I think you would enjoy a deep dive into their musical and performance journey so far--especially since they have performed ALL of their songs live without lip sync. (Emma from SWF is also in this group!) BILLLIE is another girl group I think you would love to check out as well! Their most recent comeback after a long hiatus hits as hard as MEOVV does, and they've been performing a couple of their B-sides (WORK and SOUPASTA) that are just as great as the title track (ZAP). My last suggestion: KiiKii! They don't sound like MEOVV, however, they do perform like MEOVV! I would say they are closer to NewJeans or Hearts2Hearts in terms of their musical sound, but their choreography SLAPS. I feel like you'd enjoy dissecting their choreo.
