As a HUGE BTS fan, this is not my favorite album from them but I did like some songs in it! But you never know, I might like more songs after this first listen and/or after watching the live.

I didn't mention it in the reaction but I do wish there was more Korean lyrics overall. It is such a beautiful language and is one of the reasons why I love Kpop. So going majority English and working with majority Hollywood producers, may have contributed to my reservations about some of the songs. But I get it.

For a group that has such a big discography and for achieving so much success, it is inevitable that their sound will somehow change. It's what I expect. I've mentioned this for my other faves too. But with branching out, it's gonna depend on the fans. Some fans are ready for something new, and some fans are wanting more of OG BTS. I think I love 'Body to Body' a lot because it's the type of song that got me into BTS: Fire, Not Today, Mic Drop. With that said, I am one person and a lot of you guys and a lot of BTS' fans will love this direction!

I can't wait to watch the Comeback LIve - I just got an audition request so I am preparing that and will film the live reaction on Tuesday. Reminder also that I will react to the documentary and the Goyang concert!

After watching the live I love the album even more. Some friends also saig it was not their cup of tea but after watching the performances they changed their minds. I have the same opinion of not enough korean lyrics but then it may not suit the esthetic of the song. For me I really like the whole album. Thank you for your honest opinion 💜💜

LiveLaughLoveZonZon

I think my issue is i genuinely hate the production in this album. The overuse of autotune hurts my ears. I miss hearing their raw vocals

Jee Emm

We have the same favorites, except I like NORMAL so much, i would die for that song. LOL. It's okay, we have different tastes and opinions, but I am so happy that they are able to experiment and discover new sounds that we would not expect from the BTS we know. I resonate with this album so much, and it's my favorite! I can't wait for your live comeback reaction.

I think is a matter of personal taste at end. For me this is their best album because I do see how it englobes all their past eras and even their solos careers. And every time I replay a song it’s just keeps getting better. But I can see why it can’t be the cup of tea of everyone, because it is a different BTS with a more modern style and also it’s pretty different from their usual K-pop formula and style. I do not mind the amount of English because I do like it as much as the Korean parts. But at end it’s just preferences and that’s okay. For me was a masterpiece, I didn’t know what to expect but they nailed everything for me. What brings so much happiness it’s that people that has never listened to K-pop is eating and enjoying this album which at the end is going to bring more attention and impact to them, and I love it.

Personally as a long time fan since 2016 , I really loved this album , but I get it how some fans might not like it , with that being said , what I love about BTS is that they’re not afraid to experiment and show us something new in their music and I’m here for it . 💜💜💜 thanks for your honesty and reaction 🥰 and hopefully the album grows on you.

It's not my favorite album either but of course I appreciate the versatility! Personally I prefer the first part of the album but I liked some songs from the second part too. I don't mind the english, I mean I focus more on the melody + vocals/rap and not the words that much. Also they said that they had over 100 tracks to work with so I wonder if the ones that didn't make it were actually bad.. (besides the ones that some members kept for their future solo projects)

I really liked the album. On my first listen, it felt a little underwhelming but the more I listened to it, the more I loved it. As a full album, I think this is my favourite. Though, I have individual songs from the past eras that I still think are superior. Arirang for me has gotten to a point where there are just no skips. It’s proper ear worm. As for the English vs Korean ratio - I’m with you. But I’m sure they’re more aware than anyone which direction they are choosing so happy to go with it. At least, the English songs were not bubblegum pop this time. Normal and Like Animals I genuinely love. Feels like BTS just in English.

Also just from a korean person perspective and Britney fan I think that they are just talking about Britney's song lyrics (Crazy and Baby one more time lyrics).

aerina

Not trying to be insensitive here, but the Britney reference in FYA probably is just saying that her songs make people go crazy in clubs, since they also referenced her song baby one more time. I'm just trying to clarify this since I don't think they would, or have ever talked about other artists' past private lives.

There were only a few songs that I liked at first listen. However, a lot of them got sooo much better after a few more listens. Before watching the live show, i was skipping 2 songs. But after watching the performance, I see the appeal. Now, I only have been skipping 1 skip. Hehehe I like the 2nd half of the album more, but my fav right now is Body to Body!

nichaaas

Personally, I loved the sound of this album so much on first listen i kinda ignored all of my criticisms for it lol. Now that I that I’ve listened to it for a couple of times, i do agree with you about the ratio between english-korean lyrics especially for the vocal parts. Please and They don’t know bout us were my absolute favorites from the album, and apart from it being my vibe instrumentally, i think a little part of that is due to the fact that i got to hear the vocal lines in korean more shhssjdh. I was also pretty bummed out by the vocal effects in into the sun. I think i would’ve been alright if they added it only in the intros or smth. However, i enjoyed the vocal effects in the rap heavy first half.

Etoile2004

I don’t think it’s BAD it’s just that they use to release a lot better 😭 there are a few bops though

jeffavenue

it depends on who wrote that lyric. there are so many producers on this album and especially more Hollywood-producers are involved, I wouldn't put it past them given the industry. I dont think the boys themselves would write this lyric honestly. but yes, i can see it more about being boppin at the club.

jeffavenue

can't wait to see the live! ugh why did my audition have to come this weekend after 2 months of no auditions 😭

jeffavenue

I mean, we can't blame the boys - their discography is GENIUS. so it's gonna be hard to top. I gotta listen again cause while editing this, I was boppin to the songs more!

jeffavenue

yea 100+ songs are insane!! they probably had an open call within the producers in the industry and was just like, yo bts are open to songs so everyone just submitted. I can see them filtering out because of their vision for the album and what made sense

jeffavenue

yes it was already better when I was editing this 😁

jeffavenue

oh ok I wasn't crazy then! I was thinking where the hell are their signature sounds?? their vocal tones are so iconic at this point. at times it felt like different people singing. I had a whole spiel about it in the intro but I cut it thinking I maybe the only one 😅

Abby Barron

You know , at my first listen I like the second half after swim part of the album , but then after listening to it again the first part grew on me 😂

jeffavenue

oh that's great to hear that more people outside the fandom is resonating! it makes sense cause a lot of the producers are Hollywood-acclaimed types whose music resonate a lot with the gp

Eleonora

I have the exact same opinion as yours,I am not exposing myself on social media because I would be accused of not being an Army, but I love Bts and I am happy that they are doing what they like, but this album is not for me. I will still support them and buy one copy of the album, but except for a couple of songs, I don't think I would replay it often. With that being said, they were amazing live and it was so emotional seeing them again🥹💜

aadya

I personally loved it, I feel like they have grown and developed as artists and in the process moved into different vocal sounds. I do agree that it’s completely up to personal taste though as to whether you like the development, and you did like some songs so I guess it was more of song based? I also think it’s only given for artists coming back after a 4 year break to have developed a new sound. Also, if you look at all the songs and compare them to their solos you’ll actually find they fit into their styles that they followed individually and now it’s flowed into group settings, which probably is to be expected since they are more experienced now. As far as the whole Korean-English ratio goes that’s where I might disagree with you, they are multilingual artists and even if it’s called K-Pop I don’t believe that should mean they filter how their artistry comes across in terms of language (they are Korean and it will remain Korean artist made music as long as they’re making it regardless of how much English is in there, the concept that they should restrict/add more of a language because that’s their native one doesn’t sit right with me)

LiveLaughLoveZonZon

My main issue with this album is the horrific production and over abundance of auto tune. I like their voices. I’m tired of over auto-tuned songs

LiveLaughLoveZonZon

Oh no it’s what I see people discussing the most online. Also…i genuinely think it’s a HYBE issue. These last couple of years I have had some extreme issues with their artists albums, because they are so over produced and over auto tuned. I love to hear beautiful vocal tones. Even artists like seventeen have shifted to more auto tuned vocals since joining HYBE, and it genuinely drives me insane 😩

Christine Copeland aka Christine's Culinary Quest

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that part that's "highly stylized" in Into the Sun is actually a 7-part harmony with minor notes in it, isn't it? It's that barber quartet type harmony, right? Anyway, I was kind of unsure how I felt about the album as a whole when I first heard it, because it is so different from what we've heard before from BTS, even though it does elements of past work that pop out. Some of the ones I was iffy on the Netflix live sold me on because it sounded different live. I'm curious if your feelings change on any after the live. After listening more pretty much every song grew on me. I love them all now, but some are ones I'll only listen to for certain moods, vibe, etc. Some in particular were I want to dance or it's raining outside type vibes. Like you said not their best album but in the end I ended up liking all the songs. Some really are more performance songs than songs you just listen to though.

jeffavenue

ya the harmony was just not processed well. it sounded like auto tuned harmonies. can't wait to see the live - filming it today!

Obsessed with ONE MORE NIGHT & PLEASE❤️❤️❤️

You and I often have such similar tastes and opinions on things, and it makes me really sad when we deviate from that haha. I'll be honest, I won't watch your review because I really, really love the album and I'm having a hard time holding patience for those who don't (Hey, at least I'm self-aware lol). But! I hope it grows on you because I generally love bopping along to your reactions and I want to share the comeback fun with you. <3

Me being a fan of them since debut era, I expected to see at least another iconic cypher just to remember the old times. The hiphop heavy songs in the early half of the album did not do it for me. Also for an album called "Arirang" Aside from body to body (fav number 1) and No.29 (the Korean bell sound with the history) I did expect to hear more traditional korean instruments and the culture incorporated which is also why I'm not a fan of the whole production team. I wish they would have collaborated with more korean producers, korean dancers for a song, trot singers etc my other favorite is they don't know bout us but that's it... I know they have matured a lot and all of them have their own color in music, but I am dissapointed in this whole production and I am saying this as an audio engineer, music producer and artist myself. I also kinda feel like this is going to be their last comeback as a group and the last world tour before they disband and each of them follow their own paths and maybe once in so many years do a reunion. And this feeling has been growing stronger after listening to the album once again...

I honestly its a simple reference to Britney's song with the Lyric "Hit me baby one more time". BTS lyrics is "Hit me with it one more time". Same as the Lyric in Butter with the Usher Reference with Usher's You got it bad. Lyrics goes "No need no Usher to remind me you got it bad".

Shavani

Literally I really enjoy his reactions but I can’t get how he doesn’t like it 😂 I LOVE the album it’s been non stop on my playlist. But I joined Patreon because of the comeback live and stuff. I hate how people keep complaining about how this album doesn’t sound like bts or not enough Korean especially after watching the documentary the member literally FOUGHT so hard to get this much Korean in the album.

Ash

It's "The club go crazy. Like Britney baby, hit me with it one more time." Club go crazy PERIOD. Continue with the lyric. So the crazy part isn't saying "crazy like Britney." I see what Jeff means that it depends on who wrote the lyric, but I don't think anyone was intending to throw Britney shade, and I say this as a Day 1 Britney fan with a Britney related tattoo on my body haha I think if it were my song, I wouldn't have let it in just because of the potential for misunderstandings, but I really don't think anyone meant it maliciously. I don't think it's a reference to her song either, like everyone else is saying because it wouldn't parallel the Michael lyric before.

Ash

Yeah, it not being people's preferred taste is one thing; you can't control what you like or don't like, but some of the criticisms just seem really unfair and unnecessary--and some are just downright weird. I also think a lot of people's issues is that they have too many expectations for what they think the guys should've done or whatever. I literally had no expectations whatsoever, and I think that's really contributed to me just enjoying it. I'm taking it for what it is and enjoying the ride.
