In ancient China, people often had several different names. Their formal given name was called given name , and they also had a courtesy name , which can be understood as a courtesy name. For example, in the drama Pursuit of Jade, Xie Zheng is his formal given name , while Xie Jiuheng is his courtesy name , similar to a nickname. Generally, only very close family and friends would call someone by their courtesy name.

I knew I recognised Zhang Linghe (Meal lead) from somewhere! He was a support lead in Love Between Fairy and Devil, I only realised whilst watching episode 5 with you that it was him because of the mole on his nose looked familiar - he's lost a lot of weight for this role and seems more charismatic, that's why I didn't recognise him!

About the surname, I think in ancient China a woman get married and she would use a kind of second surname which is the husbands' and the woman officially become a member of the husband's family, not the other way around. But as a married-in husband, meaning the man will become a member of the woman's family and he will change his surname into the woman's as well as their children. So it was really rare in the past and even in modern life now. So that's why in this show there are several times people heard about the girl's married-in husband and instantly stopping thinking that he might be Xie Zheng because they can't imagine Xie Zheng would do something like that considering his background.

For cdrama, there’s always a saying that said see the main actor fake long hair to know how is the budget of that drama. If its nice then its a good budget production and if its not then most probably its wasting time or not worth to watch. Obvious differences can be seen in some low budget production drama. Really recommend you to watch Love in The Clouds too.
