can't wait to watch this later 💜

Rtzll

you dont know how much ive been refreshing for this HAHAHHA

Michelle

Mister Zhao is the neighbor uncle that was recruited for the army. The other uncle who died is the relative who wants to take Changyu’s house. And btw I’ll be watching EXO concert this coming Sunday. 😁😁

Cel

@13:20, When he came to rescue Bao'er's mom, Qi Min kissed her to pass her air/oxygen. Saw this in other Chinese dramas.

Cel

@31:14 - in that episode, they were saying that Changyu's 1) uncle's father (her grandfather) and 2) her uncle's wife (not the grandfather's wife) were killed in the village massacre (the uncle himself died right before the land deed trial.) That was her relative uncle. That translation "uncle's father and wife" should have been "uncle's father and uncle's wife" to avoid causing confusion. And you're right that this is the uncle, together with his wife lives next to Changyu and Changning. He's a non-relative uncle.

Coco T

Haha did you lost your memory~ They fight to rescue Changning last ep and Xiezheng got injuried when he pushed Changning to his Xie Wu or Xie Qi.

jeffavenue

ohhhh 😮 ugh i wish he wasn’t mad cause that’s actually romantic 😩

jeffavenue

yes i remember that uncle but wasn’t there another uncle referred to after the massacre that died? i remember i was told its the uncle that was sent off that died while away. so it’d be mister zhao wouldn’t it be? and yay omg enjoy!! i wanna see them in manila but both days sold out 🥺

Coco T

It seems you need to take some notes and study them every week before you watch new eps haha. In this ep it was uncle Zhao, Changyu's good neighbor. The one dead is her uncle who tried to take her house.

Michelle

The uncle died before the massacre, killed by the Wei Yan’s people in ep 7 I think😅. Mister Zhao is the one in the camp, he didn’t die. Thanks. It’s also sold-out here in HK.

So happy to see this week’s upload lol. I wait to til my days off to rewatch these episodes with you, and read the comments. It’s fun to experience this with others, and to catch things that I missed, because I watched by myself first go around. Can’t wait for next week’s episodes! 😃 oh and I’m glad that you picked on Yan Zheng and the Princess being close and knowing each other. They grew up together, in the same circles. If you remember from past episodes, originally the Queen mother wanted the Princess to have an arranged marriage with Yan Zheng, because of his status and everything. But at that time Yan Zheng was pretending to be dead (and living with Changyu), so the Queen mother moved on (thinking Yan Zheng was dead) and set up a marriage with Commander Li. At the same time, the Princess was hiding her identity in the academy, and crushing on the Military Advisor/Strategist. All the while we see Commander Li’s affection grow for Changyu, every time they run into each other. Side note: I remember there were some fans at the time the show was airing, that thought Changyu and Commander Li had better chemistry, but we know Yan Zheng is the endgame. Either way Changyu had all the best options for suitors lol.

There's a LOT of information and it's his first cdrama. I was WAY WORSE when I started watching historical cdramas lolll

Laure

To clarify, Changyu has only one uncle, and he was killed at the begining of the drama. There was a whole trial and all. In the village, the subtiles mentioned Fan Daniu's (changyu's uncle) wife and father were killed. That may be where you got confused. There was not another mention of another uncle that died. Also, just as a refresher, during the battle, the marquis saved changning and handed her to one of his men to keep her safe. I know there's so much going and it's hard to remember everything but you're doing very well!

Cel

Yup. It'll be interesting when they fully reveal Qi Min's background, to see if it justifies any of his insanity and cruelty. I have an idea based on a previous commenter's hint in an earlier episode. Also, it just occurred to me that the younger brother, who obviously idolizes him, probably copies (or is heavily influenced by) his insanity and cruelty.

mariama

no fr the lies keep piling up im scared for when she finds out 😭 he should have told her when they reunited its getting frustrating, also because it's forcing all the others to have to lie to her too

jeffavenue

BAHHAHA OMG I DID. i forgot about that part 💀💀 it was such a fast scene and it was at the end. also to my defense, i film this right after waking up so im like in a semi coma at the beginning 😅

jeffavenue

THIS. thanks! this clarifies it. that’s probably why i thought an uncle because they kept saying uncle’s this, uncle’s that. so what stuck in my head was the uncle part LOL

I can't wait to watch this when I get home!!! The suspense after each episode is insane but it's amazing to have someone to watch it with - even though I'm watching this a third time hehe thanks for the reaction Jeff!!

eimi

It was actually filmed in about 4 months! December 15, 2024- April 22nd, 2025. I’m not sure how long a production like this would take to film but for cdramas this would be on the longer end. Most cdramas take about 2-3 months to wrap up filming. I’m assuming it might’ve taken longer because of the location of the physical locations they had to travel for and the large scale war scenes.

Also, just a translation-related note: Changyu mistakenly thought the Royal Princess's name was "Bengong" because the princess addressed herself as 本宫 (pronounced běn gōng). This is a self-addressing term used by a royal figure such as an empress or the head of a palace (where 宫 means "palace," and 本宫 literally translates to "this palace"). However, Changyu was unaware of these court etiquettes, so she thought that since the physician called herself "Bengong," that must be her name. People who can call themselves bengong are mainly the 'masters of a palace' in the ancient imperial harem. Not every imperial consort could use this term—only those who had their own independent palace, such as empresses, high-ranking consorts in charge of a palace, or princesses.

I am so excited that you're watching this series! I started it myself, but never finished, so at this point I am watching along with you. Thank you for your reactions. I am not sure if you're open to suggestions since you probably receive many. But if you're interested in more cdramas, I would highly recommend A Dream Within a Dream. Something crazy happens every episode, and it's very comedic. You can laugh and cry in a single episode

Hi Jeff. I've been binging your reactions and I'm loving rewatching this with you. With how interested you are in the plot I can't help but feel you would love this other Cdrama called "The Double". That one is similar to this but so different at the same time. The female lead there is more of a mental battles type of heroine rather than physical fighting (that's the male lead who is also a general's specialty) but the underlying values are so similar. Its my top Cdrama alongside Pursuit of Jade. Def recommend if you would like to watch another CDrama
