HI! HEADS UP.

I was VERY confused about these revelations earlier in the episode. I tried to edit this as clear as I can and stitch together what was actually coherent but I apologize if some thoughts were unclear/stopped abruptly. Just know the rest of that sentence or phrase was not coherent at all lol. I was going back and forth between clips and was verbalizing my thoughts as I went but none of them were actually making sense. BUT rest assured, I did end up understanding these revelations eventually before the ep ended.

SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME:

I think what confused me was the two names that were introduced to me earlier in the series. I'm totally thankful for everyone's comments to help me further understand the plots but I think the introduction of the white hair dude's two names without much context (understandably as it would've spoiled the plot), confused me overall.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm currently at this:

Qi Min = REAL heir to the throne (given the surname of the royal clan)

Sui Yuanhuai = Son of Lord Changxin (cause current heir brother has a very similar name)

But they're not technically synonymous with each other. They're two different people. My confusion stemmed from this. I thought white hair dude had the two names as THE SAME character (like how Xie Zheng is with Jiuheng - that one is a nickname). And I often used Qi Min earlier in the eps because it was just easier to pronounce without knowing the real reason behind that name.

So when Xie Zheng said "the real Sui Yuanhuai died 17 years ago", I thought the real heir to the throne died too so I was like who tf is this imposter then?? But no- it's just the real Sui Yuanhuai that died. Qi Min is currently the name of the person alive but just pretending to be Sui Yuanhuai. A switch that happened to keep him alive.

Gosh watch me be wrong on this too 😭

hahaha I didnt realize that you got so confused about this for this long~ And I think you've got it now. QIMIN and SUI YUANHUAI are two names for two different people. Our white hair dude who really is QIMIN have been pretending as SUI YUANHUAI for 16 years. That's all.

So now we know why the old man said to Chuangyu that Changning has a very fortunate and noble life in the future. If Bao'er be the king then Changning will be...^^

11 mins in and yes, I get the confusion lol. But you did figure it out eventually. The revelation of his identity made things even more interesting especially since we’ll slowly move our focus to court politics and uncover more secrets

Aside from "trying to uncover", Changyu's father is branded as a traitor. Trying to conceal it from her is not just saving her, but saving her entire generation.... she needed to be "something" of power to be even able to raise the case to the emperor. The whole nation hates her father, so exposing it to her early on, and w the ongoing battle, she can be exposed. Also, archaic soldiers would rather die in battle than live w guilt that they survived but their sworn brothers died. The real Sui Yuanhai died, Changxin doesn't know about it. You're analysis are spot on. Also, you'll get used to it when you watch more cdramas 😁💜 You might be more confuse as we are entering the political era. So now you know Changyu is from the Wei clan 🙂 As to why Gen He didn't clear his name, mainly because it's political. The Wei basically controls the palace esp the emperor. It'll be an internal conflict, you can see from earlier episode Gen He is willing to be imprisoned to not cause an uproar w/in the army or else the rebels will take advantage of it. He even always advice commander Li to prioritize the nation and not his own interests. Changyu father beliefs is the same, so he'd rather sacrifice himself and hi wife's life to save his family, and entrust it to Gen He. You can see the character growth of Changyu who acts upon her emotions to slowly becoming a great general. Basically, Changyu and the recent situation are not ready for the truth, so I understand Gen He. Also, Gen He serves under Wei Yan, it's either rebelling against Wei Yan by openly protecting Changyu or keep her identity as long as possible,or until she's ready. Remember how she is encouraged left & right to be a general, it is foreshadowing. In the Chinese empire, a eunuch was a castrated man who served in the imperial palace, often as a guard, servant, or trusted official. Some eunuchs became very powerful and influenced court politics .

Just a cultural note: the scene where Li Huai'an carries brambles and kneels for punishment is based on the ancient Chinese idiom 负荆请罪 (fù jīng qǐng zuì -- "carrying brambles and pleading for guilt"), which originates from a famous Warring States period story. In that tale, the proud General Lian Po, after realizing his petty jealousy was harming his state, stripped to the waist, tied thorny branches to his back, and knelt before his rival Lin Xiangru to beg for punishment—an act of ultimate humility that forged an unbreakable alliance between them. By evoking this allusion, the drama transforms Li Huai'an's apology from a simple personal gesture into a profound ritual of public atonement, signaling that he is willing to endure shame and pain to restore honor, placing the greater good above his own pride just as the ancient general did.

This is your first Cdrama?! Oh my…well congratulations on entering a whole new world lol. The stories are just as great as Kdramas, Tdramas, and Jdramas. I’m guessing you haven’t seen The Untamed? That’s another Cdrama that has its own fandom lol. There’s so much for you to see lol

If you’ve watched cdramas enough you’ll not get confused, but watching you get confused can indeed be confusing as a first timer so i understand. They are trying to teach her the art of war seeing as she’s a general, she has the strength but she needs the brains developed to be able to strategize in the advent of a war, or command troops. I don’t think General He can just outrightly tell her she’s the daughter of a traitor, the less she knew the better cos once she knew she became miserable. You’ll realize more as you watch further also.
