Page Update (Patreon)

Unfortunately, DZO will not be updating tomorrow (8/13) or Sunday (8/17). We’ll resume next Wednesday (8/20) with the new page.

Back on Saturday, Salaiix’s computer started having some major issues—among them, the computer would repeatedly crash. Originally, he thought it was a loose RAM module, and thought he successfully fixed it. All seemed to work, and he was able to finish Page 33 in time. However, while working on Page 34, the computer started experiencing heavy slowdown, especially when using the software to draw/color (particularly when applying a lot of layers). It did end up crashing again a few times, just not as often as it had on Saturday.

So we had two options:

1.) Attempt to continue with the next few pages, but with less detail/layers, and likely at a slower pace.

2.) Delay the update for a week to completely solve the computer issue.

Option 1 was very tempting, just because there’s already been too many schedule delays this year. But I have a feeling a lot of readers are really going to enjoy the upcoming scene, and it would be a shame to not have those pages at 100%.

Also, the computer issue isn't going away on its own and needs to be addressed. So, we settled on Option 2. I know Salaiix had to redo a lot of work on Page 33 between computer crashes, and that's certainly no way to work.

As you can imagine, the situation is extremely frustrating for us—for 9 years I’ve been writing DZO and I was very proud that for 8 of those years, we never missed a single update. The only time we didn’t update was when we took a week off between chapters. 2025 has had several schedule interruptions and, unfortunately, all have been outside of my control.

This is one of the many reasons that, despite having to push the budget to its limit, I wanted to do a Patreon-Only comic in addition to the main title. So, if a DZO update is missed, at least the other comic will still update. Fortunately, Mimpi is now working on that other project and the plan is to have a number of pages done before I start posting, giving us a large buffer.

Apologies for yet another delay. I know Salaiix will make the wait well worth it for the upcoming pages.
