The robin was staring at you thinking "why is this man kissing his hand" 😭 I'm happy that we got a longer Crunch time especially about gardening! I do know some things about gardening but not much so it's always fun to learn more and listen to you work. I've never heard of being able to smell when the rain is coming but I don't have a great sense of smell so that might be why haha. I can smell after there has been rain but not before Also you talking to that sparrow was so adorable 🥰

Bird calls I recognized that you didn't mention: redbirds (that's what we call cardinals here), and chickadees. Maybe a tufted titmouse? One thing to consider with your new blueberry bushes is covering them with netting when/if they're big enough to bear fruit. I have blueberry bushes (with pine straw mulch! Yes! Acidic!) and rarely get any berries because the birds always get to them first. (And then poop them out all over my car, lol.) My bushes are so big now that it's hard to wrangle the netting over them so I gave up. I should cut them back but I never think of it until it's the wrong time of year. 🙃 Mmm, arugula my beloved. It's so yummy. As far as local edible plants in my yard, I'm not sure? I should investigate. But maybe... four years ago? I planted some yellow summer squash in an old empty flower bed and the plants were ENORMOUS and lush and healthy and I had so many squash that year. The man who cuts my grass would tease me that he was going to steal all my squash while I was away at work. 😂 Yes, I can smell rain coming and the air also feels different too. One thing I love where I live is in the middle of summer when we get a little afternoon thunderstorm and then after it passes you can see steam rising up from the pavement. As hot and miserable as summer can be here, there's also something kind of magical about it sometimes. What an absolute pleasure to listen to you piddling around in the yard and sharing your knowledge. I wish I could come over and help. It would be so fun. 🤍 (But we're not cutting down any trees!! 😤)

I just looked up Beau Miles and watched the video where he builds a little cabin for his wife made of scrap wood and materials- very wholesome. I love Aussie accents too, sometimes when I hear a yummy accent it's really hard to stop myself parroting it back 😅 I can only imagine being your neighbor, looking outside and seeing you digging in the ground and putting plants in your mouth lol I'm glad you're enjoying the change of season, I don't handle heat well but I love the longer days. See you tomorrow! 🌹

I already know I'm going to be all over the place with this reply 🙃 "You can kind of feel (the rain) in the air", yeah, it's called possibly early onset arthritis :,,,,} joking.. half joking.. but really, the atmosphere tends to feel different when the rain is about to set in. The air smells different, too. It's a pleasant smell, and the feeling on my skin from the changes always excites me. Major shoutout to my prickly pear cactuses in my backyard that have made my tacos and vegan ceviche (and my belly) very happy🌵 I also have some really nice stonecrop that's edible (in moderation. I have the variety with yellow flowers, and I believe that one is known to cause stomach problems if too much is digested), it's a bit of a mix between peppery and sweet, really nice in a salad. Not in my backyard, but at a park in a neighboring city, there's a trail that grows wild california blackberries for the native wildlife, and those are nice to snack on while walking for a good minute. Just be careful with the thorns! Now that's where we differ. You're a complete social butterfly in the summer, where I'm a complete hermit that's trying to embrace any cold that's available. I'm used to the heat (I'm already expecting the +115f's again this year 💀), but I miss the cool winds and slight chills. I feel that I thrive more there. Summers are beautiful, and I will force myself to go out and about to beaches and festivals, and everyone looks gorgeous in dresses and shorts.. but the cold.. I crave ;-; even if it's cold wind on a hot day, yes please~ I raise your Australian accent... with kiwi accents. Both are just 🫠🫠 exactly as you said, yummy. I'll be sure to take a look at Beau in my spare time, I'm sure it's going to be a nice little adventure. Of course I'm going to help you out in the yard!! Get our hands nice and soily, skin kissed by the sun (or at least the bright day when cloudy), and share a bit of a snack here and there.. yes, the plant snacks, too. This was a lovely crunch time! A nice body doubling, along with listening to your sweet fascination to gardening and the local wildlife (hyperfixations are a good thing, see? You're snacking and learning, I say that's a win). Thank you for this, Crunchy 💙 Stay safe, meow meow (I say now as I'm sure I'll remember what else I wanted to say after I reply.. 💙)

this was so nice to listen to as a relaxing break from my studies, thank you 🌿 i don’t know much about gardening, but there is a grapevine in my backyard that my grandmother loved to tend to. it has never produced fruit, but we don’t mind because we use the leaves in some mediterranean dishes. she was very strict about pruning it regularly during the spring and summer, and i have some memories of her getting frustrated with me because she would point to specific leaves for me to cut and i couldn’t quite tell which one she was pointing at 😂 this is the first season it has sprouted without her here, and i feel that it is my responsibility to continue to care for it in her honor. maybe i will do some pruning today because it really needs it, thanks for the inspiration 🤍 digital hugs, have a good evening ✨

There's so many wild onions and wild garlic here that people just mow over because they think they're just grass or weeds. I'd like to think I'd be helpful with the garden projects but I'd probably get distracted and be bringing you weird bugs or little snakes to show you lol. Maybe I could just stick to bringing you ice tea for breaks. I appreciate the daytime Crunch time. I could actually listen at work. Most days I go to sleep before you post 👉👈 Thank you for the extra long garden adventure 💙

Hearing you speaking to the sparrow made me really happy. And it’s lovely to hear you so excited about all your projects! 🌷

Siiigh… This was so lovely to listen to, and now I’m pining for a little house with a yard. I would give anything to have a quiet place like that—plenty of trees, overlooking some body of water… lake, ocean, I don’t care. Just give me my books, my animals, and my plants. Sigh. Pine soda? Really? I’ve never even heard of it! The things Crunch teaches us during crunchtimes 😁 That little chat with the sparrow is forever burned into my brain—it was honestly the most charming moment you’ve ever had. Also makes me a little less silly for always talking and arguing with my crows😂 I love all the seasons, but summer has a different kind of charm. It feels more accessible, if that makes sense—you can go outside more often and more easily. The days are longer, the skies are prettier, the sunsets are magic… and let’s not forget the dresses! Heehee. But seriously, I love summer. I love lazing on the balcony with my coffee—like right now, for instance—without needing a hundred layers on me. I can’t wait for it to get warmer so I can head to the beach!🥰 I’d love to help out with the garden projects! I’m handy and strong, and as long as you don’t leave me alone to care for the plants, I probably won’t murder them 😂 (I don’t know what it is with me and plants, don’t ask—it’s a struggle. But! To be fair, this year my little flowers are actually thriving!) Though… I may have done a bit of a booboo. Hearing you talk about picking off little flowers reminded me of something. I know that trick from basil, but I bought this lettuce -looking purple buddy about a month ago, and it suddenly sprouted flowers—and I was so happy, I didn’t think about what it might mean for the plant. The flowers are gorgeous, but now the leaves are slowly falling off. I don’t know if I can still save it by removing the flowers or if it’s already too late 😭 Okay, I’ll stop yapping—I’ve got focaccias to fold. I’m looking after the little ones for a few hours and they requested a pizza focaccia. They love the fluffiness of focaccia but want pizza toppings. So, one “pizza” for them, and a simple one for me. Though… I’m thinking of adding some cherry tomatoes and a bit of garlic oil to mine. Hmmmm… Anyway! This was such a cosy listen to go with my coffee. Thank you for the peaceful time, Crunch. The end, especially—with the rustling leaves and all the birdies—was so relaxing. Oh! And I have no idea what bird it was, but there was one throughout the audio going “brii-brii” every minute like clockwork, and it had me cracking up. 🐦 I’m really excited that you’ll be sharing photos of all your hard work—I can’t wait to see them! 🥰 I hope your dreams are sweet and your morning gentle. Warm hugs and soft kisses—bye~ 🤍🌺

Listening to this while doing the dishes made it infinitely more fun, thank you. And though I have nothing of substance to add, I had no idea wild strawberries existed - just the ones cling wrapped for the humidity to foster growth; we have a strawberry farm 5 minutes away and its always cool to see those web-like clusters over them displaying the opening dates for picking, just wondrous... We have a local plant called Spekboom (Portulacaria afra for reference) that is completely edible and spreads like wildfire, a fantastic edition of acid in a vinaigrette or completely whole in a salad. Its super good frozen as well.. This was super fun. Have a great rest.. 🌹🌹 (Also didnt know you were a Disney Prince, Crunch; when were you gonna tell us??🥰)

when you’re talking to sparrows:🥰🎀💗💕🌷❤️😘💖🌸~~

Late to this but you can also eat dandelion leaves! Here in my part of Romania we make salads with the leaves, they taste kinda like a more bitter and thicker arugula

Revisiting this gem today as I drive around. I hope your garden is thriving now that Summer is here! 🌱🤍

I live on the overwhelmingly leafy side of the fence, ivy growing like it owns the place. To be honest, it does, it was here before I moved in. I call it the good side of the fence : lush, green, alive. 🌿 But let's be real... The other side probably looks exactly the same. Maybe we're both on the good side, then. 🌞
