The Purple Stuff Podcast is here, just in time, with this month's Patreon-exclusive bonus show! By popular request, we're doing another one of our patented eBay digs, and this time, our focus is E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial!

It shouldn't have come as a surprise, but we were still stunned to realize just how much merch our interstellar pal has accumulated over the last four decades. my neighbor used to be terrified of E.T. and its kind of mean looking back but sometimes hed come over and i wouldnt want to hang out so id hide my E.T. doll i got at universal studios in different rooms of the house and then tell him to come in the room. Eventually he would run back home crying to escape the haunt of E.T. I was kind of a dick. eventually his mom had to call my mom and they came to an agreement that before he came over id have to put away my E.T. doll.

I wonder if the E.T. marketing blitz at toys r us had a lot to do with the aftermath of 9/11 and people looking for comfort material. But turns out people were watching their money. Sorry to be dark, lol. Oh. I have bad news. I had to take flintstone vitamins in preparation for gastric bypass surgery five years ago. They tasted terrible :(

ET is still a hit commodity in my home. I have the life size talking ET from Toys R Us- also with light-up finger & chest. Also, went to Universal Studios the year of the 20th Anniversary- they also had all the merch! Have the shirt & silver charm bracelet for the 20th.

I agree that E.T. doesn’t have pull these days. But one of those things that every kid still knows who it is . It was such a huge deal when it came out. Definitely one of the first 3 movies I ever saw at theater. I had that finger light. Probably had a couple . And the lunchbox that half the kids had then . Reese’s pieces are still awesome but the peanut butter m&m’s stole a lot of their thunder

Well, you just solved a 35 year old mystery of my life: when I was around five, my family went to the local library while visiting my grandparents, and they randomly had that very E.T. hamper sitting on the floor in the children’s book section! I always wondered where they got a life-sized E.T.!
