This month's Patreon-exclusive bonus show is here, and boy, we are taking care of you guys with this one. it definitely feels more like one of our "big" shows than a bonus!

In late October of 1988, Unsolved Mysteries ran its one and only HALLOWEEN SPECIAL, with the late, great Robert Stack hosting -- perhaps through gritted teeth -- four segments about GHOSTS.

For this very spooooooky bonus show, we're diving into the original NBC broadcast from that cold October night. We're focusing on two of the four segments that aired, plus two of the original TV commercials that played during the broadcast.

We had SO much fun with this one, which blended one of our favorite TV shows with our favorite season, and also somehow gave us a chance to gush about Ritz Bits. Hope you enjoy it! And PS, the whole special (with commercials) is as of this writing on YouTube, so check it out after you listen to us yap!

Thanks so much for your support here on Patreon, and remember, we still have this month's Halloweeny big show still to come! We hope you're all having a great season!

I got way too jazzed to hear the entire theme in the podcast! Jay needs to get together with my mom and half sister and talk about the Queen Mary. They went a few years ago and they never stfu about it, lol. Has anybody watched the Robert Snack videos by The Pfeiffer Twins on tiktok and instagram? They're adorable. Did they ever do a Christmas episode?

Wow, plot twist! For 95% of the episode, I thought neither of you believe in ghosts and thought every detail of these stories was preposterous. Yet at the end, you both confessed to believing in them! I believe members of a historical society work to keep a historical area or building looking like it did in its heyday. For example, there was an episode of "This Old House" where they were renovating in a historical area and the historical society wouldn't let them put up the kind of fence they wanted. Not sure why they have that kind of power, but apparently they do (or at least some do). The woman who claimed to have seen the man on the stairs of the General Wayne Inn referred to him as both an apparition and a man. So the recreation of the man as a ghost was probably accurate. "Empty Nest" was definitely a spin off of "The Golden Girls." Harry and his daughters showed up in a few episodes. I think Harry was their neighbor. I remember him dropping off their mail with Dreyfuss in one episode.

Excellent episode and thank you for finding a full uncut Halloween episode of Unsolved Mysteries. I had been trying to find this on either Amazon or Peacock but because the Tallman episode isn't ever going to be on streaming, it's never there. Also! The General Wayne Inn, before it closed and became a synagogue, was the site of a murder! Featured on Forensic Files, season 10 episode 36 (aired in 2006), the owner was murdered by his business partner in 1996, then his girlfriend committed suicide there a year later. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Wayne_Inn

This episode is an absolute banger. Thank you boys. I too loved the Saturday NBC line up. Two hours of great TV. And as Jay mentioned it was comfort TV, there was something so reassuring about not having to change the channel. Four shows, all entertaining. There was a certain electricity on Saturday Night Main Event nights. The anticipation kept you up. Im so glad you brought up the promo spot for these shows.

Extra chunky for Halloween, nothing better!

I am absolutely obsessed with every unsolved mysteries episode you guys do. 10/10. Also, you’ve talked about the golden girls so many times I feel like y’all need to do an episode about them! I loved that Saturday night lineup as a kid too, and I could not begin to tell you why. I also really love designing women in the same way.

Alexis Copithorn

The ritz bits with the swig of iced tea 💀 y’all are the best!

Think I'm going to be Robert Stack for Halloween tomorrow. Trench coat, fedora, and maybe a hidden device playing the theme song.

Electrolux

Guess I don't need the fedora. Just a sardonic half-smile.
