Summer Flashbacks! (Patreon)

It technically isn’t summer yet, but it sure feels like it is, and besides, by the time we’re really in the thick of summer, our brains will already be laser-focused on Halloween.

So, you can consider this update a catchall summertime to-do list. We’re gonna highlight some past Purple Stuff episodes that fit the season, AND throw ya links to a few freebie movies that just hit better in the hot months.

Summery Purple Stuff Episodes:

We certainly have more than these three, but ya gotta start somewhere!

1. The Ice Cream Show: Our ENORMOUS tribute to ice cream and other frozen treats. We name sixteen of them in this episode, from Choco-Tacos to Butterfinger Nuggets. Listen here!

2. Summer Songs: Part of our “Summer Saturdays” event from a few years ago, this is the summertime version of song lists we do for Halloween and Xmas. Listen here!

3. The Soda Show: Maybe this isn’t "summery" in an on-the-nose sort of way, but it still seems like the right season to highlight it. One of our favorite eps, too! (After all, it’s where we discovered the magnificence of Faygo Arctic Sun.) Listen here!

Summery Movies:

Buried on YouTube are a whole bunch of movies that stream for free and are “officially uploaded” -- meaning the quality is just about perfect. Below are three that felt kinda/sorta right for the season…

1. Batman ‘66: If you’re around our age, you probably saw this A LOT during 1989’s “Batmania” craze. It’s still loads of fun, especially because this was the only time that ALL of the chief villains from Batman’s old series worked together! Watch here.

2. Mars Attacks: This one’s from 1996, and it could not feel more like a movie from 1996. Given that it seemed built to become a cult movie, it’s strange how little it’s mentioned these days. Watch here.

3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The classic 1990 live-action film that overachieved in literally every way. Of all the many TMNT shows and movies and comics that have come out, you could make a pretty reasonable argument that this is still the definitive #1. Watch here.

(Note that the above YouTube videos may not play on certain devices or in certain countries. Sorry if so!)

Enjoy, everyone! We hope you’re doing good, and we’ll be back soon with another full-length PSP episode, and, of course, another Patreon-exclusive bonus show!
