Just in the nick of time, our July bonus show is here! This month, we're diving into another dusty VHS tape for a look at another Tales from the Darkside episode, with the original commercial breaks at all!

The episode is called Black Widows, which should also give you some clue as to its subject matter. (Spoiler: SPIDERS!) The commercials we're featuring include everything from a Freddy's Nightmares promo to some dopey spot for waterbeds. Something for everyone!

While we gotta leave it up to you to track the episode down, we can at least show you the commercials. Click here to view all of the ones we'll be talking about, plus all of the others that aired during this November 1988 broadcast!

Our regularly scheduled big show is a bit delayed because Matt's computer exploded. Nothing critical was lost, but give us a little extra time to put the pieces back together. Obviously, we had to shift things around so this bonus show would be delivered on time. You Patronies come first! Thanks so much for your support, and enjoy the show!

Hopefully it wasn’t TOO exploded. Going to listen now. Thanks guys!

Oh thank all that's dark and holy (cool and shady)... Otherwise July would never have ended! 😱

When you said the graphics, etc. of KPDX reminded you of WPIX, I wondered if KPDX was a Tribune-owned station like WPIX and Chicago's WGN (which also aired Tales from the Darkside) were during the 1980s and '90s. I then went down a independent UHF station ownership rabbit hole to find that, no, it wasn't. I also realized that all this time I've been confusing WPIX with WWOR, which I remember being in our local TV listings even though none of the cable companies around here carried it.

Okay, I'm on Jay's side that you need to do a Barbie episode, because I'm as arachnophobic as it gets but I still listened to this. 🤣 I need that Barbie episode as a palate cleanser! 🫠😅

Freddy's Nightmares was on Saturday afternoons around here! I remember furiously biking 3 miles to my friends house every week so we could watch it together!

Good luck with the computer! Were you all backed up to iCloud? Anyway, right on time as usual, get the episode right before we head up too the camper for some r&r!

ROLL THE DICE I would have been disappointed if you let that slide

Lol, Ore-e-gun, not Or-E-GON. Well done, though! Loved KPDX growing up. Goooood trashy Fox affiliate.

I love these VHS rips. If I had it my way it’s the only way I’d watch 80’s/90’s movies and shows. Also, have you fine gentlemen considered charging us more during spooky season for extra patreon episodes? I’ll speak for everyone and say we’d totally pay it. 😎

I watched the episode before listening and I appreciated that the older one was always weaving a web throughout the episode. She keeps knitting!…and knitting!…and knitting!…and knitting!…(RIP Peewee)

Did you guys ever watch the War of the Worlds series? Now that was some surprisingly explicit special effects for broadcast TV. I'd love to hear a VHS dive episode about it.

Anita

the mom almost sounded like Estelle Costanza, lol.

also, gonna start calling my thicc thighs "Cincinnati Hams".

If we’re creeping into spooky season, it sounds like it’s time for a field trip to see what’s stocked out there already! 👻

Greetings from Oregon! Sounds like Danzig’s Verotika was inspired by this
