As you might have noticed, I've been a little irregular and slow with music creation and general creativity lately. If I'm honest, I've been a little down in the dumps, which you may know yourself doesn't really help with getting anything done whatsoever - and so I decided to shake things up and get out of the rut I found myself in.
I moved my computer over to my parents' house so that I can have a little change of scenery and daily human presence rather than being alone in my place - and I'm also going to start a new short piece of music each day for as long as I can keep it up, providing each day permits and unless I'm cracking down on some long big musical project.
I'm not going to write with the intention of finishing any of these pieces, but if that happens, then that's cool too! I only really intend to doodle 0-1 minute long things - just to get my musical bones vibrating properly again. I'll try to set myself some weird/unique challenge every day, or just make sure I do something wholly new.
For this first one, I fired up a synth in FL Studio that I hadn't touched before (GMS), and played around with it. I made a chord progression in it using only major chords (for those unfamiliar with music theory, that's fairly not-common, and with how close in pitch these chords are together, means the song's key is fairly meandering and ambiguous, but kinda works!!), then sampled a part of the Two Stupid Dogs theme song for the eerie vocal part.
Interesting how all major chords, and even vocals over the top in a major key can all come together to make something that feels just a little out-of-phase with reality and maybe even spooky when you say "nah" to a couple of conventions you might otherwise stick to.
