hello SDC! greetings from a sunny London. this post will be a mix of updates from POPSTAR ORLA and NORMAL GIRL ORLA - we all contain multitudes

POPSTAR ORLA updates:

  • this week I revealed the tracklist for my album EVERYBODY NEEDS A HERO! this includes baby's first feature (on one of my songs) - none other than sir DECLAN MCKENNA will feature on Late To The Party, which is the next single. between us that single will drop on August 27th, so not long to go :') I'll let you know when I have a pre-save link, hoping for early next week. you'll spot lots of other SDC demos on there too, plus a few that I have kept an even BIGGER SECRET, EVEN FROM U LOT

  • if you haven't already and can afford to, please pre-order a physical copy of the album on CD/vinyl/cassette from my store : ) it is the best & most direct way to support me & this album! note that I have set up a US-based store too (click this at the top of the screen) so if you're over in the US or closer to there than the UK, that should help to save you some postage $$$ ! the versions of the vinyl on my store both contain a 13th track (which won't be on the digital album) called 'This Is A Trap', plus a sexy phonebook-style lyric booklet (get it - yellow pages - telephones.. yeah). spot the preview above to see what it's like! I love reading the lyrics when I'm listening to a vinyl so I think this will be the perfect accompaniment to the experience

  •  if you live in BERLIN I'll be playing a free acoustic show with radio EINS on august 28th! come along, details here

  • if you live in the UK/Ireland & want to come see an acoustic instore show around the album release, you can buy a CD or vinyl from one of the participating record stores as entry to the show! some shows selling super fast, links here. (btw I know it's frustrating, but sales via my own online store don't count as entry to these shows - it's just not how these kind of shows work. the indie record stores host the gig in return for us all supporting their business, hence the purchases need to be through their sites. however - given there is no ticket cost, getting into a show for the price of a CD ain't bad and if you end up with 2 copies of the album then you've got an immediate low-effort Christmas present for someone...)

NORMAL GIRL ORLA UPDATES

  • yesterday I had a slow day in the park with the FIZZ gals (dodes + gret) and let me tell you it did me the WORLD of good. I've been working super hard lately on all things album and a picnic outside, sprawled out, toes in grass, little ice cream from the ice cream van.. it was just so simple and so perfect. forgive me for being continuously cryptic but things in my personal life are still quite turbulent so I've really been so grateful for the friendships in my life, gret & dodes especially. when things go sideways friends you can truly open up to are the most valuable thing in the world! so big up to my community, my lil inner circle of legends

  • in foodie news I have been using my new-ish TACO PRESS a lot the last few weeks and man, if I could host you all for a SDC taco night just know that I would. it's so therapeutic and satisfying to me making every element of a dish from scratch like that.. the effort (imo) is completely worth it, especially when cooking for friends. my vegetarianism has fallen by the wayside so taco fillings lately have included halloumi, chipotle chicken, marinated shiitake mushrooms, garlic & chilli prawns.. and always some kind of killer salsa with fruit in it, maybe tomatoes/red onions/mango/lime juice type situation. I LOVE COOKINGGGGGG!

  • in excellent TV news I've been watching season 3 of the BEAR and in total trash TV news I've been watching Love Is Blind UK. the UK version is significantly more wholesome in tone than the US one.. it's still very much trash but it leaves a different sort of feeling after I watch it. is there anyone here who has watched both and could give me an opinion?! niche. I'm open to the fact that maybe I just relate to the UK folk more as I'm based here.. but who knows

  • other things I've been enjoying include iced lattes, wist (card game), airfrying shit, cropping shirts, long ass walks, the phrase 'farm to table', wearing shorts, planning the OGII live show, phone calls, making lists, big glasses of water

love you all, lil SDC. it's all happening and as I always say, it's in HUGE part to you as a collective. you are powerful and y'all change my life every day :')

Excited to hear about all this!! Do you know how long the Berlin set will be? I'm wondering if I should travel to Berlin for this but it's quite a journey - maybe we could also do an SDC meetup beforehand if anyone's interested? 💚

feeling very late to the party* but just dropping in to say that your obsession with taco making is very relatable - I've been making a sweet potato + lime crema recipe from budgetbytes for a while and would recommend it (esp. if you're feeding vegetarians like I often am). *comments section
