HOWDY FOLKS. I usually try to be my *best positive self* on a monday, but alas here I am sharing a very melancholy song idea with you! (a little warning, this song has a curse in verse 1).

it's about trying to find logic in sadness, which I think is impossible. it's about sad feels washing over you & in the midst of it all, you're trying to make sense of it, to no avail.

be cool to see what you think of this.. been noodling song ideas on piano a lot lately, it's been awesome having a real one in the house. :)

have the best Monday

your luv

I also remember days like this, especially in my late teens through early 20's. Playing by the rules, doing so much losing. Nothing seemed to make much sense. In my journey through my Eastern Philosophy days, it did finally strike me what the role of sadness is in life. Same role darkness plays in the world of light. There is no joy without sadness. Without sadness, everything would just be blah. "Ho hum, another 'happy' day". But you cannot appreciate a happy day until you have experienced sad ones. But ... I just kept putting one foot in front of the other and eventually, life got better. And deep down, through all my doubts, I always knew it would. Eventually.

Ahhh love this! Getting some major Regina Spektor vibes on this one and that is A-OK. Really love how simplistic it is in terms of the production. Gives it a bit more of an impact considering the theme. Think it'd be really nice with just some ambient background noise? Maybe some classic cars, or some 'hustle bustle' generic background noise in the pre-chorus. This could very well become my new Monday morning anthem x

P.S really love that clicky thing at the start at about 6 & 8 seconds in.

Lydia Ford

Such lovely chords and melody. Can definitely relate to those lyrics

Gaëtan Perrault

It's not "there" yet, you have a great tune and a nice hook. Please keep writing, this song might not finish itself this week, but it will get there :)

this is the loveliest!! i can already hear some really fun production stuff with this one. i know getting compared to other artists can suck, but i'm seriously feeling regina vibes like. in the best way possible on this one. hope it pans out into something cool :)

I really like the beginning and the lyric noise describing sadness and feeling down. I can relate to that! When you are said you just hear noise in the world nothing definite! Have a lovely week! Hope to hear this is a demo soon! ✌🏻

Andy Glover

Cool demo! Got some awesome musical themes to work with. I dig the piano.

Lauren

I think someone mentioned this in one of your "lifeline" posts... but I love how your songs can go rather deep/dark lyrically while still maintaining an airy hopeful feeling in the instrumental portion. It's such an interesting juxtaposition and the more I see you feature it the more I like it!

Orla Gartland

Aw Lauren that's really interesting! I never notice these things but that's definitely an accidental theme!

Orla Gartland

Phil, I love this. Thank you so much for such an awesome comment. Really got the machines in my head spinning thinking of trying to see the world like that! One day I'll get there. :)

Orla Gartland

thanks man! which bits need improvement? I totally agree but hard to have perspective on it from the inside and would love your thoughts!

Orla Gartland

aw thanks Andy! yeah i'm loving the piano lately because I really don't understand it, so when I play something good I'm like.. oh shit, cool!

Paul Mathews

Oh Orla this beautiful pieece and me feel blue🙀

Ara Jade

Oh man I love that piano when it comes in after the blanket chords its such a beautiful contrast and kindof brings up the whole piece, even though its super sad the piano makes it almost seem hopeful?? very interesting!!!
