HEY beautiful people!

Happy Monday! hope you all had a good one, or as good a day as a Monday can ever be. :)

As a musician (and person) I sometimes struggle with accepting my past and leaving it up online for eeeveryone to see. I started putting videos up 8 years ago, about 2 months after I learned my very first chord, and so so much of my development (and becoming better/more confident/etc) has been laid out for all the world to see! Compared to other jobs & industries I guess it's a little strange - in most fields of work you study and hone your craft/skillset for a long time before going out and putting it into practice - with many of us modern musician typez we're putting music and videos out loooong before we've got any clue who we are as musicians, long before we know what we want to be known for. It's exciting to develop somewhat in the public eye.. but it has it's drawbacks, especially when you want to try new things!

And so in the midst of my struggle with all this I set a lot of my older videos to 'unlisted' (this keeps them on youtube site but they can only be found if you have the link!). I didn't necessarily want new folk to come along and see a video of me 5 years ago above something recent, but yet I knew I didn't want to delete them forever.. they hold so many memories for me and at the end of the day, I owe these early videos so much; the experiences, for the support they brought in.. heck, I know some of you lovely lot have been around since 2009/2010/2011 because of these vids! so cool.

And so, I decided today I would start sharing these old vids one by one (and by request, if anyone has any of the oldies they'd like to see!). It feels like the perfect safe space to revisit them one by one, to shine a little spotlight not the ones I love most, to remember how it felt to record them. So this one is called 'Adventure Time', and it was the 5th original song I uploaded. Here are some things about this video

1) I seem to have a cold, cool

2) I seem to sing with an American accent.. although I for some reason still do this now, it was particularly strong back then

3) I actually can't remember who this song was about :( which makes me a bit sad

4) I was listening to a lot of Mumford & Sons when I wrote this, evident from the classic Mumford strum from 1.20 onwards!

5) omg 2.40 what is with all these little riffs hahaha howling

6) I had totally forgotten the last little verse of the song at the end, I actually really like this:

"we're gonna do nothing at all

and sit in the cloakroom by the hall

and not say a word and drink cups of tea

it's just you and me

we never needed words"

..woo. go OG of the past.

Anyways, enjoy this flashback and let me know what other old vids (if any) you'd like to see me post up on here!

so much love!

Adventure Time :: Orla Gartland

An odd tune i've had in my head for a while. I'm still kind of finding my sound when it comes to originals.. This song was released on iTunes as part of my debut EP, link here bébé :) : http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/laughing-at-my-own-jokes-single/id460654914?uo=4 http://www.facebook.com/OrlaGartland http://www.twitter.com/MusicMaaad (The chords/tabs to this and all my other originals are in the "notes" section of my FB page...!) LYRICS I'm gonna take you on a flight I'm not gonna take you out tonight Tha last thing you need, is a night on the town You've got to, settle down, settle down, settle down We're gonna go to unseen lands and I'm gonna take you with both hands And tell you, it's the happiest I've ever been It's the happiest, happiest, happiest, I've ever seen CHORUSSSSS And the days go on But the days are so long x2 My calendar pages are worn and the pages are torn I'm gonna take you to the sea a bag of chips between you and me And we're gonna watch the waves crash at our feet And you'll say; You're the weirdest person you're the weirdest person I will ever meet. I'm gonna make you close your eyes and i'm gonna take you in disguise Take you to a place where no one knows your name No one knows, no one knows, no one knows and you've got me to blame (Chorus) (Odd solo thingy) (Chorus again) We're gonna do nothing at all and sit in the cloakroom by the hall And not say a word, and drink cups of tea But it's just you and me, you and me, you and me We never needed words x Orla Gartland 2011 ©

I'm not sure if this video was on your channel, but if you could bring back your cover of "Love Like This" with Gavin James. I /love/ that cover, and am a little sad that it's not on yt anymore :(

Laura Maxwell

God I love these old songs. Postcards was my ultimate fave.

Phil Leith

Dary Eldarsson

These are the ones that brought many of us to you. ;) The Postcards, Sixteen, Devil on My Shoulder, fantastic The Ground and my personal favourite Down The Drain. Where is it, btw? :(

I've always wondered about how people sing with an American accent. Can you make a video explaining how and why people do that? Is it natural or do you force yourself to do it?!? So many questions. It makes me sad; I want to hear people's real accents! :) Because they are lovely. You are adorable.

I think this is a great idea with the old unlisted videos!

I remember Lewis Watson saying something similar about why he made a load of his older videos private. Personally I think it’s really cool to still have the older videos on your channel. It shows the new folk how much you’ve grown and improved as a musician! Anyhoo I’m really exited for this! :)
