hi!

cue sniffles. cue whispered singing because everyone is asleep..

here's a little song idea I had late last night. it's loosely based on the relationship between 2 friends of mine, where he had a super set image of the girl he wanted to be with.. and over the course of the relationship proceeded to just do everything he could to mould her into that, rather than let her be herself. :( he never really realised he was doing it, but when it ended it left her having to really find herself again. I care about her so much and it made me sad to hear her side of the tale, especially seeing as from the outside, they were a lovely, happy pair! grrr. i guess that's so often the case.

I'm struggling with a sum-up/chorus lyric.. something to repeat.. something triumphant, like "HEY! I was under your control but now I'm just under mine" or something a little less sassy.. I don't want it to sound bitter, but instead hopeful, like the sound of a new beginning. any/all ideas very welcome! oh, and current lyrics (likely to change because two 'projects', whoops):

i don’t wanna be your cookie cutter lover

i don’t wanna be yours

don’t take me on as a hobby

i’m not a project to work on

no i don’t be wanna yours

(not like this)

i don’t wanna be your little side project

i don’t wanna be yours

you think i’m clay be moulded

but you don’t take any notice

‘cause i don’t wanna be yours

all the shapes that you were crying out for

i was always there to move around

now i barely recognise myself

no i don’t be wanna yours

(not like this

have an awesome friday people

I think "Sniffles" would fit you well as a mobster alias

I have to say, I do not get the cookie cutter lover part... but maybe that's a language problem. But so far so good. Catchy as always and I really like the "not like this" part. Because it kinda shows that things could have worked, if both partners could have just been themselves truly. Thinking on lyrics now...

Great idea. I have a good friend who used to be like that. Had this image in mind and the minute a woman didn't match it she was history. Not quite like what you're saying ... he wouldn't try to change her, he'd just say "nope, that's not it" and bolt. Which I suppose while just as unrealistic is at least a bit more honest. This is pretty much what Annie (made "famous" - ha ha -- by my song "Elizabeth Anne" - I know, I'm SO original, right?) was trying to do with me. She wanted me to be somebody I wasn't. Which I suppose means she wasn't actually in love with ME but that other person she had in her head. A little crushing to realize that now that I think about it. But we were both young and stupid. Though I remember that about the relationship, I look back on it more softly now (which I am able to do, ironically --- because I got out of it). I think it is more common before we're fully mature and understand each other as flawed individuals. I unfortunately have seen this more in women than in men ... the "project" relationship, but it COULD be my an artifact of my point of view as a guy. And the fact that that was never my gig. (Mine used to be "look at me the poor pathetic puppy-eyed loser, won't you take pity on me?" Yeah that doesn't work out well, either) At any rate it tends to bring them nothing but grief in the long run. A good sum up line ... a good sum up line ... hmmm... Guess you'll have to put your thinking cap on. ;-) Actually these ideas usually come to you when you're thinking tangentially about something else anyway. Be patient. It'll come.

I love it. The chord change from verse to chorus definitely seem to capture the breaking away vibe. It'd be cool to extend the cookie cutter metaphor for that final chorus line... but easier said than done

Amateur ideas for a chorus: "Box by box I fit in your shelf but now it's reevolution back to myself" Or something more from a sailor's mind: "I let you steer me away from who I truely am. Now I'm back at the helm safe in my own waters"

Michael Klütgens

Sounds really good already, even if, but maybe because of the trying to be silent. The story is interesting, I had a great discussion with my colleagues at work about just that topic, with very different outlooks on whether or not forming someone else or both people forming each other or not at all is better. For that triumphant but not sassy chorus-line, I would bring up: "Waking up today, I was no longer the dream that you had - and I'll never be again." Or something like that. Have a great weekend everybody! Greetz from Belgium!

the tagline could be something as simple as "I'm just gonna do me now"

Aislin Evans

"I'm just gonna do me now" as a repeated hookline, or part of a more traditional chorus lyric, something like "I'm just gonna do me now / I gotta be set free now / And I know I know it's not what you wanted / But I'm not that / So i'm just gonna do me" etcccccccccc

I have always wanted to write something containing the rhyme stencil - pencil and I feel like now is the time ... ready: Now I will pick up the pencil I am no longer your stencil. Alternatively the homophone rhyme: I will no longer stand still I am no longer you stencil Maybe a bit less silly ^^ Let me know if any of this was helpful XD

Sculpture! Instead of project, maybe?
