HEY GANG!

so I ended up sick as a dog from the 26th right up to last week (cool !) but finallyyyy 2018 has begun for me, and I'm finally looking to the year ahead with excitement! :)

over the Christmas break I played a Sofar sounds show in Dublin.. if you haven't heard of Sofar you should check out if they put on gigs in your city! they organise living room shows in spots all over the world and they love pairing live music with intimate spaces & lovely, attentive audiences. I got a chance to play some new & old songs including the single that you'll all hear very soon! it felt awesome to play it first to a room of absolute legends in my gorgeous hometown.

this week I'm back writing with a couple great artists for their own projects, and laying down the groundwork for my first upcoming single.. I had a great Skype call today with Demii Whiffin who is designing the artwork for the release! soon I'll be thinking about a music video & meeting a few folk who are going to help me set up a new live set. heck, it's all systems go. I like it! in between it all I'll be working on your january demo.. at the mo the ideas are just rough skeletons but there are some I really love, so i'm excited to start putting a little meat on the bones. :)

I know i'm a little late but ANY NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS guys? for me I'm hoping to exercise a little more (classssssic), to practice guitar + piano every week, to learn to drive and on the whole to be a little more honest with myself about how i'm feeling.. especially with any dark or anxious thoughts, which I have a big habit of IGNORING, lol. let me know if you guys have anything you're planning to change up or achieve this year! :)

so much luv for you all

So glad you're feeling better! :D I just got the flu 😭 I haven't been think type of sick in like 4 years, I'm not used to it 😂 So excited to hear the new stuff! I don't really do New Years Resolutions because I never stick to them, but I am still gonna try complain a lot less about my pain and physical health 😂

doesn't really seem like the best start to the year but im glad you're feeling better and suuper excited for your new music! I set myself a couple of new years resolutions; I want to learn to knit, start driving lessons, read 20 books and hopefully get through my first year of uni 😊

I'm glad you're feeling better! I was ill for about a week over Christmas, as well 😣 As for resolutionsssss. I want to work on persisting with the projects I take on, drink more water, eat healthier and read more books. OH, and I'm getting a GUITAR in a few days. I'm so psyched! Hopefully I can persevere cos I know learning guitar isn't going to be super easy lol xx

Big love on the honesty to yourself. That usually takes quite some courage. Especially the darker thoughts. I have been loving the Orla Group Chat on twitter and I am so touched by anyone that joined and is chatting. Its cool to see something taking off and taking shape, even when you do not plan or steer it. New years resolutions....I don't really do those, because why wait an entire year to improve something you could be improving NOW. But if there is one thing I've set myself as goal it would be spending more time with you awesome lot. (which is definitely happening!) 2017 was the year I met some of you patrons on here for the first time IRL, and I can safely say it has changed me to be a better human. Thank you Orla <3 I am so excited to hear what you have in store for this year! PS. awesome Orla face

The Sofar-gigs sound really cool! It's great that you're looking forward to 2018 - so am I. Great to hear that you busy and things are moving forward already this good! I had a few resolutions: Make some youtube videos, some really senseless comedy. My life in politics is so consumed by the logic of always being "on topic", always staying serious and wearing that mask, that I want to create some comedy that is just silly and nonsense. As Stephen Fry said: "These things are way too important to be only taken seriously." So that's great :D And otherwise not a lot, just be happy and enjoy the time I have, keep up the work on life I've done in 2017 - meet more nice people around the world. It's been a pleasure supporting you in 2017, and I'm looking forward to doing so in 2018, as well!

Wow that was such an evil stretch of illness! I'm just beginning to get ill again now my final ever college semester is beginning, great. :') Can't wait to see what kind of artwork you guys come up with. Some of my new years' goals are reaching 10 patreons, getting a grad job (????), and being ethical about clothing - only second hand stuff for me now.

i'm hoping to do smth similar to what u do on the demo club, write/record/produce/release one song a month for this year! gonna be putting them on youtube tho lol. otherwise my resolutions involve the year out of uni that i'm taking next year and finding a job in the music industry!! scary stuff. exciting though. the rest of my resolutions are all boring like. keep the house and also myself clean ones lol

Hi Everett. Post ya stuff here and in the tweeters if you like. I would love to listen once you have it

I was wondering about your quiet spell just yesterday. I figured it was something like this, or that you were gearing up for your push to recording stuff this year. Me? Read more. Practice guitar more. Don't hang out on facebook too long at a time (so I have time to read more, practice guitar more). Hopefully record "album" this year. Mainly just for me, just so I can say I did one. Planned on doing it last year, but after slicing halfway through my left index finger (yup, I'm right handed so figure out how that hinders my guitar playing) -- let's just say I'm still rehabilitating it. I can play, but not even quite as well as I did before, which was never great to begin with :-D . It IS getting better with exercises and such. Word to the wise. When carving wood, wear your damned carving glove! Especially if you'd like to play an instrument as well. A few of us here at work started a "just for fun" band, "After Incident Report" (insider IT joke) ... and we've played a couple of company events (and we were even ASKED to play the second one, so there's that ...) Looking forward to seeing what you come up with this year. Oh, and good on you for getting that Christmas Song done. Stay well, chin up, play on.

YO! hahhaa that's a good one, it's so easy to get trapped in a negative cycle with it all! hope you feel better soon xx

Orla Gartland

ah thank you gorgeous creature. lovely resolutions all round! and LET'S DO THIS DRIVING THING! x

Orla Gartland

ah maaaaan there's always so many nasty things flying about! glad you're better now though. :) ah hoorah to the guitar! amazing. is it a steel string? the tops of your fingers will KILL for the first few weeks but I promise you that gets better, so power through! x

Orla Gartland

HEY. Ah thank you for reminding me about the group chat! I am so glad that it exists, and thank you so much to you & the lads for setting it up & keeping it moving. Please know that it truly means the world! :) good shout on NY resolutions, i'm a sucker for them though I know you're right! SWEET resolution. my 2017 was all the better to have you + the others in it so long may that trend continue xx

Orla Gartland

HEY Michael, you legend! That's cool about the Youtube vids :) really cool, can't wait to see them! it will be a great escape to have a hobby like that. thank you for everything in 2017! xx

Orla Gartland

AHGGHGHG Frances no! that's just so unfair. hope you're feeling better today :( love those resolutions, good luck! x

Orla Gartland

Hey Phil, happy new year! That one about dodging facebook is a great one, maaaan I waste so much time on there it's gross. Sorry to hear about your finger, that sounds horrible! Good luck with easing back into it, can't wait to hear what you come out with. And yay to bands just for fun! That sounds awesome. :) thank you for everything in 2017 xx

I usually go for vague resolutions, for example "consume more art" was mine for 2017. They've worked great for me! I tracked what films I watched, books I read, gigs and exhibitions I went to. BUT this year I'm trying something more concrete... I decided I'm going to finish one of my novels (properly); I have 3 drafty drafts at the moment and plan to get a complete manuscript of one by December!

Reflections when it comes down to it seems like a way better use of the new years resolution don't ya think?
