hey guys. how you doing? a heavy week, needless to say. I hope you've had a chance to breathe - sending buckets of love to you all. :)

I've been trying to keep productive this week whilst staying engaged - a weird balance to strike, of course. I wanted to stay on track with writing whilst keeping up with the news, reading and reposting BLM resources, etc. I tried to limit my phone usage to mornings and evenings and turned it off during the day while I tried to make music.

this was something I recorded today - I returned to an old idea (from last year's 'idea a day in the month of may'). it's called 'back to sleep' and I've always had a nice feeling when I thought about what this song could be - I imagine it now as a sleepy, quite lo-fi track, atmospheric and soothing.

so here's a snippet of where I got to with it today - I used a chopped up kitchen sponge (pic attached)! to deaden the strings on my acoustic.. I didn't want them to sound twangy or ring out too much. I highly recommend the almighty sponge as a solution for this (or for placing in the same place on a bass if you're getting loads of fret buzz).

how are you guys doing? og x

I’ve been taking some time off from music to breathe and let the world sink in, and this, along with the other demos, makes me excited to start writing again. Thank you for your honesty and music - it’s quite inspiring ♥️

I love the guitar parts to this. What chords did you use for the fingerpicking in the verses?
