hey SDC! new demo alert. quick hello to any new folk who have joined us on here this month. I am grateful for u + u are so welcome here:)
may brought a stripped back song out of me - I've loved experimenting w production & sound worlds on the last few demos but something about coming out of the sensory overload that was TOUR made me come home and just want to write something honest and simple. after the main live take I tried adding more layers and the song simply said NO - so I listened.
this song features my new rubber bridge guitar who I'm calling 'bones' (thanks Faith for the name idea). this guitar was a little post-tour treat to myself at the end of dodie's US run and just now am I getting to scoop it up and really see what it can do. it is truly a plinky plonky dream.
this song is about being nostalgic and a little regretful. you can stream the song on the patreon website, IOS app, download the mp3 or in your apple podcast app (if you've linked it all up via the patreon RSS feed then my demos will appear in there for you automatically - well worth doing) as always I'd love to know what you think in a comment below.
lyrics:
I felt fucking nervous
meeting you that day
like when you leave it too long
there’s too much to say
10 whole years of friendship is a victory
suddenly I’m sixteen
when you look at me
emotional whiplash
memories
fold out
in front of me
I’m always putting on a brave face
I still think about
if we had tried a little harder
swam a little further
would we get there?
do you think about
if we had tried a little harder
just hung on a little longer
would we get there?
I can’t bring myself to think about that
blindly optimistic
in an awkward way
like walking through arrivals
thinking someone there is waiting for me
I don’t think that ‘grateful’
really makes the cut
should I even thank you
for not fucking me up?
I still think about
if we had tried a little harder
swam a little further
would we get there?
do you think about
if we had tried a little harder
just hung on a little longer
would we get there?
I can’t bring myself to think about that
I play it out all the time
pull your mom’s car out
drive to my house
I play it out all the time
oh I’m just being sentimental
for a time so monumental
I guess I think about
if we had met a little later
would it all be different would we get there:?
I can’t bring myself to think about that
