Hey all! Greetings from Glasgow. Scottish people are cool, they remind me of Irish people; warm & friendly & funny. (not to toot my own horn but, you know. Good folk).
Tonight I play my 4th ever gig as a guitarist & backing vocal gal, as part of the band behind a wonderful artist called 'dodie' who also happens to be a great friend.. perfection. Last night we played in Newcastle & overcame a couple classic tech-y difficulties, including my acoustic guitar cutting out completely during one of the softest, quietest moments of the set! (I ended up leaning up at the strangest angle to play it into the vocal mic, lolz). I think those lil messy moments always feel bigger to those on stage, and overall it was such a fun gig, with the most attentive, enthusiastic audience evaaar.
Tonight we play Glasgow, a city infamous for its heckling at gigs, with a 100% chance of a 'here we fuckin gooooo' chant breaking out at some point of your set. I can't wait; I just gobbled dinner backstage & my whole bod is buzzing with food and excitement and it's the best thing. I'm really enjoying being in the background of a set, getting to focus in on guitar parts & harmonies without the feeling of all eyes on me (which is an awesome thing too, in a different way. I do love attention soooometimes). It's my first ever tour on in-ear monitors; they're those lil fancy moulded earphone things you see hanging around the necks of big famoos musicians. We're neither big nor famous but the benefit of these in-ears is soooo real; on stage you can have your own individual mix, specific to what instruments you'd like to hear more/less of. The alternative is using wedges, those monitors that sit on the stage at your feet facing up to you - they're also good in their own way but it can be hard to hear yourself through them when you've got drums/amps & generally a lot of noise on stage. When pressed right in the in-ears pretty much block out all other sound, so it can be a pretty strange sensation.. sort of like being in a fishbowl with the crowd noise all muted & far away. But it's all such good experience to get; when I start properly again with a band behind me I can work out the best way to set it all up :)
ANYWAYS, sorry if that was boring and geeky, but yes: life is good, tour is wonderful, the band & crew are the sweetest bunch of mates & the audiences are the best anyone could ask for. So this ginge is happy, and so grateful for this opportunity :) I hope you're all having a great week. I filmed a new video in the tour van today; it's a cover of that new Lorde song 'green light' which I've been loving. So hopefully I'll get that up tomorrow or Wed!
All my love
