wowzers. guys, we're getting close to demo 90 ! here is demo.88 - my one brain cell can't seem to title it today so let's call it BLOODLINE 2, as theme-wise they are definitely linked. I think 'Talk About It' is likely the obvious title..

this is a rare demo borrowed from a time gone by! I almost always write and produce these demos in the month I give them to you - I wrote this song in Copenhagen with my friend Bastian in March of this year & decided this month that it wouldn't make album 2, so I'd like for you to have it. there's something about songs sitting on laptops forever that makes me quite sad, so even when a song isn't perfect - maybe especially when a song isn't perfect - I want it to live somewhere, to be heard in a safe space and the SDC is infinitely the safest space I can think of.

as y'all know from Bloodline, the closing track on my first album I have been long obsessed with the idea of family and passing traits down from one generation to the next. I am obsessed with the things about us we inherit and even more obsessed with figuring out if we can change them! this song is a lighter, more playful take on that subject - like looking at someone else's family dynamic with some outside perspective and thinking - "huh - so you think you can just carry on in the same way as everyone before you has and somehow it will all turn out different for you than it did for your parents? ok. sure. cool."

musically I was feeling inspired by songs with dance-y rhythms and organic sounds - 'Cure For Me' by Aurora was a big one, 'Ferris Wheel' by Sylvan Esso another. I've always wanted songs with a 'drop' of sorts.. but in a very me way and this song was an exploration of how that could feel. Nailing that that kind of song is still very much on my future musical checklist : ) if you're a die hard lover of folk/softer songs the idea of DANCE SONGS WITH DROPS may seem scary.. but I think with the right presentation, some dance/electronic songs can be really soft and still very beautiful !

anyway - let me know whatcha think. thank you *as ever* for your support this month and always. as I gear up to release my new single 'kiss ur face forever' on tuesday I am reminded of how expensive it can be to release music independently so THANK YOU ! your support for the whole year has made this single (and future releases) possible and it really means the world.

a quick note for my gold tier patrons: our last live stream/zoom hang was obviously late in the month and so v recently- so rather than doing our next one at the start of august I'm going to aim for mid-way through the month (likely august 13th - but I'll confirm this closer to the time). over the next few months I'll bring it a touch later each time until we're back on track for the live stream being around the first week of the month :)

lyrics:

god, you really know me

like nobody else really knows me

so bite, bite your tongue

and make it all go backwards

maybe we could try

something kinda new, something kinda crazy

everything’s louder when you shout it

we should sit down and talk about it

how could the silence ever solve it!

no! and so

pick up the popcorn, twenty twenty

i got the apples plenty plenty

it’s not a mystery

history repeats itself

red hot! thicker than water

you run and hide

but it only makes it harder

to bite, bite your tongue

and make it all go backwards

coming from a line

of kind men and strong women

now you’ve got a decision ! so listen

everything’s louder when you shout it

we should sit down and talk about it

how could the silence ever solve it!

no! and so

pick up the popcorn, twenty twenty

i got the apples plenty plenty

it’s not a mystery

history repeats itself!

all my love!
